chapter 1 - justin beaulieu - october 16th 2007

his alarm clock blares, blinking angrily at him from the dresser -- 5:20 AM. he didn't need to wake up this early. but he still did. routines were important for justin. despite how irritated the lack of sleep made him, he never changed it.
he didn't know anybody else who woke up at this time. well, not anyone personal, at least. but the models he aspired to be like did.
justin sat up, bitterly pushing off his animal print covers to glare at the clock, before slapping it quiet. he sluggishly climbed out of bed, put on the pair of juicy slippers he had begged his mom to buy him, and trudged to his large walk-in closet.
he sorted through multiple clothing--clothes from abercrombie & fitch, hollister and dELiA*s. he had all the latest trends from every store.
he snatched a shirt from its hanger, grabbing a jacket in case he got cold. he picks out a pair of 'miss me' jeans. he stares at the rhinestones and the detailing on the back. he thought it was pretty, but other guys in his school called him feminine for wearing them. if they didn't say it verbally, they definitely showed it with their eyes. he decides to set them down and grabs some 'true religion' jeans instead.
as he walks to the bathroom with his clothes, his cat saunters down the hall, twirling around his feet. her tail went up as she meowed, looking up at him. iona was his baby--the only child he would ever want to have. after she died--which she never would, shes totally immortal--justin would never have another child! shes just too special.
he stepped into the bathroom, iona following close behind. as he got ready, she'd sit on the closed toilet seat, grooming herself as if she was getting ready too. once he was done, theyd both leave and go eat. he'd fill her hot pink bowl up with the fanciest cat food he could find and then he'd eat something healthy.
what he ate depended on the day. monday, a yogurt bowl. tuesday, a simple smoothie. wednesday, a fruit bowl. thursday, avocado toast. friday, his mom would make him chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream. he loved fridays. those were the best days.
...
too bad it was monday.
bland yogurt, blackberries, frozen grapes, some granola. it was..ok, but it was healthy, and approved by his agents. his mom thinks his agents are idiots, that they don't know how a "growing boy should eat." but he listens to them. after finishing his food, he grabbed his black backpack. he shoved in his mints, lipgloss, chapstick, his phone. even though it'd been out for a few months, his mom still hadn't bought him one of those iphones.
he's still stuck with his flip phone. it was fine, it was pink and he put gems on it. his friend, lindsay, showed him a way to put a charm on them. he put a hello kitty charm on, a small one that swung everytime he shut or opened his phone.
justin hears his mom walking up the stairs as hes putting his shoes on. while she starts the car, he rushes to brush his teeth. his morning routine was almost complete--the last step on the weekdays he hated doing.
going to school. he throws his backpack around his shoulder, gave one last kiss to iona, before walking out to the car. his mom got in the front seat. despite being old enough--he just turned sixteen a few weeks ago--justin hadn't learned how to drive. his mom doesn't mind driving him around, so why would he need to? if she wont, he can just use his looks to get a ride from someone else.
after a short ten minute drive, they were there. he gave her one pleading look. she just shook her head, fixing her long, blonde hair in her handheld mirror.
"sorry, jus. you've missed too many days already." she said, her voice flat before she focused on him. "I'll pick you up, 'kay? that way you wont have to walk." she added with more emotion in her voice, patting his shoulder. he turned away with a huff, fixing his own hair unconsciously. "buutttt..." he began before she flicked his shoulder.
"no. ill take you to the mall if you're good. see you at three." she interrupted, kissing his cheek before pulling back, putting her hands on the wheel. "get out!"
at that, justin glared at her, but opened the door. he mumbled a half-hearted "i love you" before slamming the door.
morning routine complete :(
