Snowed In

Mizi practically skipped into the main room of the cabin. She'd been looking forward to their winter trip since last years' trip. "Are we ready to go skiing?" she asked Sua.

Sua put down her book and looked her in the eyes, the corners of her mouth turning up in an amused smirk. "Have you checked outside?"

"Sure I have! There's got to be enough snow, it's not that early into the season." Mizi crossed the room until she was standing next to Sua.

Sua snorted. "There's enough snow, alright." She sipped her tea contentedly. "See for yourself."

Reluctantly, Mizi looked out the window and immediately gasped. She could barely see past a clump of trees, and the bushes were heavy with snow. More snowflakes were spiraling downwards, and big ones, too. Her smile crumpled. "So, no skiing?"

"They're saying it's a blizzard," said Sua.

"Who's they?"

"The news. And the group chat." On time, Sua's phone buzzed on the coffee table. Mizi was still staring outside with a forlorn expression. "Oh, come on. You can't seriously be thinking of going outside. You'd get sick, and then you'd be miserable."

"I'm already miserable," Mizi complained. "We come here to ski, not to be locked inside. I suppose you wouldn't get it, though, you suck at skiing."

Sua looked offended. "Why, you little-whatever, we've already had this conversation. You've been skiing since you were four, and I didn't start until I met you."

"I've gone on black diamonds," Mizi teased.

"And fell every time."

"The only reason you don't fall is because you don't try hard enough stuff."

"So you're saying I'm good enough to advance?"

"No, I said-"

"Anyways, you try hard stuff and almost die. You got a concussion that one time-"

"Because you ran into me!" Mizi defended herself.

"Only because you made us try a harder one. I still have that video of you on the ground, I should send it to the group chat."

"You wouldn't dare!"

"I would!" Sua waved her phone in the air, then started typing. "Remember that one time... when Mizi could barely... walk after we got back from skiing-" she read aloud.

Mizi snatched the phone and booked it across the house, Sua right on her heels. "Oo, let's see what's in your photos!" She started scrolling and then paused, a blank expression on her face. "Babe, what is this?"

She peered at the photo on her phone and almost laughed at the memory. She'd been trying to talk to Mizi about one of the books she'd read recently, but found that Mizi had dozed off not even halfway through. Her head was resting halfway on Sua's shoulder, her blanket was halfway falling off of her shoulder, and Sua was trying to reach over to pull it up all the way but had accidentally pressed on photos. "Might be better if you didn't know," was what she answered with.
