In his little hometown,where hardly anyone was accepting of people that had appearance-altering Quirks,Mezo Shoji was among the few kids who looked ‘inhuman’. The others,who were also ostracized by the townspeople,were all older than him; all except for (First Name),that is.
The first time he’d seen her,Mezo had been intrigued by the traditional kitsune mask she was wearing. The mask looked expensive,which had intimidated him into staying away; not many people in their town could afford such a thing,and the ones who could tended to be rude,so he’d decided to play it safe. While he wanted to talk to her,to make friends with another ‘freak’,he couldn’t bring himself to go anywhere near her.
The second time he’d seen her,Mezo had been amazed to see she had a fluffy tail and a set of fox ears. He internally scolded himself for not having noticed them the last time he’d seen her,but he was absolutely intrigued by how soft they looked. He wanted to pet them,but he knew better than to approach the girl; if the rumors floating around the school were right,she wasn’t keen on making friends.
The third time he’d seen her,Mezo had to rescue her on the playground.
“Hey,(Last Name),how come you’re so quiet?!” One of the boys in the girl’s class asked,reaching out and grabbing her tail before yanking on it.
“Stop it!” (First Name) snapped,trying to pull her tail out of his grip. “Let go of me!”
“You’re super ugly,right?! That’s why you wear that mask,right?!” Another boy asked,reaching to grab it. “Mama says people like you are always ugly!”
“Leave her alone!” Mezo shouted as he ran over,waving his arms angrily. He had been hoping a teacher would intervene,but seeing as the teacher was nowhere in sight,he decided it was his job to play hero.
“And what are you gonna do about it?” The first boy asked,letting go of her tail and glaring at him.
Mezo froze up when he was asked that,realizing he hadn’t thought that far ahead. He knew people were afraid of his Quirk,and even though he didn’t want them to be scared of him,he decided it was the only way he could protect (First Name). He made eyes appear on his spare arms,watching as the boys screamed and ran away. He tried to turn around to ask (First Name) if she was okay,but the girl was nowhere to be seen. He sighed when he realized he’d probably scared her away by using his Quirk,but he was extremely happy when he later found a thank-you note at his desk and a piece of chocolate.

Mezo saw (First Name) nearly a week later on a trip to the library,and he was amazed when he saw the small stack of books she had beside her. He grabbed a few books as well and walked over,sitting down across from her. When she didn’t say anything to him after a few minutes,he grabbed a notebook from his bag and scribbled a note down,sliding it over to her.
Would you like to talk? -M
Little (First Name) stared at the notebook for a second before grabbing a pencil from her own bag,scribbling down her reply and sliding it back to him.
I don’t like to speak. I prefer writing like this. -(First Initial)
Mezo looked down at his notebook,ecstatic she had replied to him at all. He scribbled down his reply and then slid it back to her.
Are you afraid of me? Or afraid of my Quirk? -M
(First Name) stared at the notebook for a second,trying to remember the correct spelling for the words she wanted to write. When she was sure she was correct,she scribbled her reply down and slid it back to him.
I’m afraid of people. I wasn’t scared of you,but I couldn’t bring myself to thank you out loud because I was afraid you’d end up hating me because of my Quirk. -(First Initial)
Mezo looked down at the note she’d written,before letting out a soft laugh as he wrote his reply.
I’ll never hate you just because of your Quirk. Wanna be friends? -M
(First Name) stared down at the notebook in shock,amazed he actually wanted to be friends with her. Gripping her pencil tightly,she wrote out her reply.
But I don’t speak,so wouldn’t you feel sad? -(First Initial)
Mezo read her reply and shook his head wildly,scribbling out his own reply and sliding the notebook over to her.
We can talk like this! We don’t need to speak to be friends! -M
(First Name) smiled a bit under her mask as she read his reply,glad he didn’t think she was weird for not liking to speak.
Then I’d love to be friends. But for now,we should read. -(First Initial)
Reading her reply,Mezo nodded quickly,picking his book up and beginning to read once again.
Communication continued for months this way,the duo meeting up in the library often and passing the notebook back and forth until they were both comfortable in each-other’s presence.

Looking at her friend,(First Name) took a deep breath. She hadn’t spoken to anyone unless it was necessary,mainly because her mother had told her it was better she avoid getting attached to people,but she trusted Mezo. “M.. Mezo..?” She squeaked out,her eyes widening when the world suddenly changed around her. She could see what she assumed was the color blue on her friend’s mask,and she could see the familiar grey of his hair. She could see everything for once,and she didn’t know what to do.
Hearing his friend’s voice for the first time amazed Mezo,sending the young boy into overdrive. “Your voice is really pretty,(First Name)! Why were you worried about me running away?” He complimented,his eyes widening when he realized he could see color now. He could see all sorts of colors,and they were exactly as his mother had described them. On (First Name)’s mask,he could see the colors that he assumed were red and white; it was beautiful. He could see her (Hair Color) hair,though he wasn’t sure if he had the right color in mind. The thing that amazed him most was her eyes,though; peering out from the eyes of her mask was a set of beautiful (Eye Color) eyes. In a world that had once been grey,Mezo found a favorite color.
“Can.. Can you see color now..?” (First Name) asked nervously. She had heard from her mother that people only saw color once they met their soulmate,but she hadn’t expected her soulmate to be her first friend.
“Yeah.. It’s weird..” Mezo admitted,looking around. “This makes us soulmates,right?”
“Yeah..” (First Name) trailed off,unsure of what else to say. “It does..”

After realizing she and Mezo were soulmates,(First Name) decided she no longer needed to hold back around him. “Mezo!” She called out when she saw her friend waiting on the street corner for her,running over to him quickly.
“Morning,(First Name),” Mezo said,smiling a little bit from under his mask. “Are you sure you’re okay with going to the public library?”
“Of course! If you’re there,I’m safe,right?” (First Name) said,giggling a bit as she grabbed his hand and pulled him along. “I wanna get there quickly so we can get the best books!”
Mezo smiled as he followed his friend to the library,not caring that some of the people they passed glared at them. He had begged his parents for permission to go to the public library with her today,but he was glad they had agreed. Seeing (First Name) so excited to read together made it worth it. “What books are you looking for today?”
“It’s a bunch of poems called ‘The Faerie Queene’! Mama said it’s gonna be difficult since it’s in English,but I know I can read it!” (First Name) said,her tail wagging wildly. “I also wanna read ‘War and Peace’ since it sounds cool!”
“Isn’t that the super heavy book? I’ll carry it for you.” Mezo said,staying close to her side. While he knew (First Name) was smart,he worried she would struggle with the books.
Arriving at the library,little (First Name) marched straight over to the librarian,asking the woman to lead her to the books she wanted. “Honey,I think those books are a bit too difficult for you. Why not go read a book on fairy tales?” The librarian asked after hearing the titles.
“No thanks,but I appreciate it! Where are they?” (First Name) asked,staring up at her. She didn’t like people doubting her intelligence.
“Sweetheart,I really think it’s for the best that you read something else. The words in those books are much too difficult for a child to understand,” The librarian said,sighing a little. She grabbed one of the fairytale books and shoved it in the child’s arms,nudging her to the little kid tables. “Go read that instead.”
“Fine.” (First Name) growled out,stomping over to the tables with Mezo hot at her heels.
“Now what?” Mezo asked,knowing (First Name) was upset now.
(First Name) didn’t answer him,reading through the book quickly. Despite the book being rather thick,she finished it in roughly ten minutes,stomping over to the librarian and shoving it in her arms. “Will you show me ‘War and Peace’ now or not?”
“There’s no way you read this so quickly,and there’s no reason for you to be so rude.” The librarian huffed,putting the book up.
“The first chapter was on the adventures of the little boy who fell in love with an onion princess and cried so many tears that he drowned in his love for her. The idea behind it was that love can be harmful and that you shouldn’t die for the ones you love. The second,third,and fourth chapter were on the adventures of the daughter of the moon,who fell from the sky and ended up giving her life to an entire farming town in order to bless them with a good harvest. Chapters five to twenty-five were centered around the onion princess’s grandson,who fell in love with a princess of the sun and went on a journey to rescue her from a vicious spirit that had imprisoned her in a cage of sharp roses,” (First Name) snapped,glaring up at the woman. “Now am I allowed to read the books or not?”
“Fine,you little smartass.” The librarian snapped,stomping off to get the books. After grabbing them,she put them in (First Name)’s arms,smirking when she realized the girl could hardly hold them up.
“I’ll carry them,(First Name),” Mezo said,taking the books from her calmly. “Thanks for your help,ma’am!” He added as he looked up at the librarian.
“Thanks,ma’am! Thanks,Mezo!” (First Name) said happily,walking back to the table with him hot on her heels. “Aren’t you gonna get a book?”
“I don’t really wanna read today,so I’ll just watch you read,” Mezo told her,setting the books down. “I just like hanging out with you.”
“You’re the best,Mezo.” (First Name) told him,sitting down. She grabbed one of the books and cracked it open,smiling as she began to read.
Mezo watched as (First Name) read the books,eventually grabbing a book about foxes from the shelf and sitting down beside her silently. By the time he finished the book,(First Name) had finished all of the books she’d grabbed. ‘You ready to go?” He asked.
“Yep! Can you carry the heavy ones to the librarian?” (First Name) asked,watching as he did so. Since their business there was done,she grabbed his hand and left with him after they had returned the books,walking happily. “Are you hungry? Mama gave me some money,so we can get some food!”
“But how are you gonna eat?” Mezo asked,looking at her worriedly. “You don’t like taking off your mask,right?”
“I just tilt it up a little is all,” (First Name) said,walking happily. “I don’t like people seeing my face,but it’s fine if it’s just my mouth.. How about we get takoyaki? You said you like it,right?”
“It’s one of my favorite foods,” Mezo said,looking around. “But is there a shop near here that sells it?”
“I know a good stall!” (First Name) said,leading the way eagerly. “They sell the best takoyaki!”
After a while of walking,Mezo realized (First Name) was completely lost. “Hey,(First Name),are you sure this is the way?”
“Of course I’m sure!” (First Name) said,looking around as she tried to remember where the stall was. Realizing she was lost,she let out a sigh. “We’ll have to ask..”
“I thought so,” Mezo said,letting out a giggle as he walked over to a woman. “Ma’am,can you help us? We’re looking for a takoyaki stall.”
“Get away from me,you freaks!” The woman snapped,gripping onto her purse tighter.
(First Name)’s ears flattened at the woman’s words,her grip on Mezo’s hand tightening. “You’re a bitch!” She told the woman,letting out a huff as she pulled Mezo away.
“(First Name),that was mean!” Mezo told her,stumbling after her. “You’re not supposed to say things like that..”
“Well she shouldn’t have been mean to us,” (First Name) said,angry that Mezo wasn’t as mad as she was. “Why are you always so nice,Mezo? People are gonna walk all over you if you’re always so nice..”
“Well I don’t wanna make anyone sad..” Mezo told her,sighing a bit. “Maybe someone will help if you ask them and I’m not there?”
“If they’re not willing to help both of us,we don’t need their help at all!” (First Name) said,her tail fluffing up. “I won’t be nice to any mean adults.”
Mezo just let out a sigh as (First Name) pulled him around,knowing people were reacting negatively to them because he was there. When an older gentleman finally gave them directions,he thanked him,walking with (First Name) happily. “Are you happy now?”
“Of course I’m happy now,” (First Name) said,looking at him and grinning. “Even if a bunch of adults here are jerks,there are people that like people like us!”
Mezo stared at her,smiling a bit underneath his mask. While he was always reluctant to do things because he didn’t want to upset anyone,(First Name) was always eager to do things even if it upset others,and he was happy she was his soulmate.

Mezo and (First Name) only grew closer as they grew older,walking to and from school together everyday.
“Hey,Mezo,where’s your dog at?” One of the boys in his class asked when he saw the boy at the gate.
“She’s not a dog,she’s a fox,” Mezo told him calmly,used to the same stupid quips everyone had made for years now. “And she had cleanup duty today.”
“She’s definitely more like a dog! She only ever looks at a weirdo like you!” The boy snapped,going to shove him. He froze and stumbled back when a blue flame appeared around Mezo,letting out a scream.
Mezo looked over,chuckling when he saw (First Name) standing nearby. “You used foxfire?”
“Yeah,but I can’t use it well yet,” (First Name) said,the fire disappearing. “Ready to go home?”
“Of course,” Mezo said,walking over to her happily. “But you don’t have to protect me,you know?”
“Well he’s not allowed to bully you!” (First Name) said,grabbing Mezo’s hand as they started to walk together. “Can we go check out that new koi bridge they have?”
“If you want to,I don’t mind.” Mezo told her,walking calmly. He didn’t much care what they did when they were together,he just enjoyed being around her.
“Yay!” (First Name) cheered happily,walking with him happily.
When they arrived at the little bridge that overlooked the koi pond,Mezo was shocked when (First Name) jumped onto the railing. “What are you doing?!”
“It’s fine,Mezo! I’ve got good balance!” (First Name) told him,laughing a little when she saw how worried he looked. She made her way across the railing happily,keeping her balance easily. “It’s fun,and I get to see the koi better this way!”
“Just be careful,alright?” Mezo asked,sighing a little as he tried to relax. When a strong gust of wind came suddenly and almost knocked (First Name) into the pond,he grabbed her arm,pulling her into his arms. “You okay?!” He asked worriedly,looking down at her.
(First Name) stared up at Mezo with wide eyes,before she let out a loud laugh. “Thanks for the save,Mezo! You’d make a great hero!”
“A hero..? Seriously?” Mezo asked,sighing as he sat her down. He had given it some thought before,much like everyone his age did,but he didn’t know if he’d actually be any good at it. “I’ll be lucky if I don’t die from you giving me a heart attack before we’re adults.”
“Hey,I’m pretty cautious! I only do stupid things because I know you’ll always save me!” (First Name) told him,her tails wagging happily. Her second tail had appeared two weeks prior,much to Mezo’s excitement,but she didn’t care much about it.
“That’s exactly why I’ll end up dying early.. Just be more careful from now on,okay?” Mezo asked,smiling when she nodded. “Now let’s get home.”

When Mezo entered fifth grade,he was told (First Name) was getting shipped off to America for middle school. “What do you mean you’re leaving?”
“Well it’s not gonna be today,obviously,but I’m going to America for middle school..” (First Name) said,looking down. “I won’t be allowed to return for a few years..”
“But why?” Mezo asked,trying to figure out why she had to leave him. It didn’t make sense.
“My mother said that it’s for the best that I get a chance to experience life in the mountains with my father for a while.. Since he abandoned most of his humanity to live in the woods,my mother wants me to have the chance to cut loose..” (First Name) explained,looking down. “She said it’s how I’ll get stronger..”
“You don’t need to get stronger,though.. I’m here to protect you..” Mezo said,squeezing her hand. “Am I not strong enough?”
“Of course you’re strong,it’s just.. Mom said that I have to be able to control my powers,and that my dad is the only one who can train me in it.. She said that if I don’t go through with training,I’ll lose myself..” (First Name) said,gripping his hand tightly. “So we have to make this year last,okay?”
“Right..” Mezo said softly,gripping her hand tightly. “Right..”

(First Name) took a deep breath as she prepared herself to step onto the plane. She had spent the entirety of middle school,as well as her first year of highschool,in America. Now,it was time for her to return home.
“Have you got everything?” Her father growled out,his gruff voice cutting her out of her daze.
“Yes. Thanks for the training,” (First Name) said,not looking back at him. “See you next time,old man.” She added,running off through the airport with the backpack in her arms; she was coming home to Mezo.
Mezo let out a sneeze as he sat in class,thanking Fumikage when he blessed him.
“Hey,have you guys heard the news yet?!” Izuku asked excitedly as he walked into class,looking like an excited puppy.
“What’s up,Deku?” Ochaco asked eagerly,looking at him.
“We’re getting a new student! She’s a transfer student,apparently!” Izuku said,grinning. “All Might told me she’s really strong,and Principal Nezu said I’m in charge of choosing a group to go pick her up!”
“A transfer student? From where?” Denki asked,tilting his head to the side. “I definitely wanna meet her!”
“She’s coming from America apparently!” Izuku told him,grinning. “You can come!”
“I shall also attend! I wish to ask her questions!” Tenya said,doing his signature airchop.
“You can come too,Iida! Do you wanna come,Uraraka?” Izuku asked,grinning when she nodded. “Great! The four of us can go to pick her up,then!”
Mezo listened to their conversation curiously,shrugging a bit and turning back to talking to Fumikage calmly.

(First Name) ran out of the airport,her tails wagging excitedly as she looked around eagerly. She had been told to look for a kid that looked like a piece of broccoli,so when she saw Izuku,she ran over. “Hey there!”
“Uh,hi..? Are you (First Name)?” Izuku asked,looking at her curiously.
“Yep!” (First Name) said,grinning at him. “You’re from U.A.,right? Do you know Mezo Shoji?”
“Shoji..? He’s in our class,but why?” Denki asked,tilting his head to the side as he looked at the pretty girl.
“He’s my soulmate!” (First Name) said,grinning from underneath her mask. “He’s really a student at U.A.,right? Man,I bet he’s super cool!”
“You’re Shoji’s soulmate?! How come he’s never talked about you?!” Izuku asked,looking at her with wide eyes.
“While I am interested in this conversation,we should start our return to U.A. now! We must stick to the schedule!” Tenya interrupted,his eyes widening when (First Name) retreated behind Denki. “What ever did I do wrong?”
“I don’t like loud people like you..” (First Name) told him,gripping onto Denki’s arm and peering out at Tenya.
“Forgive me. I shall keep that in mind in the future.” Tenya said,pushing his glasses up.
(First Name) stared at him for a minute,before she slowly nodded. “Alright.. You said we have a schedule to stick to,right?”
“Indeed. We should depart immediately.” Tenya said,nodding towards the taxi.
“Can we run instead of taking the car?” (First Name) asked,laughing a bit when she saw how shocked they looked. “What,didn’t expect me to wanna run?”
“Honestly,we don’t know anything about you..” Izuku said,chuckling a bit awkwardly. “What exactly did you do in America,anyways..?”
“I went to a private school for Quirk training during the day,and then I lived with my dad in the forest at night. It was only around twenty miles away,so I got used to running long distances.. Is it against the rules for me to run or something?” (First Name) told them,yawning a little.
“You ran twenty miles for school every day?” Denki asked,turning pale at even the idea of it. “I could never.. I’m taking the taxi,you guys can run..”
“If you’re willing to run,then we can,but you can’t use your Quirk,” Izuku told her,his eyes widening when (First Name) took off running after shoving her bag in Tenya’s arms. “Hey,do you even know where you’re going!?”
“I’ll figure it out!” (First Name) shouted,laughing a bit as she ran eagerly. She was ecstatic to see a city again,her tails wagging happily. People didn’t seem freaked out by her looking ‘strange’,and she realized Mezo was probably happier here than he had ever been in their hometown.
Jumping onto the rail at the top of a fence,(First Name) looked around,her eyes sparkling as she looked over the new town she’d be living in. She was able to see buildings for miles,she was able to smell all sorts of food stands,and she loved it. In the distance,she saw U.A.,the girl grinning as she jumped down and ran towards it quickly.

(First Name) stopped for a second to catch her breath as she arrived at U.A.,looking around eagerly. Her tails wagged wildly when she saw a familiar boy with six arms,running over and hugging him from behind. “Mezo!”
Mezo panicked a bit when he felt someone randomly hug him,the boy turning quickly. He froze up when he saw her,absolutely speechless for a moment. “(First Name)..?” He asked in disbelief,his eyes widening when he could suddenly see color again. “It’s really you!” He shouted,picking her up and hugging her tightly as he began laughing.
“You’ve gotten so tall,Mezo! I almost couldn’t recognize you!” (First Name) told him,laughing a bit as she held onto him.
“Couldn’t recognize me? Seriously? I could hardly recognize you! Geez,you’ve changed a lot!” Mezo said,putting her back on the ground and circling her curiously. “You grew two more tails,and you grew into your ears!”
“I know,right? They used to be huge,but they actually look normal now,right?” (First Name) asked eagerly,grinning at him.
“How’d you know I would be here,though?” Mezo asked,chuckling a bit as he looked her over. She’d only gotten more beautiful in his eyes,and he loved it.
“Since you promised me you’d become a strong hero,I knew you’d get into a good school that offered a strong hero course,so I kept up to date with the news as best as I could! When I found out you go here,I applied for a transfer!” (First Name) told him,giggling. “It’s so good to be able to see color again!”
“I missed it,” Mezo admitted,looking down at her. “And I missed you..”
“I missed you way more!” (First Name) said,spinning around happily and laughing. “This place looks amazing,Mezo! People don’t stare or throw things!”
“Everyone here is nice,” Mezo told her,chuckling a bit before realizing Fumikage was staring at him like he was crazy. “Ah,Tokoyami,this is (First Name). She’s my soulmate.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Fumikage told the girl calmly,a bit amused by how happy Mezo seemed over the girl’s arrival.
“It’s nice to meet you as well,Tokoyami!” (First Name) said,giggling. “I look forward to becoming your friend!”
While (First Name) began to catch up on lost time with Mezo,the taxi finally arrived,her escorts getting out. “I told you she’d already be here!” Denki told Tenya as he walked over to her.
“(First Name),running off like that was highly rude of you!” Tenya said as he marched over,still holding the bag.
“Sorry,sorry! I wanted to see Mezo again!” (First Name) said,taking her bag. “Thanks,Iida!”
“You dumped your bag on him?” Mezo asked,sighing when she nodded. “Please forgive her,Iida,it appears she was too eager and forgot her manners.”
“It’s my job as the class rep to make sure everyone is well taken care of,but I can’t assure that everyone will enjoy her boisterous attitude.” Tenya said,pushing his glasses up.
“You’re super fast,(First Name)! Did you even use your Quirk?!” Izuku asked her,amazed by how fast she had been.
“My Quirk is ‘Kitsune’,and it’s always active! I’m not an actual fox,obviously,but I have fox-like attributes,a fox form,and access to foxfire,like in the legends,” (First Name) told him,happy to be talking about her Quirk. “And I’m really flexible and fast! Running is a lot of fun!”
“I didn’t expect you to be able to disappear that quickly,though! It was awesome!” Izuku told her,grinning. “Can I draw you in my analysis notebook?!”
“Sure,but my mask always stays on.” (First Name) told him,giggling.
“For now,(First Name) needs to head to the dorms and unpack her bag while we get to class. She’s only meant to move in today.” Tenya said,sighing a little.
“Then I’ll see you guys later!” (First Name) told them,slinging her backpack onto her shoulder and waving before running off.
“She’s like a little kid..” Denki muttered,amazed that she had so much energy.
“She’s not changed much..” Mezo said,smiling underneath his mask. “I’m glad..”
The school day dragged on for what felt like forever,and the entirety of Class 2-A was shocked when they returned to their dorms to see the girl dancing around as she set the tables.
Minoru was convinced he saw an angel; a girl in a skirt and an oversized sweater was definitely there for him to grope. He launched himself towards her,Hanta wrapping him in tape before he could touch her.
“Is that the transfer student?” Momo asked,absolutely amazed that the girl was acting so carefree even after noticing their presence.
“(First Name),what are you doing?” Mezo asked,unable to hold back a chuckle.
“I made everyone dinner! You guys were working hard all day today,right? I just wanted to do something special!” (First Name) said,setting the last plate down. There were all sorts of pots and pans floating around,the girl looking at her new classmates. “I made plenty,so everyone can just take a seat and tell me what they’d like!”
“Is that one of your powers as well?!” Izuku asked,grabbing his notebook quickly so he could scribble it down.
“Yep! I have telekinesis as well!” (First Name) said,giggling a bit as she watched everyone take a seat. “Ah,I should introduce myself properly,right? I’m (First Name) (Last Name),but you can all just call me (First Name)! Since people in America only use first names to refer to each-other,it’s more comfortable for me if you just call me (First Name)! I’m looking forward to working with you all in the future!” She told them,her tails wagging happily.

(First Name) and Mezo were quick to return to acting like children together,and the class couldn’t have been more shocked than when they returned to the dorms on day and saw Mezo carrying (First Name) on his shoulders as he ran around outside. “Charge,Mezo!” She shouted childishly,laughing a little.
“As you wish!” Mezo said,chuckling a bit as he ran quickly,turning and stepping quickly. When he felt her ankle almost slip from his grip as the girl fell back,he gripped tighter,pulling her leg so she was upright once again. “You alright?”
“Yep!” (First Name) said,giggling as she held onto him. “I’ve got you to protect me,right?”
“Yeah,yeah..” Mezo said,chuckling a bit as he continued to spin around. He had noticed his classmates,but he didn’t care right now.
“Is that really Shoji?” Izuku asked,staring at them in disbelief.
“There’s no way,right? Shoji’s nice,but he’s not like that..” Denki muttered,not able to look away from the scene.
“Mezo,I’m gonna try to stand,alright?” (First Name) asked,giggling a bit when Mezo told her not to. He stopped moving immediately,the girl carefully standing up on his shoulders. She threw her head back as she began to laugh,unable to stop herself from feeling proud.
“This is super dangerous,(First Name)! You could fall!” Mezo told her,sighing a bit. “Jump down!”
“I’m fine,Mezo! Even if I fall,all you have to do is catch me,right?” She asked,giggling a bit.
“I don’t know whether to be impressed or worried..” Eijiro muttered as he stared at them.
“(First Name),I said jump down!” Mezo repeated,not wanting to risk her falling off his shoulders.
“Fine,fine..” (First Name) muttered,jumping off his back. She flipped while in the air,grinning as she landed on her feet.
“You two shouldn’t be doing such risky moves!” Tenya scolded as he stomped over,finally snapping out of his daze.
“It’s not risky if I have great balance!” (First Name) said,grinning up at Tenya. “I’ve done much riskier things before,and Mezo’s always caught me,so there’s no point in being worried,right?”
“Why do you have to be so troublesome?!” Tenya asked,sighing as he fixed his glasses.
“It’s because I know I’m surrounded by heroes!” (First Name) giggled,knowing she was only angering Tenya more. “No matter what I do,you all will save me!”
“That’s no reason for you to do risky things!” Tenya shouted,frowning when (First Name) hid behind Mezo. “Forgive me for shouting,I forgot you don’t like it.”
“I’m sorry about her,Iida..” Mezo sighed,knowing (First Name)’s personality wasn’t easy for everyone to handle. “She’s just really happy to be able to relax here. I’ll be sure we don’t do anything so risky again.”
“Very well. I shall let it slide this time,but please stick to only doing gymnastics at appropriate times from now on.” Tenya sighed,deciding to go inside.
“Hey,(First Name),have you ever danced before?” Mina asked,grabbing the girl’s hands and grinning. “I think you’d be great at it!”
“Of course I’ve danced!” (First Name) said,twirling Mina around and grinning.
“You’re so cool,(First Name)!” Toru said,waving her hands around. “You’re awesome!”
Mezo watched in silence as (First Name) danced with their classmates,smiling a bit. He was glad she could be happy here.

(First Name)’s hero costume was soon ready,and everyone in class was amazed by the simplicity of it. The short kimono was a bit above her knees,the girl having a small pack strapped to her side.
“How come your costume is so simple,(First Name)?” Momo asked as she looked at her curiously.
“It’s ‘cause I don’t need any real support items that can’t fit in my pack,” (First Name) said,opening the pack and grinning. There were three medicinal sprays,a small pocket watch,and a small knife in the pack. “I need the medicinal sprays for when I save people,and the pocket watch is for me to time how long my illusions can last.”
“What’s the knife for?” Denki asked,looking at it curiously.
“It’s for me to transform,” (First Name) said,grabbing the knife. “I need to draw blood to turn into my fox form and use more of my power,but I can’t be around people when I transform,so I have to draw the blood myself.”
“You can’t control it still?” Mezo asked,frowning a bit. “Wasn’t that why you had to leave?”
“I can control it better now,but I still need to practice..” (First Name) said,putting the knife back and shutting the pouch.
“(Last Name),that’s what you’re practicing,so get the knife back out,” Shota ordered,sighing. “I need to see the extent of your powers.”
“Are you sure,sir?” (First Name) asked hesitantly,shutting her mouth immediately when she saw his expression. “Alright..” She muttered,grabbing the knife from her pouch and heading outside. The entire class followed curiously,Mezo hearing his own heartbeat. He had only seen (First Name)’s fox form once,back when she’d lost control of herself after he’d gotten hurt trying to protect her,and he could still remember the resulting destruction.
“You’ve got this,(Last Name)!” Denki called out,giving her a thumbs up.
(First Name) took a deep breath,pricking her finger. The second the blood dripped off her finger,before it even touched the ground,a giant fox stood in her place. Four tails waved as she looked around,taking in every scent in her surroundings and analyzing it. She could hear the amazed whispers from her classmates,but she tried to block them out.
Shota stared at the fox in silence,wondering why Nezu had warned him that the girl was dangerous when she seemed perfectly in control of herself. “Create an illusion. One as intricate as you’d like.” He ordered.
(First Name) shut her eyes and sat down,deciding what kind of illusion she should show. Thinking of one of her happiest memories,she created the image of a koi pond and a bridge,two familiar children walking the bridge; one one the rails,and the other holding her hand.
“Is that you,Shoji?” Fumikage asked as he stared at the illusion,amazed since he could hardly tell it wasn’t real.
“Yeah.” Mezo said,staring at the illusion with a fond smile that was hidden by his mask.
“Good,now get rid of the illusion and show me the foxfire.” Shota ordered his student,looking over the list of powers he’d been given.
(First Name) did as ordered,the illusion dispersing. She opened her eyes,lantern-shaped blue flames floating around the air. They weren’t hot enough to burn anything since she didn’t wish to set fire to anything,so she didn’t have to worry about hurting anyone.
“Make them disappear and then use your telekinesis.” Shota ordered,knowing it was the last power the girl had for now. According to Nezu,the girl wouldn’t be able to use the rest of her powers until she grew the rest of her tails.
(First Name) tensed up slightly when she was ordered to use her telekinesis,her ears flattening as she made the flames disappear. She let out a huff and then looked at her classmates,about to use her telekinesis to lift them up before her concentration was suddenly broken. She let out a loud growl as she knocked them all into the training building with her tails,only thinking of protecting them from whatever the source of the burning smell was.
“(First Name)!” Mezo shouted,knowing she would lose control if there was some sort of attack. When she didn’t look at him,he panicked a little,his heart racing when he saw her rush off towards the school gate.
“Shoji,you’ve known her longest,right?” Shota asked as he got up,looking over when the boy nodded. “Is this what people mean when they say she ‘loses control’?”
“Yes sir,” Mezo said,helping some of the others up. “When she thinks someone is going to hurt the people she wants to protect,she loses control,kinda like when Dark Shadow takes over Tokoyami..”
“How do we calm her down,then?” Shota asked,not sure how dangerous the girl actually could be and not wanting to find out.
“She’s only lost control once in front of me,and I had to convince her I was okay before she turned back into herself..” Mezo told him,looking at him. “I can try it again,but she knocked all of us back this time,so she probably won’t calm down unless we all go.”
“Of course..” Shota sighed,pinching his nose as he realized he had yet another problem student. “Let’s go. Nobody gets too close to her until she’s herself again,got it?”
“Yes sir!” The class said,following their teacher towards the gate. (First Name) was growling loudly at a man that had tried to blast his way in,keeping him pinned under one of her paws.
“(Last Name),that’s enough!” Shota shouted,using his scarf as a muzzle for her for now. He was amazed by how much strength she had,but when Hitoshi used his scarf to help,the girl wasn’t able to open her mouth. “That’s not a villain,he’s the man in charge of the gate! He was checking to see if it was sturdy enough!”
“Hey,(First Name),we’re all okay! Look,we’re safe!” Denki and Eijiro shouted,waving their arms. “We’re all fine!”
(First Name) jerked her head to the side,sending both Hitoshi and Shota flying,and let out a growl when she saw Izuku and Tenya go to save them. She was desperately trying to calm herself down,but she couldn’t concentrate until she heard Mezo shout her name.
“(First Name),calm down! Look,none of us are hurt,right?” Mezo called out,relaxing a little when she lifted her paw off the man and walked over to him. She reminded him of a big dog when she was like this,but he shook the thought away and let out a sigh. “Come on now,turn back into yourself,okay? We’re all fine.”
(First Name)’s tails wagged slightly,the girl turning back into herself. She reached up,feeling the familiar material of her mask covering her face,and let out a sigh. “Sorry,sorry.. I told you I still can’t control it completely..” She said,knowing she’d be in trouble.
Instead of screaming at her,Shota just ordered her to write an apology letter to the man and sent her to the dorms for the rest of the day.

(First Name) grinned as she ran through the hallway,knocking on each door and shouting for everyone to get to the common room. She had prepared a surprise for everyone,and she was eager to have a fun day with everyone.
On the other side of the building,Mezo calmly knocked on each boy’s door,telling them to come to the common room one-by-one before heading down to the common room himself. He chuckled when he saw the giant blanket fort (First Name) had made around the projector,walking over calmly.
“Are the boys on their way?” (First Name) asked,grinning at him. “The girls are all crawling out of bed right now!”
“They’re coming. Sato made a bunch of sweets,and you’ve already made all of the popcorn,right?” Mezo asked,thinking her excitement was absolutely adorable.
“Of course I’ve made the popcorn! We’re watching a bunch of movies today,pigging out,and bonding!” (First Name) said,grinning at him.
“What’s going on..? What’s up with the blanket fort?” Momo asked as she walked over,giggling a bit when she realized (First Name) was the one who’d built it.
“We’re bonding as a class today!” (First Name) said,her tails wagging wildly. “Everyone gets their own pillow and blanket,so grab yours and come on!”
“How long did it take you to set all of this up?” Ochaco asked,looking around in amazement.
“I haven’t slept in two days!” (First Name) said,giggling. “I had to beg Mr.Aizawa for permission to use a projector,and then I had to convince Mr.Yamada to let us use some of his speakers,so I’ve been planning this for two weeks,but gathering brand new blankets and pillows for everyone took most of yesterday,and then last night I had to set all of this up,so I’ve been busy!”
“This is awesome!” Denki shouted,being the first of the boys to arrive. He grabbed the Pikachu blanket (First Name) had bought,wrapping himself in it and grinning.
“We’re doing a movie day? Hell yeah!” Katsuki shouted,grabbing the All Might blanket (First Name) had bought him and flopping down. While the boy was usually against hanging out with his classmates,watching movies as a class meant he could cuddle with Eijiro without people looking at him like he was weird,so he was excited.
“This is super manly,(First Name)!” Eijiro shouted as he grabbed his Crimson Riot blanket and flopped down beside Katsuki.
“This will be a pleasant revelry in the darkness.” Fumikage said as he grabbed his Hawks blanket,walking over and sitting down on an empty part of the floor.
One-by-one,the rest of Class 2-A made their appearance,grabbing their blankets and taking their seats. All of them were excited for different reasons,but they spent the day laughing and binging movies until they all eventually passed out. When Shota saw all of them,he just chuckled and walked off.

(First Name) gripped Mezo’s hand as they walked,gigging a bit as she leaned against his shoulder. “Hey,Mezo,what’s your favorite color?”
“The color of your eyes,” Mezo said without hesitation,walking calmly. “It was one of the first colors I ever saw,and it’s my favorite.”
“Really?” (First Name) asked,giggling a bit as she let go of his hand and skipped ahead. “What’s your favorite animal,Mezo?”
“Foxes.” Mezo told her,chuckling when she began to whine about him being cheesy.
“You’re so childish!” (First Name) said,falling silent suddenly when she saw a little girl looking over the edge of a bridge’s railing nearby. She moved without thinking when she saw the girl slip over the edge,flinging herself off after her.
Mezo’s body moved purely on instinct,grabbing onto (First Name)’s leg and hauling her back over the edge quickly. Once she was safely back onto the side with the little girl in her arms,he let go of her,absolutely pissed. “Why the hell don’t you ever think?!”
“Mezo..?” (First Name) squeaked out,setting the little girl down next to her mother. “Hey,calm down..”
“Do you have any idea how dangerous that was?! If I hadn’t been here,what would’ve happened to you?” Mezo asked,trying to calm himself down.
“But you’re always here,right? I would’ve thought up a different plan if you weren’t here,but I was able to move without thinking because you were by my side,” (First Name) told him,frowning a little. “Are you seriously angry at me?”
“No,but just.. Don’t make me worry like that again,okay?” He asked,turning to the little girl. “And you need to be sure you don’t play on the railing anymore,okay?”
“Sorry..” The little girl said,gripping onto her mother’s leg.
“Thanks,you two.. I took my eyes off of her for just a second and she managed to get up there and fall before I even noticed..” The mother said,bowing deeply.
“Don’t worry about it! We’re heroes-in-training,so it’s part of our job!” (First Name) told the woman,ruffling the little girl’s hair. “You guys just need to be more careful from now on,alright? Not everyone is able to catch people like me and Mezo!”
“I see that,” The mother said,giggling a bit. “I’ll be cheering for you two in the future,then!”
“Thanks for the support!” (First Name) said,grabbing Mezo’s hand. “We’ll see you around,ma’am!” She called out,pulling Mezo away happily. She knew he wasn’t angry now that he’d scolded her,so she was able to go back to being carefree now. No matter how far she fell,she knew Mezo would always catch her.

“Hey,Mezo..?” (First Name) asked softly one day when she was snuggled up beside him. Months had passed since her dive off the bridge to capture the little girl,but there was a question that had been pestering her for a while now.
“What is it?” Mezo asked,looking down at her. He could tell she was anxious about something,but he couldn’t tell what it was.
“Do you hate not seeing my face?” (First Name) asked,looking down nervously.
“It doesn’t bother me that I’ve never seen your face… I’m in love with you for who you are,not what you look like,” Mezo told her,pulling her closer. “What about you? You don’t hate not seeing my face?”
“Of course I don’t hate that you wear a mask! I know you’re scared you’ll hurt people somehow by showing your face,and I’ll always be ready to look when you’re ready to show me,but I’ll never force you into it.” (First Name) told him,looking up at him. “I’m in love with your personality!”
“Then it’s fine,” Mezo said,pressing a kiss to the forehead of her mask through his own. He wasn’t ready to show her his face quite yet,but he trusted she’d accept him when he was ready to. No matter how ugly he thought he was,he knew (First Name) would always love him.

“What do I love about you?” Mezo repeated the question,before letting out a chuckle. “I love that I can tell when you’re happy by the tone of your voice.”
“Is that all?” (First Name) asked,pouting a bit as she looked at him.
“I like that I can tell when you’re pouting just by how your voice changes.. I love how you’ve always unapologetically been yourself. I love how your tails wag when you’re excited,and how you sleep straight through lunch sometimes after you’ve overused your Quirk.. I love how you act like a little kid to cheer other people up,and I love how you look when you’re reading. I love how you never answer questions in class because you want to give everyone else a chance to answer,even though you always know the answer,” Mezo said,chuckling as he looked down at her. He knew she was blushing underneath her mask simply by how her body language had changed,but he wanted to hear what she loved about him. “And what do you love about me?”
“I love..” (First Name) trailed off,looking down at the ground shyly. “I love how kind you are,and how you’re always there to catch me.. I love how you keep your promises,and how you’re willing to do anything you can to help even total strangers.. I love how you don’t judge people for how they look,and how you try your best to make people see you as less intimidating because you’re just a giant teddybear..”
“A teddybear?” Mezo asked,chuckling. “That’s the first time I’ve been called that.”
“That’s the first thing I noticed about you when you saved me back then,actually.. I saw this towering giant of a kid,a whole head taller than me,and I couldn’t help but think ‘a teddybear came to save me’,” (First Name) admitted,holding onto him. “And because you were willing to approach me,and because of how patient you were,I was able to see color for the first time.”
“I’m glad,then..” Mezo said softly,holding her close. “What did we do with those notebooks,anyways?”
“I still have them!” (First Name) said,sitting up when she remembered them. “They’re on my bookshelf!”
“Seriously? Go get them,then!” Mezo said,chuckling when she ran inside to go get them.
After (First Name) returned with the notebooks they had used for communicating back when they’d first met,the duo spent the day laughing as they reread their old conversations.

(First Name) and Mezo weren’t the type to let down their guard often,so the class was in shock when they saw them asleep on the couch together. Minoru walked over immediately,reaching out to grab (First Name)’s mask. “It’s time we see her face..” He muttered,his eyes widening when Tsuyu threw him away using her tongue.
“You’re not allowed to do that,Mineta! It’s super rude to even try and touch someone’s mask without permission!” Momo scolded him angrily,Tenya nodding.
Katsuki,who had been the last of his class to leave the pool,walked in and raised an eyebrow. “What’s Ponytail angry about?” He asked Eijiro.
“Mineta tried to grab (First Name)’s mask.” Eijiro said,absolutely disgusted by the short boy’s disrespectful move. Even he knew better than to try and force someone into showing their face.
“Hah..?!” Katsuki shouted,his temper flaring up immediately upon hearing the news. While he wouldn’t admit it aloud,(First Name) was one of his favorite ‘idiots’ in the class,and he wouldn’t tolerate someone messing with her. He stormed over to Minoru and grabbed him,ready to blow the boy up. “You stupid grape bastard!”
“Not in the face!” Minoru whimpered out,covering his face as best as he could.
(First Name) woke up and whined a bit,the class going silent when they heard the noise. “What’s going on..?” She asked sleepily,watching as Katsuki threw Minoru off to the side.
“It’s nothing. That shitty grape was just being a nuisance.” Katsuki growled out,stomping by her after giving everyone a warning glare. He didn’t want (First Name) to know what the grape had attempted; it was better if she was under the impression he had just attacked Minoru for being annoying.
“Oh.. Well thanks for shutting him up,Bakugo! You’re the best!” (First Name) said,her tails wagging happily when the boy patted her head as he passed.
Out of everyone in the class,Eijiro was the only one to realize just how much his boyfriend liked (First Name),and he chuckled to himself as he followed the blond upstairs.

“You’re going to be with a different pro hero for the internships.. Are you sure you’ll be okay?” Mezo asked,looking down at her.
“Of course I’ll be okay! I’m super strong,Mezo!” (First Name) said,giggling a bit. “We can partner up next year,okay?”
“Alright.. Promise you’ll text me once you’re there?” Mezo asked,trying to calm himself down. He couldn’t help but be anxious.
“Of course!” (First Name) said,completely confident that she’d be fine.
“No throwing yourself off any bridges,okay?” Mezo asked,patting her head.
“If you’re not there to catch me,I promise not to throw myself off of anything,’kay?” (First Name) asked,grinning up at him.
“Alright..” Mezo said,sighing a bit. “I trust you.”
“You’d better stay safe as well,alright?” (First Name) asked,before remembering the present she’d made him. Reaching into her pocket,she pulled the necklace out,tugging on his shirt to let him know she wanted him to bend down. Once he did,she reached up and clipped the necklace onto his neck,stepping back once she was sure it was on him. “It’s a good luck charm,and if I’m ever in a pinch,it’ll light up. All you have to do then is break it,and the flame inside will lead you to wherever I am,okay?”
“Thank you,” Mezo said,looking down at the necklace. “I’ll wear it always.”

A year passed,and Mezo completely forgot about the necklace until the first time it lit up during a villain attack. (First Name)’s words came flooding back to him and he grabbed the necklace,gripping it tightly and yanking it off his neck before smashing it on the ground. He watched as the flame floated in front of him,reaching out and touching it. It appeared a few feet ahead of him,the boy running through it.
Each step brought him closer to where he assumed (First Name) was,but he was thrown off to the side when a giant paw sent him flying towards a bridge suddenly. He grabbed onto the railing quickly,pulling himself up and looking in the direction he’d been hit from with wide eyes. A giant wolf-like man loomed above the city,and Mezo felt his heartbeat pick up speed when the man stepped onto the bridge,his grip tightening when he felt the bridge start to give way. He looked down at the water underneath him,terrified of what would happen if he fell in. He couldn’t catch anyone right now.
The bridge gave way after the man stomped on it once,but Mezo didn’t fall; nobody that had been on the bridge fell. Mezo looked around,his eyes widening when he saw (First Name) in her fox form. She used her telekinesis to move the bridge and everyone off to the side,her tails lashing as she focused. Once she was sure they were all safe,she set them down,trying to figure out how she should take out the villain; a full-out battle would destroy the buildings nearby and cause casualties,but she couldn’t think of anything else.
“(First Name),what are you thinking?!” Mezo shouted as loud as he could,seeing her fur bristle when the villain stepped across the gap where the bridge had once been.
(First Name) went berserk when the villain tried to grab Mezo,five new tails suddenly appearing. She was on the man in seconds,her teeth latching onto his shoulder as she knocked him into the water before he could touch Mezo. She fell in with him,but her grip on his shoulder didn’t falter even as she went underwater with him.
“(First Name)! (First Name),what are you doing?!” Mezo shouted as he ran over to the edge of the cliff,looking down with wide eyes. When he saw blood start to stain the water,he felt ready to faint,panic filling him as he made eyes on all of his extra limbs to see better. He could hardly make her shape out as she wrestled with the man,her claws cutting into his skin. “(First Name),that’s enough! You’ll kill him!”
(First Name) didn’t stop until she was sure the man had passed out,the girl passing out and turning human immediately afterwards. The pros arrived right on time to get both of them out of the water before they could drown,pulling them to the edge of the cliff. Mezo grabbed (First Name) immediately,pulling her into his arms as he struggled to calm down. He had never seen her feral like that,and he didn’t want to see her like that again.
When (First Name) woke up in the hospital two days later,she wasn’t surprised when Mezo shouted at her for being careless,the girl giggling a bit as she forced herself upright. She had two freshly-healed scars on her side from the fight,but she didn’t care much. “I caught you this time,right? You didn’t get hurt,did you?” She asked.
“Yeah,but that doesn’t make what you did right! You went running off the edge of a cliff!” Mezo snapped,sighing a bit. “I thought I was gonna lose you!”
“I rammed him off the edge because that was the only option.. If we’d fought on land,we would have destroyed the city,” (First Name) said,looking up at him. “And I had to protect everyone,’cause we’re heroes,right?”
“That doesn’t make up for what you did,(First Name)..” Mezo sighed,his eyes widening when the girl suddenly took off her mask; the enchantment she’d placed on it had kept it from coming off unless she took it off herself,so she hadn’t lost it in the fight. Mezo soaked in every detail of her face; she had a cute little nose that was absolutely adorable,dimples on her right cheek,and a scar trailing down her face. He reached out to touch it without thinking,pulling his hand back when (First Name) flinched back. “Sorry,I just..”
“It’s okay,I just needed a moment..” (First Name) said,grabbing his hand and pulling it back to her face. “It’s because I love you that I did it,okay? A few scars have never hurt anyone,right?”
“Right..” Mezo said softly,before realizing it was his turn. While (First Name) hid a beautiful face behind her mask,he hid a monstrous one. Reaching up,he pulled his mask down,looking her in the eye to see her expression change; he was amazed when her smile didn’t falter.
“You’re beautiful..” (First Name) said softly,soaking in the details of his face. While it was a little longer than most people’s faces,and while she could make out some sharp teeth,she didn’t care; he was the same Mezo she’d fallen in love with. Seeing the disbelief in his eyes,she slowly reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck,pulling him down so he was even closer. Once she was within range,she pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. “I love you,Mezo.”
“I love you too,(First Name)..” Mezo said softly,holding her close and pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Being Mezo Shoji’s soulmate meant long walks outside after sunset,because nobody was ever stupid enough to try and hurt them when they were together. Being his soulmate meant dancing at random times throughout the day,even when there wasn’t music. Being his soulmate meant writing more than talking,and texting more than phonecalls. Being his soulmate meant always having someone there to catch you when you fell.
