Tamaki X Reader
(Hey guys! This is the Tamaki Amajiki one-shot I’ve been promising! I’m sorry if it’s not exactly what you expected, but I worked pretty hard on it,so let me know what you think! Choosing a song for this one took forever! Also, the song for this chapter is ‘Saturn’ by Sleeping at Last!)
You taught me the courage of stars before you left.
How light carries on endlessly, even after death.
Six-year-old (First Name) looked over at her best-friend,smiling brightly at him. “Tamaki, let’s go look at the stars in the park tonight!”
“H.. Huh..? But.. But we’ll get in trouble..” Little Tamaki told her nervously, fiddling with his fingers. (First Name) just grinned at him, putting her own tiny hands over his.
“It’s gonna be fine! Our neighborhood is super safe!” (First Name) told him, squeezing his hands. “Just sneak out with me,okay?”
“I… I guess..” Tamaki muttered, the words pouring out before he could think. When (First Name) asked him to go with her,how could he deny her? He just wasn’t brave enough.
“Pinky promise?” (First Name) asked excitedly, her (Eye Color) eyes sparkling as she held her pinky out. Tamaki looked up at her and nodded, wrapping his own pinky around hers and smiling a little.
“I promise.” He told her, flinching when their teacher scolded them for talking without permission.
“Sorry Ms.Leone..” The two said in unison, looking up at their teacher cutely.
“Just don’t do it again, okay? We have break time soon,so wait until then, alright?” Ms.Leone asked, her voice softening; she couldn’t bring herself to be mad at them for very long.
“Yes ma’am!” They said in unison,(First Name) grinning at Tamaki.
That night, both children snuck out of their houses. For (First Name),it was easy; her parents were never home at night, and her babysitter was always busy with her little brother. For Tamaki,it wasn’t that hard either; his parents always assumed he was fast asleep in bed because he was always a well-mannered child.
“Tamaki,it’s this way!” The winged girl told him as she grabbed his hand and pulled him along, little Tamaki stumbling after her.
When they made it to the park,(First Name) climbed up to the top of the playset,Tamaki close behind her. When he almost slipped, she caught his hand, the boy steadying himself and crawling up to sit beside her.
“How come you wanted to come here..?” Tamaki asked once he was comfortable, looking over at her. Little (First Name) just looked up at the stars, unsure of what to say.
“Tamaki, what’s your favorite constellation?” She asked after a few minutes of silence. Tamaki just stared at her,a little put-off by the fact that she had answered his question with another question.
“I.. I don’t know much about the stars..” Tamaki admitted, looking up at the darkened sky. “What’s yours..?”
“I like Leo,’cause it means ‘courage’! And it’s a lion,” (First Name) said, pointing the constellation out so he could see it. “Since mama and papa say each constellation has a story,I’ve been studying them..”
“Why are you acting so weird..?” Tamaki asked,(First Name) looking over at him and grinning.
“I’m always weird, aren’t I?” She asked, flapping her little butterfly wings and grinning at him. “The stars are infinite,Tamaki! They’re always gonna be shining, which is super cool!”
“Hey,why are you two kids out this late?!” A cop shouted when he saw them while he was patrolling, running over to them. “Kids should be in bed by now!”
“We’re gonna get in trouble..!” Tamaki said anxiously, gripping onto (First Name)’s hand as tightly as he could. He was terrified that his parents would be upset with him if they found out he’d snuck out,so the boy just threw his head back and started to cry.
“Hey,it’s mean to shout! Tamaki doesn’t like shouting!” (First Name) scolded the cop, puffing out her cheeks as she flew over to the cop. She couldn’t really fly properly, but she wouldn’t let someone ‘bully’ Tamaki.
“Where are your parents?” The cop asked, sighing a little as he held his arms out to help Tamaki down from the top of the playset. “You two shouldn’t be alone out here.”
“The.. They’re at home..” Tamaki whimpered out, wiping at his eyes as he climbed into the cop’s arms. He was terrified.
“Mine are at work,so we can’t bug them,” (First Name) told the cop, putting her hand on her hip as she looked up at the cop. “Don’t get Tamaki in trouble, either.”
“How did you guys get out here, then?” The cop asked as he set Tamaki down, trying his best to be patient.
“We snuck out,” (First Name) admitted, looking away. She knew they were misbehaving, but she wanted to spend as much time as she could with Tamaki. “But you can’t tell on us,okay?”
“I can’t tell on you? Do you have any idea how dangerous it is for you two to be out this late?” The cop asked angrily,Tamaki’s eyes filling with tears as he started to cry once again. The cop panicked at how scared the boy seemed of him, unsure of what to do.
“Tamaki,it’s okay! You won’t get in trouble,” (First Name) soothed, patting her friend’s head and smiling at him. “I’ll make sure of it,okay?”
“B.. But ma.. Mama and papa will.. Will find out.. And they’ll be mad..” Little Tamaki whimpered out,(First Name) shaking her head.
“Uncle and auntie won’t be mad at you,but they’ll be mad at me. I’ll take the blame,’kay?” (First Name) asked,Tamaki sniffling and wiping his eyes. The cop watched them and sighed, deciding he’d let them off easy tonight.
“I’ll walk you both home, and I won’t tell your parents if you both promise never to do it again, alright?” He asked,(First Name) looking up at him with a hopeful expression.
“You promise?” She asked, relaxing when the cop nodded. “Isn’t that great,Tamaki? Neither of us will get in trouble!”
“Ye.. Yeah..” Tamaki sniffled, gripping onto her hand.
“Now lead the way.” The cop ordered,(First Name) doing as told.
When they made it to their houses hardly ten minutes later, the cop watched the children cimb back into their rooms. Little (First Name) boosted Tamaki onto his balcony, waiting until he was safely on it,and then climbed on top of a crate her parents kept by her window and onto her own balcony.
“Thanks,Mr.Cop!” The little girl told the cop,who just waved them off with a sigh and walked off with a chuckle.
Tamaki waved at (First Name) through his window before going to bed, curling up with his stuffed dragon and falling asleep quickly. He dreamed of dancing among the stars with (First Name) that night.
With shortness of breath, you explained the infinite.
How rare and beautiful it is to even exist.
Little (First Name) gripped onto the railing of her balcony as she stared up at the sliver of stars visible between her and Tamaki’s houses, listening to the fighting inside her house growing worse. It was a rare night where both of her parents were off work, but that was never a good thing for her.
“(First Name)..?” Tamaki asked sleepily as he pulled his door open and walked out onto his balcony. “What’s wrong..?”
“Did my light wake you?” (First Name) asked,Tamaki nodding a little bit.
“What time is it?” He asked,(First Name) shrugging.
“Hey,Tamaki,do you wanna hear about what I learned about today?” (First Name) asked,Tamaki staring at her in confusion. He didn’t really understand why she wanted to talk when it was so dark outside, but he wouldn’t question it.
“Go ahead.” Tamaki said, sitting down with his back to the railing of his balcony and staring into the darkness of his room. (First Name) did the same, staring at her brightly lit room.
“Today,I learned from mama that we’re really lucky to be alive,” (First Name) said, balling her fists up as she fought back tears. “She said that it’s a miracle that we were born,’cause we were both born the same year. She said we’re really lucky we got to grow up together.”
“But we haven’t grown up yet..” Tamaki told her,not looking at her. He knew she was crying, but he was too afraid to look; he couldn’t help her. He knew nothing about the fighting the girl heard at night.
“Mama said that being able to have friends makes us lucky,Tamaki..” (First Name) told him, burying her face in her knees. “Mama said she’s not allowed to have any ‘cause of papa..”
“How come?” Tamaki asked, gripping onto his dinosaur tightly. Hearing (First Name)’s sadness scared him,and he was too much of a coward to face her,so all he could do was clutch his dinosaur and hope she’d be happy.
“I dunno,” (First Name) lied, internally apologizing for lying to him. “But I have a new favorite constellation.”
“What is it?” Tamaki asked her softly, peering up at the sliver of stars visible between their houses.
“It’s called ‘Pegasus’,which is the winged horse.. It’s a pretty constellation,” (First Name) told him, looking up at the sky as well. “There’s a story of a man named Perseus going to save a woman named Andromeda, and he rides Pegasus there.”
“So Perseus rode Pegasus and saved a woman?” Tamaki asked, relaxing a little as they spoke about the stars.
“Yep.. Pegasus must have been really cool, don’t you think?” (First Name) told him, wiping at her eyes. “I wanna be able to save people like Pegasus did, like a hero!”
“Like a hero..?” Tamaki asked, smiling slightly. “Heroes are really cool, aren’t they..?”
“If I can become a hero, then I can save people.. My Quirk might not be the best for it,but I won’t give up..” (First Name) said, staring into her room. She wanted to save her parents right now,but there was no way she could. “I wanna be able to save anyone who asks for help..”
“I wanna be a hero, but I’m too much of a scaredy cat..” Tamaki told her, leaning against the railing even more.
“That’s not true,Tamaki! You’re already a hero!” (First Name) told him, turning to face him. “You save me whenever I’m feeling down!”
“But I can’t help you right now..” Tamaki said, turning to look at her when he heard her move. (First Name) just grinned at him through the bars of the balcony’s railing, shaking her head.
“Being able to teach you about stars helps me remember them, and being around you makes me feel braver!” She told him,Tamaki’s eyes widening.
“Really?” He asked, turning to look in his room when the light flipped on. His mother looked around the room and then towards the balcony, walking over to the glass door and sliding it open. She laughed as she looked down at her son and his friend, not surprised they were up so late at night.
“What are you two talking about?” She asked, bending down and picking Tamaki up.
“We were talking about the stars.. I woke him up by accident. Sorry, auntie.” (First Name) said, looking up at her.
“Well,as much as I love you teaching Tamaki about the stars,it’s time he gets back to sleep, okay? You should head to bed as well,(First Name). Tell your mama to read you a story or something, alright?” The woman asked, little (First Name) nodding as she stood up and smiled.
“Night,Tamaki! Night, auntie!” She told them, heading inside after they said the same to her.
While Tamaki slept peacefully for the rest of that night, little (First Name) just laid in bed, crying herself to sleep.
I couldn’t help but ask
For you to say it all again.
Two weeks later, little Tamaki looked out his window, his eyes widening when he saw a moving truck.
“Mama, why’s there a moving truck outside of (First Name)’s house?” He asked his mother as he walked down to the kitchen. The woman’s smile faded when she heard her son ask the question, her guilty conscience already berating her for everything.
“Well (First Name)’s mom and dad are breaking up..” The woman said, not quite sure how to explain it to her son. “So they’re moving..”
“(First Name)’s leaving..?” Tamaki asked, staring up at her in confusion. The woman slowly nodded, trying to come up with a way to explain.
“They’ve been packing for a few days now, which is why (First Name) hasn’t been going to school.” She told him,her eyes widening when her son went stomping out of the house.
Tamaki had been wondering for nearly a week now why he hadn’t seen (First Name) at school. When he’d tried to go over to play, his mother had always distracted him. When he’d tried to get (First Name) to talk to him on the balcony at night, she’d never even opened her door.
“(First Name),what’s going on..?” He asked the little girl when he saw her,(First Name) just gripping her backpack full of toys tighter.
“We’re leaving..” She told him, looking down at the bag as her father kept loading boxes into the back of the truck. She didn’t want to leave Tamaki, let alone leave her home, but her parents wouldn’t let her stay.
“How come?” He asked, his usual muttering gone. He was always anxious, but the idea of (First Name) leaving downright terrified him. “Why are you leaving me?”
“Mama and papa are getting a divorce, like Seiki’s parents did.. So mama said we’re moving in with my grandma and grandpa..” (First Name) said, gripping the bag even tighter as she tried to fight back her tears.
It was silent between the children for a few minutes,(First Name)’s parents passing them with boxes as the duo stood there.
When (First Name)’s mother told her to get in the car was when Tamaki worked up the courage to speak.
“(First Name),what’s your favorite constellation now..?” Tamaki asked her as he sniffled, trying not to cry. He knew talking about the stars always made (First Name) feel better, and that was the only reason he could bring himself to ask about them. “What does the Leo constellation mean..? And who did Perseus go to save..? What’s the prettiest constellation? Which one is the hunting one?”
“The.. My favorite is still Pegasus.. And.. And the Leo constellation stands for courage.. And Perseus went to save Andromeda.. And all of the constellations are pretty.. And the hunter is Orion..” (First Name) sniffled, dropping her backpack and hugging Tamaki tightly as she began to cry. She had wanted to say goodbye with a smile, but she couldn’t; Tamaki Amajiki was the only person she had ever seen outshine the stars.
As the children sobbed,(First Name)’s mother just grabbed her backpack and threw it in the car, grabbing her daughter’s arm and pulling her away from Tamaki. Tamaki’s mother held him back from going after them, trying to console her heartbroken son as the car and moving truck disappeared down the street.
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen.
Tamaki couldn’t sleep properly for a few days after (First Name) left, waking up in tears every few hours. He didn’t go to school, either, his mother letting him stay home since she knew he wasn’t ready to face a classroom full of people without (First Name) there.
“Tamaki, you need to try and eat..” The woman told her son, rubbing his back. Tamaki just gripped his dinosaur as he curled up even more, just letting out a little sniffle.
“I’m not hungry…” The little boy muttered, his mother trying her best to comfort him.
“I know you don’t feel like eating, but you have to eat something today.. You’ve hardly eaten the last few days..” She told him, reaching out to pat his head.
“I said I’m not hungry!” Tamaki snapped, slapping her hand away and burying his face in his dinosaur. His mother sat there in silence at first, before she just let out a sigh.
“Hey,(First Name) taught you about the stars, didn’t she..? Why don’t you write about it?” She asked,Tamaki peeking out at her.
“Wr.. Write it down…?” He asked, watching as his mother grabbed his little diary.
“Write down everything you remember that she told you about,” His mother told him, grabbing a pen. “You’ll be able to remember it forever if you do,you know?”
“But.. But what if I still forget..?” He asked, sitting up and wiping his eyes. “What if I get it all wrong?”
“Then at least you tried,” She told him, setting the diary and pen in his lap with a soft smile. “And once you’re done,we can eat together, alright?”
“Al.. alright..” Tamaki told her, watching as his mother left the room. He cracked his diary open and looked down at the pages, his last entry from a few weeks prior. His handwriting was still sloppy, but he had been quite happy to brag about how he and (First Name) had gone to the planetarium together.
‘(First Name) is my best-friend. She taught me about the stars. She said that the Leo constellation stands for courage. She said Perseus road on Pegasis to save Andrometa. She also said that the one who hunts is Oryan, and said her favorit is Pegasis.’
Once he was finished, little Tamaki crawled out of bed and carried his diary downstairs, wiping at his eyes and letting out a sniffle as he marched over to his mother. He held it out to her, letting her read it.
“You remembered all of this? Wow,Tamaki,(First Name) taught you a bunch, didn’t she?” His mother asked, laughing as she ruffled her son’s hair. The fact that he didn’t quite know how to spell everything was adorable to her,but she made a mental note to write it down in her journal so she could translate it for him when he grew up.
“Uh-huh.. (First Name)’s super smart..” Tamaki said, making grabby hands at his mother. The woman set his diary aside and picked him up,pressing a kiss to his forehead.
“You’ll meet her again someday, you know? You two are always gonna be best-friends!” She told him,Tamaki’s blue eyes sparkling at that. If he ever had the chance to meet (First Name) again,he vowed to take it.
I’d give anything to hear
You say it one more time,
Fifteen-year-old Tamaki looked around the indoor butterfly garden nervously, wanting to hide in a corner. While Mirio and Nejire were both shining with their usual confidence,he was radiating anxiety.
“Tamaki, come on! You like butterflies, right?” Nejire asked him excitedly, her eyes sparkling.
“B.. But there are a lot.. A lot of people here…” Tamaki muttered, hiding behind Mirio.
“Tamaki, the guy at the front desk said it’s only the three of us and two workers here. You don’t need to be anxious.” Mirio told him, chuckling a little.
“There are a lot of butterflies over there!” Nejire said suddenly, rushing off quickly. Mirio followed close behind her,and Tamaki followed close behind Mirio. When Nejire stopped only moments later,Mirio nearly bumped into her,Tamaki slamming into Mirio’s back.
“Ow..” Tamaki muttered, rubbing his face before peering out from behind Mirio. His eyes widened when he saw a familiar girl with butterfly wings surrounded by butterflies.
Tamaki couldn’t quite remember her at first,so he just stood there stupidly and stared. While Nejire was watching in stunned silence, and while Mirio was just looking at the girl curiously,Tamaki was completely frozen.
“(First Name)...?” He muttered after a few minutes of silence. Mirio turned to look at him,his eyes widening when he saw his friend’s face.
“Tamaki..? Do you know her?” He asked,Tamaki just nodding numbly.
“Tamaki looks so excited!” Nejire pointed out,Mirio covering her mouth casually.
“You alright?” The blond asked Tamaki, who just nodded and kept staring at (First Name),who had yet to notice them.
Tamaki knew it was her now; nobody else could ever look that beautiful. Nobody else could have such beautiful wings. Nobody else could ever have such beautiful (Hair Color) hair. Nobody else could ever have such exquisite (Eye Color) eyes. Nobody else could make his heart race like this.
“(First Name),it’s time for you to clock out! Stop playing with the butterflies!” One of her coworkers called out,(First Name) turning and laughing.
“I’m coming, sorry!” The girl called out, looking down at the butterflies on her hand with a soft smile. “You guys need to get off, okay? I have to go now.” She told them, still completely oblivious to the guests standing off to her side.
Tamaki watched in stunned silence as the butterflies flew away from her, completely speechless. He had never seen such a beautiful sight before, and he didn’t know how to feel. He wanted to call out to her,but he couldn’t bring himself to speak.
“Tamaki, don’t you wanna say hi to her?” Mirio asked, watching as the girl started to walk away.
“I.. I can’t.” Tamaki said, clenching his fists. He was still nothing more than a coward.
Mirio and Nejire didn’t push the boy for any more information after that, both of them deciding it was for the best that they didn’t force him into saying anything that could make him uncomfortable.
When Tamaki got home that night,he dug through his desk, eventually pulling out the little diary he had written in when he was a child. He flipped through the pages until he found the one he was seeking, running his thumb over the words he had written so long ago.
His mother found him asleep at his desk that night, and she smiled when she saw the little diary. Draping a blanket over him,she kissed his forehead and flipped the light off, knowing her son had once again met his (First Name).
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes.
Mirio and Nejire noticed a change in Tamaki after their trip to the butterfly garden, but they didn’t ask him about it. When Tamaki asked them if they could go back the next week, they both just smiled and agreed.
When the day of their next trip to the butterfly garden arrived,Tamaki looked a bit more dressed up than usual, which made Mirio almost laugh at his friend.
Arriving at the butterfly garden went smoothly, though this time the man at the front desk greeted them all by name happily. After paying to get in,the trio walked in and started to look around,Mirio looking only for a hoard of butterflies.
It took nearly fifteen minutes before they finally spotted her asleep in the corner. She had her back against one of the fake trees as she slept, seeming completely at ease. Butterflies were flying around her,but none of them were landing on her this time; Tamaki knew it was because they would wake her if they landed on her.
“So you’re in love with her?” Nejire whispered to Tamaki as she sat down a good distance away from (First Name).
“In.. In love?” Tamaki asked, looking at her with wide eyes. “It.. It’s not like that..”
“Why not? She’s pretty, and you two were friends before we even met each-other,right?” Mirio asked, confident he knew Tamaki better than anyone else. Mirio had known Tamaki since third grade, and he’d never seen Tamaki make the face he did when he looked at (First Name).
“I.. She.. We’re friends..” Tamaki muttered, looking down to hide his face. “Well,we were..”
“Then how about I ask her on a date for you?” Mirio asked, covering his mouth to stop himself from laughing when he saw how panicked Tamaki looked.
“You can’t do that,Mirio!” The blue-haired boy said,Mirio bursting into laughter. Nejire started to laugh as well, which woke up (First Name). The trio fell silent when they realized she had woken up,(First Name) just staring at them in awkward silence.
“Ah,sorry! We didn’t mean to wake you!” Nejire said, tilting her head to the side when she watched the girl stand up and the butterflies scatter.
It happened in almost an instant; one second,(First Name) just stood up,and the next second she was launching herself into Tamaki’s arms. Tamaki stumbled back but managed to catch her,Mirio helping his friend stay on his feet.
“Tamaki..?! It’s you, right? Tamaki Amajiki, right?” She asked, looking up at him excitedly. When he nodded, she buried her face in his chest as she hugged him even tighter. “You’ve really not changed much since we were kids!”
“Y.. You haven’t changed either..” Tamaki muttered, his face bright red as he held her close. “Y.. You’re still.. Energetic…”
“Of course I’m energetic! I haven’t seen you in,like, forever! You’ve gotten way taller!” She told him, stepping back and grinning up at him. “You’re like a giant now,Tama! I used to be taller than you!”
“Sh.. Shut up about that..” Tamaki muttered, looking away and rubbing the back of his neck. He was really happy, and nervous, and just about everything in between. “What.. What have you been up to?”
“Nothing much, honestly! I started working here almost a month ago,and I got into a pretty good highschool,so things have been alright. What about you?” (First Name) told him, looking up at him and smiling brightly.
“He goes to U.A. with us!” Nejire told her, grinning when she saw how excited (First Name) looked.
“Tama, you’re gonna be a hero?! That’s so cool!” She told him, grinning.
“Are.. Aren’t you?” Tamaki asked, looking at her. When he saw her grin falter,he panicked a little.
“I’m not gonna be a hero anymore,’cause I found things that I like to do more,” (First Name) told him, internally apologizing for lying to him once again. “I’m gonna be a nurse instead.”
“A nurse..? But you hate hospitals..” Tamaki muttered, knowing something was off.
“I don’t hate them anymore,actually.. I go to the hospital all the time to volunteer.” (First Name) told him, grinning.
“Well I’m Mirio Togata, but you can just call me Mirio,” The blond interjected suddenly, holding his hand out and smiling at (First Name). “I’ve been Tamaki’s friend since we were in third grade!”
“It’s nice to meet you, then,Mirio!” (First Name) told him, shaking his hand.
“Ooh,we’re doing introductions now?! I’m Nejire Hado, but you can just call me Nejire!” The girl told (First Name) energetically, grabbing her hand and shaking it. “Give me your number! Let’s be friends!”
“Ah,sure..” (First Name) said, giggling a bit at how energetic Nejire seemed. “Tama, can I have your number? We can hang out sometime and catch up like old times.”
“Su.. Sure..” Tamaki muttered, digging his phone out of his pocket with red cheeks.
After they had all exchanged numbers and (First Name)’s coworker called for her to come to the breakroom,Tamaki was left alone with his friends, who turned to look at him smugly.
“You’re in love, aren’t you?” Mirio asked,Tamaki shaking his head with red cheeks.
“I’m definitely setting you two up on a date!” Nejire told Tamaki, who wildly shook his head.
“Please don’t..!” He told his friends, who just grinned at him.
Tamaki couldn’t help but spend that night staring at his phone screen, his heart fluttering when (First Name) sent him a goodnight text.
I couldn’t help but ask
For you to say it all again.
Tamaki stared down at his phone, gripping the device in his hand as he tried to work up the courage. He and (First Name) had been talking a lot for nearly a month after reconnecting, but he had never actually been on call with her.
Finally working up the courage,Tamaki pressed the call button and waited, listening as it rang. When it was almost the last ring,(First Name) finally answered.
“Hello..?” The girl asked,Tamaki frowning when he heard how strained her voice sounded.
“Hey,(First Name),it’s me..” Tamaki muttered, trying his best to be brave. He couldn’t ask her what was wrong, but he hoped he could make her feel better somehow. “I.. Well.. The stars..”
“What about the stars..?” (First Name) asked, crawling over to her window and looking outside curiously.
“Constellations.. What’s your.. Well, what’s your favorite now?” He asked, looking out his own window.
“It’s ursa major, but why..?” (First Name) asked, covering her mouth to stop herself from giggling when she realized he had wanted to cheer her up by talking about the stars. “What’s your favorite,Tama?”
“Lyra.” Tamaki told her simply, gripping his phone tighter in his hand. He wanted to become her hero, but he still felt like a little kid who couldn’t even stop her from feeling sad.
“Ne,do you remember the day I left? I told you Pegasus was my favorite, didn’t I?” She asked,Tamaki nodding before realizing she couldn’t see him.
“Yeah, you did..” The boy muttered, wishing he could hear her talk about the stars forever.
“I’m surprised you remember..” (First Name) admitted, letting out a soft giggle. “Hey,Tama,um.. Do you maybe wanna go to a planetarium with me this weekend? Mirio and Nejire said it’d be a good idea to have a double-date,but of course we don’t have to go as dates or anything.. We can just go as friends, you know? Ah,but you don’t have to agree or anything,it’s fine if you don’t wanna..” She rambled, her face burning with embarrassment now.
“A.. Da.. Date..?” Tamaki asked, his face exploding into color. He didn’t quite know how to feel, but there was no way he was going to turn her down.
“Ne.. Nevermind! Forget I said anything! Bye!” (First Name) said, hanging up before he could reply. She buried her face in her pillow, gripping onto it as she looked outside at the stars.
Tamaki stared at his phone in flustered silence for a while, before sending a text asking what time they were all meeting up.
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen.
Tamaki clenched and unclenched his hands as he waited for Nejire and (First Name) to arrive. While Mirio had forced him into a baby blue shirt with a black jacket and a pair of jeans,Nejire had apparently gone over to (First Name)’s house to force her into ‘appropriate date attire’.
When (First Name) and Nejire finally arrived,Tamaki’s face flooded with color when he saw (First Name)’s outfit; a (Favorite Color) sweater that had butterflies on the cuffs and a skirt that went to her knees, butterflies on the hem.
“You look good today.” Mirio told Nejire, who just grinned at him and looked at Tamaki expectantly. Tamaki had completely short-circuited,just staring at (First Name).
“Tamaki, you need to compliment (First Name).” Nejire said, tapping the boy’s shoulder.
“Pre.. Pretty! Gorgeous! Ah,no.. I..” Tamaki groaned, running a hand through his hair as his friends laughed.
“Tamaki, are you okay?” (First Name) asked, giggling as she stepped closer to him. “Thanks for the compliment and everything, but you look ready to pass out.. Should I have worn something else?”
“No! You’re beautiful.. I just..” Tamaki sighed, frustrated that he couldn’t get his words out properly. “I’ve just… I’ve never seen someone as beautiful as you..” He told her, rubbing the back of his neck. (First Name)’s face heated up at the compliment, the girl looking away shyly.
“You’re really handsome today as well.. Well, you’re always handsome, but you look especially good today..” She told him,her face burning.
“Come on,you two. We already bought our entrance tickets,so let’s go.” Mirio told them, chuckling as he led them inside. (First Name) and Tamaki trailed behind their friends, both of them equally as flustered.
After taking their seats and staring up at the ceiling of the planetarium for a while,Tamaki’s face exploded into color once again when he felt (First Name) place her hand on his. Instead of pulling away and retreating like he wanted to,he laced his fingers with her and looked over at her, smiling a little.
Once they were finished with watching the fake stars,Tamaki followed his friends around the building,Nejire looking at everything excitedly with Mirio by her side. (First Name) hadn’t let go of Tamaki’s hand, which made him happy.
“(First Name),you like space, right? I bet you don’t know what planet that is!” Mirio told her, pointing up at one of the solar system displays they had.
“It’s mars,Mirio. It was named after the Roman god of war,and it’s the second smallest planet in our solar system,” (First Name) told him, smirking. “Want to try that again?”
“Woah,my bad! I didn’t know if you actually knew as much about space as Tamaki said you did..” Mirio told her, laughing. “Sorry if that sounded like I was doubting you!”
“Tamaki told you I knew a lot about space..?” (First Name) asked, looking at Tamaki and giggling when she saw how embarrassed he looked. “What else have you told them?”
“N.. Nothing embarrassing..” Tamaki muttered, looking away shyly. (First Name) just burst into laughter until she started coughing, covering her mouth as she went into a coughing fit.
“Are you alright..?” Nejire asked her anxiously,(First Name) nodding once she could finally breathe properly again.
“My throat’s just a little dry is all..” She told her, smiling. “How about we keep exploring?”
“Alright!” Nejire said excitedly, the excitement returning to their double-date.
When they were finally finished with the date at sundown,Tamaki walked (First Name) home, the girl giving him a kiss goodbye at the door. Tamaki stood there for nearly ten minutes in shocked silence, his face exploding into color before he left.
I’d give anything to hear
You say it one more time,
A year passed by after their date, and Tamaki entered his second year at U.A. happily. While his relationship with (First Name) had only gotten stronger,he still hadn’t worked up the courage to tell her exactly how much he loved her, which kept their relationship a little rocky.
“Tamaki, are we gonna go meet up with (First Name) again today?” Mirio asked his friend on their way out of the school.
“She said she’s going to be at the hospital today..” Tamaki muttered, gripping his bag tighter. “She’s been acting weird..”
“(First Name) said she’s volunteering again today, right? Why don’t we just go visit her?” Nejire asked, grinning. “We can just go talk to her!”
“But.. But she’ll be working with patients..” Tamaki muttered,Mirio and Nejire just throwing their arms around him and pulling him towards the hospital.
“It’ll be alright!” Nejire told him, grinning. “You’re her boyfriend,so of course we can visit her!”
“You still need to confess, right? It’s been a year,Tamaki.. You’ve gotta tell her you love her eventually.” Mirio pointed out to his friend,Tamaki just looking away with red cheeks.
“I… I can’t…” Tamaki muttered, his cheeks burning as they walked together. “I.. She’d… What.. What if I ruin it?”
“How would you ruin it? By being honest about your feelings?” Mirio ruffled his friend’s hair and chuckled. “You’ve gotta be brave,Tamaki! You’ve gotta march up to her and say ‘I love you!’ like I do with Nejire!”
“I.. I’m not like you,Mirio.. You’re.. You’re the sun..” Tamaki muttered,gripping his bag tighter. “I’m.. I’m a scaredy cat..”
“You’re not a scaredy cat,Tamaki! You’re really brave,so all you have to do is try!” Nejire urged him,Tamaki shaking his head and gripping his bag tighter.
When they made it to the hospital nearly half an hour later,Tamaki was left speechless when he saw (First Name) teaching a little boy about butterflies in the waiting room. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail, her (Eye Color) eyes shining as she spoke.
“There are a lot of different types of butterflies, and they all have really pretty wings,” (First Name) told the boy,who stared up at her. His eyes were bloodshot from crying, his arm limp in his lap. “My wings are from a species called (Favorite Butterfly Species). See the pretty colors?”
“Yeah..” The little boy muttered, rubbing his teary eyes as he looked up at her. Since the doctors were busy,(First Name)’s job was to keep the people in the waiting room distracted. Mirio and Nejire walked over, eager to take over distracting the child.
“Hey,(First Name)! What happened to the little guy?” Mirio asked, grinning as he kneeled down by the girl’s side.
“I.. I broke my arm..” The little boy told him nervously, his mother rubbing his back to help him feel more secure.
“How’d you do that?” Nejire asked, kneeling down on (First Name)’s other side with a smile.
“My.. My Quirk..” The boy muttered, feeling a bit safer now that there was another pretty woman in front of him.
“Really? Back when I first got my Quirk,it was horrible! I used to fall through things all the time!” Mirio told him, grinning. He would do his best to help the child feel better, mainly because he had a soft spot for children.
“Re.. Really?” The boy asked, looking at him. “How’d.. How’d you make it stop?”
“I had to be super brave and careful.. It was a lot of hard work, but I bet next time you use your Quirk,it’ll be even better!” Mirio ruffled the boy’s hair, which made the kid giggle. “So you’ve just gotta be brave and careful, okay?”
“Al.. alright..” The boy said, smiling a little bit. When the nurses were finally ready to see him only moments later,he perked up and walked back with his mom, waving at them as he disappeared into the room.
“Ah,Tama, you’re here as well?” (First Name) asked when she noticed the boy, giggling. “Did you need something?”
“No,we… I..” Tamaki’s face was still burning, unable to handle how absolutely adorable his girlfriend was. He knew she wasn’t perfect, but she was perfect for him.
“All three of us wanted to see you,(First Name)!” Nejire said cheerfully, grinning. “How has your day been?”
“Ah,it’s been fine. Since we only had a half-day today,I’ve been here since around two or three, and there haven’t been many patients so far,” (First Name) told her, smiling a little. “But I’m glad you guys are here. Wanna help out?”
“Of course! If we get to cheer up a bunch of kids and make people happy,we’re doing our jobs as heroes properly!” Mirio told her,Tamaki just nodding awkwardly.
The group spent the day cheering up children using their Quirks, though Tamaki was still being as shy as ever. After they were finally kicked out of the hospital when it turned dark outside,Mirio and Nejire urged Tamaki to walk (First Name) home and then left together.
“Tamaki,I’ll be fine on my own.. It’s pretty dark out,so you should just head home.” (First Name) told him,Tamaki shaking his head.
“I.. I’m your boyfriend..” He muttered, grabbing her hand. His cheeks flooded with color as he gripped her hand, walking in the direction of her house.
“But being my boyfriend doesn’t mean you have to walk me home, you know? I appreciate it,but we live on opposite sides of the city, and it’s dangerous for you to try and walk home alone..” She told him, sighing a little. “I can protect myself, and I know you can protect yourself as well,so why do you feel the need to walk me home?”
“I.. I’m a man..” Tamaki muttered, squeezing her hand as he kept walking. “I have to pr.. Protect you.”
“Why can’t you want to protect me because you love me? You being a man doesn’t mean you have to protect me,it just means you have a weiner.” She told him bluntly,Tamaki looking at her with wide eyes. She laughed when she saw his expression, knowing he wasn’t used to hearing her say things so bluntly.
“But..” Tamaki just trailed off, unable to stop himself from laughing at her words. “You’re so childish..”
“Well it’s true! You having something different in your pants doesn’t mean anything. Men don’t have to be strong or super buff or anything. It doesn’t matter to me whether you protect me or not.” She told him,Tamaki nodding and sighing.
“I just… I just wanna spend more time together..” He admitted, blushing as he spoke. “You.. Well, you’ve been acting differently recently..”
“I have been?” (First Name) asked, raising an eyebrow. “I’ve just been a bit busier than usual,so I’ve been a bit more stressed.. Did I do anything that upset you?”
“No,it’s.. It’s just..” Tamaki looked away and sighed. “We.. We haven’t been hanging out as much..”
“I know..” (First Name) muttered, running a hand through her hair. “I’ll try and make some more time, alright? We see each-other at least once or twice a week, but I’m sure I can make more time..”
“You don’t have to..” Tamaki told her, looking down. “I just.. I miss seeing you almost every day..”
“I miss it to..” (First Name) admitted, squeezing his hand and sighing.
The rest of the walk was silent, neither of them sure what to say next. Tamaki didn’t want (First Name) to stop doing the things she loved, but seeing her just once a week wasn’t enough for him. (First Name) didn’t want to quit work or stop volunteering, but she didn’t want to make Tamaki feel insecure about their relationship either.
Despite Tamaki’s anxieties about their relationship,(First Name) didn’t quit her job or stop volunteering; instead, she stopped hanging out with her own friends to make more time for him.
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes.
“Tamaki, what the fuck happened?!” (First Name) shouted at her boyfriend when he showed up at her door covered in bruises.
“Training..” Tamaki muttered, hugging her and burying his face in her neck for comfort. His training had been particularly rough recently, and it was starting to make (First Name) anxious.
“What kind of training?” She asked, rubbing his back.
“Combat..” He sighed, raising his head when she stepped into the house and held the door open so he could enter.
“Come on,I’ll patch you up..” She ordered, shutting the door when he walked in and flopped down on her couch.
“Where’s your mom..?” He asked,(First Name) just heading over to the bathroom and grabbing the first aid kit before returning.
“She’s out on a date with Chrys.. He’s gonna propose to her today.” (First Name) told him as she began to disinfect his wounds.
“So you’re gonna have a stepdad soon?” Tamaki asked, wincing at the sting from the disinfectant.
“Yeah.. How come you didn’t go to the nurse to get healed? You’re beat up pretty badly..” She sighed, changing the subject quickly.
“She was busy..” Tamaki told her, studying her face as she continued to patch him up. “Hey,what’s your favorite constellation now?”
“Why?” (First Name) asked, looking at him and giggling. “You ask me this question once a month, you know?”
“You have a new favorite every month, don’t you?” Tamaki asked, wanting to make her feel better and distract himself from the pain of his injuries by talking about the stars like always.
“You got me there..” (First Name) admitted, pausing her treatment for a second. “Right now,my favorite is probably Cygnus, the swan constellation..”
“Why?” He asked, making (First Name) laugh.
“You’re like a little kid when you ask about the stars, you know?” She asked, returning to treating his wounds. “I’m not sure why it’s my favorite, but it is..”
“Thanks..” Tamaki told her once she finished patching him up.
“Just be more careful from now on,okay? I don’t like seeing you all beaten up like this..” She told him,Tamaki nodding and opening his arms for her. (First Name) flopped down in his arms after setting the first aid kit aside, snuggling into him and relaxing.
Tamaki was completely defenseless against how adorable his girlfriend was,and he loved it.
With shortness of breath, I’ll explain the infinite
How rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist.
“Tamaki, you can’t!” Mirio shouted as he struggled to hold his friend back. Tamaki struggled and shouted as he tried to get out of Mirio’s grip, his eyes locked on the burning building. The villain that had attacked the hospital was already being apprehended by the pros, and he had only been assigned to helping find people in the rubble, but Tamaki couldn’t focus on any of that.
“Let go! Let go of me,Mirio! She’s in there!” He shouted as he thrashed around,Mirio struggling to keep his usually quiet friend contained.
“We have to help evacuate the people nearby first! The pros will handle the people in the hospital!” Mirio shouted,Tamaki managing to get out of his grip. The blue-haired boy rushed into the flaming hospital,Mirio cursing and following him.
“(First Name)! (First Name),where are you?” Tamaki called out as he ran through the front door. He wasn’t himself, the adrenaline wiping away almost all of his usual attitude.
“Tamaki,we can’t just abandon our stations! We’re heroes,we have to save people!” Mirio shouted at his friend, grabbing his arm and dodging his attempt at elbowing him in the face.
“I don’t care! If I can’t save her, what’s the point?!” Tamaki shouted, glaring at his friend. “You’ve already followed me in here,so just go through the walls and find her.”
“You’re gonna regret this..” Mirio told him, sighing as he went to look for (First Name).
(First Name) was struggling to keep a group of patients calm, her whole body trembling as she heard the fighting outside. She had been on the first floor when the attack happened, but many of the people in the waiting room had been killed off by another villain.
“Hey,shh.. It’s going to be okay..” She told one of the little kids that was busy crying, trying to soothe herself as well. “Listen, everything’s going to be okay, alright? There are heroes outside about to rescue us,so just stay in the cabinet, okay?” She asked, shutting the cabinet once the kid nodded. There was nowhere in the room that she could hide, but she had managed to hide a few kids in the cabinets of one of the rooms.
When she heard loud footsteps in the hallway, she swallowed her fear and told the adult in the room to stay there with the kids while she drew the villain away. Before the man could agree, she opened the door and shut it,seeing a man with a flame Quirk about to open the door to another room.
“Hey,fuckface! Over here!” She shouted, clenching her fists when he turned to look at her. She wasn’t made for combat, but she could at least draw him away from the kids; she just needed to buy time. “What’s wrong, you big oaf? Cat got your tongue? What are you,a pussy?!” She took off running once she was sure the man would follow, trying to remember the layout of the hospital.
“Come back here, you bitch!” The man shouted as he chased her, needing to get close enough to burn her. (First Name) just kept running, the adrenaline the only thing keeping her going.
As she turned a corner,(First Name) heard crying, the girl turning to see a little girl crying as she tried to wake her father up. She moved purely on instinct as she grabbed the child’s arm, jerking her up and tucking an arm under her legs as she kept running. The villain had gained ground on her,but he still wasn’t close enough.
Turning another corner,(First Name) suddenly found herself tumbling. She kept the girl’s head cushioned as they hit the floor, realizing there was no way she could get up before the guy reached them. Her mind was racing, struggling to come up with a plan, but she couldn’t think of anything besides protecting the kid in her arms. She sat up,the girl still clinging to her,and just spread her wings to try and block as much of the coming burn as she could.
“Ta.. Tam…” (First Name) whimpered out, praying he’d somehow show up to save her. She could hear the flames from the man’s hand as he prepared to burn them, and she could hear the little girl in her arms crying, and she could hear her own heart racing, but she didn’t hear herself as she let out a loud scream. “TAMAKI!”
Tamaki heard the scream, and so did Mirio, but Mirio was the one who made it to her first. The blond watched in terror as a blast of flames engulfed (First Name)’s back, her wings scorching as she just tried to protect the girl in her arms. She used her body as a shield to block the flames from touching her, though she fell forward when the flames came to an end after Mirio had knocked the guy out.
“(First Name),are you alright?! Fuck,fuck..” Mirio asked once he was sure the villain was unconscious, absolutely terrified when he saw how badly she was burned.
“Mirio..?” Tamaki asked when he made it to the hallway they were in,only seeing his friend at first.
“Tamaki, don’t come any closer! Fuck,fuck.. Fuck, what do I do..?!” Mirio panicked, running a hand through his hair.
Despite Mirio’s desperate pleas for him not to approach,Tamaki walked over, his eyes widening when he saw (First Name). She was still clutching the child in her arms, her whole body shaking from the painful burns on her back.
“(First Name)...?” Tamaki asked, falling to his knees beside her. (First Name) opened her eyes, wheezing a little bit as she forced herself to stay awake.
“Tam.. K.. Kid..” She choked out,Mirio moving over and prying (First Name)’s hands off of the little girl so he could pick her up. (First Name) hadn’t even realized how tightly she’d been clutching the child, smiling a tiny bit when she saw that the kid only had a few cuts and bruises.
“Hey,hey, stay awake.. Stay awake..” Tamaki muttered, trying to think. His mind was racing, but he felt oddly empty. “Come on,(First Name),talk to me..”
“I’m gonna put this kid in one of the rooms..” Mirio told them, carrying the kid away. While he wanted to break down,he was in shock as well, his movements robotic.
“Ta..” (First Name) muttered, whimpering when he tried to move her. Her back hurt like hell, but she wanted to stay awake.
“Yeah,it’s me.. It’s me,(First Name)..” Tamaki told her,too scared to move her. He couldn’t do anything but sit there with her, tears rolling down his face. “Hey,(First Name),do you wanna talk about the stars..?”
“St.. ars..?” (First Name) asked, struggling to keep herself awake. She could hardly focus on anything other than the pain, but she tried to make out Tamaki’s voice as best as she could.
“Yeah, the stars.. You’ve always taught me about them,remember..? There’s Orion, and he’s the hunter.. There’s Pegasus, who Perseus rode to save Andromeda.. And.. And..” Tamaki started to break down, his whole body shaking. He was starting to hyperventilate, coughing and wheezing to the point that he passed out beside her.
When Tamaki woke up the next day in the hospital,he was in a panic. Mirio was beside his bed,the blond calming him down as best as he could.
“(First Name).. Where’s (First Name)..?” Tamaki asked, his mind a mess.
“She’s being treated right now..” Mirio said, keeping his friend from getting up. “Nobody’s allowed to see her right now..”
“I have to see her,Mirio.. She called for me..” Tamaki said, trying to push his friend back. “Let go,Mirio..”
“I won’t let go this time,” Mirio told him, struggling to keep his friend down even now. “If I could let you see her,I would, but right now she’s not doing well..”
“Then I definitely need to see her!” Tamaki snapped, falling silent when the door opened and Nejire walked in.
“Ah,Tamaki…” She trailed off,Mirio looking over at her.
“What did the doctors say?” The blond asked,Tamaki sitting up and staring at her.
“She..” Nejire clenched her fists and looked down, unable to force the words out at first. “(First Name) won’t make it.. They spent all night last night trying to work on her after we got here, but they said the burns were too bad and her body can’t handle the pain..”
“What..?” Tamaki asked,Mirio frozen up as well. Neither of the boys could comprehend the information completely, but Tamaki was out of the bed and out the door in seconds. “Where is she..?”
“Tamaki, you can’t..” Nejire said, grabbing his wrist with her own trembling hands.
“Just tell me where she is!” Tamaki shouted,Mirio clenching his fists and just lowering his head.
Instead of telling him,Nejire led him to (First Name)’s room, the boy walking in to see only a few nurses watching over her.
(First Name) was hardly conscious, everything around her seeming too much. Her back hurt like hell, and the ventilator she was on wasn’t helping her much.
“Hey,(First Name).. Hey..” Tamaki muttered as he walked over, grabbing her hand and squeezing it gently. “Can you hear me..?”
“Tama…” She choked out,her voice cracking as she let out a little wheeze. She knew she wouldn’t make it,but that didn’t stop her from giving her boyfriend a tired smile.
“Hey,love..” Tamaki gripped her hand, trying to keep himself from falling apart. “Do you remember when we were really little and we both said we wanted to be heroes..? You definitely saved a lot of people at the hospital, you know? You’re definitely a hero..”
“Stars..” (First Name) muttered, squeezing his hand as she tried to focus on his voice. She could hear him,but he sounded far away.
“You wanna hear about the stars?” Tamaki asked, taking a shaky breath as he gripped her hand tighter. “Well, back when we were kids, your favorite was Leo,because it meant ‘bravery’.. And you taught me that we’re really lucky to be alive, and we’re really lucky to have each-other..” He forced a smile, leaning down and kissing her forehead as she shut her eyes. “And you know what else you taught me,(First Name)? You taught me that Perseus rode Pegasus to save Andromeda, and that all of the constellations are beautiful.. You taught me that men don’t have to be brave and strong all the time.. You taught me that it’s important I take care of myself, and that I shouldn’t let people doubt someone.. You taught me that you’re really brave, and you taught me just how deeply I could love someone..”
Tamaki didn’t feel her hand go limp at first. He didn’t see her chest stop moving until she was completely still. He didn’t hear Mirio and Nejire crying, nor did he hear the nurses note the time of death.
Tamaki’s world went silent that day.
