The Gruff Guardian

Sun and Octavia had their hands full with 16 kids this morning.

Sun was playing grocery store with the kids, while Octavia was getting out stuff for snacktime. Today's snacks were cookies and apple juice.

Octavia whistled and all the kids stopped what they were doing and looked at her.

"Alright, I want everyone to line up in a single file and come get a snack, then after snacktime its naptime, alright?" All the kids nodded.

"Yes, Miss. Nightwood!" The kids lined up as Sun stood up stretching his robotic limbs.

Octavia gently handed each kid their snack as they took seats around the table.

Sun whistled and smiled.

"You're pretty good at wrangling kids for snacktime Octavia" Sun put his hands behind his back as he stared down at her.

"Thanks, Sunny" Octavia smiled slightly and watched the kids eat and talk with one another as they enjoyed their snacktime. "So what's naptime like?" Octavia looked up at Sun and he seemed to shrink back slightly if that was even possible for a 12-foot animatronic. "What's wrong?"

"I, naptime, is, I don't like the dark actually" Sun rubbed the back of his neck, frowning slightly. Octavia was told of this and nodded slightly.

"Why don't you like the dark?"

"B-because, he comes out, and, he's not nice usually and I'm afraid" Sun tapped his fingers together. Octavia looked confused. Who was Sun talking about?

"Whose he?" Octavia asked, curious, dangerously curious.

"Y-you'll find out sunshine" Octavia blushed at the nickname all of a sudden. She didn't know why but it just made her feel, weird.

"Alright...?" Octavia was intrigued by this. But she pushed it aside and focused on her job. Some of the kids were yawning, getting tired. "Alright kiddos time for naptime, let's get over to the nap area." Octavia guided the kids over to the nap area, where pillows, mats, and blankets lay.

Sun had disappeared from view. Octavia wondered where he went, but as she got the kids all settled for naptime, the lights went out, and glow-in-the-dark stars illuminated the area, but Octavia still freaked out.

Octavia adjusted to the darkness and slowly backed away from the sleeping children, she walked towards the security desk, when she suddenly bumped into someone, someone tall.

She moved back and squeaked softly looking up, glowing red eyes met her multicolored ones. They glowed with an eerie presence.

"Hello starlight..." A cold, raspy voice made its way to Octavia's ears.

"Uhm h-hi?" Octavia felt a chill go up her spine.

"You must be the new daycare assistant... what a cute chubby thing you are" the voice spoke. Chubby? I mean Octavia was a bit on the chubbier side, but to have it said like that, so blunt? "Cat got your tongue starlight? Hmm?"

"N-no just thinking, uhm who are you?" Octavia stared at the tall animatronic.

"Did Sun not mention me? How rude. My name is Moon. I'm the nighttime animatronic" Octavia adjusted to the darkness and noticed Moon's coloring was different compared to Sun. He had blue and white coloring, and a nightcap on his head, decorated in stars. His pants had yellow stars, which glowed in the dark slightly. "Staring is rude... starshine"

"S-sorry, you're just so... different from Sun..."

"Is that a bad thing?" Moon asked bending down, putting his face close to Octavia's. Octavia squeaked and shook her head, blushing slightly.

"N-no, it's not! Honest!" Octavia quickly waved her hands in defense. Moon chuckled lowly and stood up straight.

"No need to be so worried, I don't bite... unless you want me to" Moon chuckled again and slowly walked off to the children, since some of them fussed. Octavia blushed harder and fanned herself slightly. Why was this animatronic getting to her?

Octavia headed back to the security desk, doing some boring paperwork. Octavia could hear soft lullaby music playing from the nap area. Octavia was focused when suddenly she gasped as she met a pair of glowing red eyes standing in front of the security desk.

"Jesus Moon!" Octavia harshly whispered.

"Hehehe, did I scare you starlight?" Moon snickered and put his hands on the desk leaning against it. Octavia put a hand on her chest, steadying her breathing.

"Yes, you did, what're you doing? Shouldn't you be watching the kids?" Octavia questioned. Moon glanced over to the kids and then back to Octavia.

"They're asleep for now, so we've got an hour to ourselves"

"Righttttt" Octavia went back to finishing up the paperwork, Moon seemed to stare at her intensely. She glanced back up at Moon and frowned slightly. "Must you watch me?"

"You're just so interesting to watch," Moon said sarcastically.

"Haha funny" Moon grinned, a sharp toothy grin, Octavia noticed his sharp teeth. "Why are your teeth so sharp?"

"Design choice"

"Weird" Octavia finished up the paperwork and scooted back, stretching her body slightly. "There all finished with the paperwork for today"

"So Miss. Nightwood, how are you liking the job so far?" Moon asked in earnest.

"Moon you don't have to call me that, Octavia is fine" Octavia looked at Moon. "And the job is great so far, I actually like my co-workers, no matter how weird they are" She smirked at Moon. He seemed to put his hand on his chest and gasped slightly.

"Me? Weird? Why madame I find offense in that" Moon closed his eyes, opening one to glance at Octavia. Octavia snickered and walked around the desk, patting his arm.

"There's nothing wrong with being a little weird Moonie" Moon blushed a light blue blush at the nickname.

"That's a new nickname for me. Usually, it's Meanie, Mr. Scary-Face, or Mr. Creep" Moon listed off nicknames he's been called. Octavia felt a little bad.

"That's mean, who calls you that?" Moon stared down at her.

"The parents, and some of the children occasionally" Octavia looked at him.

"You don't deserve to be called those" Octavia said quietly. Moon just stared at her, before brushing her hand off. He shrugged. Octavia stared at him.

"It's fine I'm used to it" Moon stated, his grin turning into a frown.

"You shouldn't be though!" Octavia crossed her arms. "You should be cared for just as equally as Sun!" Octavia was determined to make Moon understand this. Moon's eyes widened and he just stared at her with a look of shock.

"Do, you mean that starlight?" Moon whispered.

"Of course I do. I believe you should be treated as equals, your night and day, both deserve the same attention and upmost care" Octavia nodded slightly.

Moon blushed harder before his attention was drawn to the kids, as one of them began to cry.

"Be back" He said as he slunk away into the darkness of the daycare. Octavia blushed and put a hand on her cheek. What did she just say to him? She meant it though, they deserve to be treated equally.

She sat down, thinking about what she said. Her heart thumped softly and she breathed softly. Lunchtime couldn't come faster.
