Mirio X Cold!Reader
I stay up late and I talk to the moon
And I can't stop telling him all about you
Mirio Togata had never been the type to even consider falling in love with someone, let alone fall in love with someone at first sight, but when he walked into the Costume Development Studio on the first day of his first year at U.A.,the blond fell in love.
Mirio stared at the girl’s back as he stood there, completely forgetting why he’d come into the room for a minute. Soaking in the sight of beautiful (Hair Color) hair tied back with a bright red ribbon, and the sight of (Skin Color) hands carefully writing something down on a piece of paper, the blond was stunned.
“How can I help you?” Higari asked the boy, sighing when he didn’t get a reaction. Waving his hands in front of the boy’s face,he repeated his question. “How can I help you?”
Mirio blinked a few times, clearing his throat as he finally snapped out of his trance. “Ah,sorry,I’m here to get my hair cut off so it can be used for my hero suit..”
“Oh,that’s who you are? Togata, right? (Last Name) will be the one cutting your hair, since I don’t exactly have the right kind of hands for that thing,” Higari told him, before turning and shaking the girl’s shoulder. “(Last Name),you’ve gotta cut this kid’s hair so we can make his costume.”
(First Name) didn’t break concentration as she kept writing things down, her eyes locked on the small robot she was working on. When she felt him shake her shoulder once again, she let out a sigh and set the pencil she was using down. “Sensei, you promised me I could spend today working on my robot. Why are you bugging me?”
“Be glad I’m letting you stay in here, you little brat. You’re here to help me out in designing costumes, not just focus on your robots. This is the kid who needs his hero costume made out of his hair. You wanted to do it yourself, right?” Higari sighed,a little frustrated with the girl. He’d known her since she was a baby, but her focus on her work had gotten to the point of obsession.
(First Name) snapped around immediately at the news, her eyes locking on Mirio. She looked him up and down for a minute, before nodding a little. “I can work with this..” She muttered, before walking over and grabbing the scissors. “Sit down in that chair over there.”
“Right..” Mirio said, still a little starstruck by how pretty the girl was. Sitting down in the short chair,he let his hair out of the ponytail he had put it in earlier that morning. “You’re a student here as well, right? What year are you in?”
“I’m a first-year in the support class, but I’m assigned to assist Mr.Maijima with creating hero costumes because of my Quirk,” (First Name) said, walking over to him calmly. She carefully began cutting his hair,a blank expression on her face as she concentrated. “You don’t have to worry,I’ve got my costume development license already.”
“Seriously? I thought you couldn’t get that until after you became an adult?” Mirio asked, amazed that the girl was a licensed developer; according to his uncle, passing the test to become a costume developer was nearly impossible.
“My middle-school offered a special three-year program for those of us interested in becoming developers. After the program was finished, the people with the highest grades were offered an opportunity to take the same test the adults did.” (First Name) told him as she kept working on his hair, being careful not to screw up; she knew she would need every strand she could get in order to make his costume.
“(Last Name)’s actually the youngest costume developer in Japan currently,” Higari added as he began to work on another costume. “She’s too smart for her own good.”
“That’s awesome..” Mirio muttered, amazed he had someone so talented working on his costume; it would definitely turn out exactly how he wanted if (First Name) was the one working on it.
“You’re finished,” (First Name) said, holding a mirror up so Mirio could see the haircut she’d given him. “I’ll have your costume done by tomorrow.”
Mirio looked at the haircut, amazed that it looked so good. Looking back at (First Name),he raised an eyebrow. “Doesn’t it usually take a week or two to make a costume?”
“For a costume designed as simple as yours is,I can complete it by tomorrow if I don’t sleep tonight,” (First Name) said calmly, gathering the hair. “You should probably leave now.”
“Right..” Mirio said awkwardly, standing up and clearing his throat. He didn’t want to leave yet,but he didn’t want to invade (First Name)’s work time,so he thanked her and walked out.
“Woah, your new haircut looks great,Togata! It’s pretty!” Nejire told him when she saw him. She and Tamaki had stayed after school to wait for him at the front gate.
“Thanks. You should’ve seen the girl that cut it,she was beautiful!” Mirio told her, smiling brightly as he walked with his friends.
“Rea.. Really? How?” Tamaki asked as he stayed close to his blond friend.
“I’ll tell you more about her later, but for now we should celebrate making it through our first day, right?” Mirio asked, grinning at him cheekily. “I vote we stop and eat somewhere!”
“Definitely! I’m starving!” Nejire told him energetically as she walked beside her friends.
The next day,Mirio was sent by his Foundational Heroics Studies teacher to get his costume from the Costume Development Studio since it hadn’t arrived yet. After knocking on the door and not hearing a reply,he slid the door open and looked around curiously. “Hello?”
Higari looked out from his side room when he heard a voice, perking up when he saw Mirio. “Ah,Togata, you’re here to pick up your costume, right? Sorry that I didn’t send it in on time, but (Last Name) insisted that you had to see it first.”
“So where is it?” Mirio asked curiously, walking over to the teacher.
“It’s over there.” Higari said, nodding at another little side room that had the door closed.
“Thanks!” Mirio said, walking over and knocking on the door. After not getting a reply,he slid the door open while muttering an apology, his eyes widening when he saw (First Name) chugging an energy drink.
After finishing the energy drink and throwing the can away,(First Name) looked over at him casually. “Sorry you had to see that.. Anyways,it took all night, and the majority of today, but I finished your costume.” She told him, nodding at the mannequin dressed in the hero costume.
Walking around the mannequin,Mirio examined it curiously, his eyes widening when he saw something he hadn’t asked for. “You added gloves?”
“Yeah. There was plenty of extra hair left over,so I decided to add the gloves. If you don’t like them, you don’t have to wear it.” (First Name) said, letting out a quiet yawn.
“Why’d you add them, though? Costume developers usually don’t add anything their customers don’t ask for, right?” Mirio asked, looking at his costume in amazement.
“They’ll protect your hands, and they add a bit more color to your costume,” (First Name) said, starting to scribble a few things down on a piece of paper. “If you don’t want them,I’ll repurpose them.”
“No,I definitely want them.. They’re cool..” Mirio told her quickly, taking the costume off the mannequin and putting it in the case before looking over at her. “Thanks for staying up all night to make it for me.”
“It’s my job. You still have a hero class to go to,right? You’d better hurry.” (First Name) told him, continuing to write down the new ideas she’d come up with.
“Right! See you next time!” Mirio called out, running out as he held the case with his costume in it tightly. He wanted to see (First Name) again already, but he wasn’t sure how to go about that.
Three weeks passed, and Mirio was sent to the nurse’s office during his Hero Basics class since he’d managed to cut his arm pretty badly while training. Knocking on the door,he opened it when Chiyo called for him to come in.
“Hey,Ms.Recovery Girl.. I got a pretty nasty cut..” Mirio told her, wishing he didn’t have to bother the poor old woman.
“Go sit down on the bed and I’ll be over in a minute.” Chiyo told him as she continued typing out a document.
“Yes ma’am.” Mirio told her, sitting down on one of the empty beds.
(First Name) slid the curtain separating her bed from Mirio’s bed open suddenly. “Did you rip your costume?”
Mirio jumped off the bed, jerking his head around to look at her in shock. “What the heck are you doing in here?”
“I passed out during classes. Did you rip your costume or not?” (First Name) asked, sighing a bit when she saw the bloodied material. Standing up,she walked over to one of the cabinets and grabbed a disinfectant before walking over to Mirio and pushing him onto the bed calmly. Grabbing the sleeve on his injured arm,she ripped the fabric off, trying her best to avoid the cut.
“What are you doing?” Mirio asked, panicking a little at her actions. Being pushed onto a bed by a girl for the first time freaked him out,but the blond tried his best not to show it.
“I’m disinfecting your cut,you idiot.” (First Name) said as she started to disinfect the cut carefully.
“But you ripped my sleeve off.. You spent a lot of time working on it..” Mirio muttered, feeling bad that he’d ruined her hard work.
“So? I can easily repair your costume whenever I need to,but don’t take that as an incentive to get injured again,” (First Name) told him, sighing as she wiped off the blood gently. “The hero is definitely more important than the costume.”
“Right..” Mirio murmured, watching as she cleaned him up. He was amazed by every little thing (First Name) did.
“Ms.Shuzenji,he’s ready to properly be healed now.” (First Name) told the woman as she put the disinfectant up and threw the wipes away.
“Thanks, sweetheart. Are you feeling better now?” Chiyo asked, looking over at her worriedly.
“Yes ma’am. Thanks for letting me rest here today,” (First Name) said, bowing to her before raising her head. “I’m going to head back to class now,so I’ll see you later. Togata, come to the Development Studio later.”
“Right..” Mirio nodded a little, knowing she’d need to patch his costume up. “I’ll see you later,then..”
(First Name) left the room with a blank expression on her face, heading back to her class with a sigh.
That afternoon,Mirio took his costume to the Development Studio and went straight to (First Name)’s side room, knocking on the door. “(Last Name),are you here?”
“Come in,” (First Name) called out as she scribbled down some of her ideas for a new costume. Hearing the door open, she nodded to the empty table on the other side of the little room. “Get it out of the case and lay it down over there.”
Mirio did as told, laying his costume out carefully before turning to look at her. “What are you working on,anyways?”
“It’s nothing,” (First Name) replied as she pushed the paper underneath one of the many stacks on her table, rising from her seat and untying her hair since it was too loose for her liking. She then quickly retied the ribbon and walked over to the table. Seeing her reflection on the metal table, she sighed when she saw how messy her hair looked. “I swear I’m just gonna chop it all off..”
“Would you like me to tie it for you?” Mirio questioned, leaning forward to see her reaction. He chuckled when he saw the confusion on her face, the blond rubbing the back of his neck. “I got used to tying my own hair back,so I’m pretty good at dealing with hair.”
(First Name) paused for a moment to mull over his justification, the girl nodding after nearly a minute had passed. “Sure, but you’d better not mess it up. Do you want me to sit down?”
“Nah,you’re shorter than me,so I can tie it for you while you’re standing up,” Mirio assured her, carefully untying the ribbon. Gathering all of her hair in his hands,he took a second to appreciate how soft it was, smiling a tiny bit to himself before starting to tie it. He made sure the knot was tight before stepping back and examining his work, glad it didn’t look bad. “Better?”
“Yeah.. Thanks for that,by the way.. I’ve never really been good at doing my own hair..” (First Name) confessed, before turning her attention to the costume. Recalling his injuries from earlier, she turned and grabbed his arm, looking it over and relaxing once she realized it hadn’t left a scar. “I wish I could make the material thick enough to protect you from rocks, but I can’t really change the materials your costume is made out of without it compromising your abilities to use your Quirk properly..”
“It’s not your fault at all! I was just being careless earlier,so I got hurt. It’s my fault, not yours.” Mirio exclaimed, not wanting her to blame herself for his injuries.
(First Name) heard his words, but she pushed the idea out of her head immediately; her job was to create costumes that keep the hero wearing them safe, and she had failed to design one that could keep Mirio safe. “I’ll get to work on fixing it now..”
Mirio just stood nearby, curious about what (First Name)’s Quirk was. His eyes widened when he saw her grab some of the leftover hair, watching as it turned into a red fabric. “Is that your Quirk? Turning things into fabric?”
(First Name) paused, debating on whether or not she should tell Mirio the truth. “My Quirk is called ‘Turning Point’. I can turn any non-living I touch into any other non-living thing I want. I can turn a feather into a knife,or a piece of wood into a piece of metal.” She admitted hesitantly as she started to sew the fabric onto the costume properly.
“That’s super cool! No wonder you’re so good at making things!” Mirio grinned at her, amazed by how cool her Quirk was.
(First Name) didn’t reply, though she did let a silent sigh slip out of her lips. She should have known better than to hope someone would value the work she did after finding out about her Quirk; nobody had ever praised her for the work she put into making things out of the things she changed using her Quirk. She soon finished sewing the sleeve onto the costume, stepping back and wiping the sweat off her forehead. “It’s done. Try not to get hurt again.”
“I promise I’ll be more careful from now on!” Mirio vowed, grinning at her as he folded his costume up and put it back in the case. “Thanks,(Last Name)!”
“Just leave your costume here and head home,I’ll take it to your teacher for you.” (First Name) ordered, biting back a yawn as she sat down at her desk.
“When do you head home, anyways?” Mirio questioned, realizing he’d never seen (First Name) among the sea of people that flooded through the gate after school was over.
(First Name) picked up her pencil calmly and set to work on filling out a few documents, keeping her eyes on the paper as she replied. “I don’t head home until it’s dark out. My parents work until late at night,so I stay here until I’m kicked out.”
“Woah, really? Heading home in the dark is dangerous! Why not just go to a friend’s house while your parents are at work?” Mirio exclaimed, his eyes widening.
“I don’t have friends,” (First Name) told him, continuing to work on the document she was looking at. “And since I know you’ll ask why,let me tell you ahead of time that the only thing I wish to invest time in is working on designing costumes and robots. Anything else you’d like to ask?”
“Aren’t you lonely?” Mirio asked, looking at her curiously. Seeing someone his own age sitting at such a giant desk felt wrong.
“Lonely?” (First Name) paused for a moment, pondering the question. “Do I seem lonely? I consider my work quite fulfilling,as it allows me to assist people in saving lives, but I suppose it could look different to others..” Pressing her foot into the ground, she spun her chair around to face the blond, looking straight at him calmly. “Is finding pleasure in solitude wrong?”
“No,but.. Well,I..” Mirio struggled to come up with an answer underneath the girl’s gaze, averting his eyes. “I just thought that maybe you’d enjoy having friends if you made some first.. Nobody actually likes being alone..”
“Togata,I beg of you to keep that sort of ideology as you age. It seems I have forgotten just how innocent some people are,so thank you for this reminder,” (First Name) quipped, before spinning her chair so she was facing her desk once again. “Have a good night,Togata.”
“Did someone hurt you or something?” Mirio gritted his teeth, wondering why (First Name) was so against opening herself up to new experiences.
“Why do you ask that?” (First Name) questioned, picking her pencil back up and looking down at her documents once again. “Did you misunderstand me calling you innocent as me saying I’m not innocent? I thought it was better than calling you naive, but forgive me for not properly speaking my thoughts.”
“(Last Name),that’s enough,” Higari growled from the doorway. “I came to see what was taking the repair of Togata’s suit so long, but I understand now that you were bullying him.”
Mirio turned to look at Higari in shock; he’d never seen the man look so angry before, and he hadn’t even noticed his presence before he’d spoken. Realizing the man misunderstood,he tried to think of how to calm him down. “Sir,you’re misunder-”
“It appears I am.. Forgive me,Togata. I did not realize my words had come off harsh,” (First Name) interrupted Mirio, spinning around and narrowing her eyes at her teacher. “We’re good now, right?”
Higari grinded his teeth to keep himself from shouting at the girl. Taking a deep breath,he calmed himself, knowing her situation at home was the source of her issues. “Go home,(Last Name). I’ll handle cleaning the studio today, but you’ve been overworking yourself and need to rest.”
“So you’re angry at me for telling the truth?” (First Name) scoffed, standing up and glaring at the teacher.
“You know it’s not like that,so don’t go off on one of your little tirades. Just head home and get some rest,” Higari ordered, not wanting the girl to end up losing her temper. “You collapsed today,so you need to rest. Togata, can you make sure she gets home safe?”
“Of course,sir..” Mirio agreed immediately, happy he would have the chance to walk home with (First Name). Even if it was under such negative circumstances,he couldn’t help but feel excited.
“You’re seriously going to make him escort me?” (First Name) clenched her fists, before holding her hand up to silence the teacher before he could speak. “Forget it. I’ll go,but you have to finish working on that armor repair yourself.”
Higari hesitated for a moment at that, not really wanting to repair the suit of armor alone. “Deal..”
“Whatever..” (First Name) muttered, grabbing her bag and stomping out of the room angrily.
Mirio followed (First Name) quickly, thanking Higari as he left the studio. “Hey,(Last Name),how come you’re so mad about being sent home early? I get not wanting to be home alone, but surely you can handle it for one night?”
“Just shut up..” (First Name) muttered, making it outside quickly and walking towards the gate.
“Hey,Togata! Togata,we’re here!” Nejire called out eagerly when she spotted her friend with (First Name),waving and grinning. “Is this the girl you were talking about the other day?”
“Yeah, her name is (Last Name),” Mirio told her as they reached the gate. Realizing (First Name) hadn’t stopped,he grabbed the back of her shirt and pulled her back. “We’re walking her home today since she passed out earlier.”
“Oh,really?! Cool! Nice to meet you,(Last Name)!” Nejire beamed at the girl, her eyes sparkling.
(First Name) looked at Nejire, frustrated since she couldn’t be rude to the girl. “Likewise.”
“You’re super pretty!” Nejire told her,giggling a little. “What’s your first name,anyways?!”
(First Name) clenched her jaw, trying to remind herself not to lose her temper. “It doesn’t matter what my first name is. Let’s just go.”
“Right! I totally get it!” Nejire chirped, smiling brightly as she followed the girl with Tamaki and Mirio close behind.
It took half an hour for them to reach (First Name)’s house,Mirio’s eyes widening as he looked up at the giant building. “You live here?”
“Sadly.” (First Name) sighed, pressing the buzzer to open the gate.
“Welcome home,my lady,” A maid greeted as she pushed the large gate open. “What brings you home so soon today?”
“Is that your place to question?” (First Name) growled out as she stomped by the maid, her patience wearing thin quickly.
“Forgive me,my lady!” The maid apologized quickly, anxious that (First Name) might shout at her. Upon seeing Mirio and his friends, she paused for a moment. “Did you three walk home with the young lady today?”
“Yep! She fainted today,so we walked her home!” Nejire told her before Mirio could speak, smiling brightly at the maid.
“Thank you very much for taking care of her, then.” The maid told them before closing the gate.
Mirio exchanged curious glances with his friends, before they all shrugged and walked away so they could walk to their own houses together.
Later that night,Mirio was staring at his ceiling in silence, feeling like something was eating away at his mind. Frustrated,he rolled over and called Tamaki, waiting for his friend to answer.
“He.. Hello..? Mirio..?”
“Hey,Tamaki,I have a question..”
“What’s wr.. Wrong?”
“Do you think there are people that want to be alone? Like, actually alone?”
“Huh..? Why?”
“Well.. I mean,(Last Name) lives in a big house like that, right? That means she has to have maids or something, and obviously it means that her parents are rich,so I don’t understand why she’s so.. Well, why she’s so blank, you know? I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen her smile, but nobody seems worried about that..”
“Is.. Is it important..?”
“Of course it’s important! If someone can’t smile, they’re unhappy!”
“That doesn’t automatically make someone unhappy.. She might just hate smiling..”
“Well..I guess you’re right, but that doesn’t mean I like it.. I wanna see her smile..”
“Why…?”
“I..” Mirio sighed and sat up in bed, trying to work out his thoughts. “When I was talking to her earlier, she said she finds her work ‘fulfilling’,but she didn’t call it ‘fun’.. And she’s quiet and stand-offish,but she didn’t snap at any of us when we were talking to her, right?”
“I guess..” Tamaki muttered, letting out a yawn as he checked the time. “Mirio,it’s almost two in the morning.. Go to bed..”
“Right,right.. Sorry,Tamaki.. Goodnight.” Mirio hung up the phone quickly after hearing his friend’s reply, sighing a little when he realized how badly he wanted to see (First Name).
Wonder if you do the same thing I do
Mirio went to the studio the next morning, wanting to see (First Name). Knocking on the door,he slid it open after hearing Higari. “Hey,i-”
“Morning. Do you need anything?” Higari interrupted him, continuing to work on the robot he was building carefully.
“Is (Last Name) in her office?” Mirio asked, looking towards the door.
“Yeah, but I’ll warn you now that it’s best not to speak to her for now,” Higari looked over at the blond, knowing his warning would be ignored when he saw the look of concern on his face. “Just go ahead and try to talk to her if you’d like.”
“Right..” Mirio walked over to the door and slid it open, ducking out of the way when a piece of metal was flung towards him.
“Get out,you ann-” (First Name) started to shout, falling silent when she realized it was Mirio. She groaned and pinched the bridge of her nose, letting out a sigh as she collapsed into her chair. “You really should’ve said it was you,you idiot..”
“What’s wrong with you?” Mirio asked, picking up the metal and walking into her office calmly. “Wake up on the wrong side of the bed?”
“Does it look like I had a pleasant morning to you?” (First Name) hissed out, before reminding herself that she couldn’t lose her temper here. “Sorry,I just.. I need a moment.”
“What happened? Something sucky?” Mirio asked, casting a glance at her before he looked around the office. Examining it now,he realized the walls were covered in papers with different costume designs and what materials they needed.
“I don’t wanna talk about it..” (First Name) turned her chair so she had her back to the boy, beginning to work on the documents that she had piled up. “So what did you need?”
“Nothing,really.. I just wanted to ask you some more questions,” Mirio admitted, finally looking back at her. “You’re fine with answering questions, right?”
“So long as they aren’t annoying,I shall provide as much information as I can for you,” (First Name) examined one of the documents, letting out a ‘tch’ when she realized she’d messed up one of the lines. Remembering they were in school, she casted a glance at the clock. “So long as you leave with plenty of time to spare so you make it to your homeroom on time,I’ll allow you to stay here for now,but don’t expect my full attention.”
“Right..” Mirio murmured, pausing for a moment as he tried to decide what to ask first. “What do your parents do for a living? You’ve got a big house,so are they heroes? Is that why you work on costumes and robots?”
(First Name) gritted her teeth for a second as she listened to his question, before returning to working. “My father owns hospitals all across Japan and America. My mother is a marketing director.”
“If you live in such a big house, why stay here until it’s dark out?” Mirio knew he was being nosy, but he couldn’t help it; he wanted to know everything he could about her. “And why even bother working on costumes and robots when you have the money to just buy them?”
(First Name)’s grip on her pencil tightened to the point it snapped, part of it clattering to the ground. She took a moment to compose herself, grabbing another pencil casually. “Togata, why do you want to become a hero?”
“Huh..? Because I want to save people,” Mirio explained, tilting his head to the side. “Why do you ask?”
“Do you understand the work it takes to create a costume?” (First Name) asked, spinning around to face him. “A prospective hero designs a costume full of things they’d like, but it’s the designer who creates it. We work with heroes to create costumes that fit within their budget and allow for more opportunities to save lives. A tiny miscalculation could cost hundreds of lives, and a designer must be careful in every calculation they make. Every measurement must be exact. The material must be thick enough to keep the hero wearing it safe, but also thin enough for them to feel comfortable,” She looked straight at his face, studying every detail of his face. “I work on costumes and support items that help people save people. I chose this path because I wanted to. Understand?”
“I understand it,but I just.. I just don’t get why you’re so adamant about not talking to people.. Yesterday,it was like everything you said was scripted..” Mirio looked down, unable to look directly at her as he spoke. “Haven’t you ever just had fun?”
“Is having fun something required?” (First Name) asked, sighing when she saw how distressed he looked. “Togata,I appreciate the concern you have for me,but you don’t really know enough about me to even understand what kind of world I live in.” She turned back to her desk, scribbling a few things down calmly. She didn’t want to continue this conversation.
“Then teach me about it instead of staying quiet! I wanna know more!” Mirio huffed, frustrated that she wasn’t opening up to him.
“You need to head to class,Togata. Goodbye.” (First Name) waved him off, relaxing once she heard the boy stomp out and slide her door shut. Leaning into her chair, she looked up at the ceiling for a minute, reminding herself that work came first.
Three days passed, and Mirio was sent to the library during one of his classes in order to do some research for a project. Walking into the book-filled room,he looked around. After handing the librarian his hall pass,he roamed around silently, his eyes widening when he spotted (First Name) at one of the tables. Walking over,he realized she was fast asleep with her head on a bunch of papers. There were over thirty rough sketches of different costume designs,as well as notes on which materials would be best for them. Each design was carefully planned and calculated, but he couldn’t understand what any of the numbers scribbled on the page meant. Turning his attention to the laptop in front of the sleeping girl,he tapped the space bar to see what she’d been looking at; a website with information on a man named Chizome Akaguro. He shut the laptop and shook (First Name)’s shoulder slightly, frowning when she didn’t wake up. “(Last Name),wake up..” He whispered softly, shaking her shoulder a little harder.
(First Name) didn’t wake up until Mirio began to shake her shoulder roughly, her eyes flying open as she looked around wildly. Taking in her surroundings, she calmed down once she realized where she was, covering her mouth as she yawned. “What do you want..?” She asked Mirio tiredly when she noticed him.
“I just thought you’d wanna be woken up by someone besides the librarian.. What are you doing in here, anyways? Don’t you have a class to be in?” Mirio tilted his head to the side slightly, sitting beside her for now.
“I’m supposed to be in my English class right now,but I already speak it fluently,so my teacher lets me do anything I want,” (First Name) admitted, gathering the papers into a neat stack. “And why are you in here?”
“Oh,I needed to get a book for a research paper I have to write,” Mirio struggled to recall the name for a moment, drumming his fingers on the table. “I think it was about a dude named Pokkoa? I can’t really remember it..”
“Pokkoa?” (First Name) paused for a moment and sighed, setting her laptop on top of the stack of papers and standing. Walking over to the shelves, she scanned them for a moment, recognizing almost all of the titles. Seeing the book she wanted, she reached up and grabbed it,carrying the heavy book over to Mirio and setting it down. “There.”
“How do you know the story?” Mirio looked at the book, shocked that it was the right story.
“I read it when I was younger. My house has two libraries,so I used to spend most of my time reading.” (First Name) said, grabbing her papers and laptop.
“Well thanks,(Last Name)!” Mirio beamed at her happily, his smile shining like the sun.
“It’s whatever.” (First Name) said, walking off calmly. After thanking the librarian for letting her sit in the library for a while, she left to return to the studio.
Two weeks passed, and Mirio was once again seeking (First Name)’s attention. After not catching a glimpse of her for a whole two weeks,he finally marched into the studio and straight to her office, sliding the door open immediately. “(Last Name),I came to brag!”
(First Name) jumped when she heard Mirio’s voice in her office, throwing the little robot she was working on in the air in surprise. Her eyes locked on it immediately, throwing herself out of her chair to catch it. Once it was safely in her hands, she sighed in relief and then turned to look at Mirio, glaring sharply. “Togata, you’d better have a good excuse for barging in here out of nowhere.”
“Sorry, sorry,I just wanted to tell you that I got a good grade on that paper I wrote!” Mirio confessed sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. “Oh,and I was wondering whether or not me and my friends could maybe use one of your libraries?”
“One of my libraries? Why?” (First Name) set the robot down before turning to look at him. “Surely you can check out any book you need from the school’s library.”
“I asked the librarian about it,but she said the school doesn’t have any books on ‘Ittichea the Molki Maid’,so I was thinking that you might have it..” Mirio explained, looking at the robot on the table curiously.
“Why can’t I just loan it to you instead of having you and your friends at my house?” (First Name) questioned, returning to adjusting the controls.
“All three of us need the book, and I doubt you’re actually willing to just hand out a book like that..” Mirio panicked a little when he saw how hesitant she looked. “We won’t do anything weird or anything,I promise! We’ll just take notes on the book in your library!”
(First Name) paused for a moment, before letting out a sigh. “If you promise to keep your friends quiet, fine. I don’t want to hear any shouting in the library.”
“Really?! You’re the best,(Last Name)!” Mirio complimented her with a giant grin. “We’ll wait for you outside this afternoon, then!”
“Right.” (First Name) continued to work on the robot, not looking forward to the end of the school day at all.
Mirio walked with Nejire and Tamaki to the gate happily after the school day was over, the trio waiting patiently. When he saw (First Name) walk out,he waved wildly and grinned. “(Last Name)! Come on,let’s hurry!”
(First Name) kept her pace calmly, internally scolding herself for agreeing to let them come over just to get Mirio to leave her alone while she was working on her robot. She walked right past them, not wanting to speak.
“Hey,(Last Name),thanks for letting us come over today! It’s a big help!” Nejire chattered as she followed the girl excitedly.
“We’ll definitely be quiet in the library, and we’ll be super nice!” Mirio promised as he walked with them.
“Ye.. Yeah..” Tamaki muttered nervously as he followed his friends.
(First Name) casted a glance at the trio, just shrugging and walking calmly. She didn’t want to speak,so she wouldn’t until it was necessary.
The walk to (First Name)’s house was full of Mirio and Nejire chatting with each-other energetically,Tamaki and (First Name) staying quiet.
“Welcome home, young miss!” The same maid greeted after (First Name) rang the buzzer.
“Call Kiyo and tell her to take them to the library of the east wing,” (First Name) ordered as she walked by the maid, before pausing for a moment. “Your new hair pin compliments you well.” She added before continuing her walk.
The maid waited until (First Name) was out of sight before letting out a squeal, absolutely overjoyed by the fact that her young miss had complimented her. “My little miss is truly too lovely..” She gushed, before remembering her orders. “Ah,right,I have to call Kiyo..” She muttered, grabbing the phone.
Mirio exchanged awkward glances with Tamaki and Nejire, surprised (First Name) wasn’t going to be in the library with them. When a woman with long gray hair tied back in a braid walked over after a while,Mirio waved at her awkwardly. “Hey,uh,(Last Name) said we could use the library for a book..”
“Follow me,” Kiyo ordered, looking them up and down before turning and walking along the path leading from the gate. “And please stay as a group.”
“Right..” Mirio muttered, the first to follow the maid. He looked around the front lawn, his eyes widening when he saw how giant it was. The green grass was perfectly even all the way across the lawn, and the evenly-planted bushes were all cut uniformly. Turning his attention towards the front of the giant house,he spotted a giant garden full of beautiful roses. “Woah..”
“Togata, don’t leave us..” Nejire followed him quickly, looking around curiously as well. Her usually bubbly personality vanished the second she crossed the gate’s threshold, the girl able to sense how combative the atmosphere was immediately; this wasn’t a house,it was a warzone. Tamaki trailed after them silently, absolutely terrified.
Kiyo led the way into the giant house calmly, another maid opening the door and holding it open for them. “Thank you,Kiyomi. Bring the snacks to the east wing library soon.”
“Yes,Ms.Kiyo..” Kiyomi curtsied deeply and then disappeared from sight.
Mirio followed Kiyo into the house hesitantly, the heavy atmosphere hitting him instantly. He looked around the entrance with wide eyes, amazed at how high the ceiling was. “This place is giant..”
“I can give you three a tour if you’d like.” Kiyo offered, turning to look at them.
“That’d be nice!” Nejire chirped, trying to sound as positive as possible.
“Welcome to the (Last Name) estate, then,” Kiyo smiled politely as she led them into the giant foyer. “And please excuse the maids as they work, the master of the house ordered another deep cleaning.”
Two giant marble staircases with golden railing spiraled up to the second floor, maids bustling up and down the stairs quickly as they worked. There was a circular glass table with two luxurious chairs situated around it set carefully between the staircases. Atop the table was a beautiful bouquet in an expensive vase, the red-and-white roses stunning. There were matching paintings hung along both of the stairways, making them perfectly mirrored.
“This.. This is terrifying..” Tamaki muttered, realizing he couldn’t face the wall in a place like this.
Mirio and Nejire just kept looking around in stunned silence, amazed at how everything was completely spotless.
“The master’s office and bedroom, the young miss’s bedroom, and the mistress’s office are the only rooms you three may not see. Let’s continue the tour.” Kiyo led the way through each of the immaculate and beautifully-decorated rooms calmly.
“I told you to stay out of here!” (First Name) shouted from one of the rooms suddenly.
“Was that (Last Name)..?” Mirio asked, looking around worriedly when Kiyo nodded.
“One of the new maids must have pestered the little miss..” Kiyo sighed, walking to a giant lab quickly.
(First Name)’s lab was the only messy part of the house the group was able to see. Piles of papers were stacked messily throughout the room, scattered pieces of metal and screws the girl had dropped while working. There were a few books she had set down and forgotten about ages ago, along with a dozen half-dressed mannequins lined up near the wall adjacent to the door; a few had pants, others had shirts, and two had nothing but a helmet. A few pairs of safety goggles were laying on the ground near a corner of the room, right by (First Name)’s welding tools, and a forge sat in the other corner of the room. On the floor near the table in the middle of the room was a bunch of scattered papers, along with a maid that was crying.
“Please, miss, don’t fire me! I didn’t mean to knock them over!” The maid sobbed, her whole body shaking.
“Just stay out of my work. I don’t care what anyone has told you, this room is off limits to maids except for Kiyo,” (First Name) told the woman, picking up the papers hastily. “This room isn’t fit for someone with a weak constitution like you.”
“Young miss, are you sure you want her to keep her job?” Kiyo asked, kneeling down and helping (First Name) pick the papers up calmly.
“Are you questioning my orders,Kiyo?” (First Name) challenged, her (Eye Color) gaze locking on her head maid. “If everyone who entered this room without permission were to be fired,we’d run out of staff. So long as you do your job properly, nothing bad should happen, correct?”
“Yes,young miss,” Kiyo trembled slightly underneath the girl’s gaze, unable to face her properly as she handed her the papers she had gathered. “Your friends have almost completed the tour of the house. I shall take them to the library now.”
“No,I’ll take them to the library. You are to lock the door and remind every single maid in the house that they are not to enter my lab under any circumstances, not even on father’s orders. Even if they smell a strange scent or believe I have collapsed, they are not to enter. Am I understood?” (First Name) rose to her feet, fixing the stack into a neat pile and setting it on the table calmly before walking over to her guests calmly. She didn’t need to wait for Kiyo’s reply; she knew the maid wouldn’t risk pissing her off by being careless. “Follow me.” She told the trio, leading them towards the library.
“How come you got so angry at that maid? She was crying..” Mirio stayed close behind her, something about the scene feeling wrong to him.
“In my lab, there are no maids allowed. She could have set something off by touching things carelessly, and in my haste to make sure she didn’t get hurt,I raised my voice.” (First Name) explained calmly, keeping her head high as she walked. Each maid they passed curtsied to them, keeping their heads low until the group was out of sight.
“So you were just worried about her?” Nejire asked, relaxing a little when she saw (First Name) nod. “I definitely thought you were gonna hit her or something! She looked terrified!”
“I don’t hit people unless they deserve it.” (First Name) continued leading the way through the hallway, keeping her gaze locked ahead.
Mirio was able to relax a little as well, looking around the hallway curiously. He paused when he saw a picture of a man shaking hands with the president of the Hero Public Safety Commission. “Who is this?”
(First Name) stopped and looked over at the picture Mirio was looking at. “Oh,that’s my father. Since his hospitals treat many of the people heroes save, and since many heroes end up there as well, they get along well.” She then continued walking to the library, the large door already propped open.
Mirio walked in and looked around, his eyes widening when he saw that there were a bunch of bookshelves built into the walls of the room. There was a large couch in the middle of the room,as well as a few chairs carefully placed around a large table. “Your parents are way too rich..”
“Correct,” (First Name) walked over to one of the bookshelves calmly, her eyes scanning over the titles, and then grabbed the book Mirio had asked her for, handing it to him. “While you three do your work,I’ll be working as well. If you need help with something, just tell me.”
“Thanks,(Last Name)!” Mirio smiled brightly at her as he held the heavy book.
“Yeah, thanks (Last Name)!” Nejire grinned at her, feeling at ease in the library.
“(First Name).” (First Name) stated calmly, picking a book out for herself.
“I’m sorry, what did you just say?” Mirio looked at her with wide eyes, not believing he had heard her correctly.
“My name is (First Name),so call me (First Name).”
And these four white walls they know more than my friends
They watch me type messages I'll never send
A year passed in what felt like a blur, with Mirio and his friends constantly visiting the (Last Name) estate to use the library and to pester (First Name).
“(First Name),(First Name)! It’s time to go! Let’s go have fun!” Mirio called out as he walked into her office, not bothering to knock anymore.
“Togata,it’s the first day. I have business to handle.” (First Name) continued to calculate the numbers for a suit she had spent most of the day on,sighing a little bit when she realized she’d missed a calculation somewhere.
“I’ve told you a hundred times to just call me by my first name already!” Mirio huffed and walked over, looking down at the suit she was designing. “It looks nice, but who’s it for?”
“And I’ve already told you a thousand times that I don’t call anyone by their first name,” (First Name) moved her attention to the calculator she was using, typing in a few numbers and then nodding before scribbling them down. “And it’s not for anyone,it’s just a project I’ve been working on today. Shouldn’t you be hurrying to meet up with Hado and Amajiki?”
“But why can’t you come? If it’s not something you have to rush, why keep working on it?” Mirio’s eyes scanned the paper as he stood beside her, already knowing the girl would turn him down; he had never once been able to convince her to stop working.
“(Last Name),go with him for once. You turn him down whenever he invites you out,” Higari ordered from the doorway, pausing when he saw the girl turn to glare at him. “If you don’t go,I’ll expose your little secret.”
(First Name) let out a ‘tch’ and stood up,fixing the papers into a neat stack and grabbing her bag. “You’re such an annoying old man..”
“And you’re such a reclusive teenager,” Higari retorted, before looking at Mirio. “Have fun dragging that brat around.”
“It’ll definitely be fun! But what’s this about a secret?” Mirio tilted his head to the side as he looked between the two curiously before sighing, realizing they wouldn’t let him in on it. “Come on,(First Name)! Let’s go!”
(First Name) just followed Mirio out of the room and into the hallway, annoyed that Higari had kicked her out already. Right as she took the first step down, she slipped, her eyes widening when she realized what was happening.
Mirio caught her arm and pulled her back to her feet, laughing a little. “You okay?” He asked, trying to hold the laughter in.
“I’m fine. Thank you for steadying me,” (First Name) looked at him, surprised he had caught her. Realizing he was on the verge of laughing, she narrowed her eyes. “What’s so funny about me almost falling?”
Mirio lost it at that, clutching his stomach as he laughed. “I.. I’m sorry,it’s just.. I’ve never seen you make a face like that! Usually, your face is all cold and everything, but you.. Your eyes were huge!”
(First Name) stared at him, letting out a sigh as she shook her head. “You truly are a child,Togata.”
“Sorry,sorry.. It was just cute!” Mirio grinned at her, scooping her up and running down the stairs while carrying her.
(First Name)’s brain shortcircuited for a second as she tried to understand what was happening. Upon realizing Mirio was running down the stairs while holding her,she panicked. “Togata, put me down this instant! This is highly unprofessional!”
Mirio casted a glance down at her as he paused for a second on the landing. Seeing her panicked expression for the first time only encouraged the boy to keep carrying her. He let out a chuckle as he ran down the stairs, being careful not to trip. “Well we’re not professionals yet!”
(First Name) gripped onto Togata tightly, terrified he would drop her. Once they were safely on the first floor, and the boy had put her down, she gripped onto his arm to keep herself from collapsing. “If you ever speak of this incident,or try to repeat it,I will beat you with a broom.”
“Oh come on,that was fun and you know it!” Mirio grinned, grabbing her hand and pulling her outside eagerly. “Now let’s go! We’re going to karaoke!”
(First Name) stumbled after Mirio and sighed, already wanting to go home in order to escape this torture. “I don’t do the whole ‘karaoke’ thing.”
“Well you can start today!” Mirio told her, dragging her over to Nejire and Tamaki energetically. “(First Name)’s coming today!”
“Yay! I wanna hang out with her more!” Nejire said, pouncing on the girl and nuzzling her cheek against hers childishly.
“Hado, please refrain from behaving like a cat.” (First Name) knew she was completely trapped by the blue-haired girl now; avoiding karaoke just became impossible.
Half an hour later, and (First Name) was sitting in a karaoke room with the trio. Nejire was singing a pop song enthusiastically when (First Name) excused herself, walking out of the room so she could go to the bathroom.
“I’ve gotta call my mom real quick!” Mirio said a couple of minutes later, walking out of the room and dialing his mother’s number so he could check in with her. After a quick conversation,he shut his phone off and started to head back to the room when he saw a familiar face. “Hey,Miyaki! Hey!” He called out, walking over to the girl energetically.
“Togata!?” Miyaki looked at him in shock, surprised the boy was there. “What are you doing in a place like this?”
“Oh,me and my friends came to sing karaoke together! It’s a lot of fun!” Mirio grinned at her, looking like an excited puppy. “What about you? Here with your friends?”
“Actually,I’m here from a mixer..” Miyaki confessed, rubbing the back of her neck. “It,uh.. It’s not going too well,so I came out here to take a breather..”
“Is everything alright?” Mirio asked, worried she might be getting harassed. “Are they rowdy or something?”
“Not really, but th-” Miyaki started to say, jumping when the door to one of the rooms was suddenly flung open.
“Oi,Miyaki, why’re you still out here? Kaiji is waiting on you!” Her friend,Kazuha, asked as she walked over.
“I don’t wanna go back in there,Kazu.. They’re being too handsy..” Miyaki looked down at her feet, nervous her friend would be angry.
“They’re from an all-boys school! Of course they’re handsy!” Kazuha grabbed her friend’s arm, starting to pull her back to the room. “Come on,you big baby!”
“She said she doesn’t want to go,” (First Name),who had come out of the bathroom only moments before, told Kazuha calmly after grabbing Miyaki’s other arm. “So you should respect her decisions and let go of her.”
“Let go of her,you weirdo! Who even are you?!” Kazuha snapped, trying to drag Miyaki towards the room.
“Kazu, let go.. It hurts..” Miyaki whimpered, trying to pull her arm out of her friend’s grip.
(First Name) let out a ‘tch’ as she tried to hold her temper back, biting her tongue to keep herself from shouting at the girl. “She told you to let go of her,did she not?”
The door to the room opened once again,a boy with black hair and green eyes peering out into the hallway. “Hey,Kazu, what’s taking so long?” He whined.
“Miyaki, you’re being a bitch! Just come on!” Kazuha shouted angrily, her eyes widening when she suddenly felt a sharp sting on her cheek. She released her friend immediately, her eyes landing on (First Name) when she realized she was the one to hit her.
(First Name) shook her hand out, glaring at both Kazuha and the boy in the doorway before turning to Miyaki. “Are you alright?”
“You fucking bitch!” Kazuha screeched, drawing her hand back to slap (First Name). Her eyes widened when she felt a tight grip on her arm, turning to look at Kaiji in shock. “Let go of me,she just hit me!”
“It’s nice to see you again,(First Name),” Kaiji said, before lowering himself into a deep bow as he kept his grip on Kazuha’s arm tight. “As a member of the Mitsuhei family, allow me to formally apologize for my companion’s disgraceful actions.”
(First Name) turned to look at the boy, trying to remember where she’d seen him from. Realizing she had met him the previous year at one of her father’s business parties, she couldn’t help but smirk. “Surely a member of the esteemed Mitsuhei family would never harass a girl?”
Kaiji’s face paled, the boy raising his head and looking at her in shock. “Y.. You’re not gonna do anything, right?”
“My father will surely be quite disgusted to find out one of his dear business partners raised a predator..” (First Name) stepped closer to the two, forcing back a cocky grin when she saw them both step back.
“Wh.. What do you want? I’ll give you anything..” Kaiji whimpered out, absolutely terrified of the girl. Spotting Mirio,he decided he had one shot at survival. “And what would your father do if he found out you were dating some pathetic wanna-be hero!?”
Within a moment,(First Name) had punched the boy right in the chin as hard as she could, knocking him out with a single hit. Shaking her knuckles out,she looked at Miyaki calmly. “Did you bring a bag with you?”
“Y.. Yeah..” Miyaki stuttered the words out, absolutely amazed at how much strength the punch had carried behind it. “It.. It’s in the room..”
“Come,” (First Name) ordered, walking to the room she had seen Kaiji walk out of earlier. “Grab it so we can leave.”
Mirio just stared at Kaiji’s body in shock, poking him lightly with his foot just to make sure he was alive. He reminded himself never to get on (First Name)’s bad side as he walked to their own karaoke room, opening the door and telling Nejire and Tamaki that they were leaving. “(First Name) just knocked a guy out,so we should probably leave.”
Nejire grabbed her bag and walked out of the room energetically, stopping when she saw Kaiji on the ground. “(First Name) knocked out a guy that huge? That’s so cool!”
“Sc.. scary..” Tamaki muttered as he stayed close behind Nejire.
That day,(First Name) and the big three escorted Miyaki all the way home. Later that night,Mirio stared at his phone screen as he laid in bed.
How did you knock that guy out earlier?
The blond shook his head, realizing he couldn’t just text (First Name) and ask her how she knocked the guy from earlier out like it was nothing. Deleting the message,he tried to think of another.
Did you wanna become friends with that girl?
He scolded himself when he realized how stupid his question was, deleting it once again. It took fifteen minutes to come up with another message.
Did you get angry for my sake earlier,or did he just piss you off in general?
Staring at his phone,Mirio tried to decide whether or not he should send the message. After a while,he deleted it and just rolled over to try and sleep.
This is the place that I just can't pretend to be alright
Mirio stared at his costume in the changing room the next day, absolutely shocked when he realized (First Name) had added a visor to it for some reason. “Tamaki, did (First Name) add anything onto your costume?”
“H.. huh..? No,why…?” Tamaki asked, looking over and spotting the visor. His eyes widened a little, before he looked away and covered his mouth to stop himself from laughing.
“What’s so funny?” Mirio asked, narrowing his eyes at his friend. “Do you know something?”
“Nejire.. Went over to her house the other day..” Tamaki held back his laughter, only a few little giggles slipping out. “And.. and.. Ask Nejire the rest..” He cracked up laughing, clutching his stomach as he did so.
“Seriously?” Mirio shook his head and sighed, putting his costume on and walking outside to ask Nejire about it.
Nejire, who was talking to one of their classmates energetically, beamed when she saw Mirio. She ran over to the blond with the giant grin on her face, clapping when she saw the visor. “Wah,it really does look good! (First Name) got super duper mad at me when I saw it!”
“What exactly happened when you went to (First Name)’s house the other day?” Mirio questioned, wondering what Tamaki had found too funny to even speak of.
“Oh,that? I walked in on (First Name) putting the finishing touches on the visor, and then when I asked her how she’s going to get it to you as a surprise, her eyes went huge! She looked absolutely silly! So I decided we could sneak in super early this morning, and then she nearly fell after grabbing your case! She said that Mr.Power Loader couldn’t know she’d made it for you because you hadn’t formally requested it!” Nejire explained excitedly, grinning up at him. “Isn’t it super cute?!”
“Then why does Tamaki find it so funny?” Mirio asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Oh,it’s ‘cause (First Name) threatened both of us super seriously! She was like ‘I’ll kick both your asses if you tell Togata’,and then she went ‘And I mean it!’ and it was super intimidating!” Nejire explained, grinning cheekily. “She’d make a scary hero!”
“Right..” Mirio trailed off, trying to force back a grin; he would never let (First Name) live this down.
That afternoon,Mirio walked into (First Name)’s office to find the girl fast asleep. He paused for a moment before shutting the door quietly, sneaking over to her quietly and looking at the papers her head was laying one. There were a few with random suits on them, but Mirio paused when he saw one of his new costume. Carefully sliding it away from her,he picked it up to examine it.
A visor is necessary to keep his face covered, especially his eyes. With a Quirk like his, people will try to shoot his head,so it needs to be bulletproof.
A reinforced shoulder pad for both his shoulders, since he’s been complaining about how bad his back has been feeling after he trains.
A pair of gloves that properly fit him and will protect his hands from any hot materials he touches. Important for his health!
And a ca
Mirio quietly chuckled to himself as he read her notes, realizing (First Name) had probably fallen asleep before she could even finish writing it. Setting the paper back on the desk,he looked down at her, noting how a few strands of hair had fallen into her face. He carefully tucked them back into place, deciding to let her sleep for now. Grabbing the spare chair she had added to her office,he sat down and grabbed one of her research notebooks, opening it to the front page and looking over it with curious eyes.
For Mirio, the most important and challenging aspect of creating his costume was changing every strand of hair into fabric. It was a pleasant experience, but I could not use my Quirk to create a helmet that could slip through walls since it would have changed too many of the DNA properties of the hair used to create his costume. I need to keep studying both Mirio and his costume to see if I can further enhance his abilities.
For Tamaki, the most important and challenging aspect of creating his costume was properly creating a hood that would keep him from seeing people while he’s working. I believe having sandals instead of close-toed shoes would enhance his abilities by giving him the option of using his feet in battle as well.
For Nejire, the most important and challenging aspect of creating her costume was creating the spirals. For them to be easily utilized in battle,I should consider changing the material I made them out of. Certain materials would be better.
Mirio looked down at (First Name),shaking his head and chuckling softly. “You really do overthink everything.. Studying us even outside of school, continuing to study different types of materials to enhance our Quirks, and even breaking protocol to try and keep us safer.. You’re way too cute..”
Shutting the notebook,Mirio rose to his feet and walked out of the room, deciding it was time he went home with his friends. Shutting the door behind himself,he muttered a quiet ‘goodnight’ and left.
Is your bedroom ceiling bored like mine?
Of you staring at it all the time
(First Name) stared up at her ceiling in silence, studying the intricate patterns that had been painted on there. Raising her hand and spreading her fingers apart, she studied how they looked, realizing it had been years since she had last stayed home from school for no real reason. Wiggling her fingers, she stared at how weird they looked; her father and mother’s hands had always been calloused from holding pens, but her own hands were calloused, bruised, and scarred from using her tools.
Slowly lowering her hand,(First Name) rolled over in bed and looked at her phone when she felt it buzz. Checking who had sent her a text, she realized Mirio had sent a picture of his brand new provisional license. Jumping out of bed,the girl slipped her shoes on and ran out of her room, shouting Kiyo’s name.
“What’s wrong, young miss?!” The maid asked as she hurried out of her own room.
“Mirio and the others got their provisional licenses! They actually got them!” (First Name) shoved the phone in her maid’s hands, unable to fight back a huge grin. “They seriously got them,Kiyo! Isn’t that great?!”
“No way, really?!” Kiyo gripped the phone, looking down at the picture before letting out a squeal. “Ah,they really did! I’m so proud!”
“We have to throw a party for them! We definitely have to throw a party for them! This is amazing!” Kiyomi called out as she hurried up the stairs. “Miss,we definitely have to throw them a party here! The fact they were able to get their provisional licenses on their first try is amazing!”
“I don’t know about throwing a party, but I should definitely invite them over as a reward..” (First Name) started to think of what they would need for a party, realizing it would all be rather simple. “Actually, let’s throw a party after all.. They deserve one.”
“I’ll call the other maids and we’ll set up an exquisite party for them, young miss! They’ll definitely be happy!” Kiyo returned the phone, ruffling her young miss’s hair and then hurrying down the stairs. “Let’s go,Kiyomi!”
“Right!” Kiyomi replied, following the head maid eagerly.
(First Name) stood at the top of the stairs, reaching up and putting her hand where Kiyomi’s had been only moments before. Her grin faded into a gentle smile as she felt how warm the affection had been. Heading back to her room, she sat down on her bed and texted Mirio a simple congratulations.
Three days was all it took for the maids to set up a party, and (First Name) invited her friends over casually.
“(First Name),how come you’re inviting us over?” Mirio asked as he followed her inside the mansion with his friends close behind.
“You three passed your provisional licensing exam on the first try,and since you three seem to enjoy coming here to pester me,I thought this would be a reward.” (First Name) replied, walking to the banquet hall and shoving the door open with ease.
“Surprise!” A group of maids shouted as they pulled the strings to confetti poppers.
Mirio’s eyes widened as the confetti rained down on him and his friends, looking around the giant hall in shock. There were all sorts of tables set up with all kinds of snacks and expensive foods, and four different colored chairs set around a table in the middle of the room. There was a dark blue chair that had Tamaki’s name engraved,a soft purple one with Nejire’s name engraved,a (Favorite Color) one with (First Name)’s name engraved, and a golden one with his own name engraved. “What is all of this for..?”
“It’s obviously for us! Since we passed our provisional licensing exam!” Nejire shouted, running into the room and laughing as she spun around childishly. “This is so cool!”
“It’s.. It’s scary..” Tamaki muttered anxiously, looking around the room in terror.
“Is that seriously what it’s for?” Mirio looked at (First Name),shock filling him when he saw the girl nod. He couldn’t help but grin, absolutely amazed that the ‘oh-so-stoic’ (First Name) had thrown them a party. “Thank you..”
“Of course..” (First Name) walked over to the table, taking a seat in her chair. “Come, take a seat.”
“What about the food?” Nejire asked energetically as she sat down in her chair, happy that it had lilies engraved around her name.
“And.. And what about.. The wall?” Tamaki anxiously sat in his own chair, wanting to retreat to a corner to hide. He noticed that his own chair had butterflies engraved around his name, but he was more focused on wanting to hide.
“This place is awesome..” Mirio muttered as he sat in his own seat. Realizing that his friends had specialized things engraved around their names,he turned to look at his own, chuckling when he saw a laughing theater mask.
“I’ll answer your questions after this,” (First Name) faced them, clearing her throat as she worked up the bravery required to speak. “Nejire,Tamaki,Mirio.. Congratulations on earning your provisional hero licenses.”
Nejire froze up,her eyes widening when she realized (First Name) had called her by her first name. Jumping out of her chair, she launched herself at her friend, both of them falling to the floor as Nejire wrapped her arms around her. “Thank you,(First Name)!”
Mirio couldn’t help but laugh when he saw both girls fall to the floor, standing up and walking over. “Nejire, you gotta get off of her so I can set her chair upright.”
“No way! I’m staying here forever!” Nejire snapped childishly, gripping tighter onto (First Name) and grinning. “I love (First Name)!”
(First Name) sat there silently, before realizing how warm it felt. She slowly wrapped her arms around Nejire, hugging the girl back for the first time. “I’m genuinely happy for you guys.”
“Tha.. Thanks,(First Name).” Tamaki stammered out,not surprised by how childish Nejire was; he’d noticed a while ago just how badly both his friends wanted (First Name) to praise them for earning their licenses.
After a while,Nejire finally let go of (First Name) and Mirio sat her upright in her chair before patting her head. They spent the rest of the night goofing off while they chowed down on all sorts of expensive foods, though (First Name) was nearly as quiet as Tamaki was while Mirio and Nejire rambled about all sorts of things.
'Cause it's seen so many nights where I cry and I yell at the sky
For not telling you how I feel
(First Name) was curled up in her room when she was suddenly shaken awake by a panicked Kiyo. Yawning and sitting up in bed tiredly, she looked at the maid in confusion. “What’s wrong,Kiyo..?”
“Master Togata was badly injured during his internship with Sir Nighteye!” Kiyo frantically told her, pulling her out of the bed. “I received a call from Master Tamaki alerting me that he was taken to a hospital near the Nighteye agency!”
“What?!” (First Name) shouted, panicking a little as she fully came to her senses. She cursed as she tried to think of whether she should take the train or a car to get there faster. “Call one of father’s fastest cars and tell the driver to be ready within five minutes.”
“Yes,young miss!” Kiyo rushed off to do as ordered, leaving her lady to get dressed.
While the train would have taken at least an hour to make it to the hospital,(First Name) arrived at the hospital in only forty-five minutes. Rushing into the hospital, she asked the attendant at the desk what room Mirio was in before rushing off.
“Mirio?! Mirio, are you alright!?” (First Name) shouted as she threw the door to his room open, her hair a mess. Seeing the boy sitting in the hospital bed with a few bruises on his cheek and his leg wrapped up,she rushed over to him, absolutely terrified. “How bad is it?!”
“Woah, woah,(First Name),calm down..” Mirio chuckled a little, surprised at how worried she seemed. “I’m not injured badly or anything,I just got caught off guard and didn’t use my Quirk fast enough.”
“But Tamaki called Kiyo and told her you were injured badly..” (First Name) looked at his leg worriedly, unwrapping the bandages wrapped around his ankle. Seeing that his ankle was only bruised, the adrenaline finally wore off,the girl collapsing into a chair. “Fuck,I was gonna have a heart attack.. What happened?”
“I screwed up pretty badly since I was trying to read my opponent’s moves..” Mirio admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. “And I’m sorry that I ripped my costume again..”
“Do you think I care about your costume right now? You could’ve been seriously injured, you idiot! Focus on your health above all else!” (First Name) snapped, unable to keep her composure. “Your ankle’s only a little swollen,so it’s not broken, but you could’ve had a permanent injury or something..”
“I promise I was being careful! It’s ‘cause Sir has been trying to train me to read people, and I got over-confident and tried to take on a villain on my own like an idiot..” Mirio looked down, feeling bad that he had made her worry so much; out of all the expressions Mirio wanted to see on (First Name)’s face, fear had never been one of them.
“How come you look so down,Lemillion?” Mirai asked as he walked in,not noticing (First Name) at first. Seeing that Mirio wasn’t even looking at him,his gaze traveled to where the hero-in-training was looking, his eyes widening when he saw (First Name). “A member of the (Last Name) family?”
“It’s nice to see you again,Mr.Sasaki,” (First Name) politely lowered her head to the man, before raising it and looking up at him. “I’d like a word with you if you don’t mind.”
“Lemillion moved on my orders, but he moved badly. Please forgive me for my failures as a teacher.” Mirai apologized, lowering his head to the woman.
Mirio’s eyes widened when he saw his mentor lower his head, panicking a little. “(First Name),he didn’t do anything wrong! It was my fault!”
“Mr.Sasaki, please raise your head. So long as you assure me that you won’t be careless and promise to take care of Mirio,I will tell father to continue giving you support,” (First Name) told the man, waving his apology off. “Please teach him to become a hero who can save a million people with a smile.”
“Right..” Mirai cleared his throat and raised his head,a little embarrassed he had been so hasty to lower himself in front of a teenager. “Forgive my insolence here, but you’re on a first name basis with Lemillion?”
“Is that weird?” Mirio asked, tilting his head to the side; his mentor sounded confused, and he didn’t really understand why Mirai was so afraid of (First Name).
“I am on a first name basis with Mirio,Tamaki, and Nejire,” (First Name) told Mirai, before turning her attention to Mirio. “My hesitance to refer to you and the others that way was not purely because of formalities. In the (Last Name) family, calling someone by their first name signifies a willingness to give all of your support to them. It also comes with a promise to give them any financial support they may need.”
“Seriously?” Mirio was amazed that (First Name) was willing to go that far for him and his friends, the boy grinning when she nodded. “And you chose me,Nejire, and Tamaki for something that important?”
“Of course. I chose Nejire because she is a kind person who will one day need my support to accomplish her dreams, and I chose Tamaki because I want to support him in becoming a great hero despite his anxieties.” (First Name) looked right at Mirio, seeming completely calm.
“And why’d you choose me?” Mirio asked, eager to hear her answer.
(First Name) opened her mouth to answer, but she fell silent when she felt her phone buzz. Seeing that her father had ordered her to return home immediately, she stood up. “Sorry, but I must get going. Father is angry that I took one of his expensive cars.. See you later,Mirio.”
“Right..” Mirio sighed as he watched her leave, sad that she was leaving so soon. After the door was shut,he looked at Mirai. “Sir,why are you so afraid of (First Name)?”
“I did business with her parents for a while, and they’re amazing.. The (Last Name) family is famous for being extremely prideful when it comes to their jobs, and they don’t tolerate working with people they consider unworthy..” Mirai sat down, looking at Mirio. “I worked with her parents for six years, and not once did I hear either of them call each-other by their first names, nor did they address anyone else by their first names.. It’s truly considered sacred to their family,so much so that spouses tend to only refer to each-other as pet names..”
“I never knew it was such a big deal..” Mirio admitted, extremely happy that (First Name) had given him such a great honor.
“How’d you get her to call you by your first name? And how’d you get her to give you her name?” Mirai asked, wanting to know how Mirio had achieved such an impossible goal.
“I kinda just hung out with her a lot,and she eventually gave us her first name.. She called me by my first name for the first time back when I earned my provisional hero license,though..” Mirio explained, chuckling at how shocked his mentor looked. “Have you met her before?”
“Of course I’ve met her before, even All Might has met her.. She was this straight-faced kid back when I met her,though.. I’d never met a child that stoic before..” Mirai recalled, tilting his head back as he tried to remember the exact date. “It was at a party,I believe.. Some sort of Christmas party or something.. I only really remember it because I thought it was weird that not even All Might could make that child speak. I was under the impression that she had been a mute, but she spoke fluently to both her parents and a maid, and her parents seemed unfazed when she turned a glass table into wood.”
“(First Name) used her Quirk at a party?” Mirio raised an eyebrow, not really believing the well-mannered girl would do such a thing. “Did she speak the same way she does now?”
“Yeah, she did.. I’ve never seen a child address their parents using such large words, but she told them that she was ‘unimpressed with those in attendance’,” Mirai chuckled and shook his head. “You’re truly fit to be the future number one hero with a girl like that backing you. Good job,Lemillion.”
“I’m not using her for money or anything,Sir.. (First Name) and I are friends,I don’t want that to change..” Mirio shook his head, looking down. “I don’t want her to feel like she has to do anything besides be herself..”
“The (Last Name) family is a family that only finds values in those they consider useful,Lemillion. You should only think of her as an asset,” Mirai told him, looking over when he heard the door open and spotted Chiyo. “Welcome,Recovery Girl.”
“Troublesome boys..” Chiyo muttered, walking over and pressing a kiss to Mirio’s cheek to heal up his injuries. “Be more careful from now on,Mr.Togata. I’m old,so it’s not as easy to get around now.”
“Thank you,ma’am!” Mirio grinned at her, climbing out of bed and stretching out. For now,he decided he would just ignore what his mentor had said; the (First Name) he had spent the last two years with wasn’t just an ‘asset’,she was a friend he could always rely on.
That night, after returning home,Mirio sat with his back against the wall. His knees pulled to his chest, the blond stare out at the darkness outside of his window. “(First Name)’s not like what Sir said, right? She’s a good person..” He told himself, before burying his face in his knees. “(First Name)’s just (First Name),isn’t she? She would never use me like that ‘cause we’re friends..”
Suddenly,Mirio raised his head, realizing (First Name) had never once introduced him to anyone in her family. “I bet she’s ashamed of hanging out with people like us.. And that she’d rather have people in her own world..”
In her room,(First Name) was busy paying Mirio’s hospital bill while Kiyo quizzed her on the different materials she would need to repair Mirio’s helmet.
Waking up bright and early the next morning,(First Name) ran to U.A. so she could fix Mirio’s costume before he’d need it for his internship later in the day. Grabbing the case, she carried it to her office and laid it out on her empty table. She fixed the visor first, before repairing the rest of his costume.
While working,(First Name) was expecting Mirio to come in any minute; he always bugged her when she needed to repair his costume.
After a while, she gave up on him coming to pick up the fixed costume, shoving it in the case and walking to Class 2-A’s classroom to give it back to the teacher.
After knocking on the door,(First Name) pulled it open and looked inside curiously, her eyes widening when she saw Mirio talking to Nejire and a few of his other classmates happily. Pushing away the negative feeling that flooded into her,she walked over to the blond and set the case on his desk. “Mirio, your costume is fixed.”
“Ah,thanks (First Name)..” Mirio told her, before turning back to the girl he was talking to. He couldn’t really bring himself to properly face (First Name) right now.
“Who is that girl,Mirio? She looks like a weirdo..” The girl asked, staring at (First Name). “She’s definitely a weirdo..”
Mirio laughed a little,waving her off. “You shouldn’t say that,Minami! She’s a good person!”
(First Name) clenched her fists, anger trickling into her. Seeing how Mirio wouldn’t even cast a glance in her direction, she turned away, her eyes widening when a boy stepped in front of her. “May I help you with something?” She asked, trying her best to be polite.
“What class are you in?” The boy,Yuan, asked her with a smirk.
(First Name) narrowed her eyes a little, staring up at the boy. “I’m in Class 2-F. Why?”
“Togata called you (First Name),right? Why not come on a date with me?” Yuan asked, flirting with her just like he flirted with the girls in his own class.
(First Name)’s entire demeanor darkened, unable to hold her temper back. Drawing her fist back, she punched the boy right in the jaw as hard as she could, watching as he landed on the floor. “That felt good..” She muttered, shaking her hand out as she relaxed.
“Ms.(Last Name),such behavior isn’t tolerated in this school! Report to the principal immediately!” The teacher shouted, rushing over to see if Yuan was badly injured.
“But such perversion is allowed?” (First Name) asked the teacher, before deciding it wasn’t worth starting a giant argument over. Stomping out of the room, she casted a glance back to see that Mirio was staring at her in shock. Clenching her jaw,she turned away from the blond and slammed the door shut behind her.
That night, after getting sent home early from school for punching another student outside of training,(First Name) sat in bed with her back against her headboard. Staring at the mirror attached to her dresser that was adjacent to her bed,she looked at her reflection. “Did I do something to make Mirio hate me..? Why is he looking at me like that now..?” She asked herself quietly, her eyes filling with tears. “I hate it..”
“Young miss, are you alright?” Kiyo called out as she knocked on the girl’s door; since her young miss had been sent to bed without dinner as punishment, she was worried she would feel like her father was angry with her. “Your parents love you very much, young miss,so please don’t think he’s angry with you..”
“I’m fine,Kiyo. Please just leave me be so I may properly reflect on my actions.” (First Name) called out, pulling her knees closer as she listened to Kiyo’s footsteps grow distant as the maid left.
(First Name) went back to staring at her reflection, sniffling as she wiped at her eyes; she had no reason to cry. Even if Mirio didn’t like her anymore, she didn’t need friends. She would be fine on her own again. “It’s nothing to cry over, you idiot.. You don’t need friends, you just need people to like your work.. Work is all that matters..” She told herself, hiding her face in her knees as she tried not to cry.
(First Name)’s sadness turned to frustration when she remembered how shocked Mirio had looked after seeing her punch that idiot from earlier; he knew how her family considered their first names sacred,so he should’ve expected it. Mirio should have spoken up for her.
Sliding out of bed,(First Name) walked out to her balcony. Shutting the door behind her,she gripped the railing and screamed as loud as she could to relieve some of her bottled-up emotions. Staring out into the darkness, she realized she was just a desolate star. If Mirio and Nejire were the sun,and Tamaki was the moon, then she was nothing but a lonely star.
Is your bedroom ceiling bored
Like mine?
Mirio and (First Name) both kept avoiding each-other after she returned to school the next day,the girl keeping her office locked throughout the day.
“Togata, what’s wrong with you? How come you haven’t been talking to (First Name)?” Nejire asked as they walked through the hallway. It had only been a week, but it felt like an eternity to her.
“We’re just busy is all. She’s working on a project.” Mirio lied as he continued walking. He didn’t want to get any more attached to someone who could just be using him as a guinea pig for her stupid costume experiments.
On the way back to their classroom, the group heard a loud crash. The trio rushed to see what had happened,Mirio panicking when he saw smoke coming from the Costume Development Studio.
“I told you not to use that, you idiot!” Higari shouted at (First Name),absolutely livid that she hadn’t listened to him.
“Sorry..” (First Name) muttered, covered in oil. Part of her face had been cut from the robot that had decided to attack her,but the girl didn’t really care; she was just tired. “I’ll clean it all up..”
“Of course you are! You could’ve gotten yourself killed had I not broken that thing!” Higari shouted at her, sighing as he tried to calm himself down. “Your father would kill me if you got any permanent injuries, and you would have to stop working!”
“I’m sorry,sir..” (First Name) got on her knees, starting to pick up a few of the bolts that had scattered to the floor.
“What happened?” Mirio asked Higari, worried about how soulless (First Name) looked. “Is she okay?”
“She’s got minor injuries, but she’ll be fine..” Higari sighed, walking out into the hallway to properly talk to the trio. “She’s been acting weird for a few days now,and today she decided to flip on one of the robots she had created to assist in creating suits, but the program bugged and it attacked her. If I hadn’t been close enough to destroy it,she could’ve been killed.”
“Is that what her big project is?” Nejire asked, tilting her head to the side as she peered inside the room curiously.
“Big project..? (Last Name) doesn’t have any projects going on right now besides her usual research from what I know.. Has she been working on a project at home or something? She’s not been acting like herself..” Higari sighed a little, wondering what Nejire was talking about.
“Yeah,she’s.. She’s working on a thing..” Mirio trailed off, frowning as he watched (First Name) pick up the destroyed robot. “She looks like she did last year..”
“For now, nobody’s allowed in the studio. Please come to the room next door if you need help for the next day or two.” Higari announced, not willing to help (First Name) clean up the mess she’d created.
“Yes,sir.” The trio replied in unison before walking off since they needed to get to class.
That night,Mirio stared up at his ceiling in silence, wondering what was wrong with (First Name); there was no way she looked so empty inside just because he and his friends hadn’t spoken to her, right? Sighing,he shook the thought of his head, wondering what she was doing.
(First Name) stared out her window silently, her fingers wrapped up from picking up the hot screws and bolts earlier. Since the robot had been overheated and malfunctioned, the metal had been hot. Wondering why she was too useless to even do work properly, she looked up at the ceiling silently. Her father had called the family doctor earlier, but the man wouldn’t arrive until she was out of school the following day.
I get up early and talk to the sun
I ask her for guidance but she ain't got none
Mirio woke up at four in the morning the following day, sighing as he tried to decide what to do. Realizing he was being childish by avoiding (First Name) just because of bad thoughts,he grabbed his phone and called Nejire.
“Hello..?” Nejire asked tiredly as she picked up the phone, letting out a yawn. “Mirio..? What’s wrong?”
“I.. What should I do if I screwed things up with (First Name)?” Mirio hesitantly questioned.
“What do you mean?” Nejire asked sleepily, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. “What happened?”
“When I got injured a while ago,Sir told me that (First Name)’s family only finds value in people they consider useful, and I just.. I started thinking that maybe (First Name) was just using us,you know?” Mirio confessed, looking down at his hand.
“Seriously? What would (First Name) even get from us?” Nejire battled back another yawn, rubbing her eyes again.
“In her notebook, she was making notes on us and our suits,so she’s getting information..” Mirio sighed, realizing how ridiculous his words sounded now that he said them aloud. “What do I do to fix things?”
“I dunno.. Just apologize..” Nejire started to doze off again, too comfortable and tired to pay much attention. “Nighty night..”
“Nejire, hey! Nej-” Mirio groaned when he realized the girl had hung up on him, sighing as he tried to think of what to do.
Despite his eventual decision to apologize to (First Name) and confess what had made him act strangely in the first place,(First Name) never showed up to school the next day.
Marching up to the gate that afternoon,Mirio was shocked when the maid refused to let him in. “How come I can’t come in?”
“Ms.Kiyo gave me strict orders to discontinue any and all visits from outsiders. She said the young miss was seen by the night shift screaming on her balcony, which she has only done a handful of times,” The maid explained, sighing as she looked at him. “If you wish to speak to her further, you must approach the master of the house and ask for permission to contact her.”
“Right..” Mirio rolled his eyes, knowing the maid was just doing her job but still feeling frustrated. “Call him here, then.”
“Are you serious? You really wanna see our master?” The maid gawked at him when he nodded, clearing her throat and shaking her head. “I recommend you avoid doing such a thing, master Mirio.. The master is not a kind man..”
“Either call him here or let me go in to meet (First Name).” Mirio demanded, not planning on moving an inch.
“Very well..” The maid relented, clearing her throat before calling the main house to speak to Kiyo. When the head maid gave her permission to let Mirio in,she opened the gate for the boy.
“Thank you..” Mirio told her, walking straight to (First Name)’s front door. Knocking on the door, smiling when Kiyo answered the door. “Hey,Kiyo, what’s going on? Why am I banned?”
“Follow me.” Kiyo ordered him coldly, turning her back on him and walking through the hall briskly with Mirio hot on her heels.
Arriving at a giant oak door,Mirio felt his blood run cold; beyond the door was the office that belonged to (First Name)’s father. “Do I just knock..?”
“Master,I’ve brought Togata.” Kiyo announced as she knocked on the door politely.
A pause, and then a cold answer. “The boy may enter, but you may not. Check on my little lovebug.”
Mirio trembled a little as he stood in front of the door, watching as Kiyo hurried off. Finally working up the courage,he pushed the door open and stepped inside, his eyes examining the room quickly. There was a bookplace lining one of the walls,a pair of windows half-covered by dark blue curtains,a fireplace with a few chairs around it,and a giant man sitting at a giant desk. “Hello,sir..” He greeted awkwardly.
“You have the guts to show your face here after causing my daughter distress?” (Father’s Name) asked coldly, narrowing his (Eye Color) eyes at the terrified teen. “Sit,boy.” He ordered, nodding to the chair on the other side of his desk.
Mirio walked over to the desk, his arms moving with his legs; he wanted to run. Sitting down,he looked at the man and gulped. “I.. I came to apologize to (First Name)..”
“Don’t you dare call her that, you scum!” (Father’s Name)’s voice boomed, echoing in the large office. “The fact that she put her faith in a mere boy disgusts me!”
“I’m sorry,sir..” Mirio lowered his head, realizing he couldn’t speak to the man like this. “What.. What exactly should I call her, then?”
“A boy like you should only refer to her as (Last Name),and you should be thanking the stars I’m even allowing you to call her that.” (Father’s Name) glared at the boy harshly, his gaze softening suddenly when the door opened.
Mirio turned to look at who was at the door, his eyes widening when he saw a woman that looked like an older (First Name). “Are you (First Name)..” He started to say, before remembering what the man across the desk had told him. “I mean, are you (Last Name)’s mother?”
“Honey,is this the boy that lovebug gave her name to?” (Mother’s Name) asked her husband, walking right by Mirio and wrapping her arms around her husband’s shoulders so she was hugging him from behind.
“Indeed. Quite a pitiful boy, correct?” (Father’s Name) asked his wife, not bothering to hide the disgust he felt towards Mirio.
“Our poor little lovebug, giving her name to such a deplorable man..” (Mother’s Name) sighed, shaking her head as she narrowed her (Eye Color) eyes at Mirio.
Mirio felt chills at the woman’s glare, knowing fully well that both of them wanted him gone. “I..” He clenched his fists, before lowering his head. “I’m sorry that someone like me is the one (Last Name) chose as a friend, but I wanted to explain myself to her.. I screwed up and pushed her away because I was insecure..”
“And you believe kind words are enough to recover a wounded relationship?” (Mother’s Name) questioned, leaning further across her husband’s shoulder to intimidate Mirio even more. “Your relationship with our lovebug was quite a deplorable one from the beginning, but we tolerated your presence because she took care of her health better. Now,I understand that her working less in order to spend more time with a child like you truly wasn’t worth the few benefits she gained from your presence.”
“Additionally,I have come to realize that your friendship with our lovebug was truly nothing but hollow words. She,who attacked a member of the Mitsuhei family whilst on an outing with you and your little friends, was willing to compromise on our family rules. For our lovebug, who is a member of our family, attacking someone is akin to betraying the business relationship that I had spent a decade building between our family and the Mitsuhei family. When I asked her about it,she simply told me the bratty boy had harassed a girl and she couldn’t stand by and watch it. Now,if you’re some brave ‘hero-in-training’,why was it our lovebug that moved first?”
Mirio clenched his fists, trembling in his seat; he didn’t have an excuse for himself. “I want her to be happy, and she.. She looked empty when she was working last ye-”
The heavy oak door was flung open suddenly,(First Name) stomping in. She was unsteady on her feet, but she couldn’t have stayed in bed after hearing that Mirio was in the same room as her parents. “Father, mother, why are you all having an audience with a partner of mine?” She asked coldly, making her way to the desk.
“Lovebug, you should be in bed. You’ve got a fever, and your injuries have yet to be healed,” (Father’s Name) told her, sighing when he saw the suppressed rage in his daughter’s eyes. “As for why we’re having an audience with this boy,it’s because he is unworthy of being a partner attached to our family.”
“I’m the one to decide whether he’s good enough or not,” (First Name) snapped, wincing a little when her headache only grew worse. “Mirio,Nejire, and Tamaki have done nothing wrong. I was infuriated by my own inadequacies in the ‘relationship’ department,as I cannot properly convey my emotions to those I treasure.”
“(First Name),you should go to bed..” Mirio rose to his feet, picking her up gently. “I’m gonna take her to her room, and then I’ll leave.” He told her parents, carrying her out before they could answer.
“Let go of me,you idiot.. You’ll get sick..” (First Name) turned her face away from him, struggling against him weakly.
“You came to save me,didn’t you?” Mirio asked, carrying her through the long hallways. “Even though you’re sick, and even though I’ve been an asshole and been avoiding you,you came to save me from your parents.”
“Why are you here? To say you hate me?” (First Name) asked, looking down at the floor. “I don’t know what I did,but please don’t leave me alone.. I don’t like it..”
“(First Name)?” Mirio asked softly, looking down at her in shock. “You really think I hate you?”
“Why else would you start avoiding me?” (First Name) looked up at him,her headache reminding her that she was sick and she shouldn’t look at him. Looking away, she stared at the floor once again.
“I.. I realized that we live in completely different worlds, and I got scared.. Your family is extremely rich, and you have a bright future ahead of you,but I’m from a normal family and I’m pursuing a dangerous career..” Mirio’s hold on her tightened as he walked, passing by a few maids calmly. “And I thought, for just a while, that it meant we were too different from each-other for us to be friends, and I got so scared of that idea that I couldn’t even face you.. So I wanted to apologize to you for being an idiot.. Seeing your parents made me understand you’re really no different than me.”
(First Name) just stared at the floor, before laying her head against Mirio’s chest quietly and listening to his heartbeat. “How did meeting my parents change anything?”
“I realized that you’re not like them at all,” Mirio looked down at her,his cheeks the tiniest bit pink. “Because the (First Name) that your parents tried to raise you to become isn’t who you are. You’re alway cautious, and you love your work, but you love something even more.”
“Which is?” (First Name) asked, looking up at him curiously. Taking in every detail of his face, she realized exactly how much Mirio had grown over the last year.
“You love helping people. Your creations, your attitude, all of it is to help others. You act like you don’t like you hate people, but you’ve never once walked by someone who was in trouble,” Mirio grinned down at her, before walking up the stairs and carrying her to her room. “And I know how much thought you put into everything you do. You spend all of your time studying so you can create suits that can help heroes save people, and I think that’s amazing.”
(First Name) felt her cheeks heat up,though she wasn’t sure whether it was because of the fever or her embarrassment. She let go of him when he set her on her bed, snuggling into the silk sheets and relaxing. When he stepped away from her bed,she grabbed his hand and pulled him back weakly, putting his hand on her head. “Can you stay until I fall asleep?” She asked, knowing it was a childish request.
Mirio stared down at her, thinking she was absolutely adorable. “Of course I’ll stay until you’re asleep..” He told her, sitting down on the edge of her bed and smiling down at her.
An hour passed before Mirio finally left the (Last Name) estate,a giant grin on his face as he walked home alone.
How am I supposed to know you're not the one?
I'm begging to the mirror 'cause I cannot find an answer
The beginning of their third year at U.A. together,(First Name) texted Mirio and told him to come to her office the morning of the first day.
Walking into (First Name)’s office,Mirio froze when he saw his costume on a mannequin, his eyes locking on the new addition; a red cape. “You added a cape?”
“Of course I added a cape. I was gonna add it last year, but I thought it’d be better to wait until this year. You’ll look like a real hero, right?” (First Name) fought back a smile, keeping her expression neutral as she looked at him.
“Why do I need a cape, though?” Mirio asked, walking over and touching the fabric; it felt like silk.
“To wrap up the people you wanna protect,” (First Name) replied casually, before realizing how silly her reasoning was. “It can also serve to distract villains when you’re fighting..”
“The people I wanna protect, huh?” Mirio grinned, pulling the cape off and wrapping (First Name) in it. “Then it’s definitely useful!”
(First Name) squeaked and looked up at Mirio from underneath the cape, unable to stop herself from laughing. “Do I look like a damsel in distress to you?”
Mirio’s face went bright red,the boy looking down at her in shock; her smile was the most gorgeous thing he’d ever seen, and her laugh was like a beautiful melody. “You’re more like a princess than a damsel.”
“And what does that make you,a prince?” (First Name) questioned, shaking her head in amusement.
“If I were to be anyone’s prince,I’d definitely choose you to be my princess..” Mirio replied without hesitation, chuckling when he saw how surprised she seemed at his answer.
“You idiot, that’s not funny!” (First Name) huffed, pulling the cape off of herself and putting it back on his costume with a tiny blush tinting her cheeks. “When you wear this costume, and when you eventually wrap someone in your cape, make sure you save them, alright?”
“Of course. It’s a hero’s job to save people,” Mirio grinned, watching as she stripped his costume off of the mannequin. “And I’ll be sure I save them with a smile!”
“Yeah,yeah..” (First Name) told him, folding the costume up and putting it in the case before looking at him. “You’re on the road to becoming the hero you wanna be,right?”
“Definitely! Once I graduate this year,I’m gonna run an agency with Nejire and Tamaki!” Mirio grinned at her cheekily. “And I’ll save over a million people!”
“Good,” (First Name) told him, holding the case out to him. “After this year, you’ll be a real hero. Work hard,Lemillion.”
Mirio took the case from her, feeling how heavy it felt compared to how light it had been when he was just a first-year. “Thank you,(First Name).”
“Of course. Now get to class.” (First Name) told him, waving as she watched the blond disappear. Flopping down in her seat, she looked at the little mirror she kept near her desk, wondering exactly how long she’d keep these feelings bottled up.
Too busy falling apart and I wonder if you're moving on
If you are, what's your secret?
'Cause I can't work out where to start
Time passed by quickly, and (First Name) got a call one day alerting her to the fact that Mirio had been hospitalized. Rushing out of her office and straight out the front gate, she didn’t pause for even a moment to explain herself to Higari.
It took a few hours before (First Name) arrived at the hospital, the girl running in quickly. Rushing up the stairs, she stumbled a little, making it to Mirio’s room after almost falling down the stairs. Throwing the door open, she stopped when she saw the boy doing stretches on his bed.
“Oh,(First Name).. Hey..” Mirio stared at her, unable to force himself to smile in front of her. “Hey,(First Name)..”
“Mirio..” (First Name) walked over to his bed, hesitant to touch him when she didn’t know how he’d react to being touched; she had been told of Mirai’s death, and she knew Mirio was traumatized. “Can I hug you?”
“I..” Mirio’s eyes stung with tears, his lip trembling as he stared at her. Unable to get the words out,he opened his arms, hugging the girl as tight as he could. Burying his face into her shoulder,he clung to her as he started to sob.
(First Name) held him as he sobbed, knowing there was nothing she could say to make it better for him right now. Rubbing his back, she felt how wet her shoulder and hair was getting from his tears, the girl just gripping onto him tightly.
It took two hours before Mirio stopped crying, the blond wiping at his eyes and sniffling. “I lost my Quirk, and I lost Sir..”
“I know..” (First Name) told him softly, gently touching his cheek as she looked into his eyes. “But you’re alive..”
“I was scared.. I was so scared,(First Name)..” Mirio whimpered out, sniffling as he started to tear up once again. “I thought I was going to die.. I thought I wasn’t going to be able to save Eri.. I thought I wasn’t gonna be able to see you again..”
“But you’re alive,Mirio.. You’re alive, and you’re right here, aren’t you?” (First Name) stroked his cheek gently, doing her best to try and cheer him up. Leaning up,she pressed a kiss to his forehead. “You fought even when you were scared, and you survived..”
“But I..” Mirio gripped onto her once again, burying his face in her neck and taking a deep breath as he told himself not to have another breakdown. “Sir told me I’ll be a fine hero someday..”
“And you will be a fine hero someday,Mirio, but for now I’m just glad you’re alive. Seeing you right here, right in front of me.. I’m so glad..” (First Name) told him, hugging him tightly. “Even right now, you’re Lemillion. You’ll always be my hero, and you’ll always be that little girl’s hero..”
“Thank you..” Mirio told her softly, feeling a little better now; he could lose everything else, but he still had (First Name),and he had still saved Eri.
Time passed, and (First Name) attended Mirai’s funeral with Mirio. When the blond got too overwhelmed while trying to keep a bright smile on his face, she silently slipped her hand in his and squeezed it.
The day of the sports festival,Mirio took Eri to meet (First Name) for the first time.
“(First Name),this is Eri! She’s the one I went to save!” The blond told her happily.
(First Name) looked down at Eri for a moment, before she gave the girl a bright smile; she would protect this adorable child with her life. “It’s nice to meet you,Eri. You can call me (First Name).”
“H.. Hi..” Eri greeted her shyly,a little nervous about being spoken to directly.
(First Name) thought for a moment, before remembering a certain surprise she had made for the little girl. Walking into her office, she grabbed the red cape she had made and returned, holding it out to Eri. “It’s not the exact same as the one Mirio wrapped you in,because that one was tattered, but I hope you’ll accept this as a present.”
Eri stared at the cape with wide eyes, slowly reaching out and grabbing it. Gripping it tightly, she looked up at (First Name),really happy she had been given the cape. “Thank you..”
“Don’t worry about it. Have fun with Mirio and Deku, okay?” (First Name) smiled brightly at her, before returning to her office to work on her paperwork.
Late that night,Mirio sat in bed and thought back to how brightly Eri had smiled during Class 1-A’s performance, wondering how she was able to smile again after everything she had been put through. While he was trying hard to act happy,he was just faking it; the memories of seeing his mentor die in front of his eyes haunted him.
After a while, the blond sucked in a deep breath and laid his head down once again, squeezing his eyes shut. “I need to try and move on from this..”
Is your bedroom ceiling bored like mine?
Of you staring at it all the time
(First Name) looked up at the ceiling of her dorm room, missing how pretty the ceiling of her own bedroom was. She missed seeing Mirio whenever she wanted, and she missed seeing how happy her companions were. Rolling over, she grabbed her phone and looked at the screen.
Mirio,are you awake? -(First Initial)
Yeah. What’s wrong? -M
I can’t sleep again. Why aren’t you asleep? -(First Initial)
Nightmares.. Wanna talk on the phone again? -M
If you’re okay with it. I know you don’t like people hearing you cry. -(First Initial)
It’s fine if it’s you. -M
Staring down at her phone,(First Name) pressed the call button and pressed the device to her ear, unsurprised when she heard soft sniffles from the other side immediately. “Hey,Mirio?”
“Yeah?” Mirio sniffled and wiped at his eyes, trying to calm himself down from another bad series of nightmares. Talking to (First Name) at night was the only thing that put him to sleep anymore.
“Thank you for being my hero,” (First Name) told him softly, gripping the phone as she looked up at her ceiling. “And thank you for being you.”
Mirio leaned against the wall beside his bed, gripping his phone tightly as he wiped at his eyes. “You always know how to cheer me up,you know? Thank you,(First Name).”
“I know you’re still crying,” (First Name) tried to think of what would cheer him up,before raising her hand up towards her ceiling. Spreading her fingers out,she stared at them. “Hold your hand out,and then spread your fingers out.”
“Huh? Alright..” Mirio did as told,a little confused on where (First Name) was going with this. “Now what?”
“Now just keep it out for a while. It’s like we’re holding hands, right?” (First Name) tried to sound as cheerful as possible, though her voice wasn’t much different than usual. “Even if we’re far apart, there’s still the same moon at night, and there’s still the same bright sun during the day,so there’s no reason for us to feel completely alone, right?”
“Right..” Mirio studied his hand against the darkness surrounding him. “Hey,(First Name)? Do you wanna come with me somewhere this weekend?”
“Where are you wanting to go?” (First Name) asked, staring at her own hand as she spoke.
“Just me and you, let’s go somewhere, anywhere, and just.. Just have fun. I love Nejire and Tamaki, but they don’t really understand how bad it hurts right now.. I don’t wanna keep faking happiness..” Mirio lowered his hand, hoping she would agree. “We could go to the beach,or even just to a bakery, anywhere you want.. I just wanna do something with you.”
“Then let’s do it,” (First Name) tapped her chin slightly as she tried to think of what would be fun for them to do together. “Have you ever been ice skating?”
“Ice skating..?” Mirio tried to recall if he ever had, chuckling when he faintly remembered going back when he was really little. “Back when I was a kid,I went once. After I cried on the ice,I wasn’t allowed to do it again.”
“There’s a rink near here. Let’s go and have fun together, yeah?” (First Name) suggested, making a mental reminder that she needed to get Kiyo to rent out the ice rink for Sunday.
“I’ll see you then, then…” Mirio held the phone tightly, reluctant to hang up. “Goodnight..”
“Goodnight,Mirio,” (First Name) told him softly, before hanging up the phone. Rolling over in her bed,she hugged her pillow tightly. “Is this kind of thing a ‘date’?”
'Cause it's seen so many nights where I cry and I yell at the sky
For not telling you how I feel
(First Name) waited for Mirio at the gate on Sunday, waving slightly when she saw the blond. “Hey,Mirio.” She greeted him as she walked over.
“Hey,(First Name).. You look pretty.” Mirio replied, scanning her outfit; a black sweater and jeans looked good on her.
“Thanks,” (First Name) walked over to him and grabbed his hand, tugging him in the direction of the ice rink. “You look nice as well.”
“Thanks..” Mirio looked at their connected hands, biting his lip as he followed close behind her.
It took nearly half an hour before the duo made it to the ice rink, which was devoid of other customers since (First Name) had made Kiyo rent out the whole building for the day.
“Why is it empty..?” Mirio asked, looking around curiously. He spotted Kiyo behind the counter, but he wasn’t entirely sure why she was there.
“I asked Kiyo to rent the building so it could just be the two of us..” (First Name) told him, walking over to the maid. “It’s been a while,Kiyo.”
“Indeed, young miss. Kiyomi is in control of the music, and I brought ice skates for both you and master Mirio.” Kiyo reported, holding a pair of ice skates out to the girl with a soft smile.
“Thank you,Kiyo,” (First Name) sat down on the edge of the rink, looking over at Mirio. “Did you think we would be surrounded by a bunch of people? If we’re going to have fun, just the two of us,I won’t risk anyone ruining the day.”
Mirio stared at her for a moment, unable to fight back a laugh. Walking over to Kiyo,he took his own ice skates and thanked her before going to sit next to (First Name) so he could change into them. “Sometimes,I forget that you’re rich..”
(First Name) looked over at him,a very small smile on her face. “Even I forget it sometimes,honestly..” She admitted, before standing up once her skates were on. She stepped onto the ice,a little uneven on her feet at first, and then slowly glided around.
Mirio stood up quickly, immediately falling backwards. He sat there in shock for a moment, looking at how surprised (First Name) looked, and then laughed. “I guess I’ve gotta work on getting my balance on this..”
“Just consider it a type of training, then,” (First Name) skated over to him, holding her hand out to him. “And I’ll just consider it a type of break.”
Mirio stared at her extended hand for a moment, before letting out a chuckle. Rising to his feet, the boy grabbed her hand in his own, holding onto the edge of the rink with his other hand to keep his balance. “It’s not hard to get my balance, considering how disorienting my Quirk was,but I’ve never really been any good on ice..”
“I noticed that,” (First Name) grinned, gliding a bit away so he wouldn’t be able to hold onto the edge. “I changed the shoes of your costume because of that, actually.”
“Seriously? I was wondering why the texture on the bottom had changed..” Mirio chuckled, shaking his head as he slowly let go of the edge. He managed to keep his balance, but his legs were shaky. “How come you’re so good at this?”
(First Name) thought for a moment, remembering how many stupid things she had endured under the guise of becoming a ‘perfect costume designer’,and then decided to tell the truth. “Back when I was a child,I realized rather quickly that I wanted to become a costume designer,so I asked my father to allow me to experiment on all sorts of things..” She glided a few feet away calmly, looking at him. “I wanted to see what kinds of challenges heroes faced, and fighting on ice was one of them,so I learned how hard it was. I tested all sorts of shoes, textures, everything I could to see how challenging it was,and I eventually settled on a material that worked well on all terrains.”
Mirio nodded, amazed at how dedicated (First Name) was to her work. “Doing things like that didn’t leave you with much time for friends, did it?” He slowly glided towards her,a bit uneven on his feet still. “I’ve asked you before, but it was lonely, wasn’t it?”
“I didn’t have friends before,as I chose to put work above everything else..” (First Name) confessed, grabbing his hand to keep him steady. “And I’ve told you this before, but I never once considered my work lonely. Saving lives, supporting those that need it,and building things that help others is all I had ever wanted to do.”
“And now what do you want to do?” Mirio questioned, wanting to know whether being around him and his friends had changed her.
“I..” (First Name) looked down at their hands for a moment, before raising her head to meet Mirio’s gaze. “I want to work with people to support heroes, not just lock myself up in an office.. I want to learn about the people I’m building costumes for,and I want them to praise me for picking up on the things nobody else picks up on.”
Mirio couldn’t help but grin at her, pulling her close without thinking. He fell back, pulling her with him,and hit his head on the ice. Sitting up,he looked down at her worriedly. “Are you alright?!”
(First Name) looked at Mirio for a second, unable to stop herself from laughing. Covering her mouth, she sat up as well, giggles escaping her despite her attempts to keep them hidden. “You.. You idiot.. Did you forget we were on ice?”
Mirio stared at her for a moment, before he began to laugh as well when he realized he had. “Sorry, sorry,I just.. I got really happy!”
(First Name) stopped laughing after a few minutes, wiping her eyes and giggling one last time. Pushing herself to her feet, she held her hand out for him. “Come on,you giant puppy..”
Mirio grinned up at her, pushing himself to his feet. Grabbing her hand,he slowly glided around the ice with her while Kiyomi played music and Kiyo watched over them.
After returning to her dorm that night,(First Name) curled up in her bed and buried her face in her pillow, happy that Mirio had genuinely laughed while they were skating. While she couldn’t bring herself to tell him how she felt, she was happy.
Is your bedroom ceiling bored
Like mine?
Time passed, and (First Name) was staring up at her ceiling once again. Christmas was coming up soon, and her parents had called her to alert her of a party they were throwing.
Rolling over, the girl stared at her phone, trying to work up the courage to text Mirio to invite him.
Mirio,do you wanna come to a Christmas party my parents are throwing? It’ll be thrown at my place!
She scoffed as she read the message, deleting it and looking back at her ceiling for a while as she tried to come up with a better way to word it.
Mirio,do you have any plans for Christmas?
Looking at the message,(First Name) nodded and sent it,anxiety flooding into her immediately.
I usually spend Christmas with Nejire and Tamaki. Why? -M
My parents are throwing a Christmas party, and I want to officially introduce you guys as the people who know my first name. It’s fine if you guys don’t wanna come or anything, though. -(First Initial)
Seriously? We’ll definitely come! It’s a big deal to your family for people to know your first name,so I’m assuming the whole ‘introducing us’ thing is super important as well! -M
I’ll meet you guys at the gate on the twenty-fifth,then. I’ve already gotten permission to take guests out with me on Christmas,so nobody will have to worry about getting in trouble. -(First Initial)
Looking forward to it! -M
Squeezing her phone,(First Name) couldn’t help but grin, happy that Mirio and the others would come to the party.
The twenty-fifth rolled around, and (First Name) walked to her house with her friends. Mirio and Nejire rambled on excitedly, but she and Tamaki stayed quiet like usual.
Walking into the banquet hall,Mirio looked around at the extreme decorations in amazement. There were all sorts of Christmas lights wrapped around everything,a giant tree surrounded by presents, and even a table full of presents. The other two tables were covered in all sorts of presents, and there were over a hundred people just mingling casually. “This is terrifying..”
“I.. I wanna hide..” Tamaki muttered, staying close to Nejire anxiously.
Nejire stayed close to her friends, unwilling to stray far from them in this sort of atmosphere. “Why are people looking at us?”
(First Name) looked at her friends, frowning when she saw how anxious they were. Turning back to the crowd of people, her (Eye Color) eyes scanned the room for her parents. “You three are with me,which puts you at the same rank as me. Nobody can say anything to you,and if they do,they’ll answer to me. Stay close.” She ordered, walking towards her father with her friends close behind.
“That blond boy is the one from those articles..” A woman whispered as Mirio walked by.
“What are a bunch of commoners doing with a member of the (Last Name) family?” A man asked his partner, who gave the same disgusted expression.
“Father, where is the microphone?” (First Name) asked as she marched up to the man, completely interrupting a discussion he was having with a man.
“Lovebug,I’m handling important business. Go play,” (Father’s Name) waved her off, casting a glance at her. Upon seeing how serious his daughter looked,he sighed. “It has yet to be brought out.”
“Then I must wait to introduce them?” (First Name) questioned, gritting her teeth when her father nodded. Sighing, she nodded, turning to walk away.
“That blond one with her is the one who lost his Quirk,is he not?” The man her father had been speaking to asked, making Mirio flinch.
(First Name) spun around within seconds, the room falling silent as a loud slap echoed throughout it. Staring at the man,who was clutching his cheek and looking at her in shock, she narrowed her eyes. “If anyone has anything to say about Nejire Hado,Tamaki Amajiki,or Mirio Togata, they must answer to me. I will not tolerate anyone speaking badly of the people I have chosen to give my first name to. Am I understood?” She announced, her voice holding absolute authority.
Mirio looked around the room with wide eyes, realizing how terrified people seemed of (First Name). “(First Name),it’s okay.. It’s not a big deal..”
“It is a big deal,Mirio,” (First Name) turned her attention towards her friend, before she once again cleared her throat. “As a member of the (Last Name) family,I have chosen to give these three my name. They have access to all of my assets,my unwavering loyalty, and my support. If anyone opens their mouth, they will answer to me. Now,I’ll ask once again.. Am I understood?”
“Yes,miss!” The guests called out, absolutely terrified of the power such a young lady held in her voice.
“Good.” (First Name) walked off to a table situated in the corner, taking a seat calmly.
Nejire sat down beside (First Name),looking at her anxiously as the boys took their seats. “Why did you yell like that?”
“In a society like this, where power is everything, the people here would have bullied you three had I not made my standing overwhelming. The people here do not believe in holding people as mutuals unless they are of the same financial standing,” (First Name) looked at her friends, realizing they didn’t really understand what she was saying. “You guys don’t have as much money as the people here do,so they would have tried to intimidate you all into leaving. I was under the impression that the three of you just walking with me would be enough for them to shut up,but I was wrong.”
Mirio nodded, looking down at the table quietly. “The people here are looking down on you for being friends with us,aren’t they?”
“So?” (First Name) asked, looking at him and raising an eyebrow. “Do you realize how much power I hold over them? Even without my parents,I hold a higher status than any of the adults here. I could have them kneel on the floor the entirety of the party if I chose to.”
“Sc.. Scary…” Tamaki muttered, glad he was in the corner.
“Ms.(Last Name),please pardon me for the ill timing of this..” A boy apologized as he approached them, holding out a giant box. “Please accept this present as a courtship offer..”
Mirio’s eyes widened over the boy’s words, looking at (First Name) to see how she would react. “(First Name),is this normal?”
(First Name) was snapped out of her shock by Mirio’s words, the girl covering her mouth to stop herself from laughing. “Pardon me,but I can not accept your courtship. I have no room left in my heart,as I am already in love. As such,I shall not marry unless it is to the one I have chosen to devote myself to.”
The boy raised his head, his cheeks burning. Pulling the box to his chest,he ran off to cry to his mother like a child.
“Woah, you’re in love?!” Nejire asked (First Name),grinning at her. “Who is it?!”
(First Name) looked around the room for Kiyo, beckoning the maid over when she saw her before turning her attention to Nejire. “Marriage proposals tend to flood in when I make public appearances. The best way to avoid them is to tell people I am already in love.”
“So you lied?” Nejire pouted, putting her head on the table as she sulked childishly.
Mirio could tell (First Name) hadn’t lied about being in love, but he decided not to speak of it. “Rich people are weird..”
“Indeed..” (First Name) agreed, before relaxing when Kiyo made it to them. “Please bring beverages and food for us.”
“Yes,young miss. The usual for everyone?” Kiyo smiled at the group, already knowing exactly what everyone liked. Seeing the nods, she hurried off to fulfill her orders.
Hours passed of laughter and eating, the party soon coming to an end. (First Name) led the group out of the room, leading them to her lab calmly.
“How come we’re going to your lab?” Nejire asked as she followed the girl.
“I created presents for you three,” (First Name) replied, opening the door and walking inside. “And they all took quite a while to make..”
Walking into (First Name)’s lab,Nejire immediately spotted her present, her eyes widening at the sight of the lily-shaped glass hair pin that was beautifully decorated with diamonds. “No way,(First Name),seriously?!”
Tamaki gulped as he stepped into the lab, pausing when he saw his present; a glass butterfly with rainbow-colored wings and diamond accents sat on the messy table, slowly moving its wings. “It moves..?”
Mirio looked around the lab excitedly, not seeing his present at first. Walking closer to the table,he froze when he spotted a glass unicorn with a diamond horn rearing up. “A unicorn?”
“I knew immediately what to make for Nejire and Tamaki, but yours took a little longer to make,Mirio..” (First Name) walked over to the table, smiling slightly. “I asked Eri about what she thought you would like, and she told me she heard of unicorns from Mr.Aizawa,so I created it.. While yours doesn’t move,it does do something I think you’ll like..” Gently, she tapped the horn of the unicorn, watching as a hologram played on the wall. A video of all of Mirio’s friends calling him a hero played,as did a clip of Mirai and Kaoruko calling him a hero. “I asked everyone to record those clips a while ago,but it took a while to wo-”
Mirio hugged (First Name) tightly, burying his face in her neck as he gripped onto her; it felt like years had passed since he’d last heard his mentor’s voice. “Thank you.. Thank you.”
(First Name) hugged back, happy she had stayed up so many nights to make it; seeing how happy her friends looked made up for the sleepless nights. “I’m glad you guys like your presents.”
I stay up late and I talk to the moon
And I can't stop telling him all about you
Mirio stared up at his ceiling that night, glad he had fallen in love with someone as perfect as (First Name). Rolling over,he grabbed his phone and called Tamaki, the glass unicorn sitting on his table.
“Hello..?” Tamaki asked tiredly as he answered the phone; he had just been dozing off when Mirio had called.
“Hey,Tamaki,listen.. I think I’m gonna confess to (First Name),” Mirio told his friend, staring up at the ceiling. “I wanna tell her how much I love her.. I can’t keep acting like I’m not..”
“What?!” Tamaki jerked awake in bed, shocked that Mirio was serious about confessing. “Mirio, are you sure?”
“Of course I’m not sure..” Mirio sighed, sitting up and leaning against the wall. “She’s out of my league in every sense, and I don’t even have my Quirk back yet,but I want to tell her..”
“Mirio..” Tamaki tried to think of what to say without sounding cheesy. “I.. I’ll support you.”
“Seriously? Thanks,Tamaki!” Mirio grinned, holding his phone tightly. “I’ll do it after graduation! Goodnight!
“Night..” Tamaki replied, before hanging up the phone.
Mirio sat in bed, wondering why he wanted to wait until graduation when he could just do it right now. Looking at the home-screen of his phone,he smiled when he saw the picture he had taken of (First Name) while she was working on his costume earlier that year. Biting his lip,he tilted his head back and stared up at the ceiling, realizing that he didn’t want to be a burden to (First Name).
The next day,Mirio walked downstairs to talk to his father, sitting at the table and looking at him. “Hey,dad?”
“What’s up,champ?” Akeru asked, setting the newspaper to the side and looking at his son.
“I’ve told you about (First Name) plenty of times, right?” Mirio looked down at his hands, anxious to tell his father the truth.
“Of course. She’s the girl you’re sweet on,right?” Akeru chuckled when he saw the slight tint of pink on his son’s cheeks, shaking his head in amusement. “What about her?”
“I.. Well, you know how I lost my Quirk, right? She hasn’t treated me any different or anything, but I.. Do you think she’ll think of me as a burden if I confess?” Mirio clenched and unclenched his fists, before raising his head and looking at his father.
Akeru debated what to say for a moment, before taking a deep breath. “I can’t answer that until I meet her.”
Mirio stared at his father in shock, his eyes widening when he realized he had never invited (First Name) to his house before. “Right.. I’ll ask her if she wants to come over,then..” He stood up,hurrying back to his room quickly to text her.
“Honey, you know he’s already smitten with that girl.” Mirio’s mother,Aihime, told her husband.
“The reason I want to meet her isn’t to see if she’s good enough for him,it’s to make him realize he loves her,” Akeru replied, chuckling as he picked up the newspaper once again. “Our son has always been brave and strong, but now that he has someone he loves,he’s become anxious he’ll become a burden to her. He just needs to see that she’s willing to have a troublesome boyfriend. My father did the same for me when we were younger, remember?”
Aihime laughed at the memory, shaking her head with a fond smile on her face. “I remember how you nearly cried when you asked me out because you thought I’d turn you down..”
“You were out of my league,though.. You’ve always had a cute little button nose and pretty golden hair, but it was your smile that made me love you.” Akeru smiled at his wife, glad he had married someone as perfect as her.
“And you’ve always had that pointy nose and pretty blue eyes, but it was your goofball humor that made me love you.” Aihime replied, before returning to cooking calmly.
Mirio sat on his bed, waiting for (First Name) to reply to his text. Feeling his phone buzz, his eyes widened when he saw that she’d agreed to come over on Sunday, the boy running downstairs to start cleaning.
That Sunday,(First Name) stood at Mirio’s door, knocking nervously as she gripped the bag in her hand. When the door opened, she bowed to the blond woman immediately, holding the gift out. “It’s nice to meet you,ma’am.. I’m (First Name) (Last Name),but you can just call me (First Name)..”
“Woah, really? Are you sure? Mirio told us your family considers first names important,so please don’t feel pressured into letting us call you by your name,” Aihime smiled down at (First Name),thinking she was absolutely adorable. Taking the gift from her,she peered into the bag,her eyes widening when she saw the expensive bottle of wine and the beautiful set of wine glasses. “Please, come in.” She stepped to the side, holding the door open for (First Name).
(First Name) stepped inside and slipped her shoes off, smoothing her skirt nervously as she put on one of the spare pairs of house slippers they had. “Thank you for inviting me over,ma’am,and please feel free to call me by my first name. The family of those I give my first name to are the same as my own family.”
“Hey,(First Name)!” Mirio greeted her energetically as he rushed down the stairs, his eyes widening when he saw how cute she looked in the fluffy sweater and matching fluffy skirt. “You look pretty.”
“Thanks,Mirio,” (First Name) relaxed once she saw him, feeling more comfortable now that it wasn’t just her and Aihime. “You said you needed help on fixing a car or something, right?”
“Yeah.. My dad messed it up a few weeks ago,and we can’t figure out what’s up with the engine,so I thought you’d probably be able to tell..” Mirio grinned at her, happy she had agreed to come over; he had needed a good enough excuse to get her to come over, and the ruined engine was the only one he had come up with. “Are you okay with getting an outfit like that dirty, though?”
“Of course. Where’s the car at?” (First Name) tilted her head to the side slightly, following Mirio when he led her into the garage. Seeing the vintage car,her eyes lit up,a giant grin spreading across her face. “You’ve got a Toyota Celica?! No way! I haven’t seen one of these babies in forever!”
“You’ve seen one of these before?” Akeru asked, shutting the trunk and looking at the girl; she didn’t really look like the ‘super cool and beautiful badass that’s amazing at building’ that Mirio described her to be,but he was willing to give her a chance.
“Yes,sir! When I was around ten or eleven,my mother asked me to repair one from 1972 since the old owner of it had screwed it up,and it took me nearly two years to finish restoring it!” (First Name) replied eagerly, walking over to the car eagerly. She gently ran her fingers over the hood, her eyes sparkling “This is the one with the messed up engine, right? I’ve never seen one of the originals, but this thing is beautiful..”
“I’ve gotta say,I’m surprised you’ve worked on one at such a young age..” Akeru walked over and opened the hood, looking down at the engine. “You can do anything you hafta do to get it running.”
(First Name) studied the engine for a minute, realizing everything that was wrong with it. “It’ll take me a few hours, but I can fix it. It’ll get a little messy in here, though, and I’ll need to flush out your radiator and replace your oil pump. You alright with that?”
“How much will all of that cost me?” Akeru asked, worried they wouldn’t be able to pay for all of that.
“Please, sir, don’t worry about it,” (First Name) replied, taking her phone out and calling Kiyo. “Hey,Kiyo,I need you to send a car to Mirio’s place. Make sure it’s got my tools in it,antifreeze, and a brand new oil pump.”
“Do you need anything else, young miss?” Kiyo asked, scribbling the list down calmly.
“I believe that is all, thank you,” (First Name) hung up,before looking at Akeru with a bright smile. “I’ve got a car on the way with all of the materials I need to fix it,so please don’t worry about it.”
“Right..” Akeru muttered, amazed with how calm (First Name) seemed over it. “Mirio has told me a lot about you,but I have to say that words don’t do you justice.”
“Mirio speaks of me?” (First Name) asked, looking at Mirio and giggling when she saw how flustered he looked. “I hope it was all positive.”
“Of course it was!” Mirio huffed, his face bright red. “Now let’s just get inside,my mother’s making food for us..” He added, grabbing (First Name)’s hand and pulling her inside quickly.
That night,(First Name) was welcomed into the Togata family with open arms. Repairing their car, eating dinner with them, and smiling as she looked at Mirio’s baby pictures,(First Name) found herself genuinely happy that she had fallen in love with a boy that had come from such a warm and loving family.
Wonder if you do the same thing I do
I hope you do
Months passed, and (First Name) sat awake late one night, staring out at the dark night beyond her window. She had graduated from U.A. surrounded by her classmates,as had Mirio, but he wasn’t going to become a hero like their friends were. She wouldn’t be returning to U.A. this year, though she had been offered an official job at the school.
Rising to her feet, the girl walked onto the balcony, looking up at the stars. Gripping the railing, she remembered the bright smile Mirio had given while walking off with his diploma gripped in his hand.
“Young miss, are you alright?” Kiyo asked as she walked out onto the balcony.
(First Name) looked back at her maid for a moment, before turning her gaze back to the stars. “Mirio hasn’t texted me since we graduated, and it’s starting to sink in that there is little tying us together now..”
“Young miss..” Kiyo hesitated for a moment, before stepping forward so she was beside the girl. Looking out at the night sky,she decided to continue speaking. “You love him, don’t you?”
“Yes,I do,” (First Name) confessed, reaching her hand out towards a star. Spreading her fingers apart, she looked at them. “I don’t know when, nor do I know why,but I realized one day that I wished to hold his hand in mine and see him smile..”
“Then why do you hesitate still?” Kiyo questioned, looking over at the girl. “I have been a maid here since before you were born, and I have seen you grow. Not once have I seen my young miss hesitate to grab hold of what she wants.”
“What if he thinks I’m not good enough?” (First Name) lowered her hand, looking down at the pool. Seeing the blue water gave her the courage she needed to keep speaking. “I wish to protect Mirio from all of the bad things in the world, but I know such a thing is impossible.. If I confessed to him,and we began dating,I would only fall deeper in love with him.. Eventually, his Quirk will be returned, and one day I would have to watch him leave me.. I am not brave enough for that..”
“So you would rather not try at all?” Kiyo frowned when she saw her young miss nod,the old woman looking out at the dark sky. “I once heard master Tamaki refer to master Mirio as the ‘sun’,and master Mirio told him he was someone who devoured the sun’s light.. If master Mirio and miss Nejire shine like the sun,and master Tamaki is the moon that absorbs all of their light,I know what my young miss is.”
“What do you believe I am,then,Kiyo?” (First Name) looked over at the maid curiously.
“My young miss is the earth..” Kiyo looked out at everything with a soft smile. “As a child, you were a barren wasteland. As you aged, gaining experiences, people tilled your land and planted seeds, but nothing grew.. Then, one day,you met two suns and a moon, and you began to bloom.. In exchange for them making your flowers grow, you revolve around them, desperately trying to get closer while still being unwilling to give yourself to them.”
“The earth, huh?” (First Name) looked out at the darkness, before looking down at her hand once again. “I thought I was just a star..”
“A star? No,no,my young miss is no star. The stars may twinkle and shine, but the earth grows and supports life,” Kiyo wrapped her arm around (First Name)’s shoulders, leading her inside. “Come, now,it’s time for bed.”
“Thank you,Kiyo..” (First Name) told her softly.
Is your bedroom ceiling bored like mine
Of you staring at it all the time
Mirio sat in bed, looking out his window at the darkness of the night sky. He had graduated three days prior, but he hadn’t texted anyone since then because he was too afraid. He reached out to open the window, but he hesitantly lowered his hand when he realized it was too late at night.
Laying back down,Mirio stared up at his ceiling, wondering if (First Name) had even noticed that he hadn’t texted her. Turning his phone on,he re-read some of the texts he and (First Name) had sent nearly a month ago.
Mirio, how are your parents doing? -(First Initial)
Dad’s still bugging me about when you’re coming over next. He absolutely loves you,and so does mom. She said she’s never met someone as polite as you. -M
Really? I’m glad they like me,then. Want me to come visit this weekend? -(First Initial)
No,we’re working on our kitchen. Maybe during summer, though! -M
Well feel free to come to my place whenever you wanna. Mother and father aren’t entirely fond of you quite yet,but they respect you,so you’re always welcome. -(First Initial)
I’ll come over when I’m not busy. See you then! -M
Turning his phone off,Mirio’s gaze returned to his ceiling, wondering why he was so desperate to avoid facing (First Name).
“Hey,champ, you awake?” Akeru knocked on Mirio’s door, before opening it and peering inside. Seeing his son still awake,he stepped inside. “Wanna talk for a while?”
“Huh..?” Mirio sat up,looking at his father with wide eyes. “How come you’re awake?”
“Your mother and I have been worried about you,so I wanted to come check on you,” Akeru admitted, sitting down on the edge of his son’s bed. “So,do you wanna talk about it?”
“I..” Mirio looked down at his lap, sighing. “Dad,what did you think of (First Name)?”
“What do you mean?” Akeru raised an eyebrow, wondering why his son wanted his opinion.
“Back before I introduced her to you guys, you said you wouldn’t be able to tell what kind of person she was until you met her, right? Well, you met her..” Mirio stared at his hands awkwardly. “Do you think she’d think of me as a burden if I confessed?”
“Mirio, you really didn’t notice it while she was over here?” Akeru asked, shocked his son was an absolute moron.
“Notice what?” Mirio looked at his father in confusion.
“That girl is completely smitten with you! She teased you,she thought you were an adorable baby, and she brought expensive wine for your mother and I! She’s head-over-heels in love with you!” Akeru shook his head, sighing as he looked at his shocked son. “A woman who walks in the freezing cold winter while wearing a skirt just to repair a car for your family is definitely in love with you.”
Mirio shook his head, not believing his father’s reasoning. “She only did it because I know her name..”
“That child said she considers your mother and I family! That’s not something just anyone would say,Mirio!” Akeru groaned, shaking his head. “You’re the most oblivious boy I have ever met..”
“But I don’t even have a Quirk anymore.. I can’t even be a hero..” Mirio muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Do you think of her as someone that shallow?” Akeru frowned, trying to think of how he should explain it to his idiot son. “That girl doesn’t look at you and think of whether or not you have a Quirk, son. She looks at you the same way your mother looks at me.”
“No she doesn’t.. She looks at me like..” Mirio trailed off, realizing exactly how much (First Name) had always done for him. “She looks at me like I’m even more important than her work..”
“There you go,champ,” Akeru stood up,ruffling his son’s hair and chuckling. “Now all you have to do is tell her.”
'Cause it's seen so many nights where I cry and I yell at the sky
For not telling you how I feel
A week after graduating from U.A.,Mirio Togata found himself standing in front of a familiar oak door. Raising his hand,he knocked thrice.
“Enter.” (Father’s Name) called out from his desk.
Mirio pushed the door open, walking over and taking a seat. This time,he didn’t squirm under the man’s glare. “I came to ask something of you.”
“I’m not the one who gave you their name. If you want something, you ask my lovebug for it.” (Father’s Name) growled out, annoyed that Mirio didn’t seem as scared of him as he should be.
“So I should ask (First Name) out directly?” Mirio asked, looking right at him.
(Father’s Name) choked on his tea, spitting it out on his documents and coughing. Catching his breath,he looked at Mirio and narrowed his eyes. “What did you just say?!”
“I want to ask (First Name) out. I understand that rich people offer each-other presents when they ask people out,but I don’t know what I could possibly give that she couldn’t make or buy,so I didn’t bring anything.” Mirio clenched his fists, trying to seem as brave and confident as possible.
(Father’s Name) stared at the boy in absolute shock, before he slowly started to laugh. “You may ask my lovebug out if you’d like, but I can assure you that she doesn’t return such sentiments. She’s currently in her lab.
“Thanks, sir!” Mirio grinned at him, before turning and fleeing from the office. Running to (First Name)’s lab,he knocked on the door and called out her name.
“Mirio..?” (First Name) asked herself when she heard his voice, putting her materials to the side and heading over to the door. Opening it,she looked up at him in shock. “What are you doing here?”
“Can I come in?” Mirio asked, stepping in before she could even answer. He needed to confess before he lost the nerve, but when he saw his hero costume on a mannequin, the words left him. “You made my costume again..?”
“I..” (First Name) sighed, realizing she didn’t quite know how to explain it. “I wanted to make it for when you get your Quirk back.. I’ve been working on it for a while now,but I didn’t wanna show it to you until it was a surefire thing..” She walked over to the mannequin, grabbing the cape and feeling how soft the material was before looking at him.
Mirio watched her, before clenching his fists; all he needed to say was three little words, but he couldn’t get them out. Walking over,he looked at the costume silently, realizing it was an exact replica of his old one. “(First Name),when you look at me,what do you see?”
“What do you mean..?” (First Name) asked, looking up at him as she released the cape.
“Do you see someone you care about? Or am I just another hero to you?” Mirio tried to keep his tone as casual as he could, but even he could tell how critical he sounded.
“I..” (First Name) hesitated, remembering what Kiyo had told her last night; she was the earth that was too afraid to give herself to the sun. Taking a deep breath, she grabbed the cape and pulled it off of the costume, wrapping it around Mirio. “Mirio, when I look at you,I see you. I see the you that tries to always smile because he wants people to feel comfortable around him. I see the you that walked into the Costume Development Studio and trusted a random girl like me to cut your hair. I see the you that tries not to cry in front of people because you want to seem strong and reliable. I see the you that calls and texts me late at night when you have nightmares because I’m one of the only people you’re okay with crying around. I see the you that saw someone like me and decided I was good enough to become your friend..” (First Name) looked up at him, summoning the remaining courage she had. “I see the you that I want to protect, and the you that I love more than anything.”
Mirio stared down at her with wide eyes, her words slowly sinking in. He pulled the cape off of his shoulders, wrapping it around her. “(First Name),when I see you,I see the girl that I’m completely and utterly in love with.. I see the girl that didn’t hesitate to punch a pervert and then walk home the girl he’d been harassing. I see the girl that rarely smiles and laughs, even though you’re absolutely beautiful when you do,and I see the girl that went to the funeral of a man you hardly knew just because I needed you there. I see the you that is ridiculously hard-working and strong, and the you that secretly loves being held,” He grabbed the cape that was wrapped around her, using it to pull her into a tight hug. “I see the you that I want to date, and then marry..”
(First Name) hugged back, hugging him tightly and burying her face in his chest. Breathing in his familiar scent, she slowly relaxed, thanking her lucky stars that she had fallen in love with a man who saw her like nobody else ever had.
Is your bedroom ceiling bored?
Four years passed, and (First Name) looked over when she heard the door to the Costume Development Studio open. “How can I help you?” She asked a boy she’d never met before; she could tell he was a first-year simply by his stance.
“This.. This place is the Costume Development Studio, right?” The boy,Kanrou, asked nervously.
“Yes,it is. What can I help you with?” (First Name) cleaned her hands off, making sure the robot she was working on was still off,and then turned to face him.
“Mr.Togata sent me here.. He said that I needed to ask Mrs.Togata about my costume..” Kanrou looked up at the woman, gulping when he saw her blank expression.
“Can you describe the sign you’d wanted for your costume?” (First Name) asked, walking over to her office.
“It was blue.. And it had a hat..” Kanrou described awkwardly.
“Ah,that one! I remember now!” (First Name) pulled the costume off of the mannequin she had put it on,folding it and putting it in the case. “I had to make special adjustments to the hat in order to make it work better with your Quirk, and I kinda changed up part of the design in order to counteract many of the dangers you would face in the field,so I didn’t take it to your class this morning! Sorry about that!” She hauled the case into the room, holding it out to him calmly. “Hope you like it.”
“Thanks,ma’am..” Kanrou grabbed the case and fled from the room, absolutely terrified of the woman; he had only heard rumors of the ‘super crazy costume designer who is married to Mr.Togata and is way too lenient on her students’ before, but he definitely understood that the rumors were true now.
“How’d it go?” One of Kanrou’s friends asked when he saw the boy running over.
“She’s terrifying! How is someone like her married to someone like Mr.Togata?!” Kanrou shouted, praying he’d never have to face the woman again.
“Hey,that’s mean of you guys. My wife is absolutely adorable,” Mirio huffed, laughing when his students jumped and screamed at his sudden appearance. “My lovely wife is just the definition of perfection, you know? She may seem cold, but she loves her students, and she put a lot of work in your costumes. You should appreciate that.”
“It’s not that hard to create a costume,though,sir..” Kanrou muttered, worried he’d be scolded.
“Do you have any idea what it takes for her to make those costumes?” Mirio asked, chuckling when his students shook their heads. “A prospective hero designs a costume full of things they’d like, but it’s the designer who creates it. They work with heroes to create costumes that fit within their budget and allow for more opportunities to save lives. A tiny miscalculation could cost hundreds of lives, and a designer must be careful in every calculation they make. Every measurement must be exact. The material must be thick enough to keep the hero wearing it safe, but also thin enough for them to feel comfortable,” He recalled how (First Name) had given him this exact lecture, making him chuckle. “Heroes may save lives, but without costume designers and support item developers,we would be nothing.”
Is your bedroom ceiling bored
Like mine?
(First Name) walked into her childhood bedroom, smiling fondly as she looked around the giant room. Looking up at the ceiling, she couldn’t help but laugh as she recalled how many nights she had spent crying in her bedroom; her bedroom ceiling had probably been bored since she’d moved out three years ago.
“Ma..!” The one-year-old girl in her arms babbled, looking up at her and giggling.
“Sorry,sorry..” (First Name) bounced her gently,a gentle smile on her face. “Ready to meet grandma and grandpa?”
“Abu!” The baby squealed and giggled, snuggling into her mother’s chest and looking up at the ceiling curiously.
Mirio walked into the room, wrapping his arms around his wife’s waist and laying his head on her shoulder. “Why’d you sneak off in here? Your parents and the maids are waiting.”
“I just wanted to show our little darling my old room,” (First Name) told her husband, leaning into his arms. “It’s like it looks different now,you know? Nothing’s changed in here at all,but since we’ve changed,it’s like everything’s different..”
“Yeah, you’re right..” Mirio kissed her cheek, chuckling when he heard his daughter whine. Pressing a kiss to his daughter’s forehead,he stepped back and held his hand out for his wife. “Let’s go,love.”
(First Name) looked down at her husband’s hand, smiling as she took his hand. Holding her darling daughter up with one arm,she walked out of the room with her beloved husband, casting one final glance at her old bedroom ceiling as the door shut behind them.
