Shota Aizawa x Reader

(I hope you guys enjoy this one! Unfortunately,I don’t much like writing one-shots with Shota,as I feel like his character relies heavily on the trauma he experienced in Vigilantes. Because of that,I don’t plan on writing many one-shots of him,but if I find a storyline I like enough,I’ll consider writing more about him! The Tamaki Amajiki one-shot ended up needing a total revamp before I could post it,so it’ll probably take quite a while for me to post it,so please be patient! The song is ‘Medicine’ by Daughter.)

Pick it up, pick it all up

And start again

“Shota, are you coming with me to visit (First Name) in the hospital today?!” Hizashi shouted into his friend’s classroom one morning.

“Of course I am. You’d better not cause any trouble,” Shota warned his friend, who grinned before he left. Seeing the curiosity on his students’ faces,Shota let out a sigh. “What is it?”

“Who is (First Name)..?” Tsuyu asked,Shota letting out another sigh.

“She’s a friend. Any other questions?” The teacher asked, holding back a groan when he saw Momo open her mouth.

“Why is she in the hospital?” Momo asked,a few of the others giving her scolding looks. That had been the main question everyone had,but none of them had been planning on actually asking it.

“She’s got pancreatic cancer,” Was all Shota said. All of his students seemed to tense up at his words, which made him let out a chuckle. “What, taking pity on her? You’ve never even met her.”

“Sir,is now really an appropriate time to be discussing matters not pertaining to class?!” Tenya shouted,Shota sighing and zipping up his sleeping bag.

“Just have a silent homeroom or something. We’ve already finished discussing the important stuff,” The man said as he laid down. “Any other questions about (First Name) can be directed towards Mic. Don’t disturb my sleep.” He ordered, waiting until his problem children nodded before he rolled over to sleep.

Once the annoyingly long day was finally over,Shota took a cab to the hospital with Hizashi, eager to see (First Name) again. She had only been hospitalized two weeks prior after she had collapsed at home, but those two weeks without seeing her had felt like torture.

After getting (First Name)’s room number from the front desk,Shota and Hizashi got on the elevator,Hizashi rambling about how they should have bought her a watermelon as a present while Shota just nodded along.

“Shota, listen!” Hizashi complained,Shota ignoring his loudmouthed friend for now.

When the elevator arrived at the proper floor, both men got off and headed to (First Name)’s room, making their way through the halls calmly. Arriving at her room,Shota tried to knock, sighing when Hizashi just flung the door open.

“Oi,(First Name),how ya doing!?” The loudmouthed blond called into the room. (First Name) just sat up in bed, letting out a laugh when she saw them.

“It’s been a while, you two. How have things been?” She asked curiously,Hizashi and Shota sitting down on opposite sides of her bed.

“Class is fine,” Shota said calmly, the man laying his head on her lap casually. “It’s full of problem children, though.”

“How many have you expelled?” (First Name) asked him curiously, running her fingers through his hair with a gentle smile. She could tell he had showered before coming to visit her by the smell of shampoo emanating from him.

“He hasn’t expelled any of them this entire year! Not even the one that breaks his bones like glow sticks!” Hizashi told her. “That’s weird for Shota, right!?”

“There’s one that breaks his bones?” (First Name) asked, looking over at him. “Ah,that ‘Deku’ kid or whatever? I heard a little bit about him.. Do you have a soft spot for him or something,Shota?”

“No,he’s just got a little potential is all,” Shota sighed, looking up at her. “What have the doctors been saying?”

“They said I’ll be allowed out next week after I adjust my medications some more. My body has been rejecting my medicine, apparently,” (First Name) told him, smiling at him gently. “I won’t be able to go back to working,though..”

“You don’t need to work,(First Name)! U.A. has been fine this year, though the students definitely miss you!” Hizashi told her, grinning. “I heard the kids in class 2-A are planning on visiting you soon,so get ready!”

“You’d better tell them not to visit! I’ll have to beat them all up!” (First Name) told him, laughing. “I wish I could meet the new problem children, though,so I’ll stop by after I’m released. You okay with that,Shota?” She asked as she looked down at her ravenette friend.

“You’re welcome at U.A. anytime,” Shota told her, sitting up. “Wait a few days after you’re released to let your body adjust to being outside again, alright?”

“Yeah, yeah,I’ll be fine. I’m not dying, you know?” (First Name) asked, laughing at the glare her friend gave her. “Hey,come on,I’m the one in the hospital bed here,so why are you the one looking so sullen all the time?”

“(First Name),those kinds of jokes aren’t funny and you know it,” Shota told her, sitting up and looking right at her. “You should take your health more seriously.”

“I’m fine,Shota. I’ve just gotta start everything over again. I’m on better medications now and everything,so the chances of me passing out again are slim,” (First Name) told him, rubbing the back of her neck. “Shouldn’t you get back to your problem children?”

“We just got here!” Hizashi pointed out,Shota nodding but sighing when a doctor came in.

“I have to get another checkup, and you two can’t be here while I am.”  (First Name) told them, both her friends nodding reluctantly. Shota wanted to stay longer so he could nap with his head on her legs, and Hizashi wanted to stay longer so they could talk for a while, but both boys knew they had to leave.

“We’ll see you again once you’re released, okay?” Hizashi asked,(First Name) waving her friends off with a grin.

You've got a second chance

You could go home

(First Name) was released from the hospital a week after Hizashi and Shota had visited her,the girl spending three days at home before she went to visit U.A.. She had been working there for years with her friends, but she had taken the year off after she had been diagnosed with cancer.

“Shota!” She said happily as she pounced on her friend. His entire class was training in the gym, working on their ultimate moves, but the girl had been too excited to wait for him inside.

“(First Name),it’s been a while. How come you’re not inside?” Shota asked, completely unbothered by her childish behavior. He was more worried about her health than anything.

“Sensei,is that the (First Name) you and Mr.Mic went to visit the other day?” Tsuyu asked, letting out a ribbit. Shota just nodded and sighed a little, knowing his students were too distracted to keep working now.

“She’s super pretty!” Ochaco said happily, floating over with wide eyes. “Hi,I’m Uraraka!”

“It’s nice to meet you,Ms.Uraraka. I’m assuming you’re the anti-gravity student,correct?” (First Name) told her,Ochaco nodding excitedly.

“Yep! Did Sensei tell you that?” Uraraka asked excitedly. The other students were beginning to crowd around as well,Izuku and Katsuki the only ones who hadn’t seemed to notice her yet.

“Actually, before the school year started,I was going to be your science teacher,so I memorized everyone’s names and faces,” (First Name) explained, smiling at them. “It’s a pleasure to meet you all.”

“You were gonna be our science teacher? What’s your Quirk?” Mina asked her excitedly.

“I can neutralize all chemical formulas,” (First Name) told her, still holding onto Shota. “That also means I’m a natural enemy to people with acid Quirks like yours,Ms.Ashido.”

“As expected of U.A.,we were only to have the best teachers!” Tenya shouted, pushing up his glasses.

“Enough. Everyone, return to working,” Shota ordered his class with a sigh. “As future heroes, you must all continue to work through distractions.”

“But Sensei,we’ve never got to meet her before!” Mina whined,(First Name) giving Shota her best puppy eyes.

“Shota, come on! They’re just kids, and I’ve never met them before! Won’t you give them a break, just for a little while?” She asked, looking up at him with her big (Eye Color) eyes. Shota stared down at her for a moment, before he let out a sigh and nodded.

“Five minute break. That’s all. Don’t bombard (First Name) with questions, either,” Shota told his class, narrowing his eyes. “If you all ask too many questions,I will punish all of you. Understood?” He added, relaxing once his class let out a ‘yes sir!’.

“You guys can ask me anything!” (First Name) said cheerfully.

“Were you a pro hero?” Momo asked curiously, tilting her head to the side slightly.

“Yep. I used to work with a pro hero named Tsuginami,” (First Name) told her calmly, letting go of Shota finally. “I was only ever a sidekick, though. Since Tsuginami was a huge support hero,I was a support hero for a support hero.”

“You worked with pro hero Tsuginami?!” Izuku shouted as he landed by them. He had been practicing his kicks the entire time, but he’d slowly made his way over to them and overheard the conversation. “He was super cool! His Quirk led to many medicinal discoveries that allowed for portable medical attention!”

“You’ve heard of Tsuginami? Most people don’t recognize his name,so I’m impressed,” (First Name) told him, holding her hand out. “It’s a pleasure to meet you,Problem Child Number One.”

“Wahh,a handshake!? You’re super cool!” Izuku shouted, completely fanboying as he shook her hand. He didn’t even notice the nickname, just radiating absolute excitement at the chance to meet another pro hero.

“It’s nice to meet you,Mr.Midoriya,” (First Name) told him, smiling brightly. She was starting to feel tired, but she didn’t want to leave yet. “So the one still training is Problem Child Number Two,correct? Mr.Bakugo?”

“Yep,that’s Kacchan!” Izuku shouted excitedly, practically bouncing up and down.

“Hah?! What’d you say,you damn Deku?!” Katsuki shouted, finally pausing his training. He made his way down to his classmates when he saw an unfamiliar face, giving the woman a sharp glare. “Who are you?”

“Woah, chill out there,Bakugo. She was gonna be our science teacher. Remember what Mr.Aizawa and Mr.Yamada said the other day about going to visit (First Name)? This is her.” Eijiro told his boyfriend, who immediately stopped with his anger. As much of a hothead as Katsuki acted sometimes,he would never be hateful towards someone suffering from a sickness as serious as cancer.

“It’s nice to meet you,Mr.Bakugo. I’ve heard a lot of good things about you from Hizashi,All Might, and Shota,” (First Name) said, giggling when she saw his expression change when she mentioned Toshinori. “I’ve also seen your work with Tsunagu, and he said you’re gonna be a wonderful hero.”

“I don’t care about that idiot!” Katsuki snapped, looking away with a growl. (First Name) let out a laugh, covering her mouth when the boy glared at her.

“Sorry, sorry! I didn’t mean to make fun of you or anything,I just think you’re exactly how I hoped you’d be,” (First Name) said, turning to the door when she heard someone demanding they give up the gym. Her eyes widened and sparkled when she saw Vlad King, the woman running over and launching herself at him. “Seki!”

“(First Name),it’s been a while!” The man said happily, holding her up with a laugh. “You need to come visit more often!”

“Sensei, who’s that?” Kosei asked curiously,Sekijiro turning to address his class as he sat (First Name) down.

“Everyone, this is (First Name) (Last Name). She would have taught you all science this year, but she had to take the year off.” The teacher told his students happily.

“How come?” Tetsutetsu asked curiously,grinning.

“Tetsutetsu, that’s rude! Nobody takes a year off from working unless it’s for serious reasons!” Itsuka snapped at her classmate, sighing as she forced him to bow. “Please forgive him for his idiocy,Ms.(Last Name)!”

“Oh no,don’t worry about any of that! I was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and I had to take the year off so I could work on recovering. I’ll be able to teach you guys next year, though,so I’m looking forward to getting to know Class 1-B even better the next time I visit!” (First Name) told them happily. She had gotten used to talking about her cancer diagnosis,so it didn’t bother her anymore.

“Ha! Did you hear that,Class 1-A?! She’s looking forward to knowing us!” Neito shouted, throwing his head back with a cocky laugh. (First Name)’s entire expression lit up when she saw the blond, grabbing his hands excitedly.

“You’re that kid with the copycat Quirk, right?! You’re so cool! I saw you during the sports festival, and Seki’s told me about you before, but I’m happy I get to meet you in person!” The woman rambled. She was beginning to feel lightheaded, but she didn’t want to leave. Neito seemed to completely freeze at the praise, just staring at her dumbly. He had never been praised in such a straightforward way before,so he didn’t know how to react.

“Ah,um.. Thank you.” The usually arrogant blond muttered out once he regained some semblance of thought. His entire face was bright red now,his classmates pouncing on the chance to tease him over it.

(First Name) just watched as everyone teased Neito, letting out a giggle. The sight reminded her of back when she used to tease Hizashi and Shota whenever she got the chance. She suddenly fell forward,Vlad catching her before she could hit the ground and looking at Shota in a panic.

Shota was beside them in an instant, picking (First Name) up bridal style. “Vlad,I’m leaving my class to you for now. If any of them do anything stupid, expel them,” He ordered,Sekijiro nodding. “I knew she should have waited longer before coming for a visit.” He muttered as he carried the girl out.

After Recovery Girl had checked (First Name) over, they discovered that she had just fainted from the heat. When she woke up,Shota lectured (First Name) for nearly half an hour before he sent her home in a cab, making Toshinori accompany her home since he wasn’t scheduled for classes for the rest of the day.

“Hey,(First Name),are you really doing better?” Toshinori asked the woman as he helped her into bed.

“No,but you’re not doing too well yourself, are you?” She asked him softly, climbing into bed and giving him a soft smile.

“I guess neither of us have much time left.” Toshinori said, sighing as he pulled the blanket up for her.

“I guess so,” (First Name) said, leaning into her pillows. “But it’s been fun, right? Helping people, saving people, and teaching people.. All of it’s fun.”

“Of course it’s been fun. Now get some rest.” Toshinori said once the woman was tucked in,heading towards the door so he could turn off the lights and leave.

“Hey,you won’t tell anyone about it,right..? I don’t want everyone to worry.” (First Name) asked,Toshinori pausing at the lightswitch.

“I won’t,” The blond said after a few minutes of thinking. He knew it was wrong of him to hide it from the people who cared about (First Name) so much, but he would respect her wishes. For her to sacrifice her own comfort in exchange for time with the students meant that she truly was a ‘symbol’ in her own way,and he couldn’t bring himself to take that away from her. “Goodnight,(First Name).” He said as he flicked the light off and shut the door behind him.

Escape it all

It's just irrelevant

(First Name) was met with a pleasant surprise when Shota visited her a week after her visit to U.A. in order to check on her. After knocking on her door and waiting for nearly ten minutes for the girl to answer,Shota just let out a sigh when he saw how messy her hair was.

“Have you brushed your hair today?” The ravenette asked,(First Name) puffing out her cheeks at that.

“Listen here,I’ve been busy all day! Geez,Sho,you’re so mean sometimes!” She whined,Shota just raising an eyebrow as he followed her over to the couch. (First Name) flopped down with a sigh, patting her legs. “Come on,you big baby.”

“Oh shut up,” Shota muttered, laying down with his head on her thighs. She had been his lap pillow for years, and the tired boy enjoyed using her as a pillow even now. “You’re as comfortable as ever.” He told her with a slight smirk.

“Did you really come just to use me as a pillow?” (First Name) asked him, playing with his hair absentmindedly.

“Of course not,I just needed a break from the problem children,” Shota told her, sighing. “They’ve been asking about you nearly everyday.”

“Oh? What have they been asking?” (First Name) asked curiously. She had only met all of them once, but she loved everyone except the purple grape.

“When you’re coming to visit again,” Shota sighed, opening his eyes and looking up at her. “I told them you’re not allowed to visit for another week. Your body is rejecting the new medicine again, isn’t it?”

“I’m doing fine for now,I’m just having trouble adjusting to it is all,” (First Name) lied with a soft smile. “Just sleep for now, okay?”

“We’re gonna.. Talk about it… la.. ter…” Shota muttered as he started to doze off. He was exhausted from dealing with his students and everything else in life, and his favorite pillow was (First Name),so he couldn’t fight off sleep.

When Shota woke up hours later,(First Name) was already fast asleep, the girl’s hand on his cheek. He stared up at her face, gently moving her hand away with a soft sigh.  While he didn’t want to leave,he knew he needed to return to the dorms. He carefully moved away from her, before he gently picked her up and carried her to bed. He tucked her in silently, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead before leaving.

It's just medicine

It's just medicine

(First Name) had known it was coming for a while, but it still scared her.

“Ms.(Last Name),I still think it’s best we look at other treatment methods. Using radiation therapy is less painful than continuing the systemic therapy we’ve been using. The medication you’ve been taking clearly isn’t helping your body.” The doctor told her,(First Name) shaking her head.

“I won’t do radiation therapy,so let’s choose different medicines this time, alright?” (First Name) asked him,the doctor shaking his head.

“We’ve tried nearly every type of medicine, and it’s continuing to spread. You’ve reported higher rates of fatigue and continued nausea,Ms.(Last Name),so doing radiation therapy is almost certainly the better course of action here.” He told her,(First Name) just sighing.

“Please prescribe more medicine. I won’t do radiation therapy, though I do appreciate your concern.” (First Name) told him,the man giving in when he saw how serious she looked.

(First Name) spent that night looking through her pills in silence. After spending nearly an hour vomiting into the toilet, she had to keep reminding herself that it was just medicine.

You could still be

What you want to

“Hi there! What can future pro hero (First Name) do for you?” (First Name) had asked Oboro.

“Nice to meet you,(First Name)! My name is Oboro Shirakumo, but you can just call me Oboro!” Oboro told her, grinning. “The one with black hair is Shota Aizawa, and the blond is Hizashi Yamada! We’re gonna be pro heroes as well, and I happened to overhear some of the kids from 1-B talking about a crazy girl in the support course that only ever stays in the science classroom,so I got curious. I’m assuming that’s you?”

“Yep! I’m ahead of all of my studies,so the teachers let me do experiments in here.” (First Name) told him, turning back to her experiment calmly. When it started to bubble up too much, she merely touched it,the boys watching as the chemicals separated themselves into different beakers.

“So that’s your Quirk?” Oboro asked, his eyes shining with eagerness.

“Yeah, why?” (First Name) asked, looking at him calmly.

“Let’s be friends, okay? Since we’re all gonna be pro heroes one day,I want you as my support!” Oboro told her, grinning.

“This is gonna be great! If we have (First Name) as our support, she can definitely make all sorts of things for us to use without us having to worry!” Hizashi shouted, dancing around with Oboro like an idiot.

“Please pardon their behavior.” Was all Shota told the girl, who just stared at the trio for a while before she started to laugh.

“If you three will have me as your support hero,I’ll do my best!” She told them, grinning. Oboro and Hizashi kept cheering and goofing around,(First Name) and Shota just watching while laughing.

What you said you were

When I met you

(First Name) had never been set to work on the front lines, but when a villain with a gas Quirk attacked their school near the end of their first year, she was the one to move first.

“Ms.(Last Name),where are you going?!” Her teacher shouted,(First Name) sliding a gas mask on from the cabinet while the rest of the students stayed in the air pocket her teacher had made.

“I’m a hero-in-training! If I just sit by doing nothing,I’m no better than a villain!” (First Name) shouted as she slid the mask on. “My Quirk can neutralize theirs! Creating gas needs some sort of chemical reaction!” She added as she shut the door. Her teacher was shouting after her,but the woman couldn’t follow her student and risk the rest of her students being in danger.

Making her way through the hallways,(First Name) wasn’t shocked when she heard Oboro and Hizashi arguing about which way to go to make it upstairs. “Oboro,Hizashi? Is that you guys?” She asked as she reached out. She could hardly see them through the gas, only able to make out their silhouettes.

“Hey,(First Name)! Do you know where the stairs are?” Oboro asked her casually, not seeming to care that they were in the middle of a villain attack.

“How are you breathing?” (First Name) asked him, gripping onto his arm once she found it.

“We were working on our hero costumes and the old man made us put these on. Everyone else is passed out right now,so we’re trying to figure out where the stairs are so we can take this guy out. Since Shota’s Quirk can cancel theirs out if he sees them,we’re hoping he can do it,” Oboro told her, laughing a little. “So do you know the way to the stairs?”

“Yeah. Give me your hand,Oboro, and then take Hizashi’s hand. Hizashi, you take Shota’s hand,” She ordered, the boys doing as told. She then slowly made her way to the stairs, carefully making her way up them. “How do you guys know they’re upstairs?”

“That’s where most of the noise was coming from,so we’re just assuming they’re up there.” Oboro told her, carefully making his way upstairs with her and the rest of his friends.

When they finally found the villain,(First Name) used her Quirk to neutralize the gas,Shota using his Quirk to cancel out the man’s Quirk completely. Shirakumo and Hizashi restrained him quickly,a couple of the teachers eventually finding them once the gas dispersed.

You've got a warm heart

You've got a beautiful brain

“Shota, let’s go out on a ‘date’ today!” (First Name) called out to her friend happily, her (Eye Color) eyes practically sparkling.

“(First Name),how did you even make it all the way to the dorms?” Shota asked her with a sigh. The woman had somehow managed to make it to the dorms despite the blazing temperature outside, though Shota did pause his scolding when he saw the outfit she was wearing. A cat-printed shirt and a (Favorite Color) skirt, with knee-high kitten socks. “And why are you wearing something like that?”

“It’s ‘cause you like cats,” (First Name) said, winking at him as she posed. “Aren’t I cute?”

“Ms.(Last Name),how have you been?!” Mina asked excitedly when she saw the teacher. The dorms were in an uproar immediately, all of the students crowding around and asking her all sorts of questions.

“Your outfit is super cute! Are you and Mr.Aizawa going on a date?!” Toru asked excitedly, bouncing up and down.

“Well I asked him to come out,but he doesn’t seem to wanna,” (First Name) said, giving a sad expression as she faked wiping at her eyes. “Shota can be mean sometimes..”

“Sensei, you’re not supposed to make a woman cry! It’s not manly!” Eijiro scolded his teacher, who just glared at (First Name).

“It’s certainly unfortunate that Ms.(Last Name) went through all of that trouble only to be shut down..” Momo said, frowning a little.

“Sensei, you should definitely go! You have to go!” Toru whined, waving her arms childishly.

“It’s too hot for (First Name) and I to go on a date. (First Name),I’ll walk you to the gate, but you have to go home and get some rest, okay?” Shota ordered,(First Name) puffing out her cheeks before sighing.

“That’s the closest I’m getting to a date from you, isn’t it?” She asked with a pout.

“Yep,” Shota said, grabbing her hand and pulling her to the door. “Now let’s go.”

“See you kids next time!” (First Name) told the students with a grin as she followed Shota out.

“Now why did you set me up like that?” Shota asked as he turned to look at her with a frown. “You knew if you pretended I hurt your feelings that those problem children would complain.”

“It’s because we haven’t gone on a date in a long time! It’s not fun to just be laying in a bed all day.” (First Name) whined, pouting.

“We’re not even dating,(First Name). Saying stuff like that in front of the students will definitely cause them to misunderstand.” Shota sighed, running a hand through his hair.

“You can’t be mad though, right? ‘Cause I’m a kitty-cat right now!” (First Name) told him, grinning. “Aren’t I cute,Shota?” She asked as she spun around childishly.

“(First Name),seriously..” Shota sighed, though he couldn’t help but smile a little at how cute she was. “You need to focus on recovering if you want me to take you on a proper date.”

“Ooh,is that the great Shota confessing to me?” (First Name) asked, her entire expression lighting up. “I’ll definitely have to get better quickly, then!”

“It’s not a confession. We go on friend dates,(First Name),and that’s it,” Shota told her, sighing a little. “You’re more like a puppy than a cat.” He added, stopping once they made it to the gate.

“I don’t wanna leave so soon..” (First Name) muttered, giving him the best puppy eyes she could. “Can’t we at least go get some food together or something?”

“Absolutely not,” Shota said with a sigh. “Now get in the taxi.” He added, watching as the girl reluctantly got in the taxi. He waved her off calmly,a blank look on his face. His heart was racing despite his words.

But it's disintegrating

From all the medicine

From all the medicine

(First Name) was hospitalized three weeks later. A few days after Shota had rejected her request for a date, her health had taken a horrible turn until she could hardly get out of bed without vomiting.

“Shota, are you coming with me to visit (First Name)?” Hizashi asked his friend one morning before classes started.

“She’ll be fine without me going,” Shota said, not even looking at him. “Now get out,I need to finish my lecture.” He added. Hizashi glared at his friend for once, before he turned away.

“Fine, but (First Name)’s not gonna be happy about this, and you know that,” The blond said, grabbing the handle of the door. “I’ll tell her you’re busy, but don’t you dare visit her!” He snapped, slamming the door shut as he walked out.

Class 1-A was left in stunned silence for nearly ten minutes, with their teacher just standing there in silence the entire time.

“Sensei…?” Momo asked nervously after a while. “Are you alright..?”

“I’m fine.” Shota said, returning to his lecture calmly. His head was a mess, but he knew he couldn’t face (First Name) yet.

That afternoon,Hizashi and a few of (First Name)’s old students went to visit her. The woman was too delirious to even remember their names properly, only able to remember Hizashi because she had known him for so long. She did manage to ask where Shota was,the girl looking sad when Hizashi told her he wasn’t there. When Hizashi returned to campus and marched into the Class 1-A dorms to hit Shota across the face, everyone was left in shock.

“You fucking asshole! You piece of shit! Shota, what the fuck is wrong with you!? She wanted to see you!” Hizashi snapped at him. He wanted to scream at him,but he knew he couldn’t or his Quirk would hurt everyone in the building.

“Mr.Yamada…?” Ochaco asked, her eyes wide and full of fear. She had never seen the teacher angry before, and even Izuku was frozen. Shota just wiped his now bloodied nose, looking at Hizashi blankly.

“Are you done now?” Shota asked, not really wanting to talk about this. “Let’s talk outside,Hizashi.”

“I’m nowhere near done,” Hizashi growled out, looking around at the students and sighing when he saw how scared they all looked. “Fine, let’s talk outside.” He growled out, stomping outside with Shota close behind him. “Now tell me why you don’t want to see her,Shota.”

“I don’t want to watch another person die,” Shota told him, sighing a little as he rubbed the back of his neck. “We lost Oboro, and I still can’t move on from that properly.. Losing (First Name) to cancer is even worse.. I don’t want to see her suffering.”

“She needs you,Shota.. I get that it’ll be hard for you,but don’t you think ignoring her when she wants to see you is even worse? You’ve been avoiding her since she got sick,Shota,it’s not fair for her.” Hizashi told his friend, sighing a little. He couldn’t force himself to be happy right now.

“I know that she needs me.. Fuck,I know better than anyone that she needs me right now,and I need her just as badly, but I’m scared,Hizashi,” Shota told his friend, tears rolling down his face already. He knew his students were watching from the window, but he didn’t care. “(First Name) isn’t that person, she’s the girl we went to school with. She’s the girl that helped design the best eye drops for me to help with my Quirk, the girl who loved teaching.. She’s not.. She’s not this.. She’s not sick.”

“(First Name) is sick,Shota. She’s been sick for nearly a year now,and she’s been fighting to stay alive for us this entire time so we wouldn’t lose her,but we need to let her go,” Hizashi told him, grabbing his friend’s shoulders and looking at his face. “You have to let go of her,Shota, because she’s not gonna come out of the hospital this time.. The doctor said she has less than a week left.”

“I can’t let go of her,Hizashi! We’re heroes! We’re supposed to die fighting a strong villain, together! Not one at a time!” Shota shouted, shoving his friend away. “(First Name)’s not allowed to die! It’s not right!”

“It’s not like she wants this either,Shota! Fuck, think of how she’s feeling for just a second! She’s been drowning in pill bottles for the last year trying to fight this thing! She’s been puking up blood, going to the hospital every two weeks, and forcing herself to eat even when she doesn’t have an appetite so she can stay alive for us!” Hizashi snapped, clenching his fists. “Fuck,Shota, she’s been doing all she can for us,so why can’t you visit her? Even if you’re scared, you should be able to do that much for her.. You’re her hero, right?”

“Fuck,Hizashi,of course I’m her hero. She’s said that since we were brats, but that doesn’t change anything..” Shota said, running a hand through his hair.

“As her hero, you owe her everything.. Shota, you have to tell her it’s okay to let go. She can’t breathe on her own,she hardly understands where she is,and she couldn’t even recognize her students,” Hizashi told him,his tone a bit gentler while still being stern as he once again grabbed his friend’s shoulders. “She needs you to tell her it’s okay,Shota.. If she’s gonna die,at least let her know it’s okay and that she doesn’t need to be afraid..”

“Fuck.. Fine,I’ll visit her tomorrow,” Shota sighed, finally calming himself down a little. “But I’m going alone.”

“Of course.” Hizashi told him, finally relaxing. “I’m sorry I hit you.”

Medicine

When Shota worked up the courage to visit (First Name) the next day,he was met with silence. Laying in bed,her skin feeling as cold as ice compared to usual, the girl couldn’t even force herself to speak when he first walked in.

“(First Name)..” Shota said softly, taking a seat beside her. She looked over at him, wincing a little as she did so,and gave him a tired smile. She was exhausted, and her whole body felt heavy, but she couldn’t give in just yet. “Hey.. I’m sorry for not being here yesterday.. I know you’d laugh at me right now if you had the energy,but.. I just.. I’m sorry. I should have been here for you.”

“Sho.. Sho.. ta..” She muttered out, wheezing a little.

“Don’t force yourself to speak right now,” Shota told her, grabbing her hand and pulling it to his face. He flinched a little at how cold her skin was, though he still pressed into her touch. “Hizashi hit me for skipping out yesterday, you know? He had every right to be angry at me,though.. I should have been here with you every time you came to the hospital, but I couldn’t,(First Name).. I couldn’t be here for you because I promised you I’d do my job as a teacher, and I fucking regret that I’m a man of my word,” He told her, letting out a dry chuckle. “But I’ve been a little too selfish, haven’t I? Expecting you to stay alive just for my sake.. I’m sorry,(First Name),I’m so fucking sorry.. I promised you I’d protect them, they’re all my students, but I should have promised to take care of you above everything..”

“I’m.. sorry..” (First Name) muttered tiredly, curling her fingers a little so she cupped his face a little better. “Sho.. Sor.. sorry..”

“Shh,it’s okay.. It’ll all be okay,(First Name)..” Shota told her, pressing closer to her hand and gripping it tighter. He was falling apart, but he needed to be strong. “I’m so sorry,(First Name),but it’s gonna be okay, alright? You can let go now. I’m not ready for you to leave me,but I know you need to let go.. I’ll take care of everything, alright? All of our students are going to miss you,but I’ll protect them.. I can do that much for your sake,so just.. Just let go,okay? Don’t be afraid..”

“Sho.. lov.. you…” (First Name) muttered, giving him the brightest smile she could. Her whole body felt heavy, but she couldn’t hold on any longer. She had declined the option of being put on a ventilator since she didn’t want to postpone the inevitable longer than necessary, but she was regretting it now. She wanted to stay with Shota forever. She wanted to be with her students and friends longer. “lov... yo..” She trailed off,her hand starting to fall away.

“I know.. I know,(First Name)..” Shota choked out, gripping her hand tightly as he listened to the flatline. He knew she was gone, and when the nurses rushed in,he just stood up and backed off.

What you want to be

(First Name)’s funeral was three days later, and Shota watched everyone in numb silence as they broke down. Her old students were sobbing as they stood there,Hizashi comforting them. Everyone knew Shota wasn’t ready yet.

Once the funeral was over,Shota got in a cab. He didn’t return to the dorms like he should have, heading to (First Name)’s place instead. Once the cab reached her place,Shota walked over to the door, pulling the key she had given him earlier that year out of his pocket. He let out a numb chuckle when he realized his hand was trembling, using his other hand to steady it enough to put the key in the keyhole and turning it. He opened the door in silence, looking around the dark entryway.

It took Shota five minutes to work up the courage he needed to step inside and turn the lights on. He slid his shoes off in silence, knowing there would be no answer if he called out. He had spent the last three days forcing himself to act tough, but being in the house that smelled so much like (First Name) was making him fall apart.

Shota slowly made his way to the living room, looking at the couch. Memories stung his head, forcing their way to the surface.

“I’m going to be a teacher!” (First Name) had told him a while after they had graduated from U.A..

“A teacher?” Shota asked, raising an eyebrow as he looked up at her. He was using her as a lap pillow once again, the boy having too much of a headache to sit up on his own.  “Why?”

“Nemuri told me that she wants friends to work with at U.A.,and she also told me she’s gonna sign you up as a teacher,” (First Name) told him, giggling when Shota tried to sit up. She pushed his head back down, knowing his headache would only get worse if he tried to force himself upright. “I told her she needs to ask you about it first, but I think you should give it a chance. If all four of us are there at U.A.,there’s no way in hell anything bad can happen to the students, right?”

“What does that have to do with us being teachers there,(First Name)?” Shota asked, sighing a little.

“Our Quirks aren’t made for battle, but both of us have found our own ways to help people, right? If we work at U.A.,training the next generations of heroes,we can help people help people,” (First Name) told him, running a hand through his hair. “Don’t you think we could help save even more people that way?”

“I’ll consider it,” Shota told her, sighing. “But don’t you dare sign me up for something like that without my permission.”

“I know,I know,” (First Name) said,giggling. “I’ll be good,I promise!”

Shota couldn’t stand being in the house any longer. Knowing she could no longer be a teacher led him to retreat out of the house, unable to stay there any longer. He would have to continue exploring her house another day.

What you said you were

When you met me

Shota approached (First Name)’s house again the next day, leaving Nemuri in charge of Class 1-A. He opened the door again, though this time he took only a few minutes to work up the courage to open the door.

Instead of going to the living room,Shota went to the kitchen, looking around. It was as neat as always, the man frowning when he saw all of his favorite snacks. She had always kept his favorite snacks around.

“(First Name),how come you called me out here today?” Shota had asked two years after they had graduated from U.A..

“It’s official! I’m officially on the path to be a teacher,Shota!” (First Name) told him happily, grabbing his hands and grinning up at him. “I got into my dream college!”

“You did? Seriously?” Shota asked, unable to hide his shock. When (First Name) gave him her acceptance letter,he picked her up and spun her around, letting out a laugh. “I’m happy for you! You’ve been studying really hard in order to pass the entrance exam, right? I’m proud!” He told her, grinning. He wasn’t able to contain his happiness for his friend. (First Name) just threw her head back as she laughed, holding onto him tightly.

“I had to tell you first, but I was wondering if you would be okay with coming over to my place to help me go over some of the material I’ve been studying?” (First Name) asked,Shota thinking about it for a minute before nodding.

“In exchange, you have to buy me all of my favorite snacks,” Shota told her, chuckling a little. “And alcohol.”

“My kitchen is always full of your caramel candies and your cat-shaped snacks,so we don’t even have to go shopping!” (First Name) said, winking at him. “You owe me one,Mr.Eraserhead!”

“Call me Shota, you dunce,” Shota told her, flicking her forehead. “Let’s get going, then. You need all the time you can get for studying,Ms.Teacher.”

(First Name) and Shota spent that night drinking and laughing,Shota waking up the next morning snuggled up with her on the floor.

Shota once again left (First Name)’s house, unable to face the rest of the house yet. He could no longer tease her for being an airhead.

You could still be

What you want to

It took three days for Shota to return to (First Name)’s house after visiting her kitchen. After having a breakdown and getting drunk off his ass,the man had to take two days off of teaching to recover from a massive hangover.

Walking into (First Name)’s house took Shota very little time. He peered into both the kitchen and living room, knowing nothing had changed in the house. He took a few deep breaths, walking into her ‘laboratory’. The girl had changed her spare bedroom into a makeshift lab in order to work on some experiments back when she’d first bought the house.

“Shota, look! Look at how pretty this place is!” (First Name) had bragged. She had graduated from her university earlier that year, but the money she made off of being a support hero had given her plenty of cash.

“It’s completely empty,” Shota told her, sighing a little as he walked around the empty little house. “And why is it so cold in this room?”

“There’s good air conditioning in there, right? I plan on making that room my laboratory! That’s why I bought this place!” (First Name) told him, looking like an excited puppy. “The better the air circulation, the less likely any of my experiments will be messed up,after all.”

“You’re starting at U.A. this year, right?” Shota asked, sighing when his friend nodded. “If you’re going to be a teacher, why even worry about new experiments?”

“Because I want to be a hero that my students look up to! If I work hard,I could even help come up with a cure to cancer!” (First Name) told him, grinning.

“(First Name),even with Quirks being as strong as they are,I’m pretty sure it’ll take a long time for them to make a cure.” Shota pointed out, ruffling her hair.

“And I’ll be part of the group that makes the cure!” (First Name) told him, grinning happily.

Shota wanted to run away, but he forced himself to stay. He needed to face (First Name)’s house, and face the truth that she would never be there.

What you said you were

When I met you

Shota forced himself to walk over to (First Name)’s room, pausing at the door. He gripped the handle tightly, taking a few deep breaths to steady himself before he flung the door open and looked around the room. The familiar scents and sights dragged him down, flooding him in memories he had desperately been pushing away.

“Shota, dance with me!” (First Name) had whined nearly three years prior, gripping her friend’s hands as she tried to dance with him. It was just a weird hip wiggle, but Shota didn’t really care. After one too many drinks,he tended to loosen up.

After spending nearly fifteen minutes doing stupid dances with no music in the background,(First Name) stumbled to her room,Shota close behind her. They both collapsed on her bed, looking over at each-other and laughing.

“If your students saw you drinking tonight, they wouldn’t believe it,” Shota said, chuckling as he pulled her close. “But you’re too cute when you’re tipsy,(First Name).”

“I’m not even drunk, you big bully! If Hizashi hadn’t told us about that cat-themed bar,we’d both be sober!” (First Name) whined, pouting a little as she snuggled into him.

“For someone who ‘isn’t drunk’,you’re wearing something you’d never wear sober,” Shota pointed out,his eyes trailing lower. She was only in a bra and a pair of shorts since she’d discarded her shirt after spilling her drink earlier. “Not that I’m complaining,of course.”

“Oh shut it,you perv! You’re lucky I love you!” (First Name) whined,Shota just laughing as he kissed her.

Shota had never told (First Name) he loved her,but damn did he love her.

When you met me

When I met you

Shota sat down on her bed, shutting his eyes as he buried his face in the pillows. He breathed in her scent deeply, trying to etch the familiar scent into his memory. (First Name) was everything to him,but she was gone now. She could never be a pro hero, nor could she be a teacher. She could never tell him that she loves him again, and Shota Aizawa had never felt as empty as he felt that day when he realized that.
