I'm Right At The End Of My Rope

Katsuki scowled as he stared out the window, glaring harshly at all the passing houses. He was getting annoyed with how far this place was. Usually he was stuck in this damn car for about ten, fifteen minutes tops. This time his case worker, a tall, slim man with blond hair that insisted Katsuki call him Mr.Hakamata, had been driving for almost an hour now. He would never admit it out loud, but the long drive had him nervous as he thought of the type of home he was being sent to this time.

Hakamata had mentioned that this family usually took in “troubled” kids. It didn’t take a genius to know by that he meant fucked up. Honestly with his luck, the family would probably be exactly like the other ones he’s stayed with before. Strict, cold, harsh, and ready to send him away by next month.

Wonder what’ll get me kicked out this time, he thought to himself, leaning back into the car seat. If they weren’t half as much of an asshole as the last guy he was stuck with then maybe Katsuki could stick it out til the end of the school year. He clenched his fist as his mind thought back to that bastard. He was brought out of his thoughts as Hakamta spoke up, breaking the silence in the car for the first time since they left the CPS building.

“Bakugou, I want you to know that you have no reason to be nervous. I have known this family for years and can tell you that they’re good people. If anyone can help straighten you out, it’s Mr.Aizawa and his husband.”

Katsuki rolled his eyes, but still felt himself tense up. The words ‘straighten you out’ not sitting well with him. If Hakamata was claiming that then there was a high possibility that he had shown the family his file. Which meant that he was screwed before he even got to the damn house. He turned his head back towards the window, glaring much harsher than before.

It was another twenty minutes before the car began to slow down. Katsuki kept his face as emotionless as he could, despite the nerves beginning to build up. His eyes widened however as Hakamata pulled into the driveway of a two story house.

Already it was the most impressive house Katsuki had been sent to yet. Though it did nothing to ease his worries. If anything the sight of the house intensified his previous thoughts of what type of family stood behind the door.

“Bakugou.” He blinked and looked over at an unbuckled Hakamata. “Come along now.”

“I don’t need your permission,” Katsuki mumbled out. It went unheard though as Hakamata closed the door as soon as he stepped out of the car. Katsuki breathed out a curse as he grabbed his bag and followed suit. With a small grin, he slammed the car door as Hakamata glanced over at him just to spite the man. If Hakamata cared he didn’t say anything, instead silently leading Katsuki up to the front door. Before he knocked he looked down at Katsuki, giving him an indecipherable look.

“Bakugou, you’re a smart boy.” He started. Katsuki glared at the man. He was well aware of that and certainly didn’t need him telling him so. “But you have made some poor decisions lately so I want you to understand that there were many strings pulled to get you this chance. Yamada and Aizawa are old friends of mine and they were generous and willing enough to let you live here. However, make no mistake, you won’t get away with the behaviors you’ve displayed in other homes.”

Katsuki crossed his arms, glaring harder at the older man. As annoying as moving places was, he stood by his previous actions. Those homes were shit and he was glad to be thrown out of them. Not caring at all of the labels that followed him around because of it. He knew who he was, no matter how many times the words ‘violent’ and ‘uncooperative’ came up when people talked about him. Katsuki held his tongue as Hakamata finished his shitty attempt at a “farewell” speech. It was nothing new to him. If anything they seemed to be getting more annoying the more he had to hear them. He would have to mentally prepare himself, knowing it wouldn’t be long before he would have to hear this crap again.

Taking Katsuki’s silence as agreement, Hakamata nodded, satisfied. He turned towards the front door and knocked. It didn’t take long for the door to swing open. Katsuki was taken aback seeing a blonde man with a bright smile. For a second he was convinced they were at the wrong house. The thought was soon proven wrong as the blonde man directed his bright smile to Hakamata.

“Tsunagu, it’s good to see you!” The blonde man says. Hakamata nods with a smile.

“It’s good to see you as well Hizashi. It’s been too long,” He said. Katsuki rolled his eyes hearing his tone, much lighter than it had been before. Though he quickly straightens up as the blonde man, Hizashi, looks over at him.

“I’m assuming this is him?” He asks. Hakamata nods before motioning at Katsuki.

“Katsuki Bakugou,” He introduced. He glanced down at Katsuki and gestured towards Hizashi. “Say hello to Mr.Yamada.”

Hizashi waved his hands with a polite smile. “Just Yamada is fine. Or Hizashi if that’s what you prefer.”

He stuck a hand out towards him. “It’s nice to meet you, Katsuki.”

Katsuki glanced down at the man’s hand. He knew what boh men were expecting. Yet he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Instead he narrowed his eyes as he glanced back up at the suspiciously nice man. Yamada let his hand drop, upon realizing that Katsuki wasn’t going to shake it. Though instead of feeling offended or disrespected he sent him a small, almost sad, smile, which was somehow worse.

“Well why don’t you come inside,” Yamada said, moving aside. Katsuki didn’t spare Hakamata a glance as he walked in. He stood by the front door looking around the entrance, ignoring Yamada and Hakamata as they exchanged goodbyes. He glanced back over once he heard the door close.

Katsuki slightly tensed as he looked at Hizashi. He had expected to see a glare. It wouldn’t be the first time someone had dropped the smile as soon as Hakamata was gone. Yet he found himself fully surprised to see Hizashi giving a smile, just as bright as before.

“You can set your bag here if you’d like for now,” Yamada said. Katsuki instantly gripped the strap of his bag.

“No,” He said, voice rougher than he intended. Yamada gave him a surprised look, probably because it was the first thing Katsuki had said to the man. But it was quickly replaced with a soft smile as he nodded.

“Shota and the kids are out right now running some errands, but would you like some water?” He offered. “I haven’t started dinner yet, but if you’re hungry I can go ahead and make you something.”

Katsuki’s grip on his bag tightened, suddenly feeling overwhelmed. He quickly cut Yamada off. “Where do I sleep?”

“Sorry?” Yamada said, clearly thrown off. Katsuki rolled his eyes at the man.

“I know you’ve seen the file. This isn’t my first time doing this. Where do I sleep?” He repeated, annoyed. Yamada raised an eyebrow at him before walking ahead.

“I’ll show you,” He said, gesturing to Katsuki to follow him.

As he followed him upstairs he couldn’t help but look around the house. The first thing that Katsuki realized about this place was that they loved cats. He had easily noticed two relaxing on the couch and could hear another walking around. The second thing he noticed was that Yamada and his husband really freaking adored their kids. There were multiple picture frames of varying sizes that decorated the house and while Katsuki could make out children in almost all the photos, he did his best not to focus on any of them. Finally Yamada stopped in front of a white door.

“This is your bedroom!” He announced, opening the door for him. Katsuki glanced into the room, trying, and failing, to mask his shock at the room. It wasn’t his first time with his own room, most families not trusting him with their kids. However, it was his first time being in a room that was this nice and big. Katsuki was positive that Yamada was going to slam the door in his face, mocking him for thinking he would ever get a room this good. It never came. Instead Yamada gave him a soft smile, picking up on his hesitancy.

“Sorry it’s not very decorated, but we can always pick up anything you want tomorrow,” Yamada informed him. He gestured slightly for Katsuki to walk in. “Go ahead, you can settle in and unpack your things.”

For once Katsuki did nothing but nod. He glanced one more time at the man before fully walking into the room. He looked around the room one more time before glancing back at Yamada.

“I’ll call you when dinner is ready,” He said, shooting him another smile before closing the door behind him. As soon as he heard it click he took a seat on the edge of the bed. He quickly disregarded his bag and dropped it by his feet. Katsuki let out a deep breath as he stared at the white wall in front of him, for once feeling unsure he would even last the week here.
