There’s a nervous tingling Hitoshi feels in the top of his fingers and bottom of his feet. His suit, tailored to fit perfectly, felt suffocating due to the anxiety and excitement he felt.
Hitoshi was a go-with-the-flow kind of guy. Nothing usually surprised him. That was until Kaminari Denki had kissed him for the first time 6 years ago.
Shinsou would describe dating Kaminari like reaching the peak of a rollercoaster. Every time he hears Denki cooing at their kittens, laughing loudly, or even imitating him, his heart is shooting down the high climb of the ride with a jolt.
Nothing was ever boring with Denki.
Hitoshi almost felt like he wasn’t meant to be with someone so fierce. His insecurities were slowly emancipated over the years, all thanks to Denki and his gentle coaxing. All doubts would be forgotten whenever Denki’s face turned red at something Hitoshi said. When he would give those soft glances whenever Shinsou had gotten him flowers or made his favourite food after a long day of work. When he would go from dominant to submissive at the touch of Hitoshi’s hand.
Shinsou pulled back the top half of his hair, clipping it into a little bun at the back of his head. He’d been growing out his hair for the past few months, and while his friends made fun of his resemblance to his father, Denki constantly ran his fingers through it and told him that it was sexy.
Honestly, Hitoshi only cared for Denki’s opinion.
He watched as Mina crept into his vision, standing behind him in the mirror with a blinding smile.
“You look great, Hitoshi.” She said gently.
“Ashido is my other half.” Kaminari smiled, nursing the beer in his left hand while his head resting on the right.
Mina went to ruffle Shinsou’s already unruly hair. “Sorry Tinky-Winky, but Kami already has his soulmate.” Shinsou pushed at the arm mussing his hair, rolling his eyes and holding back a smile.
Shinsou smiled back at her reflection, a small, genuine look of gratitude. “Thank you. For everything.” Shinsou hardly recognized his voice, incredibly soft and emotional.
Tonight, Shinsou was going to propose to the love of his life. He had even invited the self-declared Bakusquad to help him and Kaminari get ready, making sure everything was prepared without his boyfriend figuring it out.
Both Bakugo’s and Izuku’s friend groups were going to dinner to celebrate the announcement of the Hero Billboard Chart. Having Deku, Ground Zero, and Uravity as the Top 3 was no surprise, but having all of his friends follow behind was exciting.
Shouto unapologetically accepting fourth place was funny when seeing his father’s reaction. Creati pulled in fifth place, Red Riot in the sixth, Ingenium II in seventh (with a very long speech from Tenya at the event claiming that he does not deserve his place but appreciates it greatly), Froppy in the eighth, Tsukuyomi in ninth, and Chargebolt in tenth.
The day Denki found out he had made the top ten was one of the best days of his life. He was so overwhelmingly proud seeing his boyfriend’s hard work pay off, the only other time he had felt that much pride was when Eri began to work under Recovery Girl at UA. Hitoshi peppered kisses all over the electric hero’s face, soaking in all the giggles and protests from his boyfriend. The timing was perfect since he had been planning the proposal for months. Being an underground hero did not pay as much, but he still saved up for an engraved gold band, an outfit, a suite, and a bottle of french champagne that Denki likes.
“Stop overthinking.” She said, making him turn around to face her. She read people so easily it was scary. “He’s gonna love everything!” She bounced slightly, bright yellow dress swishing with her movements. “He’s talking to Deku about some mission right now, so I came to check up on you. You got the ring?” Shinsou nodded curtly, patting his chest to feel the small box hidden inside the breast pocket of his jacket. Mina began to tie his purple tie, using careful movements to make sure it was perfectly straight. “I don’t need to do the whole shovel talk right?” She smirked mischievously, looping the fabric.
Hitoshi rolled his eyes and thought about Bakugo’s less conventional methods of protecting his best friends. “I think Kats has threatened my balls enough for all of you.” While he sounded annoyed, Ashido recognized the fondness behind his words.
Pulling the fabric down and pushing the knot up, Mina patted his chest. “Showtime, Loverboy.” Hitoshi took a deep breath, clenching and unclenching his jaw. He followed Mina to the door to the living room of his apartment, hearing the laughter and conversation seeping through the cracks. The pink-skinned hero opening the door, revealing Hitoshi’s boyfriend standing across Kyouka, hands in his pockets as he laughed at her exasperated expression, probably due to some joke he said. But all Shinsou was focused on was how beautiful Denki looked. Ashido, the little shit, dressed his boyfriend perfectly. If it weren’t for the plan Hitoshi would’ve gotten down on one knee right then and there. Kaminari, having just noticed Hitoshi standing beside a snickering Ashido, smiled softly at him.
“Well shit, I thought I was the pretty one.” The blonde's eyes, which Shinsou argues is the most wonderful thing he’d ever seen, was accentuated with eyeliner and mascara, with glittering gold on his cheekbones and nose that matched his bright hair. His dress shirt had the first 3 buttons open. He had his signature choker, paired with little golden studs on his ears. Did he wear gold piercings on his chest too?
Ignoring Jirou and Ashido’s giggles at his stupor, he stepped towards Kaminari like he was the only one in the room. He laid a gentle hand on his lover’s cheek. “Nope. Still you.” He smirked despite the pink in his cheeks.
Kaminari placed a hand on Hitoshi’s. “Mindfuck! Pikachu! Let’s go already!” Denki didn’t flinch at Bakugo’s voice, standing on his tiptoes and leaning in. Hitoshi met him halfway, returning the short but sweet kiss.

Having a friend as influential as Shouto came in handy in situations like this.
After his debut as a hero, Todoroki has decided to pull back a little and invest more time in creating a company that was made to watch over young heroes’ wellbeing. While the public did not know about the gritty details of his childhood, his friends were well informed, and support his pursuit. The students of class A and B were familiar with the many traumatic events that come with the career of a hero. And thus, Shouto became quite influential for more than just his family name.
Thanks to him, Shinsou found the perfect place to propose.
“I hate to say it, but I feel like I owe you now.” Hitoshi grumbled, looking at the photos of the place that Shouto help reserve. He took a shot of the expensive sake Shouto had ordered, not wanting to admit that he liked the taste.
“It’s not a big deal.” Todoroki said curtly, looking satisfied with his reaction. Daddy issues make you a people pleaser, Shinsou laughed to himself. “But, I would take you up on the offer. I’m still wondering how to ask Midoriya on a date...” Shinsou nodded, exasperated at the fact that it’s taken so long for the two to finally get things going. Hitoshi got whiplash thinking of how much like a married couple they acted without even admitting their feelings for each other.

Dinner was going smoothly. The Top Ten heroes and their friends were drinking and conversing. Some louder than others. Kaminari, for example, was joking around with Kirishima and teasing Bakugou. As the brainwashing hero was not as extroverted, he had detached himself from the conversation, opting to watch his boyfriend.
While Denki’s now long hair was tamed into a french braid down to his lower back, his blonde bangs rested on his forehead. With a laugh, he shook his head, watching as Bakugou made a comment that caused his red-headed boyfriend to blush. Before Denki can do it himself, Shinsou reaches forward, gently brushing the blonde and black hair away from his eyes. The electric blonde’s little eyebrows curved to give him an endearing look. His cheeks tinted pink from the wine he was drinking, and suddenly Hitoshi felt intoxicated.
“Look at you two being mushy.” Hanta’s voice called out. Shinsou gave him an exasperated look.
“Leave him alone. He’s a big softie.” Kaminari giggled, and Shinsou’s heart grew three times bigger. He was about to defend himself when he felt his phone buzz. Checking the caller ID, the purple-haired hero gave Denki a peck on the cheek before excusing himself from the table. Once outside the private room, Shinsou answered with a nervous smile.
“Hi, dad.”
Aizawa’s voice sounded even more grumpy on the phone. “Took you long enough to answer. Hizashi is killing me over here.” Hitoshi’s smile grew, looking down at his shoes.
“I’m about to do it.” He said, noting the squeals in the background of the call, no doubt that it was his sister and papa. “I’m... I’m nervous, but god I’m so excited.”
“Don’t be. That boy has been crazy for you since day one.” He heard his papa on the phone. “Hitoshi! Shouta is crying!”
“I AM NOT.”
“YES YOU ARE!”
As they went back and forth, Shinsou couldn’t help but laugh. Then a gentle voice took over the call.
“They’re bickering again.” Eri said in joking exasperation. “But listen, call us after it happens ok?” Hitoshi smiled involuntarily.
“Of course.” After a quick goodbye, The underground hero took a few deep breaths before re-entering the room. Bakugo, Todoroki, and Mina all turned to him before nodding towards the balcony doors.
Every step felt like he was jolted, like when he would fluster Denki and accidentally set off his quirk. He rolled his shoulders, opening the fancy white doors as quietly as he could. Denki was standing there, back facing him, leaning on the balcony. Sero, with his elbows on the edge as he faced the doors, lit up when he saw Hitoshi. Sero walked past him and gave a firm pat on his back.
“I’ll leave you two alone.” He said, winking at Hitoshi with his signature grin. Denki, completely unaware that Hitoshi had shown up, turned and motioned him to come over. Taking the sound of the doors closing behind Hanta as his cue, Hitoshi walked up behind his boyfriend and wrapped his arms around his waist, resting his head on top of Kaminari’s.
His blonde boyfriend his hands over Hitoshi’s, interlocking their fingers. Kaminari was looking at the beautiful view of the city, but Shinsou’s heart was beating faster with every second.
Squeezing Kaminari’s hands, he gently stepped back, spinning his boyfriend slowly until they were facing each other. The city lights glowed on one side of Kaminari’s wide eyes.
“Close your eyes.” Hitoshi whispered, face only a few centimetres from Denki’s. The blonde smiled softly, eyes fluttering shut. No hesitation, completely trusting Hitoshi. Shinsou clenched his teeth, taking a silent breath before getting down on one knee, keeping his eyes on Denki's curious face. He pulled the box that was hidden for long.
“Sweetheart.” Hitoshi barely whispered, pulling the lid of the box open. The gold band glittered in the moonlight but was dim compared to the bright irises that shone when Denki’s eyes opened. The slight confusion on his face made Hitoshi’s heart clench. Kaminari’s eyes searched for a second before catching the ring in Hitoshi’s hand. Those golden eyes widened, hands coming up to cover his mouth. His eyebrows were practically on his hairline. A muffled “Oh my god” made Shinsou released a nervous huff of laughter.
“Kaminari Denki.” He said, completely forgetting the entire speech he had mentally recited for the past few months. “I was so nervous about this.” He failed to hold back a smile. “But now that I’m doing it, I have no doubts.” Shinsou swallowed, feeling overwhelmed. “I know I’m not the best at dating and romance, but I love you so much. I know this was meant to be. You made me into a better person. I never imagined I would be proposing, but that’s what you do to people. You bring the best in them. You’re almost too bright for me.” Hitoshi laughed. He finally looked up into Denki’s eyes, and the anxiety came rushing back. There were tears, silently streaming down his lover’s face. staining his cheeks and dripping onto his dress shirt.
“Hitoshi...” The way Kaminari said Shinsou's name sent his heart reeling.
“Would you do me the honour of marrying me?” He said, anticipating his boyfriend’s response.
Denki dropped a hand from his face, placing it in Hitoshi’s outstretched hand. He sniffed, huffing a laugh. “I’m not even gonna dignify that with a response.” He grinned, keeping eye contact and he pulled Shinsou up onto his feet with surprising strength. “It’s always been you.”
Hitoshi pulled the ring out of the box. He set the small package on the marble railing, taking Kaminari’s hand in his. The hero held the ring at the end of his boyfriend’s third finger, meeting his boyfriend’s tear-filled eyes.
“Yes.” Denki said, a new stream of tears falling as Hitoshi gently slipped the ring onto his finger. He stepped forward, blood rushing through his veins, and wrapped his arms tightly around his //finacé’s//waist. He picked him up, smiling at the small yelp Kaminari let out.
“I love you.” He said, letting Denki wrap his arms and legs around him. Hitoshi reaches forward and placed his large hands on the other hero’s cheeks, swiping the final tears with his thumb. He pulled him in, finally kissing him as he wanted to all night.
“I love you, Hitoshi.” Kaminari mumbled against his lips when he pulled away. That’s when they heard a bump against the door. They both turned, listening to the hushed shouts coming from the other side.
“Did he say yes? Did he say yes?!” Ashido’s excited rambling can be heard.
“Of fucking course, Pinky! Now shut up and let me listen!” Bakugou scolded.
Denki slipped off Hitoshi like a koala, hands fanning his face. “Guys! Just come outside!” He said, sobbing happily.
The door immediately crashed open, a small hoard of heroes jumping forward. Shinsou stood with his mouth ajar has him and his fiancé were bombarded by their friends. Jirou, with a crying Momo in tow, ran immediately to Denki and starting hugging him. Izuku jumped to hug Hitoshi while Bakugou had the smallest of smiles on his face.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me! I’m so happy for you guys!” He cried, tears streaming down his freckled face. Shouto was patting his back, concerned, as if the number one hero wasn’t a known crybaby. Bakugou piped up behind him.
“He didn’t tell you because you can’t keep your mouth shut.” Hitoshi, too out of it to push Midoriya away, smiled fondly at his friends. He felt someone jump onto his back, sending him into Izuku arms as the green-haired man laughed nervously.
“Ashido, next time warn me.” Hitoshi grumbled, ruffling the pink head of hair on his shoulders.
“Shut up and let us love you.” She laughed, tears in her eyes. She slid off his back, turning him around to Eijirou. The behemoth of a man opened his arms and smiled at Hitoshi.
“C’mon. This is happening.” He smiled his shark-toothed grin.
“Oh god.” Hitoshi groaned as his red-haired friend crushed him into a hug, causing him to laugh. “Just because you’re an inch or two taller...” Eijirou let out that big, rumbling laugh of his. It matched his demeanour and scared villains once and awhile with how boisterous it is. Shinsou felt several pairs of arms wrap around him, turning his head to see that the entire group was all huddled around him.
Yeah, Hitoshi thought to himself. This is meant to be.
