Honest Parents Raise Honest Children
Katsuki and Hitoshi sat across from each other on one of the couches in the common room of the dorms, playing some game on their phones. I sat on the floor between the other blonde's legs, reading over a book Pops had gotten me for Christmas about healing quirks and first aid. 'Toshi and I had moved into the dorms two days prior, with my room being next to Mina's and Hitoshi's sandwiched between Katsuki's and the outer wall of the building. Our rooms weren't all too grand, just a few simple things we didn't really use often at the house, along with the essentials we needed for class. The paperwork we had to do to officially switch to the hero course was tiresome, the two of us spending long hours awake during the night to make sure we read over every last detail and all of the kinks were ironed out. Hitoshi had taken more time to choose a hero name than I did, having spent less time deciding what he wanted his hero outfit to look like. He finally decided on the name "Control Freak", something Kaminari had apparently suggested during one of their late-night texting sprees. My hero name was simple, and it was something Dad had actually suggested when we first started looking at hero names.
"I want something that makes sense." I had said one night, staring at the papers around my bowl of ramen. Dad took the notepad I had next to me, glancing over the few ideas I had before grabbing my pen and writing something down.
"Try Arashi." He suggested, handing me back the notepad while taking another bite of his ramen. I stared at the name for a minute, contemplating the meaning before writing it on the designated line.
What does Arashimean? Eloise had asked as I finished filling in the rest of the information.'
It means 'Storm', I replied, stacking the papers neatly as I finished writing on them. Eloise hummed quietly.
Eloise had been quiet since I moved in, giving me time to adjust to the new environment before making herself known again. I heard Katsuki groan from above me, his legs shifting around me as he slouched back in defeat. The adoption paperwork had already been sent to the police when Dad and Pops made the official statement to them about the abuse Katsuki received from his parents. The police had gotten back to us the day before we moved, saying that they were looking into it and that Katsuki was allowed to stay at our house for the duration of the investigation to keep him safe. The other blonde had no problems with being away from his parents for so long and had officially been moved into Hitoshi's room. The two had a fee quarrels the first day or two about how the room would be split until they eventually reached an agreement and had finished settling in.
The three of us shot our heads up when we heard the door open, revealing a few of our classmates and their parents. They hadn't noticed us, so Hitoshi went back to his game, while Katsuki stood up to greet some of his friends. I recognized Kaminari, Mina, and Midoriya with their parents, a few people filing in behind them as I turned back to bookmark my page. I heard Katsuki greet a few people, telling them to get their asses back downstairs once they got settled in so that we could all hang out. Kaminari looked towards us from his spot around Katsuki, offering me a small smile and Hitoshi a set of finger guns before he moved around the pomeranian and up to his dorm. The parents filed into the common room around their kids, thankfully taking a seat in the other couches away from Hitoshi and me. Dad and Pops walked in with Nezu on Dad's shoulder, beginning to talk with a few of the parents.
I felt Todoroki before I saw him, his colder right side signaling his arrival before he spoke.
"Hello, Umiko." He greeted, a very small glint in his eyes signaling that he was happy to see me more than his monotoned voice let on.
"Hey, Todo!" I replied, flashing him a smile while I patted the seat next to me. The male took the invitation, sitting down next to me. I subconsciously scooted closer, the warmth of his left side a contrast to the chill his right radiated. "How was the break?" His expression flattered slightly. "Shit! Sorry, I shouldn't have asked."
"It's fine," Todoroki reassured me, placing a hand on my shoulder. "My old man was just being an asshole most of the time." He whispered.
"So the usual," I responded, looking up to see the back of Enji's head from his seat across the room. Todorkoi picked up my book, idly flicking through the pages while asking questions about some of the parts he had read. I explained some of the things the best I could (I had only read through half the book), only barely noticing that Katsuki had come back and sat with Hitoshi when a voice pulled me from my little bubble.
"I hope you choose the new hero course students wisely," Enji spoke, his voice breaking through the peaceful bubble the four of us had surrounded ourselves with. "We need more good heroes. People with drive and ambition, like me."
I rolled my eyes, watching Todo rub the bridge of his nose out of the corner of my eye. I didn't realize I had spoken until the words left my mouth, loud enough for the adults and the rest of my classmates coming in to hear.
"No one wants to be a narcissistic, asshole-ish prick like you, Enji," I grumbled out, shooting a glare across the room. The adults fell silent, while Todoroki, Katsuki, and Hitoshi looked at me like I had threatened a world leader. Enji stood up, turning towards me.
"I don't believe I was speaking to you, girl." He growled out, attempting to put me in my place like he would his own kids. I stood up as well, walking over to the pro hero with my arms crossed.
"And yet I can still freely give my honest opinion. And my honest opinion is that you are an asshole to those around you, and your only a good person when it benefits you. Not when it benefits Todoroki or your other kids. Only when it benefits yourself." I replied, staring the taller male dead in the eye. "So I'll say it again: No one wants to be like you. And don't say that Todoroki wants too because he obviously doesn't"
The adults just sat there, their jaws on the floor as they watched the exchange happen. I stole a glance at Dad and Pops, who looked both an equal mix of surprised and proud. I turned, walking over to the boys, who had stood up during the exchange. We made our way to the stairs, but before we exited the room, I turned to the pro hero that was still glaring at me.
"And one other thing," I said, flashing a smile to the group. "Hitoshi and I have enough drive and ambition than you have in your pinky, Enji. And I think we'll do just fine in the hero course."
With that, I turned and left, the boys following behind.
