Mirio X Reader
You were mine, yeah,I always knew from the moment I first laid my eyes on you
Your blue eyes sparkled- a perfect match for your dress
She had been quiet as a child, never wanting to cause much trouble, and so she managed to go unnoticed for the majority of her first few days at school. When a ball came flying at her face in gym class, and she ended up giving it a rather strong uppercut and sending it flying into the ceiling, attention was unfortunately drawn to her. Standing there in absolute shock, she raised her head to see where the ball had struck; right by one of the rafters. To her surprise, two balls came down,as she had apparently dislodged one that had been stuck in the rafters a few weeks prior. Her face flooded with color as she stood there, looking around to see the bewildered faces of her classmates and teachers; only one person seemed unaffected by what had happened.
“Hey,get the ball! It’s your turn to pass it back, you know?” Mirio told the girl, grinning brightly.
(First Name)’s face darkened even more, the girl silently nodding and scuttling off to get the ball quickly. Though she had only used her Quirk to protect herself, she knew she’d be scolded for using it without permission,so she flinched when she heard her teacher call her name. Picking up the ball and handing it to Mirio as she passed, she made her way towards the teacher anxiously, gnawing on her bottom lip to relieve some of her anxiety.
“Are you alright? You used your Quirk there, right?” The woman asked, sighing as she looked down at the child; she knew not to expect a vocal answer.
(First Name) nodded, keeping her eyes on the ground since she didn’t want to see the disappointed expression on the woman’s face.
“In case it could go haywire, sit out for the rest of the day. I’ll be calling your parents about this as well,” The woman ordered, realizing her tone may be a bit too harsh and patting the girl’s head to give her some sort of comfort. “You’re not in trouble, okay? People your age always have trouble with their Quirks,so nobody will be mad at you for it,alright?”
(First Name) nodded once again, making her way over to the corner of the gym and sitting down on the bench quietly to watch the other students play.
Noticing how embarrassed and upset (First Name) looked,Mirio decided to do what he did best; cheer someone up. Walking over to the teacher,he tugged on her shirt, looking up at her calmly. “I wanna sit out,my stomach hurts.”
The teacher stopped looking over the list of phone numbers, looking at the student instead and sighing. “Fine, join (Last Name) on the bench. Don’t expect to sit out tomorrow, though, okay?”
“Yes ma’am!” Mirio chirped, running over to the bench and sitting down with a grin. Since (First Name) didn’t speak when he sat near her,he scooted a bit closer and started swinging his legs as he tried to come up with what to say. “Your name is (Last Name),right? I’m Mirio,Mirio Togata! Your Quirk looked really cool, you know?”
(First Name) stared at her lap silently, her cheeks heating up even more as she listened to the boy’s words; she didn’t like how he talked about her Quirk like it was something to be jealous of,though she didn’t speak.
“Hey,how come you’re not talking? Can you not speak or something?” Mirio asked, leaning forward slightly so he could see her face better. Noticing how embarrassed and upset she looked, though,he decided not to ask about it any more. “It’s fine if you don’t speak,actually.. Want a piece of candy?” He asked, shoving his hand in his pocket and pulling out a sucker he had been saving for lunch. “I was gonna keep it for lunch, but you look like you could use some sugar,so here!” He grabbed her hand and placed the sweet in her palm, giving her a giant grin.
(First Name) sat there in silence, looking between Mirio and the sucker in confusion. Deciding that she should just take the sucker since she liked sweets, she pulled the wrapper off and popped it in her mouth, her eyes lighting up slightly when she tasted the strawberry flavor.
Mirio grinned when he saw her expression change. “You’re smiling now! I’m glad! If you like strawberry-flavored things,I’ll give you another one tomorrow, okay?”
(First Name)’s cheeks warmed up slightly, the girl nodding silently as she tried to force some sort of words out of her mouth. Unable to think of anything to say,she just looked down at her lap quietly.
“I’ll bring you lots of sweets,so can we be friends?” Mirio asked, hoping the girl would accept his offer.
(First Name) shook her head wildly, not wanting him to think he needed to give her sweets to make her his friend. Scrambling over to the bags thrown by the gym doors, she opened her own and grabbed a notebook, scribbling down the words she wished she could say. Holding the notebook up,she looked at Mirio, her (Eye Color) eyes peering over the edge of the notebook.
“We can be friends without sweets?” Mirio asked as he read the words, laughing when (First Name) nodded. “Then I’ll just bring you sweets when I have extras, and we can be friends forever!”
(First Name) nodded, gripping the notebook tighter with a slight smile on her face; she had just made her very first friend!
Mirio found out quickly that (First Name) could speak, but that it hurt her to do so since she had some sort of growth in her throat that she was set to get surgery for soon. Eager to cheer his friend up,Mirio decided to do something absolutely ridiculous.
“Mama,I need a dress,” The blond demanded when he returned home that afternoon.
“Huh? Why do you need a dress?” Aiko asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked over at him.
“My friend’s going through something super scary, and I wanna cheer her up! Girls like to see pretty dresses, right? If I wear one,(Last Name)’ll definitely cheer up!” Mirio told her, patting the table to make sure she knew just how serious this was. When his mother began laughing,he puffed out his cheeks. “I need one! A bright blue dress! One that’s super sparkly and glittery and will definitely make her happy!”
“Why not give her a dress instead? Why do you have to wear it?” Aiko giggled, ruffling her son’s hair. “Don’t you think she’d be happier to get a dress?”
“I dunno what kind of clothes she likes, duh. If I chose something bad, she’d be sad,so I’ll just wear a dress instead!” Mirio huffed, puffing out his cheeks. “It’s not funny, either! I’m serious!”
“Alright, alright,we can go get a dress.. But when do you think you’ll be able to wear it? Your school has a uniform, remember?” Aiko wanted to squeal and call her son cute, though she knew he wouldn’t like it right now.
“I got her address from the teacher! Since she noticed that me and her get along, she wanted me to know where (Last Name) lives so I can give her the printouts when she goes in for surgery!” Mirio explained, grinning. “If I show up to her house in a pretty dress,it’ll make her happy for sure!”
Aiko couldn’t hold it back anymore, scooping her son up and hugging him tightly. “You’re just too cute,Mirio! We’ll definitely get you the absolute prettiest dress so we can make your friend super happy, okay?! Leave it to your mama, okay?!”
Mirio wriggled and whined as his mother kissed all over his face, trying to push her away. “Stop it,it tickles! Mama,it tickles!” He whined, starting to laugh despite his complaints.
Two days later, the day before (First Name)’s surgery, the girl heard a knock on her front door as she played a game on her little Nintendo. When her mother called her name, she got up and came down the stairs, walking over to the door curiously. Upon seeing Mirio wearing a bright blue dress that was super glittery, her eyes widened, the girl covering her mouth and letting out a quiet and breathless giggle that was almost silent.
Mirio heard the wheezy laugh, his eyes lighting up and a giant grin appearing on his face. “You like it,right? You laughed, didn’t you?!”
(First Name) nodded, keeping her mouth covered as she continued to silently laugh at her friend’s antics. When she finally calmed down a little, she grabbed his hand, turning it over so she could trace what she wanted to say on his palm.
Mirio wiggled his fingers as he felt her trace the characters on his palm, grinning happily. “You said thanks, right?” He asked, smiling even wider when she confirmed it. “If it’ll make you smile,I’ll do anything!” He promised her.
“Your.. Your dress matches..” (First Name) struggled to get the words out,her voice strained and breathy. Pushing through the pain that bloomed from her throat, she forced the rest of her sentence out. “Your eyes..”
Mirio stared at her for a moment, before laughing and nodding. “Yeah, but it also matches the color of your notebook, right? I thought you’d like this color!”
(First Name) smiled and nodded, her cheeks feeling a little warmer than usual; she was happy Mirio had thought of her.
“It’s been a while since (First Name)’s talked and laughed like that,so thank you,” The girl’s mother told them, smiling. Looking down at Mirio, she smiled even brighter. “Thanks for worrying about her so much,Mirio! Your mother said you’ll be the one bringing her work for a while, right?”
“Yep! I asked the teacher if I could, and she said yeah,so I’ll definitely go to the hospital every day and give her the work!” Mirio promised her excitedly. “I’ll make her smile a whole bunch!”
“I’ll be relying on you for that, then,” (Mother’s Name) told him, glad her daughter had a friend so caring. “Would you two like to come in and hang out for a while? I was just about to get started on dinner.”
“No,we have to get home and start dinner as well. Mirio just really wanted to stop by to try and make (First Name) happy real quick,” Aiko told her, smiling. “Next time,we’ll definitely stay a while longer,if that’s alright with you of course.”
“Absolutely. As long as they have fun together, that’s all that matters to me,” (Mother’s Name) replied, before stepping back and ruffling (First Name)’s hair. “Make sure you say bye, okay?”
(First Name) rubbed her throat for a second, knowing she wouldn’t be able to force any more words out for today. Instead, she mouthed a simple ‘bye-bye’ and waved.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,I promise!” Mirio told her, grinning. “We’ll talk a lot once you’re all healed up!”
(First Name) nodded and smiled, watching as the boy left with his mother; she had never felt that happy before.
The next day was much more painful than (First Name) had thought it would be. After the surgery, the pain medication they put her on made her almost catatonic, the girl laying in the bed silently and just staring at the ceiling. The machines around her continued to beep, and she could hear her mother talking to the doctor and asking why she needed to stay in the hospital for a few days, but she couldn’t feel much else.
Mirio arrived at the hospital early in the afternoon, and despite his brave words, the boy found himself frozen in the doorway. Though (Mother’s Name) had warned him that (First Name) wouldn’t be able to speak, and that she would be hospitalized for a few days since she was so young for such a surgery,he hadn’t thought it was as scary as she had made it out to be. But seeing his friend hooked up to so many machines was intimidating, and it made him want to cry seeing how empty she looked. Doing his best to seem brave,he forced himself to step into the room, walking over and climbing into an empty chair that had been placed by her bed. “Hey,(Last Name),guess what? I brought the printouts!” He forced the words out, trying to sound as happy as possible.
(First Name) turned her head to look at him, ignoring the pain and smiling at Mirio slightly. She couldn’t really move much because of everything she was hooked to,but she didn’t care.
“You didn’t miss much today,so you don’t need to worry about much!” Mirio promised, chewing on his lip slightly as he tried to think of what else to say. “Your mama said you’ll be out in just a few days, and that you shouldn’t talk much for a few weeks,so I’ll be sure to be your voice until then, okay?”
(First Name) nodded, leaning a little further into the pillow and just letting out a strained sigh.
Mirio set the printouts on the bedside table, looking down at his feet and trying to think of what to do or say. Since he had never seen someone in the hospital like this,he wasn’t sure how to feel, but he knew he didn’t like seeing her like this at all. “I’ll give you a bunch of candies when you’re better,so heal up quickly, okay?”
(First Name) nodded slightly, wincing at the movement.
“I’ll come again tomorrow, then!” Mirio told her, jumping up and running out of the room quickly. Retreating to his mother’s side,he hugged her leg, looking up at (Mother’s Name) with wide eyes.
“What’s wrong,Mirio?” Aiko asked, looking down at him with a slight frown. Seeing how anxious her son looked, her expression changed into a reassuring smile.”Were you scared? You’ve never seen anyone like that before, right?”
“I didn’t like it..” Mirio confessed, gripping onto her tighter. “I didn’t like the beeping.. It was scary..”
“You don’t have to come back tomorrow if it’s too scary, you know?” (Mother’s Name) asked him, smiling. “I know you wanna help (First Name),but you don’t have to force yourself to do something if it’s scary.”
“I wanna do it!” Mirio snapped, burying his face in his mother’s side. “But it’s really scary..”
Aiko pondered what to say for a moment, wanting to reassure her son but also wanting to teach him. “It’s scary for people in the hospital too,you know? Hospitals can be super scary, but if you have a friend by your side,it’s not as scary,so I’m sure you coming to visit made her feel better!”
“Really..?” Mirio looked up at his mother, his grip loosening slightly as he wondered whether or not (First Name) had been scared as well. Realizing that she probably was,his frown deepened, his little mind trying to come up with a way to make it less scary for her. “I’ll come back tomorrow and make it even less scary for her, then!”
“That’d be super nice of you,Mirio!” (Mother’s Name) told him, smiling brightly. “I’m sure she’ll be really happy!”
The next day, instead of eating lunch with his classmates,Mirio was busy decorating a card. With a pack of crayons,a glue stick, scissors, and a bunch of construction paper,he set to work, cutting out a bunch of flowers and hearts and gluing them down.
“What’re you doing,Mirio?” One of his classmates,Maya, asked him when she noticed him working on something.
“I’m making a card for (Last Name) since she’s in the hospital!” Mirio told her,not looking up as he continued to cut and paste the colorful shapes. “Wanna sign it?”
“(Last Name)’s in the hospital?” Maya frowned, scurrying over to the drawer of construction paper and grabbing a white page before returning to Mirio’s desk. Pulling her chair over, she sat down and began to make her own card. “Are you gonna visit her and give it to her?”
“Mhm! Mama said that the hospital is scary,so I spent all night and all morning thinking about how to make it better, and I thought a card might help!”Mirio replied, continuing to work on his own card. “If she gets a bunch of cards,I bet she’ll be really, really happy!”
Maya continued to color the card as best as she could, drawing a butterfly she had seen a few days prior. Though she had never spoken to (First Name),or even noticed her that much, she wanted to do what she could to make her smile. “What does she like?”
Mirio paused for a second and thought, puffing out his cheeks slightly. “Ah,she likes candy! I gave her a strawberry sucker, and her eyes went huge!”
“Really? I’ve never seen her make many faces..” Maya giggled at the idea, drawing the best sucker she could.
“What are you guys doing?” A boy named Hiro asked when he noticed them talking and coloring instead of eating.
“We’re making cards to make (Last Name) happy!” Maya told him, looking up and grinning. “She’s in the hospital, and Mirio’s gonna take them to her!”
“Why’s she in the hospital?” Hiro tilted his head to the side, confusion glittering in his brown eyes. “Is she sick?”
“She’s got a throat problem and had surgery so she can speak soon,” Mirio told him, finally finishing on his card. “Mama said that people in the hospital are scared,so I thought a card would make her feel better!”
“If I..” Hiro hesitated for a moment, looking off to the side with a slight blush on his cheeks; he had noticed the girl, and he thought she was cool, but it was hard to say something like that aloud. “If I make a card for her as well, would you give it to her?”
“Yep! I’m gonna visit her again after school!” Mirio chirped happily, grinning. “She likes strawberry suckers,so draw one on it,and it’ll definitely make her smile!”
Hiro nodded slightly, walking over to the drawer full of construction paper and grabbing a bright pink sheet. Walking back to his desk,he sat down and began coloring, his cheeks still a slight shade of pink.
Though she only got three cards that afternoon,(First Name) gave Mirio the brightest smile she could muster as she listened to him ramble about the day’s events; the hospital really wasn’t that scary if you had someone waiting for you.
“I’ll come back tomorrow,so wait for me,okay?” Mirio asked her after a while, his blue eyes sparkling. “I’ll give you something even cooler!”
(First Name) nodded slightly, smiling as she watched him leave.
The next day,Mirio sat on the playground as he tried to think of what to take to the hospital for (First Name). Unable to think of anything,he let out a huff and looked around, puffing his cheeks out slightly.
“Mirio, look at this!” Hiro called out as he ran over to the boy, holding out a geode the teacher had let him break open in the science clubroom. “Mr.Tomo is letting everyone break one open and keep it! They’re super pretty!”
“Do you think he’ll let me break one for (Last Name)?” Mirio asked, staring at the glittering crystals inside the dull-looking rock. “She’d definitely think they’re pretty..”
“Mhm! He said everyone can have one since he bought a bunch! If you get a super pretty one, you’ll be able to give half of it to her!” Hiro grabbed his arm, pulling him towards the science room eagerly. “You’ve absolutely gotta do one!”
That afternoon,Mirio held up the sparkling rock with a giant grin. “(Last Name),look at it! It’s a geode! Mr.Tomo said it has amethyst in it,and it’s super pretty, right?!”
(First Name) looked over, her eyes lighting up slightly. Sitting up,she reached out for the rock, looking at it closer when Mirio handed it over to her.
“Do you like it?” Mirio asked, hoping he had chosen a good present after all.
(First Name) nodded, gripping the rock slightly and smiling brightly at the boy. She was set to be released early the next day,and she still wouldn’t be returning for another day in case something randomly popped up,but she didn’t find the hospital scary at all anymore thanks to Mirio.
“I’ll bring you something super cool tomorrow,’kay? Imma come over to your house and give you the absolute best present ever!” Mirio promised with a giant grin. “Get ready for the best present ever!”
(First Name) nodded and gave him a bright smile, happy he would continue to come around; Mirio was like a hero.
The next day, looking at her classroom full of happy first-graders,Mrs.Ayumi knew what she had to do to keep the class busy so she would have time to grade papers for her other classes. “As Togata has continued to point out,(Last Name) had spent the last few days in the hospital and got out today, and she’ll be coming to school again starting tomorrow. She still won’t be able to speak for a month or so,so we all need to be sure to help her out, okay?”
“Yes ma’am!” The class called out in unison, though there were a few kids who turned to talk to each-other.
“Since one of our friends is hurt right now,we'll all be making a present for her so she can get better soon. Does anyone have any ideas on what we should make?” Mrs.Ayumi asked, looking around the classroom.
“Let’s make a cup!” Maya called out, knowing someone with a sore throat needed to drink a lot.
“Let’s pick a bunch of flowers!” Hiro added, wanting to see what kind of face she’d make if they gave her a giant bouquet.
“No,we should paint something!” Nita snapped, thinking of making a sign for the girl.
“What does she even like?” Mitsuyu asked, before turning to look at Mirio for an answer. “You should know, right,Mirio?”
“Um..” Mirio thought for a moment, before his eyes lit up. “She likes candy and strawberries, and her mama said she likes cooking!”
“How about everyone splits into groups and makes different presents? One group can make a cup, another group can paint something, and another group can come up with something themselves. We can’t pick the flowers,so we can’t give her a bunch of them, but you guys can make some if you want,” Mrs.Ayumi suggested, wanting to avoid as much conflict as possible.
The children split into groups happily, eager to have something to do to keep their little hands busy. Maya worked on making a cup out of clay with some of her friends,Hiro and some of his friends began cutting out a bunch of flowers, and Nita worked with her own group of friends to paint a wooden picture frame that was left over from another class.
Mirio, who was unsure of what group to join, just looked around the room and tried to think. Only able to think of one thing (First Name) might like,he walked over to the teacher’s desk, tugging on her shirt. “Mrs.Ayumi, those aprons we wear when we paint in here,do you have a spare?”
“Hm? Yes,why?” Mrs.Ayumi asked, looking over at him; she’d do anything to get the boy to leave her alone so she could work in peace.
“I wanna paint one for her,so can I have it?” Mirio asked, confident he could make one that looks super pretty.
Mrs.Ayumi nodded and stood, walking over to the cabinet she kept the spare aprons in. Pulling out one that she knew would be big on the child, she returned to her desk, giving it to Mirio and sitting down once again. “Be careful not to make a giant mess.”
“Yes ma’am!” Mirio chirped, scurrying off to begin working on painting and decorating the apron.
That afternoon,Mirio had nothing to give (First Name) besides the paper flowers Hiro’s group had made, though he promised her that she would get a bunch of problems the following day once everything else finished drying.
(First Name) was shocked when she finally returned to school and was given a bunch of presents. Maya’s clay cup had cracked a little in the kiln, making it useless for drinking, but (First Name) was still really happy when they gave it to her. The wooden picture frame that Nita’s group had made was covered in splotchy paint splatters, but she could still distinguish where they had tried to paint a strawberry. The apron Mirio had painted was pretty, but there were paint splotches and the clouds he had tried to make looked like lumpy balloons, but (First Name) couldn’t help but grin. Though it hurt her throat, she still forced a quiet and sweet ‘thank you’ out, giving her classmates a giant grin that made the hard work they had all put in worth it.
(First Name) was finally allowed to speak again only a month later, though her voice was a little hoarse at first. Slowly, she returned to being able to speak like she had before everything that had happened, the girl eagerly talking with her classmates and growing closer to them. Thanks to Mirio, she was finally able to make friends that didn’t care whether she could speak or not,and she was able to smile and laugh with everyone.
When Tamaki came to their school two years later, and Mirio ended up befriending the boy quickly and claiming him to be his best-friend,(First Name) was happy to have another friend in their group.
“Hey,Amajiki, your ears are super cool! They’re pointy!” (First Name) told him happily one day, grinning brightly. “You’re like an elf!”
“An.. An elf..?” Tamaki stuttered, wondering whether she was complimenting him or making fun of him. “What.. What does that mean..?”
“Like an elf prince! Like in games and stuff!” (First Name) told him,her eyes sparkling as she looked at him.
“They really are pointy, huh?” Mirio pinched Tamaki’s ear slightly, laughing when the boy jumped. “Sorry, sorry,I won’t do it again! Wanna walk home together today?”
“I.. I guess..” Tamaki looked down at his lap,his cheeks burning with embarrassment.
“I wanna stop and get candy on our way!” (First Name) told Mirio, grinning. “Mama gave me some money,so I can pay for you guys, too!”
“I definitely want a box of Pocky, then!” Mirio grinned, eager to have the chocolatey treat. “What do you want,Tamaki?”
“Ah,uh.. I.. I’m fine..” Tamaki muttered nervously, staring at his lap.
“You don’t have to pay for it,you know? (First Name) said she’ll pay!” Mirio reminded him, sighing when the boy claimed he still didn’t want anything. “Fine,fine.. We’ll just get you something anyways!”
“Yep!” (First Name) agreed, smiling brightly. When the teacher called for everyone to return to their seats, she did so with a pout, wishing she could talk to her friends longer.
That afternoon,(First Name) noticed Tamaki staring at a shrimp-flavored bag of chips, the girl grabbing it and grabbing a bag of suckers while Mirio grabbed a box of pocky. Marching over to the counter, she set everything down and paid, holding the bag of chips out to Tamaki afterwards. “You wanted these, right? Take them,I don’t like them.”
“But you.. But you paid for them..” Tamaki muttered, looking down at his feet with red cheeks.
“It’s fine! Mama gave me plenty!” (First Name) assured him happily, pushing the bag into his arms and heading out the door with a grin. “Come on!”
“If you feel that bad about it,just buy the snacks for us next time we stop here. We trade off anyways,” Mirio told Tamaki as he followed (First Name) out of the store eagerly. Holding the door open,he looked at the boy and grinned. “Come on,Tamaki.”
“Ah,com.. Coming..” Tamaki held the bag of chips tightly and scurried over to the door, thanking Mirio for holding it open and thanking (First Name) for buying it for him.
“It’s fine. We’re friends, right? Friends give things to each-other all the time!” (First Name) assured him as she led the way happily. Opening the bag,she grabbed one of the strawberry suckers and unwrapped it,shoving the bag into her backpack and popping the sucker in her mouth before throwing the wrapper away in a nearby trash can. “Hey,Tamaki, what do you like to eat? I like to cook, and Mirio likes eating!”
“I only like eating ‘cause you make things that are tasty!” Mirio huffed, puffing out his cheeks slightly. “If you were a bad cook,I wouldn’t eat it at all!”
“I.. I like tak.. Takoyaki..” Tamaki muttered, staying close behind them. He could tell they were close friends, but he didn’t feel out-of-place like he usually did.
“Really? I’ve never made it before, but I could try!” (First Name) grinned, looking over at him. “If I make it,will you eat it?”
“Su.. Sure!” Tamaki wondered whether the girl could actually make it,and if she would actually spend the time to do so,but part of him could tell she would try her best.
“I’ll make sure to taste-test it! (First Name)’s a good cook, but she also messes up a lot,so I’ll make sure she doesn’t!” Mirio assured Tamaki with a grin.
“You can’t even fold a towel,so shut up!” (First Name) huffed childishly, though she was still smiling. “I’ll definitely make the absolute best takoyaki for Tamaki!”
“Than.. Thank you..” Tamaki muttered, his cheeks heating up slightly as he stopped in front of his house. “This.. This is my place..”
“Then we’ll see you tomorrow,Tamaki!” The duo said in unison, grinning at him and waving as he headed inside. After the door shut, they turned and raced towards their own houses eagerly.
“I’ll definitely beat you today!” Mirio told her as he ran eagerly.
“No way,I’m winning!” (First Name) snapped, hot on his heels. Despite her best efforts, the boy still beat her to her house, making her huff. “You cheated anyway! You had a headstart!”
“Nuh-uh! You’re just made you lost!” Mirio stuck his tongue out at her with a grin. “Are you really gonna try and make takoyaki, though?”
“Yep! I’ll look up a bunch of videos online and make some for lunch tomorrow!” (First Name) grinned at him. “I wanna make Tamaki smile! He looked super scared all day,but if he eats his favorite food,he’ll be happy, right?”
“I wanna help, then!” Mirio told her, marching into her house without even knocking. “We’ll make the best takoyaki ever!”
(First Name) nodded and followed Mirio inside, scurrying to the kitchen immediately. Tying the apron around her waist and grabbing the takoyaki pan her mother had stashed away, she looked up some recipes for it online, wondering how to even get started.
“Do you even have any of that stuff?” Mirio asked as he looked at the list of ingredients. “This looks like a lot..”
“It’s not that much!” (First Name) told him, looking through the fridge. Luckily, they had everything they would need since her mother had been planning on making it for dinner that night. Putting some octopus her mother had chopped that morning into a pot of water and watching as it began to boil, she grinned. “First, wash your hands and put on an apron!”
“Yes ma’am!” Mirio did as told, eagerly tying the red apron around his waist and washing his hands.
“Um.. It says we need two cups of Dashi..” (First Name) read from the list, pulling the drawer open and grabbing her measuring cups before closing it once again. Putting her little footstool down so she would have better access to the counter, she pointed at one of the cabinets. “Get me a big bowl,’kay?”
Mirio did as told, watching as she poured two cups of Dashi into the bowl. Realizing they also needed soy sauce in the bowl,he poured a teaspoon of it and added it to the bowl. “We need two eggs next, right?”
“Yep!” (First Name) said, cracking them and adding them to the bowl. “Get two tablespoons of flour.”
Mirio did as told, though he spilled some on the counter in the process. “We need a cup of flour as well,though..”
“I know,” (First Name) assured him, scooping a full cup of flour into the bowl. “We got the eggs, soy sauce,flour,Dashi,and.. And what else did we need?”
“Salt!” Mirio poured a little salt into the bowl and grinned. “Now we mix it!”
“Yep!” (First Name) started to mix everything together carefully, smiling as it began to turn into the same kind of batter her mother made. “Now,we have to wait for the octopus to finish boiling! Then,we grease the takoyaki pan!”
“What should we do until then?” Mirio asked, tilting his head to the side curiously.
(First Name) thought for a moment, before washing her hands and hurrying over to her bag. “We have homework!”
“Oh yeah! I forgot about that!” Mirio giggled, washing his own hands once again before hurrying over to her. “Where’s your mama at,anyways?”
“She’s visiting grandma and won’t be home until later,” (First Name) told him, pulling the homework sheets out and sitting down at the kitchen table to begin working on it. “Where’s your mama?”
“She’s at home, but she knows I’m hanging out with you today. I told her this morning that I was gonna be here for a while.” Mirio sat down across from her, beginning his homework as well.
Once she was completely sure that the octopus had boiled enough, she turned the stove off and carefully poured the contents of the pan into the strainer, waiting for the pieces to cool before greasing the takoyaki pan and turning it on. “We have to be super careful around the pan, okay? Don’t touch it carelessly!”
“I’ll be super careful!” Mirio promised her, smiling brightly. “I’ll be the absolute most careful person ever!”
“You better be..” (First Name) muttered, carefully pouring the batter once the pan was ready. Adding the octopus pieces, she watched as the meat sunk into it,carefully turning and poking at them with a chopstick. “This is how the video showed to do it,right?”
“We need to add the onions and the ginger, remember?” Mirio reminded her, glad they had chopped them earlier.
“Right..” (First Name) muttered, sprinkling the chopped onions and ginger all over the pan. Being careful, she continued to turn the little takoyaki using the chopstick, her eyes lighting up once they began to look a little like the ones in the videos they had watched did. Turning the pan off,she carefully got the takoyaki out using the chopsticks and placed them on a plate, looking at Mirio with bright eyes after. “We did it!”
“They look a lot like the ones in the video did..” Mirio muttered, amazed they had actually done so well. “You’re amazing,(First Name)..”
“We just need the sauce now, right?” (First Name) asked, grinning as she grabbed the takoyaki sauce and held it out to Mirio. “You should sauce them!”
Mirio nodded, pouring the sauce all over them and grinning once he was satisfied with how they looked. Biting into one,his eyes lit up at the taste. “Tamaki will definitely love these!”
(First Name) nodded and grinned, setting a bunch aside to give to Tamaki tomorrow.
“And what are you two doing?” (Mother’s Name) asked from the doorway of the kitchen, sighing as she examined the mess the children had made. The pan was covered in batter that had burnt, the counter had eggshells and flour all over it,and the kids themselves were covered in scribbles from when they had decided to draw on each-other instead of doing their work, but nobody looked hurt.
“We made takoyaki for Tamaki!” (First Name) bragged to her mother, grinning. “He said it’s his favorite,so I wanted to make it!”
“So what’s with the scribbles?” (Mother’s Name) pinched the bridge of her nose, too tired to actually get angry at the duo.
“We were doing homework, and I drew a smiley face on Mirio’s paper, and then he drew a line on mine,so I drew a scribble on his,and then he drew one on me ‘cause I wouldn’t move my hand to let him get to my paper,so I drew on him,” (First Name) reported, proud of herself.
“Just.. Clean the kitchen, and then scrub your hands clean, okay?” (Mother’s Name) sighed, walking towards the stairs. “By the time I’m out of the shower,I expect it to be spotless.”
“Yes ma’am!” They called out in unison, setting to work happily.
Once they finally finished cleaning, the duo flopped down on the couch for a break, both of them falling asleep quickly. When (Mother’s Name) saw that they had fallen asleep, she just put a blanket over them and decided to try one of the takoyaki, surprised they had actually gotten it to taste decent. Since she didn’t need to worry about making dinner now,she just cleaned the kitchen properly and sat down with an amused smile, though she dozed off after a while as well.
The next day,(First Name) and Mirio set the bento full of takoyaki down in front of Tamaki and grinned at him. When the elf-eared boy bit into one,his expression lit up and a bright smile appeared on his face, which made both (First Name) and Mirio smile even brighter as well.
The little duo became a trio because of a stuttered introduction, bag of shrimp-flavored chips, and surprisingly tasty takoyaki.
You know I love it when your hair’s messed up,and the tightness in your eyes when you first wake up
Let’s play hide-and-seek in the comfort of blankets and sheets
Twelve-year-old (First Name) waved her arms around childishly,a blanket draped over her. “Woooh,I’m a spooky ghosttttt!”
“Really (First Name)..?” Mirio asked, chuckling and shaking his head. “Put my blanket back on my bed and get back to studying. We have a test coming up.”
(First Name) pouted, pulling the blanket down so it was just draped over her shoulders. “How come you don’t wanna just goof off?”
“I need to make sure I keep high grades if I want to get into UA. If I fail a class,it’ll look really bad for me,” Mirio told her, trying to make an acronym he could easily remember for the elements on the periodic table. Starting to feel frustrated,he tugged at his hair and sighed. “You’re gonna fail if you don’t get back to work,so stop goofing off already.”
(First Name) frowned, knowing Mirio was stressing himself out too much. Walking up behind him,she wrapped her arms around his neck as she sunk to her knees, pulling him back so his head was on her chest. “You need to take a break,Mirio.. Studying non-stop like this is unhealthy..”
Mirio stared up at her, letting out a sigh. “You’re too flat to be a chest pillow, you know?”
(First Name)’s face flooded with color, the girl letting out a huff and pushing him away. “Then get off of me,you brat! I was just trying to get you to relax for a minute anyways!” She snapped, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. “I’ll never, ever, ever, ever,do that again!”
“I’m sorry, okay? It’s not a bad thing that you’re flat-chested,it’s just nothing like when Daiya does it,” Mirio explained, rubbing the back of his neck as he tried to think of how to make it up to her. “I like your thighs, though!”
“If you like her chest so much,go marry her!” (First Name) huffed, standing up and stomping out to get a soda from the kitchen. Stopping in the hallway, she looked down at herself, wondering when she would actually get breasts like some of her other classmates. Pushing the thought away and deciding she didn’t care when or if she ever grew breasts, she went down and opened the fridge, grabbing two drinks and returning to Mirio’s room.
Mirio had tried to figure out how to cheer (First Name) up,as he knew he had probably hurt her feelings,so he draped his blanket over himself and hid in the corner when she left the room. When he heard his door open,he pounced on her and pulled her into a hug, laughing when she jumped and cursed at him for startling her. “I’m sorry for saying that stuff, alright? I don’t care about whether your chest is big or small or anything like that,I was just annoyed ‘cause I’ve been studying for too long..”
(First Name) looked at him, still pouting, and realized immediately that she could never be upset with him for long. “I’ll forgive you,but.. Do you like Daiya..?”
“Of course not! She’s cool, but you’re the best!” Mirio told her, laughing. “Were you jealous that I brought her up or something?”
“No,but I thought it was weird that you brought her up like that..” (First Name) admitted, before stepping out of the hug and shoving the soda she’d grabbed for him into his hand. “If you ever fall in love, you’ve definitely gotta tell me,’kay? You can’t marry a useless person.”
“I will,I will..” Mirio threw his blanket onto his bed and flopped down on it,cracking the soda open and taking a drink. “And you’d better tell me if you fall in love with someone, too, got it? I’ll beat them up if they try and screw you over.”
“Screw me over?” (First Name) raised an eyebrow, opening her own soda and taking a sip before sitting beside him.
“Well,a lot of people aren’t loyal to the people they’re dating, you know? You could get cheated on,or you could end up with someone who likes to beat people, and I don’t want that..” Mirio frowned at the idea, his grip on his can tightening slightly. “If someone ever hurts you or breaks your heart,me and Tamaki will beat them up for sure!”
“Same goes for you, okay? I’ll beat up anyone who hurts you,” (First Name) told him, smiling brightly. “But if you ever cheat on someone, don’t expect me to have you back,’kay?”
“Of course not! If I ever cheat, you’d better knock some sense into me!” Mirio laughed, soon finishing his soda. “You ready to get back to working?”
(First Name) nodded, finishing up her own soda and throwing it away in the trash can Mirio kept by his desk. Sitting back down in front of her own notebook, she set back to work happily as her friend did the same.
After a while,Mirio looked over to ask (First Name) a question, shutting his mouth and smiling when he saw that she had fallen asleep. He carefully put his jacket over her shoulders, knowing the weight of his blanket would probably wake her up,and then sat back down in front of his notebook, trying to get back to studying. He couldn’t help but look at her once again, taking in the familiar sight of her relaxed face as she slept; he had seen her asleep plenty of times throughout the years, but he always found it absolutely adorable how her nose twitched and she occasionally crinkled her eyes as she slept.
Leaning into the palm of his hand and just watching her for a while,Mirio inevitably dozed off as well, his head slowly sliding off his palm and sinking into the bend of his elbow. He drooled just slightly as he laid there,a slight smile on his face as he slept.
(First Name) woke up first, the girl blinking and rubbing her eyes tiredly as she tried to wake herself up completely. Slowly coming back to her senses, she realized Mirio’s jacket was wrapped around her shoulders, the girl only pulling it tighter around herself and looking over to see if Mirio was awake or not. Seeing that he was asleep, she carefully and quietly scooted over to him, wanting to see his sleeping face even closer. The way his fingers twitched, and the little upward curve of his lips, had always been present when the boy was asleep, and today was no different. Deciding against just leaving while he was asleep, she wondered what she should do,the girl carefully reaching out and poking his palm as she thought. When he suddenly closed his hand around hers and snuggled closer to his arm,(First Name) couldn’t help but smile, leaning into her free arm and shutting her eyes before dozing off once again.
Aiko soon came up to check on them, smiling when she saw that they were holding hands in their sleep. Taking a quick picture and texting it to (Mother’s Name) to let her know that (First Name) would probably be spending the night since she was already asleep, she retreated out of the room quietly with a knowing smile; this wasn’t the first time this had happened, and this probably wouldn’t be the last time.
Mirio woke up the next morning, his grip on (First Name)’s hand tightening slightly as he began to come to his senses. Groaning and straightening his back,he felt it crack a few times, the boy letting out a yawn and looking around. Realizing he was holding (First Name)’s hand,he let go of it and carefully pulled his hand away, wondering whether he had grabbed her hand without realizing it or she had held his hand first. Not really caring what had led to it,he shook her shoulder and yawned again. “(First Name),wake up..”
(First Name) let out a tired whine and turned her head away, burying her face further in her arm since she didn’t want to wake up yet. When Mirio blew air into her ear,she jolted awake, turning and glaring at him. “What the heck was that?”
“I had to wake you up somehow, you lazybones. We fell asleep while studying,so you spent the night,” Mirio sighed, standing up and stretching again. “I’ll lend you some of my clothes if you wanna take a shower.”
“That’d be nice..” (First Name) muttered, stumbling to her feet and stumbling to Mirio’s bathroom. Grabbing a wrag and running it under some cold water in the sink, she wiped her face with it to wake herself up,the girl finally coming to her senses some more. “Give me one of your comfy hoodies,’kay?”
“I already know the clothes of mine you like, you moron,” Mirio told her, grabbing a black hoodie,a pair of his shorts, one of the spare bras she kept at his house, and one of the panties from the pack he kept for if she bled through a pad while on her period,he gave her the clothes. “Don’t use all of my conditioner, and don’t use all of the hot water.”
“I won’t..” (First Name) yawned, shutting the door and locking it before stripping down and getting in the shower.
After they had both showered and woken up,(First Name) washed their uniforms and went to the kitchen, knowing Mirio’s parents were both out for work. “Hey,Mirio, what do you want for breakfast?” She called out as she looked through his fridge. “I’m thinking about pancakes, but I won’t if you want something else.”
“I’m down for pancakes,” Mirio told her as he kept drying his hair with the towel. “I don’t really want any rice or eggs or any of that stuff this morning,so pancakes would be nice..”
“Got it.” (First Name) set to work on making the batter, yawning a little. “What do you plan on doing today?”
“Since it’s Sunday,we still have school tomorrow, and our test is later this week,so I’ll probably study after you leave.. What about you?” Mirio sat down, watching her quietly.
“I’ll finish washing and drying our uniforms and then I’ll probably stop by Tamaki’s house and see if he needs anything before heading home,” (First Name) admitted, pouring the batter into the pan. “If Tamaki doesn’t need anything, and I get home early,I’ll probably try and study a little as well..”
Mirio nodded, looking down at his hands as he suddenly thought of a bit of a serious question. “Hey,what highschool are you wanting to get into? Are you gonna apply to UA with me and Tamaki?”
“I don’t know yet..” (First Name) admitted, staring into the pan and waiting to flip the pancake. “I wanna go to highschool with you guys,of course, but I don’t know if I’d be any good at being a hero..”
“You’d definitely make a cool hero! Since your Quirk lets you power up your limbs, you could beat any villain up!” Mirio assured her, wanting her to at least try. “We’d all be able to train together if we all got in,you know? It’d be a lot of fun.”
“Let me rephrase that..” (First Name) sighed, knowing Mirio wouldn’t understand it if she didn’t tell him outright. “I don’t think I want to be a hero,Mirio. I have nothing against heroes, and you know I’ll support you,but I don’t really see myself becoming one.”
“What do you wanna be,then?” Mirio asked, looking at her curiously.
(First Name) flipped the pancake and thought for a moment. “I think I could be a doctor,or a teacher,or,well.. I don’t really know what I’d wanna be..”
“You could be a photographer like your father,or a computer technician like your mother. You’re good at that kind of stuff, right?” Mirio suggested, wondering what kind of job would suit (First Name); he had only ever really imagined her as a hero, but if she didn’t want to be one, then he would just have to imagine her as something she’d like being. “Or what about a vet?”
“I don’t really wanna do that stuff seriously.. It’s all fun,but it’d be annoying after a while..” (First Name) set the first pancake on a plate, pouring the batter into the pan to begin another pancake. “There’s not much that I think is super cool, you know?”
Mirio gnawed on his lip for a moment as he thought, his expression lighting up when he realized the answer was staring at him. “Why don’t you become a chef?”
“A chef?” (First Name) asked, thinking about it for a moment. “It.. It would actually be kinda fun to be a professional chef..”
“You’re good at it,and you like it,so you should try it out! UA has Lunch Rush, and he’s the best chef,so if you enroll in the general studies course there and talk to him,I’m sure he’d teach you all sorts of recipes!” Mirio grinned, his blue eyes sparkling. “We can all attend UA together, even if you’re not in the hero course.”
“I’ll give it a shot,then..” (First Name) smiled slightly, trying to imagine herself as a professional chef; when she could actually see herself doing it,she felt even happier. “I’ll get so good that everyone who eats the food I make smiles!”
“And I’ll become an awesome hero!” Mirio told her, only starting to eat once she had made herself two pancakes as well. Soaking his pancakes in syrup,he finally began eating, smiling as he tasted the sweetness. Wiping his mouth,he looked over at (First Name) for a second and smiled, certain his next words were true. “You’ll definitely be the best chef ever.”
“And you’ll be the best hero ever!” (First Name) grinned, eating another bite of her pancakes happily.
It was a year later when Mirio noticed that he could no longer tease his friend for being flat-chested. Since (First Name) had begun cooking all sorts of foods, and had found out that she had a particular talent for desserts, the girl had put on a little bit of weight,as did her chest.
“(First Name) has tits now, huh?” Futoshi, one of the many classmates that had noticed the change, asked Mirio one day while he watched the girl talk and laugh with some of the girls in their class.
“Huh?” Mirio asked, looking at him and hoping he had just misheard him somehow.
“(First Name). She has titties now,” Futoshi repeated, still staring at the girl. “Last year, she looked like a board, but she’s actually got some meat on her now.. You two hang out and she spends the night at your house a lot, right? Have you ever seen her naked?”
“Of course I haven’t seen her like that, and watch what you say about her,” Mirio told him, clenching and unclenching his fists as he tried to calm himself down.
“Chill out,I was just wondering,geez..” Futoshi sighed, finally looking at Mirio. “How come you look so upset, dude? You never care when we talk about nudey magazines.”
“Those things are different. (First Name)’s my friend, not some girl in a magazine,so talking about her like that feels wrong,” Mirio frowned, annoyed that Futoshi didn’t seem to understand what was so wrong about it.
Futoshi leaned into the palm of his hand, wondering whether or not he should try and piss Mirio off. “What would you do if someone actually confessed to her?”
“What’re you talking about? Does someone have a crush on her or something?” Mirio asked, raising an eyebrow. “Who is it?”
“Well what would you do if I asked her out?” Futoshi asked, biting back a smirk. “She’s pretty easy on the eyes, and she’s got a big enough chest,so she would probably be good in bed.”
Mirio’s entire expression darkened, the boy’s usual smile disappearing in an instant at the idea of someone using her for her body. “If you so much as touch her,I’ll seriously kill you,Futoshi.”
Futoshi paled slightly at the boy’s words, the boy unable to laugh it off as a joke like he usually would; he could tell Mirio was completely serious, and it was terrifying enough to leave him silent.
(First Name) looked over when she suddenly felt the atmosphere in the room change, frowning when she saw that Mirio looked upset. “Hey,Mirio, what’s wrong?” She asked as she walked over, patting his shoulder when she didn’t get a response. “Mirio? You okay?”
Mirio snapped out of it when he felt (First Name)’s touch, though his anger hadn’t subsided quite yet. “I’m fine, sorry,I was just telling Futoshi a scary story and wanted to scare him even more,” He told her, smiling brightly at her. “Did I take it too far?”
(First Name) could tell he was lying, but she didn’t want to force him into telling the truth,so she pretended to believe him. “You were super spooky! You had a face like an angry ghost!”
“I’ll hold back next time, then! I was just playing around!” Mirio laughed, leaning into her and grinning as he used her stomach as a pillow for a second. “You’re super warm today.”
“Really? It’s not even that cold out..” (First Name) felt his forehead to see if he was running a fever, relaxing when she realized that he had a normal temperature. “You’d better not catch a cold.”
“I won’t if I have you to warm me up!” Mirio told her childishly, grinning up at her as his anger completely disappeared.
(First Name) rolled her eyes and ruffled his hair, stepping back afterwards. “I’m gonna get back to Maya and the others,’kay? Tell me if something happens.”
“Everything’s fine,so don’t worry,” Mirio assured her, turning his attention to Futoshi once she was back with her friends. “You get it,right? She’s a good person,so I won’t let you just joke about wanting her for her body.”
“I won’t do it again, just please chill out..” Futoshi muttered, relaxing when he could no longer feel any hostility from Mirio.
“What.. What’s wrong,Mirio?” Tamaki asked during lunch later that day, able to tell that something was off about his friend.
Mirio wondered whether or not he should tell Tamaki, deciding he should since (First Name) wasn’t there yet. “You know Futoshi, right? He,uh.. Well, today,he kinda brought up (First Name)’s body, and he thought it’d be funny to say that he wanted to ask her out since she supposedly looks like she’d be great in bed..” He admitted, his eyes widening when Tamaki’s chopsticks snapped.
“He said what?” Tamaki looked at Mirio, his usual anxiousness replaced with anger. He wanted to beat the shit out of whatever asshole had the nerve to say something like that about his friend.
“I already said it once, and I don’t want to say it again..” Mirio sighed, eating a bit of his rice. “Don’t bother going to beat him up,I already told him what I’d do if he even touched her and he looked ready to piss himself. She doesn’t know, either,so don’t tell her.”
“Right..” Tamaki sighed, wondering how he was going to eat his lunch now that he had broken his chopsticks.
(First Name) arrived a few minutes later, the girl finally having just finished fixing a button on her uniform. Sitting down, she noticed immediately that Tamaki wasn’t eating. “Tamaki, what’s wrong? You not hungry?”
“I broke my chopsticks..” Tamaki admitted, looking down at the broken utensils.
“Use mine, then. I’m not hungry,” (First Name) told him, setting her own chopsticks in front of him and grinning. “How were your classes,anyways..?”
“Thanks..” Tamaki muttered, opening his bento and beginning to eat using (First Name)’s chopsticks. “Class.. Class was boring..”
“Didn’t you skip breakfast this morning? You need to eat,” Mirio sighed, swiping (First Name)’s bento from her and opening it. Using his own chopsticks,he grabbed some of the rice and offered it to her. “You’re actually hungry, aren’t you?”
(First Name)’s cheeks warmed up at the fact that he had been able to read her so well, the girl huffing and eating the rice off his chopsticks. “I ate a piece of toast..” She muttered, not wanting him to think she was starving.
“And? That’s nowhere near enough,” Mirio told her, offering her some more rice. “A future chef knows how important eating is,right?”
“Sor.. Sorry for using.. Using your chopsticks.. When you’re hungry..” Tamaki apologized, feeling bad that he had burdened his friend.
“It’s not a big deal,Tamaki. I can just eat like this,” (First Name) assured him, taking another bite and smiling.
Tamaki nodded slightly, soon finishing his own bento. “I’ll.. I’ll wash them.. And give them back..”
“Just keep them. I’ve got a ton of them at home, anyways,” (First Name) told him, continuing to let Mirio feed her.
Mirio could tell that a few people were staring at them, but he didn’t care, just wanting to make sure (First Name) ate her lunch properly. “What do you guys wanna do during break?”
“Sleepover!” (First Name) grinned at him. “It’s been nearly a month since I slept over at your place, and I miss how comfy your blankets are!”
“I.. I’ve gotta go with my mom.. To visit grandma..” Tamaki admitted,a little sad that he wouldn’t be able to hang out with them.
“We can have a sleepover when you get back, too!” (First Name) told Tamaki, grinning. “It’ll be a lot of fun!”
“We have almost a whole week off,so make sure you hurry back here so we can all laze around, alright?” Mirio asked Tamaki with a grin. “We’ll make takoyaki and watch silly movies.”
Tamaki nodded and smiled, knowing his friends would definitely throw a fun sleepover when he got back from his trip. “I’ll.. I’ll be waiting.”
Three days later,on the first day of their week-long break,(First Name) packed a bag full of snacks and clothes and hugged her mom. “I’ll be back in a few days!”
“(First Name),you guys can’t keep doing this forever, you know?” (Mother’s Name) asked, sighing. “You guys are starting to grow up,and your feelings might change, and you may end up wanting to do something you shouldn’t.. You get what I’m saying, right? This is the last time I’m going to let you spend the night at Mirio’s house when his parents have work in the morning.”
“But why? We’re not gonna do anything stupid!” (First Name) puffed out her cheeks, annoyed that this could possibly be her last sleepover with her friends. “Me and Mirio would never do anything bad!”
“What if something happens and you two start to feel differently about each-other,then?” (Mother’s Name) questioned, looking down at her. “You’re both growing up,and that means your bodies are changing. Mirio’s at the age right now where he starts to think about sex,you know?”
“Mirio’s not like that! He’s not dirty-minded,and neither is Tamaki!” (First Name) argued, annoyed that her mother acted like she knew them better than she did.
“They might not show it around you,but they’re definitely at that age. Kids start hiding dirty magazines and watching nasty videos right around now,and your friends are boys,so they’re going through a completely different change of hormones than you are,and many boys start to see their female friends in a dirty way as well,” (Mother’s Name) explained, sighing when she saw the annoyance on her daughter’s face. “If you don’t believe me,look around Mirio’s room, but don’t get upset at what you find.”
“I will! Mirio definitely won’t have anything dirty in his room!” (First Name) snapped, throwing her bag over her shoulder and stomping out. “If he doesn’t,I’m gonna keep having sleepovers with him,and you can’t complain!”
“Good luck, then,” (Mother’s Name) sighed, knowing her daughter would definitely find something.
Marching over to Mirio’s house, the girl marched right up to his room and set her bag down. “Mirio,do you have any dirty magazines?”
“Huh?” Mirio looked at her, shock and confusion written on his face. “Why?”
“Do you have any or not?” (First Name) asked, huffing slightly.
“Well,yeah.. Why did you wanna know, though?” Mirio admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. “Even Tamaki has some, you know?”
“Oh..” (First Name) muttered, frowning. “My mom said that this week is the last week I’m allowed to stay at your house ‘cause nearly every guy our age starts to see their female friends in a dirty way..”
“I don’t see you in a dirty way,but some guys at school do..” Mirio frowned, sitting down on the edge of his bed. “You and Tamaki are my best-friends,but I don’t love either of you guys in a dirty way..”
“So there’s no problem, right? We should still be allowed to have sleepovers, then!” (First Name) huffed, flopping down beside him. “We’re gonna be together forever anyway,so even if we one day see each-other that way,it’s not gonna be that big of a deal! We’ll always be friends!”
“Of course! We’re friends forever!” Mirio told her, deciding that they needed to make this an awesome sleepover if this was gonna be their last one. Grabbing his blanket,he hung it from the hook his father had installed on his ceiling for blanket forts, sitting back down on his bed and grinning over at her. “When Tamaki gets back from his trip, the three of us can pig out and make takoyaki together, and we can just goof off together until then,’kay?”
(First Name) nodded and grinned, launching herself at him and hugging him tightly. Burying her face in his neck, she grinned at how warm he felt. “I’ll definitely come over for another sleepover, even after this break! Mama can’t say no to it forever!”
Mirio nodded and hugged her back, just happy they were together like this. Stepping out of the hug after a while and deciding to make the blanket fort even bigger,he hung another blanket between two chairs, making a tunnel. “You remember doing hide-and-seek like this before?”
“You hit your head on the chair!” (First Name) giggled as she recalled the memory of the boy telling her to shut up as he held his head. “And you got super upset because I was laughing.”
“Well it had hurt pretty badly, you know?” Mirio grinned at her, draping a throw blanket over her head. “You’re like a bride!”
(First Name) shook her head and laughed, pushing him playfully. Ducking beneath one of the blankets, she disappeared into the comforting fabric, sitting down in the makeshift tent and waiting for Mirio to join her. “Wanna watch a movie?”
“Yep! A funny one!” Mirio pulled his phone out and started a comedy movie they had already watched a hundred times, sitting down beside her and holding his phone up so they could both see it.
(First Name) snuggled close to Mirio’s side so she could see the movie better, her eyes shining happily as she watched it with him. No matter what the future may bring, she knew she’d never be afraid of Mirio.
At the age of fourteen,(First Name) was ecstatic to get her acceptance letter from UA,and she was even happier when she learned that both of her friends had gotten in as well. They spent that night laughing and talking about what they planned on doing, pigging out on all sorts of snacks as they did so.
And all of my love, for the rest of my life, will be only for you ‘till the day that I die
‘Till the day that I die
(First Name) leaned against Mirio lazily, letting out a tired yawn and snuggling even closer to him. “Miriooooo,I wanna go homeeee..”
“I can’t help you with that,” Mirio told her with a chuckle, finding her complaints cute. “Want some rice?”
“Feed me?” (First Name) asked, giving him puppy eyes childishly.
“Of course,” Mirio fed her some of the rice, looking over when he heard his name from the girl that had followed Tamaki to the table. “Sorry, what’d you say?”
“I asked if you two were dating,” Nejire told him, eating some of her own rice. “You’re super touchy, and everyone in the hero course thinks you guys are together.”
“Seriously? Me and (First Name) are just friends. We’ve known each-other for a long time, that’s all.” Mirio shook his head, finding the idea of people thinking they were a couple ridiculous.
“People in my class ask that same thing all the time,it’s annoying..” (First Name) sighed, sitting upright. “Me and Mirio are always together, but that doesn’t mean we’re dating.”
“How do you guys date, then?” Nejire asked, tilting her head to the side. “Wouldn’t your partners be jealous?”
“Well neither of us has ever been out on a date, and nobody’s ever seriously confessed..” Mirio admitted, wondering why them being together was even a big deal. “If someone doesn’t like the way they are, they can just get over it,ya know?”
“So if you get married, you’ll feed (First Name) in front of them?” Nejire asked curiously. “And you’ll cuddle and be all touchy like that?”
“Well, yeah.” Mirio rolled his eyes, continuing to eat his own lunch. “(First Name)’s always gonna come first, and so is Tamaki,so if someone wants to marry me,they’ll be marrying them as well.”
“You’ll never get married if it’s like that,Togata! You’ve gotta think!” Genta, another classmate that had randomly decided to join them at their table, chimed in. “What if you have a kid? Would they be less important than your friends?”
“Well..” Mirio reluctantly shook his head, though he couldn’t imagine choosing a baby over his friends. “A kid would have to come first since it wouldn’t be able to take care of itself.”
“Okay,well.. What if you had to choose between being a hero or saving your friends?” Genta asked, wondering what the hell Mirio would choose; the correct answer was obvious to him.
“I’d choose being a hero, since I know (First Name) and Tamaki could save themselves,” Mirio said without hesitation. “And if I had to choose between saving myself and saving Tamaki or (First Name),I’d save them.”
“Don’t say that, you dummy!” (First Name) snapped, elbowing his side and huffing. “If I’m ever on the verge of dying, you’d better save yourself!”
“But whyyyy?” Mirio whined, rubbing his side and huffing. “Wouldn’t you wanna be saved?”
“Not if it meant you dying!” (First Name) glared at him. “Swear that you’ll never let yourself get killed?”
“Of course! I don’t have to worry about getting hurt,so you don’t need to worry!” Mirio grinned, holding his pinky out. “I’ll always make sure I can come home and eat the ramen you make!”
“Good..” (First Name) muttered, wrapping her pinky around his and then pulling away.
“What would you choose,(Last Name)? Taking care of Togata,or getting a husband?” Genta asked, tilting his head to the side.
“That’s not the same question you asked Mirio at all! That’s asking me to choose whether to abandon my friends for selfish reasons or not,and the obvious answer is no!” (First Name) huffed, puffing out her cheeks. “No matter what,Tamaki and Mirio come first! They’re the absolute most important people to me!”
“What about your parents?” Genta smirked, wanting to make her think. “You’ve gotta love your parents more, right?”
“Nope!” (First Name) chirped calmly. “My dad used to tell me that I needed to find friends that I treasure more than anything else, and that’s exactly what Mirio and Tamaki are! Mirio saved me from being all alone, and Tamaki reminded me that it’s okay to be scared sometimes,so I love them more than anyone and anything.”
“You guys are weird..” Genta muttered, chuckling as he pushed his hair out of his face. “If I had to choose between my friends and my family,I’d definitely choose my family.”
“It’s not like I don’t love my parents, but if I had to choose one or the other,I’d choose (First Name) and Tamaki over them as well,” Mirio admitted, finally finishing his lunch. “Because they know me better than anyone..”
“Like what?” Nejire asked curiously.
“His favorite food is ramen, and he loves to watch corny movies. He has a good sense of humor, but he always tells horrible puns with pride. You would think his favorite color was yellow, but it’s actually red,and he wishes he could have a pet rabbit,” (First Name) listed the first things she thought of calmly. “And Tamaki loves butterflies and takoyaki and the color blue. He likes flowers, and even if he’s quiet and doesn’t seem interested,he’s always willing to give good advice and listen to any complaints you have. He’s kind, good at telling jokes, and he’ll be a great hero just like Mirio.”
“The three of you should just date already,geez..” Genta sighed, shaking his head. “You guys are ridiculous..”
(First Name) looked up when the bell rang, sighing and packing her bento away. “See you guys after school,” She said before disappearing into the crowd.
Despite his words,Mirio found himself wondering about whether or not their relationship was somehow wrong. Instead of paying attention in class,he found himself mindlessly doodling as he thought over the topic of dating; he and (First Name) would both fall in love with people eventually, but what happens then? Would they split up? Would they really have to change their relationship? He didn’t like it.
“Togata, are you feeling sick?” The teacher asked when he noticed the boy’s expression.
“Ah,yes.. Can I go to the nurse?” Mirio tried to shove the thoughts away, thinking a nap might help him calm down.
“Go ahead,” The teacher replied, returning to teaching as the boy left.
Scurrying through the hallways,Mirio stopped in front of the nurse’s office, knocking and then sliding the door open. Peering inside and looking around,he sighed when he didn’t see Recovery Girl, just walking over to one of the beds and laying down. Despite his racing thoughts,he fell asleep rather quickly.
“To.. Togata..? Togata..? You should wake up..” A girl said as she gently shook his shoulder. “Hey,Togata, the teacher said you should go home if you’re still feeling badly..”
Mirio blinked a few times and groaned, sitting up and wincing when his head collided with the girl’s chin. “Motherfucker..” He muttered as he rubbed his head, finally coming to his senses. “Ah,wait, are you okay? Sorry about that..”
“I’m fine,I just bit my tongue a little..” The girl, who Mirio recognized as Reo,told him. “Are you okay? You looked like you were having a rough time during class, and then you looked like you were having a nightmare there..”
“Yeah,I’m fine..” Mirio sighed, rubbing his eyes. “Did the teacher send you or something?”
“He said that since you were gone for an entire class, you had probably come here and fallen asleep,so I should come check on you. When I got here, you were rolling around and looked anxious,so I woke you up.. Sorry,” Reo explained, rubbing the back of her neck. “Is there something going on?”
“No,I just.. I didn’t get much sleep last night..” Mirio yawned once again, looking at her. “Sorry for making you worry.”
“It’s part of my job as class rep,so it’s fine!” Reo told him, wanting to make him smile a little like he usually was. “Um.. What did the whisk say to the egg?”
“Huh..?” Mirio looked at her, before realizing she was trying to tell a joke. “I don’t know, what did it say?”
“It.. It’s time to beat it!” Reo winced at how cringy the joke was, though her eyes lit up when Mirio began laughing. “You like those kinds of jokes?”
“They’re the best kind of joke!” Mirio laughed, clutching his stomach. “I’ve never heard that one!”
“I have another! Um,what did the band-aid say to the cut?” Reo asked, hoping she was remembering it correctly.
Mirio’s laughter finally subsided, though he could already tell Reo’s next joke would be hilarious. “What did it say?”
“Wrap it up,wrap it up!” Reo started making chopping motions with her hands, starting to laugh at her own silliness.
Mirio burst into laughter and clutched his sides, the boy laughing so hard he started crying. “It.. it said ‘wrap it up’!” He cackled, tears streaming down his face as he tried to catch his breath.
Reo laughed, having to lean against the bed for support. “It.. It’s what a band-aid does,so.. So telling it to a cut is hilarious!”
“I know!” Mirio kept laughing, thought it eventually subsided into just a bunch of giggles and then just quiet wheezes. “No more jokes like that, okay? We.. We should probably get to class..” He said, letting out another wheeze when he remembered the joke again.
“Alright..” Reo giggled, holding her hand out to pull him to his feet. “Come on,then.”
Mirio stood up without her help and chuckled, grabbing his bag and heading out the door. “If the teacher asks,I said it was just a really bad headache, alright?”
“Yep!” Reo chirped as she followed close behind him happily. “Your secret is safe with me!”
Mirio walked back to class with her, noticing how she was blushing; that meant she liked him, right? The idea of dating Reo was kinda strange, but he wouldn’t be opposed to trying it. “Hey,Reo,do you like me?” He asked outright.
Reo’s face exploded into color, the girl nodding and staring at her feet shyly. “I.. I thought you had a girlfriend,though,so..”
“I don’t have one,” Mirio rubbed the back of his neck, looking down the empty hallway calmly. “If you wanna go out,we can..”
“Really?” Reo’s eyes lit up,though the blush on her cheeks only deepened. “Then.. Then the girl who’s always with you, what about her?”
“(First Name) and I are just friends,so you don’t have to get jealous of her, alright?” Mirio asked, looking over at her as he wondered if this could actually work out or not.
“Then we can definitely go out!” Reo told him,her face still burning. “I like you a lot!”
Mirio knew that meant he had to take her on a date, but he couldn’t imagine where a girl like her would want to hang out. “Pick somewhere for a date, then.”
“A date..? Already..?” Reo asked, struggling to come up with something. “The.. The library, then! Let’s have a study date at the library after school today!”
“Then come on,” Mirio told her, grabbing her hand and pulling her the rest of the way to the classroom.
(First Name) was putting books away that afternoon when she heard the door open, the girl looking over curiously. “Oh,Mirio? What’re you doing here? Have a project or something?”
“I’m here on a study date with Reo,” Mirio told her, moving out of the way so she could see Reo. “How come you’re here?”
Mirio being on a study date was weird to (First Name),but she decided not to point out that Mirio hated studying in the library, not wanting to ruin his date. “I’m in charge of putting the books away for today. It’s nice to meet you,Reo!”
“It’s nice to meet you as well!” Reo replied, bowing slightly. “Thanks for taking such good care of Togata!”
“Taking care of him..? What are you talking about?” (First Name) asked, not even trying to hide her confusion.
“Well, you’re always taking care of and looking out for him, right? Since I’m his girlfriend now,I can do it instead!” Reo smiled brightly at her. “That’ll make things easier for you, right?”
“That’s like saying being around Mirio is my job or something,” (First Name) muttered, rubbing the back of her neck. “I don’t really get what you’re talking about, but thanks,I guess?”
“Let’s just start studying,” Mirio told Reo,sitting down at one of the many empty tables and pulling out his notebook.
(First Name) just shrugged and began putting the books away, not paying much attention to Mirio and Reo. When she heard a quiet argument between two of the other visitors in the library break out in the aisle beside her,she did her best to ignore it,though things escalated quickly when a fight suddenly broke out.
“You stupid fucking idiot!” One of the boys snarled, shoving the other into one of the shelves.
Mirio looked up when he heard the fight break out,his eyes widening when he saw that a bunch of books had fallen out of the shelves (First Name) had just stacked. Annoyance exploding out of him suddenly,he stood up and stomped towards the fighting boys, grabbing them both by the ear and throwing them into the hallway. “This is a library! Screw off if you’re gonna cause trouble!” He shouted, slamming the door shut and stomping over to (First Name). “Why didn’t you chase them out?” He asked as he began to pick up some of the books.
“It’s actually more common than you think. They were arguing over characters, anyways,so I get why they were upset. If someone disrespects your favorite character,of course you’d get upset,” (First Name) told him, picking up the books with a smile. “Get back to your date, loverboy. I can handle things over here.”
“Are you sure? They knocked over a lot of books..” Mirio looked down at the books littering the ground, before looking at her with a frown.
“This much is nothing!” (First Name) assured him with a bright smile, returning the books to the shelf in the proper order. “Now hurry up!”
“Fine..” Mirio sighed, walking back over to Reo. “Sorry about that..”
“I’ve never seen you angry like that before! It was cool!” Reo told him, wondering if he’d get mad like that if someone hurt her.
“Really? People usually hate it when I get like that..” Mirio looked down at his notebook. “So what do you do for fun, anyways?”
“Oh,I spend most of my time studying! UA is pretty difficult to keep up with, you know?” Reo smiled brightly at him. “If I don’t stay on top of my studies,I won’t be able to train,so I have to be careful!”
“Right..” Mirio rubbed the back of his neck and tried to think of what else to say. “I like playing games and stuff..”
Reo’s eyes widened in amazement. “Really? I didn’t take you for the videogame type at all!”
“Ah,(First Name) got me into them back when we were kids.. We play those Pokemon games,Mario,Legend of Zelda, all that stuff..” Mirio admitted, chuckling as he recalled how (First Name) had practically bullied him into playing his first videogame. “She’s good at shooter games, but I like platformers with adventures.”
“We should definitely play together sometime, then! The two of us would probably make a great team!” Reo said, looking like an excited puppy.
Mirio thought it over, before realizing there was a big problem with that. “I don’t really have many multiplayer games,though.. (First Name)’s the one with a bunch of adventure games, not me.” His eyes traveled over to the girl, seeing she had already finished putting the books that had fallen back in their proper place.
“Do you think she’d maybe let us borrow one?” Reo asked, knowing the girl would probably agree; from what she’d heard in rumors,(First Name) was actually a really nice person,so there shouldn’t be a problem with her lending a video game.
“I’ll ask her about it tonight. I’m not gonna bother her when she’s in the zone like that,” Mirio told her, realizing Reo didn’t know what he meant by that. “Oh,(First Name) unconsciously uses her Quirk sometimes, and that’s why she can hold that giant stack of books like that. The more anxious she feels, the more strength her limbs have. It’s a cool Quirk, right?”
“Why isn’t she in the hero course? If I had a Quirk like that,I’d definitely wanna be a hero..” Reo frowned, staring at the girl.
“Because she wants to be a chef, not a hero,” Mirio bragged proudly. “Her cooking is the absolute best,so she’ll definitely be the greatest chef ever!”
“Right..” Reo muttered, before realizing how late it was getting. “Ah,I need to start heading home,it’s getting pretty late..”
“I’ll see you tomorrow, then!” Mirio told her, standing up and scurrying over to help (First Name) so they could walk home together. Without speaking,he carefully took some of the books the girl was holding, tucking them into their correct spots; he had learned the proper way to put books away after watching her do it so many times,so he knew what to do.
Reo watched them for a moment, before she just packed up her stuff and left. She reminded herself to not be jealous of (First Name),though part of her couldn’t help but be unhappy that Mirio wasn’t walking her home.
(First Name) soon finished putting the books away, looking over at Mirio. “What happened to your girlfriend?”
“She said she had to go home,so I thought I’d come help you out so you wouldn’t have to walk alone when it starts getting dark out. You’re supposed to have a partner assigned to help you with this, right? What happened with him?” Mirio looked over at her curiously as he tucked the last book away. “Did he skip out on you or something?”
“No,Chata isn’t like that, but he had practice early this morning and then had more after-school,so I told him I’d handle it so he didn’t have to worry,” (First Name) told him, smiling brightly. “He’s super cool when he plays, you know? The other day, during gym,he caught a ball that was coming at me like it was nothing!”
“You didn’t get hurt, right?” Mirio asked, worried she had somehow hidden an injury from him.
“I’m fine,it didn’t hit me,” (First Name) assured him, reaching up and patting his head with a grin. “We need to get going before it gets too dark out, remember?”
“Yeah,yeah..” Mirio pushed her hand away and walked over to his stuff, packing away his notebooks calmly and throwing his bag over his shoulder before heading to the door and holding it open for (First Name). “So what’d you think of Reo?”
“She looked nice, but I don’t really think she understands much about you..” (First Name) admitted, walking out of the library door. “You can study for hours on end,but you can’t actually focus in the library at all,so a study-date like that kinda shows she doesn’t understand you.. What’d you guys talk about, anyways?”
“Well I asked her what she likes to do,and she said she likes studying..” Mirio sighed, walking with (First Name) towards the front door of the school. “Oh,can I borrow one of those multiplayer games you have? She wants to try and play a game together sometime soon, but I don’t have any that she’d like.”
“What, she can’t handle Throat Crushers 17?” (First Name) asked teasingly, laughing when he shook his head. “My collection is yours, good sir!”
Mirio laughed and shook his head, nudging her shoulder. “You’re an idiot, you know that? How’re things going with trying to get on Lunch Rush’s good side, anyways?”
“Principal Nezu gave me permission to ask him if I can be his ‘intern’ for a while, but he said that Lunch Rush has to agree to it first,so I’m gonna ask him tomorrow,” (First Name) told him, looking over and grinning at him. “Wanna come with?”
“Of course. I’ll be there for moral support!” Mirio grinned cheekily as he kept walking. “He’ll definitely love your cooking.”
(First Name) nodded and stayed close behind Mirio, though she wasn’t as confident in her skills as Mirio was; from how Principal Nezu had described it,Lunch Rush was actually really strict on people in the kitchen,so she needed to get on his good side.
Early the next morning,(First Name) stood in the kitchen of UA,trying her best to look brave as she was scrutinized by the hero. “Mr.Lunch Rush?”
“Principal Nezu had told me there was someone who wanted to work with me in the kitchen here, and I expected a student, but I didn’t expect a first-year,” Lunch Rush,or Kuu,told her honestly. “I should probably ask you a bunch of questions, but I only really have two.. Who is it you want to cook for,and what makes you enjoy cooking?”
“I want to cook for people who are hungry,” (First Name) said without hesitation, confident that her answer was correct. “And I like cooking because it can make people happy.”
“Your answer to the first question is wrong, but your reason for enjoying it is right. Show me what you can make, and I’ll judge from there,” Kuu ordered, sliding his mask off and setting it aside calmly. “Make anything you want.”
“Yes sir!” (First Name) nervously got to work, deciding to just make some strawberry mochi. She was careful to avoid making a mess as she made the sweets, soon setting a plate full of them in front of him. “That will work, right?”
Kuu nodded, grabbing one and taking a bite of it. Despite not liking sweets at all,he swallowed the bite he’d taken and then set the sweet down, looking at her calmly. “For the next few days,I want you to think of what a chef is supposed to do,and what it is that you actually want to do with your life, and then come back and tell me a different answer than the one you gave me today.”
“Did I mess it up..?” (First Name) asked, gnawing on her lip anxiously.
“No,the mochi was fine, but you’ve got to think over what I’ve told you today,” Kuu told her, standing up and sliding his mask on like usual. “Next time,if you can give me an answer I like,I’ll accept you into this kitchen.”
(First Name) nodded, though she didn’t understand where she’d gone wrong at all. Cleaning up the dishes she had used and then exiting the kitchen, she looked at Mirio, who had been waiting for her by the door. “He didn’t accept me..”
“What happened?” Mirio asked, frowning. “There’s no way he didn’t like what you made, your food is the best..”
“I don’t get it..” (First Name) admitted, sighing and walking towards her class. “I’ll talk to you about it during lunch.”
Mirio watched (First Name)’s retreating form, before looking down at his feet as he tried to think of what could possibly have made Lunch Rush turn her down; (First Name)’s food was amazing,so why? He hated that he couldn’t think of a way to help her.
“Togata?” Reo asked when she saw him just standing in the hallway, tapping his shoulder. “Hey,Togata, what’s wrong?”
Mirio snapped out of it,turning and giving Reo a bright smile. “It’s nothing,I was just thinking of something.. Did you just get here or something?”
“Yeah,I was just going to wait in the classroom for you,but I wanted to see you..” Reo admitted with a slight blush, smiling up at him. “What were you thinking of,anyways?”
“(First Name) was trying to get Lunch Rush to take her in under his wing, but he turned her down for some reason,so I was wondering why..” Mirio admitted, starting to walk towards their classroom. “If I asked him,I know he wouldn’t answer, but I can’t think of anything I could do to help (First Name) with this..”
“Oh,” Reo muttered, following him and giving a small smile still. “I’m sure she’ll be able to do it if her cooking is as good as you said it was!”
“Thanks,Reo..” Mirio muttered, though he was anxious at the idea of (First Name) looking as sad as she had looked earlier.
When it was finally time for lunch,(First Name) sat at her usual table and waited for Mirio, explaining what had happened to the blond once he arrived. “I’ve been thinking about it all day,but I don’t understand why wanting to cook for people who are hungry is the wrong answer..”
Mirio frowned, not understanding it either. “Is it supposed to be some sort of trick question where there is no right answer or something?”
“What made you start cooking in the first place,(Last Name)?” Reo asked, wanting to help her out.
“What do you mean?” (First Name) looked over at her, raising an eyebrow. “I’ve been cooking since I was a kid.”
“But what made you start it? Like, what was the first time you looked at food and said ‘I wanna make that’ or something?” Reo questioned curiously.
(First Name) thought for a moment, eating a bit of her rice before remembering why. “Oh,it was back when Mirio got sick and lost his voice.. I was scared he would never be able to speak again,so I asked my mom what kinds of foods sick people like, and when she told me they eat rice porridge,I asked her to make some. She made me make it myself, and I don’t really remember if it was actually any good, but I remember being super happy when Mirio got better.”
“Maybe Lunch Rush wants to know who you think of when you’re cooking?” Mirio asked suddenly, looking over at (First Name). “A chef needs to think of the person they’re cooking for, right?”
(First Name)’s eyes widened as the realization sunk in,feeling stupid she hadn’t thought of such an obvious answer. “So when he told me I could make anything,he was definitely testing me! He wanted me to cook something he’d like, not just anyone!”
“But how are you supposed to know what he likes to eat?” Mirio asked.
(First Name) thought for a moment, looking around at the people who were eating Lunch Rush’s food. Staring at their plates, she realized there was only one thing always present; white rice. “People who cook always unconsciously add the things they like to their dishes..” She muttered, eating a bit more of her rice and grinning. “I know what to cook next time.”
Mirio relaxed when he saw that (First Name) had cheered up,finally able to eat his own lunch without feeling too anxious. “You’ll blow him away for sure.”
A few days passed, and (First Name) was finally allowed to tell him the answer. “I know where I went wrong last time.”
“You do? Go ahead and tell me,then..” Kuu told her, taking his helmet off and looking at her. “Who is it you want to cook for,and what makes you enjoy cooking?”
“I want to cook for the people who want me to cook for them. I want to know what they like and what they hate in a dish, and how to make them happiest,” (First Name) told him honestly. “I thought that I like cooking because it makes people happy, but I like it because it makes me happy.”
Kuu chuckled and nodded, finding her answer almost perfect. “Your original answers, you told me what you thought I wanted to hear,so I couldn’t accept it. A chef is a person who is able to make something of their own out of recipes everyone knows. Now,let’s see what you can make.”
“Yes sir.” (First Name) set to work immediately, simply making some onigiri and setting them in front of him. “I noticed that all of your dishes always have white rice with a little bit of seaweed,so I thought it might be your favorite.”
Kuu looked between her and the onigiri, before bursting into laughter. “You’ve definitely got a keen eye if you noticed that! Geez, kid, welcome to the kitchen!”
(First Name)’s eyes lit up,the girl unable to hide her excitement. “So I passed?!”
“With flying colors,” Kuu told her, grabbing one of the onigiri and taking a bite with a chuckle. “You’ll definitely make this place a little more entertaining.”
“I won’t let you down!” (First Name) promised, cleaning the dishes quickly. “I’ll see you later,Mr.Lunch Rush!” She ran out of the kitchen quickly, seeing Mirio waiting by the door and giving him a giant grin. “I passed!”
“I told you that you could do it,” Mirio told her, grinning and ruffling her hair. “You’ll be working with the real Cook Hero now,so make sure you learn as much as you can, alright?”
“Of course! I’m not gonna waste this chance at all!” (First Name) vowed happily. “I’ll become a chef that can make anyone smile!”
A month passed, and Mirio was waiting for (First Name) at the front of the school excitedly when Reo called his name. “What’s up?” He asked as he turned to look at his girlfriend.
Reo looked up at him curiously. “How come you look so excited? You haven’t been able to sit still at all today, you know?”
“Me and (First Name) are going out to a new shop a few towns over to get some new cooking stuff, and while we’re there,we get to meet up with one of our friends!” Mirio told her, smiling brightly. “I haven’t seen him in a year,so I’m excited to see how things have been going for him.”
“Oh..” Reo looked down, trying not to feel jealous. “Could I come? I’d like to meet him.”
“Sure, but you’ll probably get bored. (First Name) always takes forever to pick the pans and stuff she wants,” Mirio warned, grinning when he finally saw (First Name). “(First Name),are you ready? We’ve gotta hurry!”
“I’m coming!” (First Name) waved him off, sliding her outdoor shoes on and running over to him with a grin. “I’ve been dying to check out their measuring cups! Their website said they have floral-print ones, and I love them!”
“The sunflower ones you showed me,right? They looked pretty,” Mirio told her, walking with her happily with Reo close behind. “We’re not spending all day in there, though, okay? Reo’s with us,and we’re meeting up with Hiro,so we’ll have to hurry.”
“Oh,Reo’s coming with us?” (First Name) asked, finally noticing the girl’s presence. “I’ll do my best to hurry, but I’ll probably still take at least an hour or two to choose.. Sorry in advance.”
“It’s fine..” Reo assured her, feeling out of place with them. The way Mirio and (First Name) talked was nothing like how she and Mirio spoke,so she felt pretty lonely. Grabbing Mirio’s hand, she laced their fingers, her cheeks heating up as she did.
“It feels like it’s been forever since Hiro moved away, right? I bet he’s finally gotten taller!” Mirio told (First Name),not minding that Reo was holding his hand.
“He looked like he’d gotten super tall in all of the pictures he sent, but he’s still the same old Hiro..” (First Name) muttered, giggling as she recalled how much the boy had cried when he told her he was moving away. “He sounds pretty happy, too.”
“So who is he,anyways..?” Reo asked, sick of being left in the dark.
“Oh,Hiro? He’s been our classmate since we were kids, but he’s never really been that close with us since he’s more of the sporty type of kid. He’s super nice, though,so we’ve never really had a fight or anything with him. He had to move away last year since his mother transferred jobs, and we haven’t seen him face-to-face since then,” (First Name) explained, keeping her eyes ahead of her excitedly. “I’m excited to see how much he’s changed!”
“He was one of the first people that wanted to be (First Name)’s friend and help her out back when we were a bunch of runts,” Mirio added, scanning his pass when they arrived at the train station. “You’ll probably like him.”
“Alright..” Reo scanned her own pass, getting on the train with him and (First Name).
After a quick train ride and spending an hour in the new store (First Name) had been so excited to see,the trio waited in a nearby cafe for Hiro to arrive.
“Isn’t that him..?” (First Name) asked after a while of looking out the window, her eyes lighting up when she spotted the birthmark on the boy’s arm. Jumping out of her seat, she ran over to the door and pushed it open. “Hey,Hiro,we’re over here!” She called out, waving at him with a grin.
Hiro looked over when he heard (First Name)’s voice, grinning at the sight of her and running over. Pouncing on her,he gave her a tight hug and a noogie, messing up her hair happily. “Geez, you’ve kept me waiting for a visit for too long, you know that?! Where’re Mirio and Tamaki?”
“Mirio’s inside, but Tamaki had to study for a project he’s working on,so he couldn’t come,” (First Name) explained, pushing his hand away and grinning as she pulled him inside excitedly. “You’ve definitely turned into a giraffe, you know? You’re huge!”
“Yeah, yeah,I know..” Hiro chuckled, following her inside. “You said you’ve become Lunch Rush’s apprentice, right? That’s super cool.”
“Thanks! I bought some really cool supplies today if you wanna check them out!” (First Name) bragged happily, leading him over to their table.
“It’s been a while,Hiro,” Mirio said as he waved at him with a grin. “You been well?”
“Yeah,it’s been pretty fun,” Hiro told him as he sat down beside (First Name) before noticing Reo. “Who’s the new girl? Your girlfriend?” He asked Mirio teasingly.
“Yeah, she is!” Mirio told him with a grin.
Hiro’s eyes widened at that, not really believing that Mirio would date someone besides (First Name). Looking to see how (First Name) felt about it,he relaxed when he saw that she was distracted with the bags full of baking supplies, glad that she didn’t seem to care. “Good on you,” He told Mirio, before turning his attention to Reo. “Take care of him for us,’kay? He’s annoying and childish most of the time, but he’s a good guy.”
“I will!” Reo squeezed Mirio’s hand nervously, though she kept a bright smile on her face.
“Oh,you wanted to show me that stuff you bought, right?” Hiro looked at (First Name),his eyes lighting up when he saw the sunflower measuring cups. “Woah, those are super pretty. You sure you wanna use them?”
“Of course I wanna use them, they’re made for it,” (First Name) told him, before showing him the rest of the stuff she’d bought. From cookie-cutters to baking pans, from a cutting board to a blender, the girl had bought everything she could carry. “They had a lot of really pretty things,so I couldn’t help but get a bunch..”
“The fact that you can use all of that stuff is amazing..” Hiro was genuinely amazed by how she still made his heart skip a beat with just a smile, but he loved it. “You’re awesome,(First Name)! You’ll definitely make a great chef!”
(First Name)’s face exploded into color at the praise, the girl shaking her head and looking down shyly. “It’s not that big of a deal..”
“Break it up,you two! Geez,no PDA!” Mirio scolded them, grinning. “If you wanna get together, though, the four of us could go on double-dates.”
“It’s not like that!” (First Name) and Hiro snapped in unison, before looking at each-other and laughing.
“Out of everyone, you should know better than that,Mirio. You say even worse things than that without batting an eye,” Hiro reminded him, chuckling.
“Yeah,I was just embarrassed that he complimented me about it. You always say my cooking is good and that you believe in me,but it’s not often that people besides you and Tamaki say it,so it’s just a nice feeling,” (First Name) told her friend with a pout.
“Alright,alright..” Mirio held his hands up in surrender and chuckled. “What do you guys wanna do,anyways? We can’t walk around much since (First Name) bought so much, but we can probably find something fun.”
“It’s fun just chilling here,” Hiro said, leaning into the back of the booth and grinning. “And the food here is awesome! Order anything you guys want,I’ll pay.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want you to spend your whole allowance on us..” Mirio was hesitant to actually eat anything from this kind of place.
“It’s fine! I’ve got a job,so I’ve got plenty of money to spend!” Hiro assured him happily, looking at Reo. “You don’t have to hold back either. Any friend of Mirio’s is a friend of mine.”
“Thank you..” Reo muttered, looking at the menu and wondering what she should get.
“They have a hazelnut chocolate milkshake..” (First Name) pointed out,her eyes sparkling as she looked at the picture.
“It’s for couples, but I’m sure they’d make a smaller size if you asked,” Hiro said as he looked through the menu.
“Hiro, you like hazelnut, right? We can just split one,” (First Name) suggested happily. “It says it comes with two straws,so it’s fine, right?”
“I’m not Mirio, you know? Drinking from the same beverage, eating off the same chopsticks, that kind of stuff just isn’t possible for normal people.” Hiro shook his head, amused by how naive (First Name)’s thought process was. “You and Mirio do that stuff because you’ve known each-other for so long, but normal people only do that with people they’re dating, remember?”
“Well ‘normal people’ are super weird.” (First Name) rolled her eyes, not understanding why the hell people had to make everything about romance. “I’ll just ask them to make a smaller one,then..”
“Can you try one and tell me how it tastes?” Mirio asked her,not wanting to get one for himself until he knew he’d be able to stomach it.
“We.. We can share one!” Reo told him,her cheeks burning. “It.. It’s a drink for couples,so.. So we..”
Mirio looked over at Reo,shrugging and nodding. “Sure. I was just gonna steal a drink from (First Name)’s to know whether I liked it or not before getting one myself, but if you also want one,we can just share.”
Reo’s face was burning the entire time she drank the milkshake, being careful to keep her own straw away from Mirio’s so they wouldn’t mix them up. “So.. So,um,Hiro, what do you do for work?”
“Oh,I work at a cafe like this, but it’s closer to my house,” Hiro told her, sipping his own milkshake and grinning. “But this place has better milkshakes.”
“You work at a cafe? I thought you hated cooking?” (First Name) asked, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him. “Did you fall in love with it or something?”
“The last sports festival we did, when we had a cafe as a class and you ended up being the only one in the kitchen,I thought it was super cool that you were able to handle so many customers,so I wanted to give cooking another try,” Hiro admitted, looking over at her. “I ended up thinking it was pretty cool to make things,so I applied for a job at a cafe and got the job. Now,I make all sorts of foods for customers.”
“That’s awesome,Hiro!” Mirio praised him, grinning. “I thought you’d be a totally useless husband for some unlucky lady one day,but I was definitely wrong.”
Hiro rolled his eyes and laughed. “You’re an idiot,Mirio. I’ve always been able to cook,I just didn’t like it before. Now,I actually find it fun.”
“I’m glad..” (First Name) looked at her milkshake,a smile on her face. “The kitchen is such a fun place.”
Hiro nodded, though he ended up leaving soon after finishing his drink and paying. After waving and promising to see them again soon,he left with a giant grin, happy he had seen them again.
A few days passed peacefully, before the peace was suddenly shattered early one morning when Mirio mentioned that (First Name) was coming over to his house.
“Why would she be coming over to your place?” Reo asked, clenching her fists as she tried to keep herself from snapping at him.
“What do you mean? She’s coming over to study.” Mirio rubbed the back of his neck, unsure as to why Reo looked so upset. “What’s wrong?”
“Why can’t you just study with her here? Or study with me?” Reo stared at the ground, unable to hold it back any longer. “I don’t like it when she goes to your house.. That’s not normal..”
Mirio frowned, shaking his head. “She’s always come over to my house to study,so how isn’t it normal?”
“I don’t like it! I’m your girlfriend,so if I don’t like something,you should listen,right?!” Reo snapped,raising her voice. “She’s a girl,she shouldn’t be at your house!”
“Reo,cut it out! Why’re you so pissed off all of a sudden?” Mirio sighed, trying to figure it out. “You’re acting like you’re jealous, and there’s no reason to be jealous..”
“Even if you say that,I still am! If I went over to a boy’s house, you’d be upset, wouldn’t you?!” Reo shouted, looking up at him angrily.
“What? Of course not. You’re allowed to go and do what you want with whoever you want,” Mirio told her, trying to figure out how best to word it. “I trust that you wouldn’t cheat on me,so why don’t you trust me?”
“I do trust you,but I don’t trust (First Name)! She’s definitely got a crush on you!” Reo sniffled, wiping at her eyes. “You’re a good person,so if she said that you had to do something with her or you couldn’t be friends anymore, you’d definitely do it to keep her around!”
Mirio shook his head, amazed that Reo could ever say stuff like this. “You don’t understand anything at all,do you? (First Name) and I aren’t like that, and we don’t ever have to be like that. Don’t try and twist our relationship into something it isn’t.” He stepped back, knowing he would end up shouting if he talked to her any longer. “We can talk about this later,I’m not doing this with you right now.”
“Mirio, don’t say that kind of stuff..” Reo grabbed his arm,her eyes widening when he jerked away from her. She knew that other students would be arriving soon,so she decided to just let him go for now. “Fine..”
Mirio stomped out of the room, needing to burn off some steam somehow. Making his way to the gym,he put all of his frustration into a few punches, beating the absolute shit out of a punching bag that was hanging there until he calmed down. After he felt better,he just walked back to class like nothing had happened.
“Hey,Tamaki, where’s Mirio?” (First Name) asked during lunch when she noticed the blond wasn’t there yet.
“Roof.. He’s mad..” Tamaki muttered, continuing to eat his food since he knew not to get too close to Mirio when he was angry.
“Just hear me out, okay?!” Reo asked Mirio, sighing when he nodded. “I just don’t understand why you have to do everything with (First Name),that’s it. She comes over to your house, you walk home together, you share food, all of that.. You do that stuff with a girlfriend, not a bestfriend,so of course I’m gonna be jealous.”
“But it’s not like that with me and (First Name),and you know it. Earlier, you talked like she was going to throw herself at me like some kind of slut,so of course I got pissed. She’s been my friend since we were kids,so you getting upset over us doing what we’ve always done is stupid,” Mirio growled, already fed up with this. “Listen,if you don’t like how me and (First Name) are,we can just break up. I’m not going to change my relationship with her just because you’re mad.”
“It’s not like that!” Reo snapped, clenching her fists. “Why don’t you care about how I feel at all?! You two can’t just stay in your own world and ignore everyone else! You’re being selfish!”
“How is hanging out with her selfish?!” Mirio glared at her,his temper flaring up.
“Neither of you will ever be able to get married if you keep this crap up! You’re too reliant on each-other! Anyone would be upset if someone they loved cared about a friend more than them!” Reo shouted, wiping at the angry tears that fell. “You’ll just end up hurting each-other!”
(First Name) listened from behind the door, wondering if Reo’s words were true or not; unfortunately, she knew they were. She knew her relationship with Mirio needed to change, but she didn’t want to separate from him out of nowhere.
“If we do,then we do! That’s us! I know it’s not normal to share chopsticks and drinks and straws with your friends,I know it’s not normal for her to spend the night at my house when my parents aren’t there to supervise,I know it’s not normal for her to wear my clothes and make my breakfast and pamper me,but I don’t care! This is our normal! I’m fine if you get upset,I’m fine if you hate it,but I’m not going to change it!” Mirio snapped, clenching his fists. “(First Name) was the first person to ever make me feel like a hero. If you can’t respect that, then we’re over.”
(First Name) clenched her fists, her cheeks heating up as she listened to Mirio’s words; if Mirio also hated how people tried to force things onto them, then she wasn’t alone in this feeling at all. Taking a deep breath and calming herself down, she flung the door open. “Mirio! What’s up,why wer- Oh,were you guys talking..? Tamaki said you came up here, but I didn’t know why.”
“No,we were just finishing up,” Mirio told her, turning his back on Reo and walking over to (First Name). “What, you didn’t wanna eat without me or something?”
“Of course not. Lunch isn’t the same if you’re not there,” (First Name) beamed at him, knowing exactly how to calm him down. “I brought a couple extra takoyaki for you and Tamaki,so I hope you’re hungry!”
“You’re the best,(First Name)..” Mirio chuckled, walking to lunch with her as if nothing had ever happened between him and Reo. No matter what,he had already resolved never to change his relationship with (First Name) just to make some girl happy,so he didn’t care who got hurt by trying to force them into roles they didn’t want.
And so,Mirio’s first relationship was over because Reo wasn’t able to understand the relationship between the two and hadn’t been able to ignore the feeling of absolute love and trust between them.
Did you know I can still taste our first kiss? The warmth of your breath, the cool of your lips
The softness of your fingertips on the back of my neck
Mirio’s second year at UA marked a new step on his path to becoming a hero. After a rather horrible showing in the sports festival,he had been convinced he wouldn’t get an internship offer from an agency,so when Sir Nighteye reached out,he accepted it immediately.
“Are you sure I should be coming with you?” (First Name) asked him anxiously as she followed him off the train.
“I already called and asked him if he’d be willing to meet you,and he said he was fine with you coming along as long as you tell him a good joke,” Mirio told her as he walked happily. “He’ll absolutely love you!”
“But I’m not even a hero-in-training..” (First Name) muttered, wondering why he would even want to meet her. “Why would he even want to meet me?”
“He said it’s ‘cause he wants to know the type of people I hang out around. I already told you, didn’t I? He loves the same kinds of jokes I do,so just tell him something random.” Mirio soon stopped in front of the building, opening the door and holding it open for (First Name) with a smile.
(First Name) walked in nervously, her mind going completely blank when she tried to remember a corny joke. “I can’t do this after all..”
Mirio rolled his eyes and grabbed her arm, dragging her onto the elevator and pressing the button. Once they reached the right floor,he dragged her to Nighteye’s office and knocked. “We’re here,Sir!”
“Come in,” Mirai ordered, leaning into his palm and watching the door with a sharp glare; he had heard Mirio rambling about this (First Name) girl for hours on end,and now he wanted to see if it was true.
“Come on,(First Name),stop looking like you’re gonna pass out..” Mirio urged, pushing the door open and pulling (First Name) in.
(First Name) wanted to hide behind Mirio when she saw Mirai’s glare, but she straightened her back without thinking and gave him a bright smile, her body going completely on autopilot. “Air.. Airplane food, amirgiht?!” She shouted, her face going bright red when she realized what she’d just said. She wanted to die.
“No,no,that’s not the joke.. The joke is ‘what made the sky sick?’ and then you say ‘airplane food’..” Mirio scolded her.
Mirai stared at the girl in shock, unable to stop himself from laughing when he saw how terrified and embarrassed she looked. He covered his mouth as he tried to stop the laughter, unable to do so for a while. “You.. How long did it take you to.. To get her to say that?” He asked Mirio, still chuckling a little.
“It took hours since she kept complaining about how it wouldn’t make you laugh,” Mirio admitted with a grin, knowing his tutor had accepted (First Name). “She’s hilarious, right?”
Mirai chuckled, the idea of Mirio arguing with this girl about whether or not such a horrible joke would make him laugh being funnier than the joke itself. “You definitely tortured her, then.”
“It was super unfair,” (First Name) muttered, her cheeks still burning with embarrassment. “He made me learn a bunch of those stupid jokes!”
“Mirio said you’re working under Lunch Rush, correct? Is he as good as they say?” Mirai asked curiously, leaning into his palm with a slight smile.
“Yeah! Mr.Rush has taught me a lot,and he lets me cook for the students with sensitive stomachs!” (First Name) told him, smiling brightly. “The food he makes is super tasty, and he makes sure everyone has something to eat!”
“We have a kitchen here. Would you mind cooking something? I want to see what a student of Lunch Rush can create.” Mirai was just curious about her Quirk, which she used often without thinking according to Mirio, but he could also go for some food.
“Yes sir! Is there anything in particular you’d like?” (First Name)’s eyes sparkled at the idea of cooking for the man.
“Ramen. Mirio said you make ramen better than even a professional,so I’m curious,” Mirai told her with a smirk.
“Yes sir!” (First Name) looked at Mirio. “Lead the way to the kitchen.”
“Alright,alright..” Mirio held his hands up in surrender and chuckled, leading the way to the kitchen.
Mirai was amazed by (First Name)’s movements in the kitchen. While he had been struggling to teach Mirio how to read movements,it was obvious that Lunch Rush had taught this girl how to read food. She chopped the vegetables while holding the knife like an expert, and she cleaned while she was cooking,so the kitchen was spotless when she served them. “She wasn’t using her Quirk there, was she?” He asked Mirio curiously.
“Nope. She used to use her Quirk constantly when she cooked, but I guess Lunch Rush made her stop,” Mirio told him, grinning as he ate some of his ramen. “It’s the best like always,(First Name)!”
Mirai was convinced Mirio was just being nice to his friend, but when he tried the ramen,he was amazed at the flavor. “You’re certainly made for the kitchen,(First Name). I’m impressed.”
“Thank you,Sir!” (First Name) smiled brightly, happy she had impressed him. “Please keep taking care of Mirio!”
“Of course.” Mirai smiled, glad his apprentice had such a caring friend by his side. He promised himself that he would make sure Mirio was always able to make it home to this girl, wanting to see the world the future hero and chef would make. “You’re welcome to come here any time.”
And so,on Sundays when Mirio would head to the Nighteye Agency,(First Name) tagged along eagerly. Each and every Sunday, she cooked a different meal for them, happy to do anything she could to make them happy.
Time passed quickly, and summer break came, marking the end of their second year at UA. After a particularly bad fight with her parents,(First Name) found herself at Mirio’s door, the girl sniffling and latching onto him when he opened the door.
“(First Name)..? What’s wrong?” Mirio asked as he hugged back, just picking her up and kicking the door shut before heading up the stairs and to his room.
“I don’t wanna talk about it..” (First Name) muttered, keeping her face buried in his chest. “I’m sleeping over tonight,’kay?”
“Alright..” Mirio rubbed her back, managing to open his door and get into his room before shutting it with his foot. “What do you wanna do?”
“Snuggle..” (First Name)’s grip on him tightened as she breathed in his familiar and comforting scent, wanting to just forget what her father had said.
Mirio nodded, laying down with her still wrapped in his arms. “Cry if you need to.”
(First Name) shook her head and kept her face hidden, slowly calming down after a while. “Hey,Mirio, what are you gonna do after highschool..?”
“I’ll probably work with Sir for a while and go to college.. Why?” Mirio looked down at her, feeling a little anxious when he saw her face. “What happened,(First Name)?”
“My parents want to move to America..” (First Name) admitted, her eyes filling with tears again. “I don’t wanna leave..”
Mirio felt his heart sink, the boy sitting up and looking down at her. “You have to be kidding, right?”
“Why would I joke about something like that?” (First Name) sat up as well, wiping at her eyes. “I told them I didn’t want to move, but they said that I don’t know what I want..”
“They’re seriously gonna make you leave?” Mirio clenched his fists when she nodded, hating the idea of (First Name) suddenly going somewhere he couldn’t reach her. “We’ll just think of something,then.. You could.. You could move in with me,right? They can go to America, and you can live here.”
“You know they wouldn’t let me do that, they hate when I even sleep over here for a single night now..” (First Name) struggled to come up with an idea, before noticing that his fingernails had cut into his skin because his grip was too tight. Putting her own hand over his,she realized that she couldn’t survive a day without him. “You’re hurting yourself,so loosen your grip..”
Mirio looked down, unclenching his fist and letting out a sigh. “I just..”
(First Name) slid off his bed and went into his bathroom, grabbing his first aid kit and returning to his side. After disinfecting the little cuts and wrapping his hand slightly, she put the kit back and threw the wrappers away.
Mirio watched her, before saying the only thing he could think of right now. “Why don’t we just leave, then? We could run away together until we’re eighteen.”
“Running away? Seriously? They’d just call the cops and we’d get tracked down immediately..” (First Name) shook her head and sighed. “And you can’t be a hero if you have criminal charges.”
“To hell with being a hero!” Mirio snapped, grabbing her face and leaning in close so their noses were brushing against each-other. “I don’t care about being a hero if it means we can’t be together..”
(First Name) stared at him with wide eyes, unsure of what to say to that. “Mirio, you do-”
“I know what I’m saying, and I know how serious it is,but I don’t care. If running away means we could be together,I’d run to the ends of the earth,” Mirio told her, pulling back slightly and kissing her forehead. “I don’t want to be away from you. I don’t wanna have to get on a plane to come see you,or stay up all night just to talk to you.. I don’t want any of that.. Seeing you at school, studying with you,all of that, all of us,I don’t want any of it to change.. I wanna see your messy hair when you wake up,and I wanna see you wearing my hoodies, and I wanna.. I wanna stay with you forever, not be separated like that..”
(First Name)’s eyes filled with tears, her grip on his shirt tightening. “I don’t wanna lose any of that either! I wanna keep having sleepovers with you and eating breakfast together and snuggling and holding hands and.. And being like this..”
Mirio hugged her tightly once again, scared of what the future might bring. Burying his face in her hair,he held her close, trying to think of what he could possibly do to keep her close; it needed to be something that nobody could argue with, something serious enough that nobody could question.. “Hey,(First Name),what if we get engaged?”
“What..?” (First Name) asked, looking at him in shock. “What the fuck?”
“Hear me out, okay? If we said we wanted to get married, your parents would know we’re serious about staying together, right? We don’t even have to actually get married,” Mirio explained, though even he knew it was a ridiculous idea. “I just.. I thought that maybe if we gave them such an important reason not to leave, they’d let you stay.. If I said I’d be responsible for you, they’d have to respect it at least a little, right?”
“We’re not even dating..” (First Name) pointed out,her cheeks red. “And getting engaged is serious..”
“Well everyone says we act like a married couple anyways, right? We do everything together,so what would being a couple change?” Mirio asked, rubbing the back of his neck. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while now, actually, about whether or not we like each-other like that, and I wasn’t really sure,so I asked some people about it,and they all said that if you can’t imagine someone else next to their side, you’re definitely in love with them..”
“But we can’t just skip out on dating and all of that!” (First Name)’s cheeks darkened further. “Getting engaged out of nowhere is just..”
“It’s scary for me,too, you know?” Mirio asked, his cheeks a little pink. “But if it’s you by my side,I don’t feel as scared anymore, you know? I’ve never imagined a future without you.”
(First Name) chewed on her lip anxiously, before looking up at him with red cheeks. “Fine, but we don’t do anything dirty, got it? If we’re gonna do something this crazy,I’m at least drawing the line at no dirty stuff..”
“I wouldn’t even dream of that kind of stuff! We can just be like usual, just with rings and stuff, you know?” Mirio’s own cheeks burned, before he realized there was a big issue with this plan. “I’ll need to go out and buy rings, then, right? Do we have to do the whole proposing thing? Fuck,I’ll have to talk to your parents about this..”
“Just.. Just skip the proposing thing! We’re just gonna be like usual!” (First Name) muttered, her cheeks burning. “My dad’s gonna kill us..”
“So is my mom..” Mirio whined, the usually confident boy feeling rather flustered now. “So.. You can say no,of course, but can.. Can we.. you know, can we kiss?”
(First Name) nodded, her cheeks burning with embarrassment as she looked at him. “Only.. Only a quick one, though!”
Mirio nodded and leaned in slightly, giving her a soft and gentle kiss before pulling away with bright red cheeks. “Was.. Was that too much or anything?”
“It.. It was fine..” (First Name) muttered, her cheeks burning as she pulled away from him. Needing to hide, she draped his blanket over her head and pulled it tightly around herself. “That.. That was my first kiss,so be happy..”
Mirio’s embarrassment turned into happiness, glad he was the one to steal her first kiss. “Well I hope I’m the only one you ever kiss,then..” He admitted, sitting with his back to his wall. “Let’s go and buy rings tomorrow, okay? We’ll talk to your parents afterwards.”
“What about your parents? What if they absolutely hate it?” (First Name) asked, peeking out from the blanket. “I don’t want them to hate me..”
“We can talk to them when they get off of work tonight,” Mirio told her, taking a deep breath to calm himself down. “Take a nap until then.”
(First Name) nodded slightly, and got comfortable, though she wasn’t able to fall asleep for a while because she couldn’t calm herself down. Eventually, though, she shut her eyes and dozed off.
Mirio waited until she was asleep and then slid off the bed, turning his light off and heading downstairs quietly to wait for his parents. He knew this was a serious decision, but he knew this was what he wanted,so he wouldn’t hold back.
“Mirio,if you ever fall in love, you’ve gotta chase after them with all you’ve got, okay?” His father,Maichi, had told him one day while tucking him into bed. “No matter who they are,as long as they love you,I’ll support you.”
“Why would I have to chase them?” Mirio had asked him, tilting his head to the side.
“Sometimes, there are things that will try and keep you away from the people you love. If that happens, just call on your old dad here, and I’ll help you blow them away!” Maichi beamed at him. “Never let go of the person you love!”
Mirio watched t.v. until he heard the door open, standing up and walking over to the entryway and seeing his parents. “I need to talk to you guys.”
Maichi slid his shoes off, knowing his son wanted to talk about something serious; his little Mirio only ever furrowed his brow like that when he had spent the day thinking of something. “Is this a tea or coffee kind of talk?”
“Coffee.” Mirio stepped out of the way so they could get to the kitchen. “It’s important.”
Aiko started a pot of coffee and then joined her husband and son at the kitchen table, looking at him. “What’s wrong?”
“I asked (First Name) to marry me,” Mirio told them, holding his finger up to stop them from interrupting him. “I know it probably sounds impulsive, and that you guys don’t agree with it,but I don’t plan on marrying her for a really long time. Her parents were going to force her to move to America, and we talked about it and decided that getting engaged would show we’re serious about staying with each-other.”
Maichi took a deep breath, squeezing his wife’s hand. “Is she here?”
“She’s asleep upstairs,” Mirio admitted, looking down. “Do you want me to make her leave or something?”
“Go wake her up. I want to talk to both of you since this is about both of you,” Maichi told him, giving him a soft smile. “I’d never kick her out.”
Mirio did as told, soon returning with (First Name). Sitting down at the table once again,he looked at his parents, squeezing (First Name)’s hand under the table. “Say anything you need.”
“Are both of you sure about this?” Maichi asked, though he could tell they were both terrified. “Think about it carefully before you answer, and tell me about what both of you want, not what we’d want.”
(First Name) stared down at her lap, before raising her head when she finally mustered up the courage to say what she wanted. “I love Mirio, and skipping over dating and going straight to being engaged is scary and kinda weird, but I want to stay with him forever. I don’t want to be dragged to America.”
Mirio squeezed (First Name)’s hand and nodded. “I feel the same way she does.. I wouldn’t be able to survive a day without her..”
Maichi smiled, glad his son finally understood where his ‘special person’ was. “Since it’s what you both want,I’ll give you my support. Take the next three or four years to get used to dating each-other,though,alright?”
“I honestly thought you guys were going to keep running around in circles forever, but I like this way more,” Aiko admitted, giving them a bright smile. “(First Name)’s been part of our family for years, anyways!”
(First Name)’s grip on Mirio’s hand loosened as she realized she didn’t need to be so anxious, the girl wiping at her eyes. “Thank you..” She muttered, sniffling slightly. “I thought the only one who would agree with it would be Tamaki..”
“We’re not selfish enough to disregard what you two want. You kids these days are given so many responsibilities, from choosing a college to fighting villains,so why wouldn’t we trust you guys to know your own hearts?” Maichi beamed at her. “And I know Mirio would probably just run away with you if we didn’t agree, anyways.”
“If (First Name) hadn’t been so against it,I definitely would’ve taken her somewhere beautiful..” Mirio muttered childishly, before giving his parents a giant grin. “She’s still the best, you know?”
Aiko laughed and shook her head, just happy that her son was able to be so happy. This was a home that would always be open to the young couple in front of her,as it belonged to them just as much as it belonged to her and her own husband.
The next day, after they had bought a set of rings,(First Name) found herself at her front door with Mirio by her side, the girl hesitant to knock. “What if they say no..?” She asked Mirio anxiously.
“I’ll convince them to say yes,” Mirio told her, squeezing her hand comfortingly before knocking on the door. When (First Name)’s father answered,he smiled at him. “We need to talk to you, sir.”
“Talk..?” (Father’s Name) looked down to see their intertwined hands, biting his tongue to keep himself from shouting at them. “Come in..” He stepped out of the way, holding the door open.
Mirio walked in,looking around for (First Name)’s mother immediately and spotting her folding the laundry. “Can we talk to you guys?”
(Mother’s Name) looked over, sighing when she saw that they were holding hands. “Say your piece.”
Mirio sucked in a deep breath and bowed, squeezing his eyes shut as he forced the words out. “Please give us your blessings to get engaged!”
(First Name) lowered her head as well, gripping Mirio’s hand tightly. “Please don’t make me leave him!”
(Mother’s Name) bit her lip at the sight, letting out a sigh. “You want to get engaged just because we were going to move to America?”
“It’s not ‘just because’ of anything! Even if it sounds ridiculous,I know I wouldn’t be able to live a single day without Mirio! I love him,so I don’t want to be away from him!” (First Name) kept her head down, doing her best to get her feelings across. “Mirio is the person I love most.. No matter what happens in the future,if he’s with me,I know I don’t have to be afraid.”
“Part of me really wants to say no,but you two wouldn’t accept that, would you?” (Mother’s Name) asked, shaking her head when they told her they wouldn’t. “Fine, you two can get engaged, but I don’t want to hear anything from Aiko about you two being inappropriate, got it?”
“You’re just gonna let them get off with just that?!” (Father’s Name) shouted, angry that she would just hand their daughter off like that. “They’re just kids!”
“We were thirteen back when you asked me out,and fourteen back when you tried to ‘take responsibility’ for me,” (Mother’s Name) reminded him.
“And your father beat the shit out of me for saying that stuff so carelessly! They clearly don’t understand how important of a topic marriage is!” (Father’s Name) chided.
“Mirio’s the one who saved (First Name) back then, remember? He understands how to make our daughter happy better than we do. If we force her to come to America with us right now,we’ll be breaking her heart,” (Mother’s Name) told him, though she didn’t entirely agree with her daughter getting engaged either. “Aiko called me last night and talked to me about it,and she said that (First Name) can have the spare room at their house. She promised to take care of her and make sure they don’t do anything stupid,so we don’t need to be so worried.”
(Father’s Name) looked at them, seeing the look on his daughter’s face, and just sighed. “Mirio,I’ll beat the shit out of you if you hurt her,so you’d better take good care of her,got it?”
“I could never imagine hurting her, sir,” Mirio told him, finally raising his head and smiling. “I’ll protect her with my life!”
Telling Tamaki was easy,as the boy had been expecting this for years, but Sir Nighteye seemed stressed.
“What do you mean you two are engaged?” Mirai asked, repeating the question for the hundredth time.
“It’s exactly what it sounds like,Sir. We’re gonna get married one day,” Mirio repeated with a grin. “(First Name)’ll be my wife one day!”
“You completely skipped dating..” Mirai pinched the bridge of his nose, before letting out a chuckle. “I don’t even know why I’m so surprised, this is exactly the sort of thing I should have expected from you two..”
“Well we didn’t even really expect it either..” (First Name) muttered, rubbing the back of her neck and giggling. “But it’ll be fun!”
Mirai looked between them and laughed, shaking his head. “You two really are made for each-other..” He chuckled, before raising his glass as a toast. “To a happy future.”
“To a happy future!” (First Name) clinked her own glass against his and grinned.
“To a happy future where we’re all together!” Mirio clinked his glass against theirs and grinned.
And darling,I still hear the words, “To have and to hold, until we grow old”
Choking back tears of joy, tears of joy
(First Name) stepped off the train, turning and grinning at Mirio. “What do you think Sir wants for lunch today?”
“I’ve got no clue.. He’s been skipping out on eating,though..” Mirio stepped off the train as well, chuckling. “But,he’ll definitely eat if you make him something.”
“What would you wanna eat,Deku?” (First Name) asked, looking at the boy curiously.
“Ah,me? Uh,I’m not hungry..” Izuku panicked when he saw her pout, unsure of what to say to cheer her up. “I’ll eat, though! If you make something,I’ll eat it!”
“You don’t have to force yourself, you know? Sir and Centipeder and Bubble Girl will definitely eat!” (First Name) huffed, pretending to be upset.
“(First Name),don’t tease him too much, alright? You’re gonna make him cry,” Mirio told her, ruffling her hair and grinning. “He’s not used to you,so he can’t tell when you’re kidding.”
“She was joking..?” Izuku asked, groaning when Mirio nodded. “That was mean..”
“I could’ve said something way meaner!” (First Name) led the way to the Nighteye Agency happily, smiling brightly as she walked. “If Sir accepts Deku,we’ll have a new member to the team!”
“Um,I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but why do you hang out at a hero agency if you don’t wanna be a hero..?” Izuku asked curiously, not knowing much about the girl at all; when he had met Mirio to go to the train station, the girl had popped up and demanded to come with them. “You’re not in the hero course, right?”
“I can’t hang out with Sir and the others if I don’t want to be a hero?” (First Name) raised an eyebrow as she looked over at Izuku. “Hasn’t Mirio told you anything?”
“I wanted it to be a surprise!” Mirio told her, grinning. “And I thought Deku would pass out if I told him something like that, anyways.”
“Like what..? What am I missing out on?” Izuku asked, confused as to what the hell they were talking about.
“Me and Mirio are engaged,so when he goes to work with Sir on Sundays,I tag along to help out. I’ve got a provisional license,of course,so it’s perfectly legal!” (First Name) beamed at him, unfazed by how dumbfounded he looked.
“Wait,wait.. You’re engaged,Senpai?” Izuku looked at the blond, shocked when he nodded. “But.. But why does she even have a provisional license if she’s not in the hero course? Is she gonna be your sidekick? Does UA even know about it?”
“She had to get one because she uses her Quirk pretty often without even thinking about it,so she would’ve gotten into a lot of legal trouble without it,and she’s not gonna be my sidekick. (First Name) works with Lunch Rush to make everyone’s lunch, and she’s responsible for cooking for people with sensitive stomachs. She just tags along because everyone at the agency likes her,and the people who need to know about our relationship are aware,” Mirio explained, walking calmly; he had expected this sort of reaction. “It’s not that big of a deal, you know?”
Izuku’s mind was still racing with questions, and he asked them without restraint. “But.. But isn’t it against school rules? Can’t you get kicked out for it? And doesn’t she get in trouble for skipping school to come here?”
“Well the school itself doesn’t really care about the rules anyways,so it’s nothing to worry about, and I won’t get kicked out. And as for her getting in trouble for skipping out on classes, she actually gets a pass since Lunch Rush signs off on it being an ‘educational workplace experience’,so it’s fine,” Mirio explained with a grin, amused by how bewildered Izuku was. “We’re not doing anything illegal.”
“I just.. I never expected that sort of thing..” Izuku admitted, wondering what had led them to get engaged at such a young age.
(First Name) threw the door to the agency open when they got there, looking around inside eagerly. Upon spotting Juzo, her eyes lit up. “Centipeder!” She called out, running over and launching herself at him childishly.
Juzo caught the girl, staying upright calmly. “(Last Name),I have told you not to do that a hundred times by now. You could hurt yourself.”
“But you always catch me,so I don’t need to worry, right?” (First Name) grinned up at him. “Where’re Sir and Bubble Girl at?”
“In his office. Please remember not to pester him too much,he has not been sleeping well as of late,” Juzo sighed, stepping away from the girl calmly. Upon seeing her pouting over it,he sighed and patted her head. “I do not enjoy hugs, but a head pat will do,right?”
“Thanks!” (First Name) chirped, happy that he was even willing to do that much. Remembering why she’d even come in the first place, she turned to Mirio and Izuku. “I bet he’s torturing her again!”
“I’m not gonna take a losing bet,” Mirio led the way to the elevator calmly. “Which machine do you think he’s using this time?”
“The one that gets her sides! She hates it!” (First Name) followed him onto the elevator, noticing how scared Izuku looked at their words. “Don’t look so scared,Deku! Sir won’t use anything on you unless you screw up and make him super angry!”
“What.. What kind of torture..?” Izuku asked anxiously, chewing on his bottom lip.
“You’ll see!” (First Name) chirped happily, jumping off the elevator once they reached the right floor. Stopping in front of Mirai’s office, she looked back at Izuku. “You should go in first!”
“Right..” Izuku opened the door, freaking out when he saw a woman being tickled by some sort of machine. “What the hell is this place?!”
Mirai looked to the door, glaring darkly when he saw the green-haired boy that had been chosen over Mirio; he’d never accept this kid as being a better fit than Mirio.
“Sir,I’m gonna make lunch now,so do you have anything in particular you want?” (First Name) asked, peering into the room calmly.
“Make what you’d like,” Mirai turned the machine off calmly, his expression as unreadable as it was in public.
“Alright!” (First Name) chirped, pushing Izuku further into the room and leaving with a grin.
It was only an hour later, after Mirai had accepted Izuku as an intern despite the boy failing his challenge, that (First Name) served everyone with a bright smile. “I made plenty for everyone,so eat up!”
“You can make something like this..?” Izuku asked as he stared into the bowl at the food she had clearly made with care.
“I said that she works with Lunch Rush, right? He wouldn’t accept a sloppy student,” Mirio told him, smug that his fiancée was so amazing. “She’s always been good at cooking.”
Izuku nodded and took a bite, his eyes lighting up at the taste. “This is amazing!”
(First Name) grinned, glad he liked it. “Eat as much as you’d like,” She said, looking over to make sure Mirai was eating as well. “How is it,Sir?”
Mirai just nodded, not wanting to speak much in Izuku’s presence since the boy was a bit of an eyesore for him. Knowing (First Name) would just ask him again if he didn’t speak,he let out a sigh and forced himself to speak. “It’s delicious.”
“I’m glad! Mirio said you’ve been skipping out on your meals and obsessing over something, but you have to eat plenty and keep your energy up if you’re gonna be working,so take care of yourself, alright?” (First Name) scolded him, before just leaning against the counter and smiling at him. “If you end up passing out and getting yourself hurt during a fight, you’ll scare all of us,you know?”
Mirai looked at her for a moment and then nodded, finding it amusing that someone so young would scold him for overworking himself; Mirio would definitely need (First Name) to keep him in check in the future like this, but he had never known that the scolding would extend to himself. “I’ll be careful, then.”
“Good!” (First Name) grinned, happy that everyone in the agency was able to take the time to eat a meal together like this. When Juzo asked for another serving, she piled food onto his plate and then slid it over to him. “I used a lot more food than usual,so I’m gonna run to the store. Do you guys have anything you want in particular?”
“Chips,” Kaoruko muttered, taking another bite of her food. “Those spicy ones you got last time..”
“What about you,Centipeder?” (First Name) looked to the man for his answer, excited to get out and stretch her legs.
“I would like some more tea leaves,if you would indulge me so,” Juzo admitted, though he didn’t want to burden the girl.
“Pocky! I want pocky!” Mirio ate another bite of his food happily. “The good stuff!”
“Alright, alright,I’ll get you some pocky..” (First Name) shook her head, amused by how childish he could be sometimes. “What about you,Sir? Deku?”
“Get me the usual,” Mirai ordered, not looking up from his food this time.
“I.. I’m fine without anything..” Izuku muttered nervously, not wanting to risk annoying anyone.
“I’ll buy you something random if you don’t say what you want,” (First Name) warned him calmly. “It’ll be super nasty.”
“Ge.. Get me a melonpan then,please..” Izuku wanted to squirm and retreat under the girl’s gaze, finding her intimidating.
“I’ll be back soon, then!” (First Name) ran out of the kitchen, excited to get out and walk around town again; whenever she walked with Mirio,he always stayed far away from all of the bakeries since he knew she’d want to try their snacks,so this would be the first time in a while she was able to actually go out on her own and explore this area.
“Stay safe!” Mirio called out, looking over to see her waiting by the elevator. “Don’t buy more than you can carry, either.”
(First Name) rolled her eyes playfully and waved his words off, getting on the elevator happily once the doors opened.
The streets were as busy as they always were, the girl passing by people happily on her way to the nearby grocery store. She waved at a few people she had spoken to before, but she didn’t stop to talk to anyone since she didn’t really feel like it.
Hekiji stopped when someone bumped into him, looking down to watch as his bag of nikuman hit the ground since he’d dropped it. “Sorry.”
“Ah,no,I’m sorry.. Are you alright, sir?” (First Name) asked, feeling bad she had made him drop his food. “Is the stall you bought them at nearby? I can buy you another one..”
“It’s fine,” Hekiji assured her, before noticing that Kendo was glaring at the girl. Since they had come out only to get the nikuman Kendo had been complaining about for weeks, and they weren’t wearing their masks,he knew they needed to avoid causing problems. “Rappa,we still have plenty of money. We can just buy more.”
Kendo looked between Hekiji and the girl, before realizing that attacking her would just result in needless bloodshed and trouble. “I want even more..” Was all he muttered, turning to look at the stall again.
(First Name) walked over to the stall and bought a bunch of the nikuman, holding them out to the duo afterwards. “It’s my fault for knocking them out of your hand! I know how annoying it is when someone messes up your favorite food,so I’m super sorry!”
Kendo relaxed at that, taking the bag and biting into one of the nikuman; sparing her had been the right choice after all. “Thanks.”
“Have a pleasant day,” Hekiji told the girl, before looking to Kendo. “Rappa,we should get back.”
“Have a nice day!” (First Name) replied, heading towards the grocery store happily since the problem had been resolved.
When (First Name) had later explained the encounter to Mirio, she was surprised when the boy lectured her about how important it was to avoid people who seemed shady, and even more surprised when he told her those guys were villains that Sir Nighteye had warned him about.
The following night,(First Name) listened as Mirio explained what had happened on the first day of Izuku’s internship with their mentor. After the boy had told her he needed to talk, they had decided to sit outside together.
“I.. The little girl we saw,she was so scared,but..” The blond stared at his hands, clenching and unclenching his fists. “I felt like shit having to prioritize the mission over saving her.. She was terrified..”
“So some villain named Overhaul is her father?” (First Name) asked, looking over at him curiously. “And Sir said to avoid confrontation with him?”
“Yeah,but.. But she was just a kid,and she..” Mirio shook his head, unable to get the image of the scared child out of his mind. “We should’ve taken her with us no matter what..”
“But you didn’t know his intentions, right? If Sir said to avoid confrontation with him,and they’ve been observing him, then I’m sure he has a plan to save her and capture that guy.” (First Name) grabbed his hand and squeezed it. “It’s okay to be unsure, and it’s okay to have regrets, but I think you did the right thing. If you had started a fight with him,you and Deku could have gotten hurt,or he could have hurt the girl or destroyed the buildings near you.. It could have been a really nasty fight, but letting him take the girl could have saved hundreds of lives, and you can save her when things are ready, right?”
Mirio looked over at (First Name),before just sighing and laying his head in her lap. “Deku didn’t realize that he released bloodlust, and that she ran to him because of it.. She’s a really brave kid,but she’s still scared..”
“But,you know what I think?” (First Name) asked, looking down and smiling when he shook his head. “I think that,if that Overhaul guy really is her father, she’s never met someone as kind as you and Deku.. Someone kind and brave like her was definitely able to tell you guys were gonna come save her soon!”
Mirio nodded and sat up,knowing he couldn’t just sulk forever. “When Sir says it’s time to save her,I’ll definitely be her hero.. Thanks,(First Name).”
(First Name) grinned, happy he had cheered up a little. “Of course.”
Time continued far too slowly for Mirio’s liking, and it was a week later when he knocked on the window of (First Name)’s dorm room at midnight. When she didn’t wake up,he knocked a little harder, wanting to tell her the good news as soon as possible.
“Hm..?” (First Name) groaned and rolled over tiredly when she heard the knocking, thinking she was just dreaming it. When the knocking only continued, she finally opened her eyes and sat up,looking around sleepily. Upon seeing Mirio standing on her balcony, she sighed and unlocked the door, sliding it open. “What the hell,Mirio..?”
“We get to save Eri in the morning,” Mirio told her, grinning. “They found out where she’s being kept and just sent out the news.”
(First Name) woke up fully at that, the girl looking up at him. “Seriously? That’s great!”
“We’ll have to set out really early,so do you mind waking up and making some food for us later?” Mirio asked, just wanting to spend some time with her tonight. “It’d be nice to eat your pancakes before a big fight.”
(First Name) nodded, sitting down on the edge of her bed and looking down; she had been hearing a lot recently about how scary Overhaul’s Quirk was,so the idea of Mirio fighting someone that dangerous made her a little anxious. “You’ll come back, right?”
“Of course. I can’t leave my wife waiting for me,right?” Mirio beamed at her, though his smile faded when she didn’t cheer up. Wanting to make her feel better,he sat down beside her and grabbed her hand, lacing their fingers as he leaned his back against the wall. “You’re gonna worry no matter what I say, right?” A nod. “You trust that I’ll always come home, right?”
“That’s an unfair question..” (First Name) muttered, unable to look at him. “You’re strong and brave, but I’ll always be worried when you go out for a fight..”
Mirio rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb, unsure of how to reassure her and quell her fears. “I’m sorry for being so selfish and making you worry, but I promise I’ll always come home, okay? I’ve never broken a promise, right?”
“I’m the selfish one..” (First Name) muttered, leaning her head on his shoulder and just staring at the wall across from her bed; pictures of the time they had spent together hung carefully from star-shaped stringlights she had hung up to make this place feel a little more like home. “You should try and get some sleep, you know?”
“I couldn’t sleep right now even if I tried,” Mirio told her, leaning his own head against hers. “Here in a few days, after everything is settled, why don’t we go on a date? It’s been a while since we’ve gone anywhere.”
“Just the two of us?” (First Name) asked hopefully, looking up at him.
“Of course,” Mirio chuckled, glad she was thinking the same thing he was. “Let’s go out to an amusement park and eat all kinds of foods and have fun all day.”
“I’d like that..” (First Name) admitted, starting to doze off.
Mirio looked over when he realized she had fallen asleep, smiling at the sight of her peaceful and relaxed expression. He would definitely save Eri and come home so they could go out on a date.
When Mirio shook her awake at three in the morning,(First Name) sighed and then remembered a fatal error in their plan. “How are we going to get to the kitchen without waking everyone up?”
“Through the window,” Mirio told her, walking over to the balcony and chuckling. “You said your teacher is a really light sleeper,so you can’t cook here, but I know that my teacher will have no clue,so we’ll just jump down from here and go there to cook.”
“This is the third floor, you idiot!” (First Name) whisper-yelled,shaking her head. “There’s no way in hell I’m jumping from here!”
“Then I’ll get Tamaki to grab us with a tentacle or something..” Mirio couldn’t think of any other plan. “Oh,that floaty girl’s Quirk! If I text Deku and tell him to send her to help,we should be fine!”
“Floaty..? Are you talking about Uraraka?” (First Name) asked, thinking it wouldn’t be a bad plan. “Go ahead and see if she’ll come help,then.. And tell Deku to get the rest of the kids coming with you guys,I wanna make sure everyone eats before they go.”
“Got it!” Mirio grinned, calling Izuku and explaining everything.
Fifteen minutes later, after Ochaco had floated them safely down to the ground and (First Name) had gotten to Mirio’s dorm building, she set to work making everyone pancakes.
“Are you guys sure we should be doing this?” Izuku asked nervously as he watched her cook.
“This isn’t the first time Mirio has complained about wanting food at odd hours of the night. If the teachers complain,I’ll just tell them I needed to cook to relieve some stress or something,” (First Name) told him calmly, adding some chocolate chips. “Oh,Tamaki, you want me to make you the normal stuff?”
“Clam and takoyaki..” Tamaki muttered, covering his mouth as he yawned. “Anything helpful..”
“Got it,” (First Name) told him, before looking over at the first-years Izuku had brought. “Do any of you guys have food sensitivities or food-related Quirks? Or even some kind of special request?”
“Mine makes me nauseous..” Ochaco informed her, amazed by how calm the girl seemed.
“I want meat!” Eijiro told her, keeping his voice down so he wouldn’t wake anyone up.
“I like jelly,” Tsuyu admitted, curious about exactly who this girl was and why she was cooking for all of them.
(First Name) nodded, boiling a few eggs and frying some pork cutlets and then flipping the chocolate-chip pancakes she was making for Ochaco,Nejire, and Mirio. Setting a pot of water on the stove and beginning to boil it,she added a few pickled plums. “Have you ever drank any umeboshi tea before?” She asked Ochaco curiously.
“No,why?” Ochaco tilted her head to the side slightly.
“It reduces nausea, and it’s good for sore throats,so you might wanna get into the habit of drinking it,” (First Name) informed her, breaking the pickled plums up and stirring the water a little. “It might be a bit sour,though..”
“Can you make some coffee too?” Nejire asked her, rubbing her eyes tiredly. “I need to wake up..”
(First Name) nodded and set to work on making the coffee, the girl soon serving everyone their different meals. She set a plate of pancakes and a cup of umeboshi tea in front of Ochaco,a katsudon bowl and a cup of orange juice in front of Eijiro, another katsudon bowl and a cup of orange juice in front of Izuku, and a plate of biscuits and jelly with a glass of orange juice in front of Tsuyu. Since she was finished serving the first-years,she moved on to serve her friends, setting a stack of pancakes and a glass of orange juice in front of Mirio before setting a stack of pancakes and a cup of coffee in front of Nejire. “Tamaki, yours is gonna take a bit longer, but what do you want to drink?”
“Coffee..” Tamaki muttered, letting out another yawn and sighing.
(First Name) nodded and poured another cup of coffee, adding some sugar and a bit of milk before setting it in front of Tamaki. Once she was sure the clams and takoyaki were completely cooked, she set the plate in front of him, getting started on cleaning everything up. “Tell me if any of you guys want anything else instead of that stuff.”
“Thank you..” Ochaco muttered, taking a bite of the pancakes and letting out a squeak when she tasted how good it was. “This is amazing..”
“You’re the girl Fat Gum loves so much, aren’t you?” Eijiro asked as he shoved the delicious food into his mouth and grinned. “Dish ish da besht!”
“It’s good..” Tsuyu muttered as she bit into her second biscuit.
“(First Name)’s the best, right? Her food is even better than Lunch Rush’s food is!” Mirio beamed, continuing to wolf down his pancakes eagerly.
“Ah,so it is her!” Eijiro perked up,downing his orange juice quickly and wiping his mouth. “Fat Gum mentioned something about how Amajiki had brought her with him one day and how he’d cried after eating her takoyaki!”
“He still remembers that? It’s been nearly a year and a half since then!” (First Name) laughed, shaking her head at the memory. “It doesn’t surprise me,though, since he told me he loved any and all takoyaki anyways.”
“So who are you, anyways? Are you one of Hado’s classmates?” Ochaco asked her curiously, taking a sip of the sour tea and smiling.
“She’s my fiancée,” Mirio admitted proudly, grinning when he saw how shocked the first-years looked. “Go ahead and ask anything you want.”
“So you two are,like,together-together?” Eijiro asked, grinning when Mirio nodded. “That’s super manly!”
“When.. When I floated you guys down earlier, you were..” Ochaco couldn’t get the words out,her entire face bright red.
“We weren’t doing anything dirty,I promise. He had just come to tell me about the mission and that he wanted me to cook for him,” (First Name) assured her, laughing. “I’m in the general studies course here, and I study under Lunch Rush since I want to become a chef, but I’m also in charge of babysitting Mirio.”
“You cook with Lunch Rush? Is he cool?” Eijiro asked curiously, unable to contain his excitement. “The food he makes is awesome!”
“He’s kind, but he’s surprisingly strict in the kitchen,” (First Name) admitted, putting the pots and pans away once they were spotless. “I do have my provisional license since I use my Quirk unconsciously most of the time, but I never plan on using it to fight or anything,so I’ll be relying on you future heroes.”
“What’s your Quirk, anyways?” Izuku asked, suddenly interested in the conversation. “You mentioned that you use it,but what is it?”
“Oh,it kinda just makes me stronger when I’m anxious,” (First Name) told him, rubbing the back of her neck as she tried to think of how she should describe it. “It’s like the adrenaline rush people get when something bad happens around them, like how a mom can lift a car off of her kid or how your heart starts racing when someone jumps out and scares you,but it’s got a lot of drawbacks if I’m not careful.”
“It makes you super strong? How strong? What’s it feel like?” Izuku’s eyes lit up eagerly. “Can you show it?”
(First Name) was a bit weirded out with the boy’s eagerness, but she sighed and tried to think of the best way to demonstrate it. “I don’t really know how to explain it at all..”
“I know a way!” Mirio grinned, acting like he was going to slam his hand down on the stove.
(First Name)’s eyes darted over, the girl grabbing his wrist and flinging him back immediately. “Are you fucking stupid?”
“Ow..” Mirio whined, sitting up from where he’d landed on the ground. “That was mean,(First Name)..”
“You deserved it! Don’t purposefully scare me like that, you idiot!” (First Name) scolded him angrily, before reminding herself not to lose her temper. “No more questions about my Quirk and how it works, got it? I don’t like it because things like this happen.”
“Sorry..” Izuku muttered, feeling guilty about upsetting her.
“It’s fine, just try and be mindful about how others feel, alright? Not everyone likes their Quirk, and assuming people are okay with talking about it might hurt their feelings.” (First Name) reached across and ruffled his hair, before checking the time. “You guys only have half an hour before you need to get on the train. It takes an hour and a half to get there, and they’re expecting you guys to be at the agency by six,so you should hurry.”
“I’m gonna go get changed, then! Thanks for the food!” Eijiro jumped up,heading out the door eagerly.
“Thanks,(First Name)!” Ochaco told her, getting up and heading out the door as well.
“I need to hurry too,” Izuku muttered, shoving his face full of food and then jumping up. “Thanks!”
“Thanks for the food. Would you like help washing the dishes?” Tsuyu wiped her mouth and looked at the girl curiously.
“I’m fine. Stay safe out there,” (First Name) told her, smiling brightly as she watched the girl leave.
“We should get back and change as well,” Nejire told Tamaki, sliding out of her seat. “Thanks,(First Name).”
“Thanks..” Tamaki got up,heading out with Nejire and leaving (First Name) and Mirio there alone.
“Sorry for scaring you like that,I just thought it would lighten the mood of the first-years..” Mirio stood up,setting the empty plates and bowls in the sink and starting to wash them. “Are you angry?”
“I’m not angry,I was just upset.. You should go get ready as well,” (First Name) told him, nudging him away from the sink. “A hero can’t be late.”
“Right..” Mirio stepped away from the sink and sighed, drying his hands. “Wait here until I’m done getting dressed, alright?”
“I’ll be right here,” (First Name) promised, starting to wash the dishes calmly.
Mirio nodded and headed up to his room, getting dressed quickly and then coming back down. “I’m gonna save Eri and beat Overhaul up this time for sure.”
“Give him hell,” (First Name) told him, drying her hands and grinning. “I’ll be waiting for you to call and tell me the good news.”
“I’ll tell you everything face-to-face!” Mirio hugged her tightly, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” (First Name) looked up at him, taking in the sight of the anxiety he was desperately trying to conceal with a smile. “Just do your best and come home soon, okay?”
Mirio kissed her quick and then stepped back, giving her a grin. “I’ll see you soon!” He promised, heading out the door quickly; if he stayed any longer,he wouldn’t be able to tear himself away from her side and leave at all.
(First Name) forced herself to appear calm as she went about her day, though she couldn’t deceive Kuu’s sharp eyes.
“What’s got you so worked up today, kid?” Kuu asked as he watched her chop some green onions he needed to use for a dish. “You look like you’re gonna pass out.”
“What? No,I’m fine..” (First Name) lied, though the fake smile she had mustered disappeared when she suddenly felt a strong sense of something being wrong. “Oh..”
“What? Did you cut yourself or something?” Kuu asked, grabbing her hand to see if she had injured herself. “What’s gotten into you?”
“I.. I don’t know..” (First Name)’s eyes stung with tears, the girl knowing something had happened but praying she was wrong. “I.. May I be excused..?”
Kuu could tell something was wrong, but he didn’t know how to help her,so he just nodded and let go of her. “It’s best if you go back to your dorm for the day..”
(First Name) nodded, stumbling over to the door as her mind began to race with all sorts of possibilities. She tried to calm herself down by taking deep breaths, but it just seemed to make everything worse.
Mirio had seen the bullet flying towards Eri,and he had known he should have thought of some other way to keep them both safe, but his body had moved on its own. He used himself as a shield and took the bullet for her,and as he felt something inside of him change, his mind raced with the knowledge that he could die if he stayed there any longer, and yet he didn’t move. Memories flooded his mind, but he didn’t want to think of this as his life flashing before his eyes.
“Mirio,it’s pretty, right?” Seven-year-old (First Name) asked as she held the flower out to him with an adorable grin. “I found it when I went to visit my grandparents, and I thought you’d like it!”
“Mirio, are you okay?” (First Name) asked, though the boy had barely been able to see her since his cold had blurred his vision. “I’m right here,so don’t be scared, okay?”
“Mirio,Tamaki, look! There’s so many butterflies!” (First Name) called out, waiting until they were close enough to see before shaking the bush the insects were on. Watching as the butterflies flew away, she grinned happily. “Since it’s getting warm out, they’re starting to emerge! I saw all of their cocoons here a while ago,and since Tamaki likes butterflies so much,I wanted to show you guys!”
“Mirio, look! I got into UA!” (First Name) held the paper up and smiled brightly. “We get to go to the same highschool, too!”
“Mirio, your costume is super cool! I’m so jealous!” (First Name) whined, before noticing it was missing something. “You should add a cape, you know? A hero needs a cape!”
“Mirio, don’t push yourself too hard, okay?” (First Name) asked as she wrapped up his bloodied knuckles. “I hate seeing you in pain like this..”
“Just do your best and come home soon, okay?”
He needed to keep Eri safe until the others arrived, even if it meant fighting Quirkless.. Nothing he had done would ever be a waste.
Mirio was hardly able to stay upright as he stood in front of Eri,his breathing ragged and his heartbeat going a mile a second. He needed to protect her,he needed to get her away, but there was no way he could get her out of here with Overhaul in front of him like this.
Izuku came flying through the wall suddenly, punching Overaul to keep him from attacking Mirio again.
Mirai’s eyes darted around the room quickly, examining the situation, before his gaze landed on his battered and bruised star pupil. His anxieties ate away at him when he saw all of the boy’s injuries, rushing to him. “Mirio..”
“Eri.. is behind.. me..” Mirio wheezed out, collapsing into his mentor’s arms as he struggled to catch his breath. He wanted to cry,he wanted to run away and scream and just get back to (First Name),but he couldn’t do any of that right now since he hadn’t rescued Eri yet.
Mirai held the boy up,pulling Eri close as well so he could better protect both of them. Though his mind was racing with what he should do,he saw the fear in his pupil’s eyes and resigned himself to doing what he could. “Incredible.. Good job,Mirio..!” He gripped them close, knowing (First Name) was waiting on the boy to come home to her. “She’s waiting on you,so stay awake, okay?” He asked, clutching them close when Overhaul tried to stab at them with sharp rocks; they thankfully missed, but he doubted they would get so lucky next time.
Mirio forced himself to stay awake, gripping onto his mentor’s shirt when he heard Overhaul bring up the fact that he had lost his Quirk forever. “It’s.. It’s fine..”
Mirai’s grip on the boy tightened, his mind racing as he realized what he’d caused by forcing the boy into this situation, but he just took a deep breath and set Mirio and Eri down, turning and throwing one of his weapons at Overhaul. “I’ll take him on! Take care of Lemillion and Eri!” He ordered the broccoli-haired boy, wanting to buy time for them to make an escape and hear whether or not Overhaul was telling the truth about Mirio losing his Quirk.
Mirio struggled to catch his breath as his mentor fought Overhaul, unable to even raise his head when Izuku asked if he could walk. “Yeah.. no problem..” He lied, knowing he needed to keep going; Eri wasn’t safe yet,and he wasn’t back home. “But.. after all this.. I let her down..”
Izuku swallowed his anxieties and explained to them his plan to escape, picking them up and kicking a giant hole into the wall so he could flee with them.
Mirio turned his head to see how his teacher was doing, his eyes widening when he saw the rocks stab him. “Sir!”
Mirai struggled to breathe at all,Mirio’s voice bringing him back to his senses and reminding him about what he was desperately trying to protect. He doubted he could survive with his injuries this severe,so he thought he had nothing left to lose when he used his Quirk on Chisaki.. He had been completely wrong. The future he saw told him that sacrificing himself did nothing but delay the inevitable, and he wanted to scream and curse his very existence at the knowledge that this would all become futile.
Mirio held Eri as Izuku set them down, watching as the boy turned back to keep fighting Overhaul; he had to take Eri and leave the fighting to the others, but he couldn’t make his body move until his promise to (First Name) flashed in his mind. Holding the girl’s arm,he started limping down the hallway, leaning against the wall for support as he struggled to keep moving. When he could no longer move,he knew he needed to at least do something. “Eri.. find somewhere to hide.. Backup’ll.. Be here soon.. Dozens of people.. Are on their way.. Just to save you..!” He choked out, forcing himself to stay conscious; this could be the end,but he had to keep doing his best until the very end. “Eri.. It’s all good.. You’re.. Gonna be just fine!” Realizing he wasn’t getting an answer,he felt his spirit breaking. “Eri!” He forced his head up,his eyes widening when he realized the girl had run back towards the hole they had left through. He forced himself to his feet thanks to the adrenaline, but he couldn’t force his body to move any further than that, and darkness overcame him as he passed out.
Mirai watched as Izuku desperately fought to change the future, hardly able to speak when Tsuyu made it to him. “You guys.. Will be fine.. At the very least.. He’s not coming after you.. For now.. He’s heading above ground.. In pursuit of Midoriya and Eri.. That’s when.. He kills.. Midoriya!” He forced the words out, praying that he was somehow wrong.
“We can’t just sit here after hearing that..” Ryukyu tried to think of how to help.
Mirai knew there was no future for him, even if Izuku somehow managed to win,but he needed to know if there was a possibility Izuku really could change the future. “Mirio should be beyond that hole in the wall.. Take care of him properly,Froppy.. Uravity,Ryukyu.. Get me to the surface!”
When Mirio next woke up,he was being helped to an ambulance by Tamaki, the blond not fully aware of what was going on as he leaned against his friend. “Tam.. aki..” He felt ready to pass out,but he wanted to know how everyone was doing first.
Tamaki’s heart ached when he heard how rough his friend sounded, but he didn’t know how to comfort him. “Focus on yourself for now,Mirio..” He said, leaving him in the care of the paramedics and going to try and find Fat Gum amidst the aftermath of the battle.
Mirai awoke to the sight of a hospital ceiling and a horrible pain from his stomach, but he was happy. Turning his head,he spotted his sidekicks, giving them a weak smile. “Kaoruko.. Juzo..”
“Sir..” Kaoruko’s eyes filled with tears, the girl grabbing his hand and gripping it. “You’re..”
“I know.. How is Mirio?” Mirai squeezed her hand back, though he hardly had the strength to do so. “And Deku?”
“They’re fine, they’re being treated right now..” Juzo assured him, forcing himself to keep his composure. “Sir,wha-”
“I’m not gonna make it,you know?” Mirai smiled tiredly, though he was scared of what would happen. “I’ll leave things to you,Juzo.. You’ll take care of the agency and Kaoruko, right?”
“Of course..” Juzo clenched his fists, wanting to break down but knowing he needed to be strong. “The others are outside.. Do you wish to see them?”
Mirai nodded, though he wanted to laugh when he saw Toshinori walk into the room; it had been too long since they’d last seen each-other,and it was all because he had been too much of a stubborn idiot to accept his friend’s decision.
Mirio had woken up to a massive headache, and upon hearing the doctors in the hallway mention his mentor’s name,he suddenly snapped to his senses and forced himself out of the bed. Stumbling through the hallways and making his way towards the room number they had mentioned,he ignored the nurses that tried to hold him back, shoving his way into the room as the realization that his mentor was going to die began to sink in. “Sir Nighteye!” He shouted, his eyes landing on him immediately. Ignoring the nurse that was trying to pull him back,he hurried over to him, grabbing the edge of the bed.
“Mirio..” Mirai tried to smile, but he couldn’t force the expression on his face.
“No! You gotta live! Don’t you die on me!” Mirio shouted, tears rolling down his face. “Sir!”
“Mirio.. I’ve put you.. through so much hardship..” Mirai thought back to all of the times he had made the boy train until he’d passed out, only now realizing how hard he had forced the boy to push himself. “If only I’d.. Been there for you..”
“I only got stronger ‘cause of everything you taught me! It’s thanks to you that I’ve got the life I do!” Mirio gripped the edge of the bed,his mind racing with everything he wanted to tell him. “You gotta keep teaching me! You can’t die now!”
Mirai stared up at his prized pupil’s teary face, and he suddenly recalled his own selfish desire to see the future the boy would build with (First Name). Reaching up,he used his Quirk, seeing the future he had desperately wanted for his student. Images of (First Name) crying,of them laughing,of them eating together and growing old and being happy together, filled his mind, reassuring him that Mirio would have a happy future even without him there. “You’ll be okay.. You’ll make.. A fine hero.. That.. Is one part of the future.. That mustn’t… Be changed..” He could feel himself losing strength,so he pulled his hand back and gave his best smile. “So.. Keep smiling! A world without smiles and humor.. Has no bright future..”
Mirio couldn’t smile when he heard the machine flatline, the boy gripping his head and just letting out a yell as he began hyperventilating as reality sunk in. He looked around desperately for some sort of solace, but nobody could offer him anything, and that only made his panic worse. He struggled to try and catch his breath, but he passed out before he could.
Shota was the one who caught the blond, the man just sighing and carrying the boy back to his hospital room and setting him down on the bed carefully. Before he could leave, the door was flung open in his face, making him step back when he saw a familiar face he had seen in the hallway a few times. “(Last Name)? Hey,calm down!” He held her back when she tried to run towards Mirio, knowing the girl’s anxieties were at an all-time high and her Quirk was definitely active. Using his own Quirk to try and keep her from advancing,he kept her in the doorway. “You need to calm down!”
“Move,Aizawa!” (First Name) struggled, just wanting to see how badly hurt Mirio was; Fat Gum had called her and told her about Mirio’s condition, but she didn’t know what had happened to Mirai,so she didn’t understand why Mirio looked so scared if he was supposed to be asleep. “Why is he like that? Haven’t they been treating his wounds?!”
“Calm down!” Shota raised his voice, relaxing when the girl had finally stopped struggling. “He just watched his mentor die after going through an extremely traumatic fight. You being upset won’t help.”
(First Name) looked up at him,not believing his words until she saw the pity in his eyes. Clenching her fists, she took a deep breath and nodded, bottling her emotions up. “I won’t cry,so can I please just see him?” She asked, her voice cracking.
Shota stepped out of the way and sighed, wondering what he should say in a situation like this. “I need you to tell me when he wakes up,but tell me,what do you know so far?”
“Mirio told me everything leading up to it,Fat Gum told me you guys retrieved Eri,and you just told me that Sir is dead. That’s all I need to know right now,” (First Name) replied, sitting beside Mirio’s bed with a hollow expression. “I’ll find you once he’s ready to see you,but I won’t call for you the second he wakes up. Bombarding him with questions would only hurt him.”
“Right..” Shota sighed, deciding he should just leave for now. “Just find me if you need anything..” He muttered, retreating out of the room quickly.
(First Name) looked over Mirio’s injuries, but she forced herself not to cry, trying to think of what she could do to help him feel better. Deciding he could probably use something sweet, she quietly left the room and headed down the hallway, though she felt like a zombie as she walked.
“That you,(First Name)?” Taishiro asked when the girl passed him while he was on his way back from the convenience store, frowning when she didn’t reply. Turning and grabbing her arm,he almost didn’t know what to say when he saw how empty she looked. “Hey,yer not okay at all.. Wanna sit down and talk for a minute?”
(First Name) tried to hold back, but the man’s kind words and genuine worry told her that she didn’t need to hold it in,her tears falling quickly as she sunk into a chair. “I.. I was scared..”
Taishiro nodded and patted her back, though he couldn’t imagine how terrifying it would be to know that someone you had spent your whole life with could have been killed. “That’s not all it was,was it?”
(First Name) shook her head, wiping at her eyes desperately and sniffling. “I didn’t want Mirio to go at all.. Overhaul’s Quirk sounded super scary, and I know he’s a hero and it’s his job to save people like Eri,but that doesn’t mean it’s any less scary.. And I just.. I knew something was wrong, and I couldn’t sit still, and then you called and said that Mirio and Tamaki were hurt, and I was just..”
“Everyone was scared, even me. It’s okay to cry about it,” Taishiro comforted her the best he could, not paying attention to his snacks for once. “Is Togata still asleep?”
“Mr.Aizawa said that he’d just watched Sir die,so I’m sure he had passed out..” (First Name) sniffled and dried her tears, trying to pull herself together. “I wanted to get him some pocky to try and cheer him up..”
“If it’s pocky ya want, you can take the box I bought,” Taishiro offered, reaching into the bag and holding it out to her. “Ya can be there when he wakes up,now, right?”
(First Name)’s bottom lip trembled, the girl bowing her head as she took the box. “Thank you..”
“Don’t worry about it! Come visit Tamaki when ya get the chance, and I’ll call it even! His injuries aren’t much compared to Togata’s injuries, but I’m sure he’ll feel even better if ya tell him that too!” Taishiro beamed, just happy he could help her. “Do yer best, but don’t hurt yerself by tryin’ to act happy. I’m sure it’d make Togata feel better if ya were just honest.”
“Thank you,” (First Name) repeated, before standing up. “I’ll come see Tamaki soon!” She added, before heading back to Mirio’s room quickly.
When Mirio woke up an hour later,he panicked once again, though he calmed down a little when he saw that (First Name) was there. “(First Name)..?” His lip trembled, the boy clenching his fists and doing his best to force a smile when he recalled his mentor’s dying words. “How come you look like you’ve been crying..?”
(First Name) looked up at him,her eyes filling with tears once again when she saw his pathetic attempt to deceive her. Battling back her own tears, she took a deep breath and forced the words out. “Welcome back,Mirio.”
Mirio’s composure disappeared completely, messy tears rolling down his cheeks now. He sniffled and wiped at his eyes and tried to work through everything he was feeling, but he knew he was relieved to have (First Name) by his side again. “I.. I told you I’d come back, right?”
(First Name) couldn’t hold back any longer, just standing up and hugging him tightly. She buried her face in his chest and broke down, gripping onto him as tightly as she could. Though she had already learned of their mentor’s death, knowing that Mirio had witnessed it hurt just as bad as the loss did. “I.. I knew something happened, and I.. I was so scared that I would never see you again, and I..”
“I thought I wouldn’t be able to come back to you..” Mirio clutched her close, trembling as he recalled the memory. “I kept Eri safe, but I thought for sure it was all gonna be over when I lost my Quirk.. I was so scared you would just be waiting for me forever,and.. And seeing Sir like..” He choked up,not wanting to recall his mentor’s face. “You can’t ever disappear, okay (First Name)? Promise me..”
“I promise I’ll never disappear,” (First Name) sniffled and pulled back slightly so she could wipe her eyes. “What.. What did Sir say?”
“He said I’ll make a fine hero..” Mirio pulled her closer again, not wanting to be apart from her for even a second. “How are the others..?”
“Tamaki’s got an injured face, but Fat Gum said it would heal without scarring,so he’ll be fine.. Nejire,Kirishima,Asui, and Uraraka all just had minor injuries from what I’ve heard,Deku’s fine, and Eri’s got a fever,” (First Name) explained, gripping onto him tightly. “It looks like everyone will be fine, though,so don’t worry too much..”
Mirio nodded, pulling her down on the bed so they could just cuddle for a while. “Don’t leave for even a second,okay..?”
“I won’t,I promise..” (First Name) squeezed his hand, just taking in the sight of his face. “Thank you for keeping your promise..”
“Thank you for waiting for me..” Mirio held her hand tightly, deciding he could work through his feelings slowly instead of trying to pretend like he was okay like he usually did. “You’re real, right?”
“Of course I’m real..” (First Name) pulled his hand up so he was touching her face, giving him a soft smile. “See?”
Mirio rubbed her cheek, promising himself that he would treasure every day like this for the rest of his life. “What is it they say in wedding vows? ‘To have and to hold for the rest of our lives’ or something?”
(First Name) giggled and nodded, pressing into his touch. “Glad to see you know so much about weddings,Mr.Casanova.”
Mirio chuckled and shook his head, happy she was still by his side after so long. “Well you’re mine to have and to hold, right?”
“I’m not wearing a ring for no reason, you know?” (First Name) looked down at the ring she never took off, smiling at the simple band that adorned her finger. “I’ll always love you, even when we’re old and gray!”
“I love you more..” Mirio pulled her close, trusting in whatever future his mentor had seen; if Mirai said he would be okay, then they’d both be okay for sure.
Shota stood outside of the room and listened to the young lovers, deciding he didn’t need to cheer Mirio up after all since (First Name) was there, and then took his leave.
And all of my love, for the rest of my life, will be only for you ‘till the day that I die
‘Till the day that I die
A year passed,and (First Name) stood in front of a familiar gravestone,squeezing her fiancé’s hand. “It’s been a while,Sir..”
“We’re graduates now,you know? I was going to stay on a break until Eri was able to return my Quirk, but I wanted to graduate and become a different type of Lemillion..” Mirio could practically feel his mentor watching over them. “If you hadn’t encouraged me back then,I probably would have been too scared to ask (First Name) out,you know? I owe you way more than you ever realized..”
“I’ve gotten better at cooking, too! And I even got into the same college as Mirio!” (First Name) hoped the man was listening. “I’ll make sure to take care of Mirio until I die,so don’t worry about him, okay?”
“And I’ll keep (First Name) safe, too! I’ll become a fine hero, just like you said,so I’m not scared..” Mirio wiped at his eyes, giving a bright smile. “I’ll save a million people, and I’ll help Bubble Girl and Centipeder and make you proud.”
And all of my world,it revolves around you- there is no part of me that exists without you
Yeah,I’m lost without you
“Mirio,do you think we ever changed the future like Deku did?” (First Name) asked him randomly one night.
“Who cares if we did? This is the future we chose together, right?” Mirio smiled at her, squeezing her hand.
“I was talking to my mom the other day,and she brought up how we met back then, and it just made me start to think about whether or not we’d be like this if you hadn’t reached out to me..” (First Name) admitted, though she couldn’t imagine never meeting Mirio.
“No matter how many possibilities the world has,us never meeting wasn’t one of them. I wouldn’t exist without you,” Mirio told her, pulling her closer. “So don’t think about the past so much, okay? We’re together, and that’s all that matters to me.”
“Yeah..” (First Name) snuggled even closer. “I wouldn’t exist without you,either..”
Hold me tightly in your arms,in your arms, and breathe in deeply,my love,my love
And hold me tightly in your arms,in your arms, and breathe in deeply,my love,my love
(First Name) shook Mirio awake when she realized he was having a nightmare, pushing his hair out of his face so he could see her. “Hey,hey,it’s okay.. It’s just me..”
Mirio took a few deep breaths as he came to his senses, his eyes filling with tears when he remembered the dream. Needing a distraction,he pulled her close and buried his face in her hair, breathing in her comforting scent as he clutched her close.
“It’s okay.. I’m right here..” (First Name) hugged him back, already used to how he was after he had a nightmare. “Just focus on me,okay?”
I was yours from the start- every breath and beat of my heart
Forever and always, you’ll be forever with me
(First Name) held the baby in her arms close as she hummed a lullaby, patting her son’s back as she tried to soothe his fussiness; this was the fourth night in a row he had woken her up with his incessant crying, but she knew he just wanted her there.
“Give him to me and get back in bed, love,” Mirio told her,not wanting her to overwork herself. “I’ll take care of him,so go get some sleep..”
“Thanks..” (First Name) yawned, passing the fussy baby to her husband and retreating to their bedroom, flopping on the bed and pulling the blankets closer.
“Hush, hush, you’re fine..” Mirio soothed as he rubbed his son’s back, wanting to get back to sleep as well. “You’re gonna make mommy sad if you keep crying like this,Mirai..” He continued rocking him, relaxing when the boy finally settled down and fell asleep again. Setting him down in the crib carefully and retreating back to the bedroom he shared with (First Name),he slid into bed beside her, pulling her close. “I’ll take care of him tomorrow, too,so just get some sleep, okay?”
“But what if he needs me..?” (First Name) asked, laying her head on his chest and listening to his heartbeat. “I don’t wanna be a bad mom..”
“You’re a perfect mother, and anyone who says differently can just disappear,” Mirio told her, looking down at her and smiling. “Our family is oursand ours alone, nobody has a say in what we do or how we parent.”
(First Name) nodded, finally feeling at ease and relaxing into his arms. “Love.. you..” She muttered as she dozed off with a tired smile.
“I love you too,(First Name).. Forever and always.”
