Run

Izuku’s hiding in his room.

He doesn’t like that he’s here and he has a plan to get out.

His mother, Inko Midoriya, she used to be the nicest person he knew, that changed on his 4th birthday, his father left and never came back after seeing what he became.

She became twisted with despair and lately rage, taking it out on the nine year old as if it was his fault. Cutting off all relations to the outside world. He hasn't seen his best friend in so long… Then again, what would Kacchan think if he saw him like this?

If Inko wants him gone then fine, he’ll leave. To where is the question..

It really didn't matter. The orphanage already refused him before, meaning he would have to live on the street. It's not ideal but it would work out for both of them.

His mother knocks right as his bags are packed. Not like he has much, a few books and clothes. His toothbrush, it's not like he owned anything valuable.

“Izuku… what are you doing in there?” The strained voice of his mother calls out to him.

“Just reading.” He answers, hoping she would just walk away.

“You know not to lie to me young ma-” The door knob jiggles. “WHY IS THIS DOOR LOCKED YOUNG MAN!”

“Sorry, but you want a new life, right? I won't be here anymore.” Smoke fills his room as the few things he couldn't pack burned. Jumping out the open window and closing it right as his mother burst through the door.

He didn't look back, it wasn't hard. He just kept running, and running.

He cant feel his feet anymore but he keeps moving. His green skin and tusks make people eye him suspiciously.

He could care less, for once in his life he was FREE.

___________________________________________________________________________

Not even a week later he found someone like him. An outcast who ran.

Their first introduction was odd but they grew close, in a sense, over time..

The blonde tried to bite into him, her fangs couldn't break his skin, and neither could her knife.

Remembering the moment now he thinks how weird it is that he befriended her. Even giving her blood from time to time.

That’s how he learned about her quirk, Transform.

Her Quirk grants her the ability to transform into a physical lookalike of any one else as well as copy their voice.

But she can only transform into people whose blood she has ingested. The more blood she drinks, the longer she has access to that person's form. She can even duplicate a person's clothing, though, her own clothes would overlap the transformation, requiring her to get naked beforehand.

Izuku found that out the most embarrassing way possible.

Upon deactivating her Quirk or switching to another disguise, her disguise melts into a gray viscous liquid.

The blonde is their main way of getting by while Izuku acts like back up.

They each practice their quirks every day. Living on the street was hard but as days turned into weeks and weeks into months then years. They fell into a rhythm of pick pocketing and knocking people out for a little bit of blood and food.

Izuku was hesitant at first but the more that he saw of the dark underbelly in japan, the more he feels like he should do anything to get by.

“Zuzu stop with the note book and look at what I got!” The blonde exclaims.

Putting one of his ‘many’ notebooks down, the boy looks up. “What did you pick pocket this time, Himiko?”

“We got a phone!” She said, pulling a smart phone from her pocket.

“They can track that you know.” The greenette says.

“Nope! This is a burner phone made to be thrown away. As long as we dont use it to call we should be fine right? Also that guy was loaded, look at this.” She pulled out a leather wallet and inside were 10,000 yen bills, and not just a few either.

“Wow, score!” He says jumping off the dumpster he was sitting on. “With this we could-”

“Get real phones!” The blonde says as energetic as ever.

“No, at least not at first… when is the last time you went to school?” He asks.

“When I was five? Maybe six? Don't really know any more.” She says dismissively.

“We can't keep living this way, so I have a plan.” The blonde tilts her head and Izuku explains. “First we need to go to school to even have a chance, but we both know not all heroes are bad. There were a few that gave us money or food.”

“There was that one girl that gave us food, she was cute! Yeah but there's still ones like endev-whore. He tried to burn you!” The blonde flashes a look of anger.

“In his defense he thought I was a villain.” He tries to stick up for the hero.

“That only proves my point!” She all but yells.

“I guess, well back to the matter at hand. What if we become heroes?” He asks.

“Pft haha yeah right, good joke!” She says counting the cash.

“I’m serious, what if we become heroes and help others like us? Make the world easy to live in?” She stops and sighs.

“Zuzu, you’re smart, but at the same time dumb as all hell. How are we supposed to become heroes? And on top of that change society”

“Can't be too hard.” He says with a jagged smile.

“What's your plan?” The girl crosses her arms.

“Well first we go to school or well, at least get the curriculum and teach ourselves. With a good enough score we can get into UA. From there it will be easy to be heroes when you're trained by the best around.” Izuku says.

“But doesn't UA have a practical exam?” The blonde asks.

“Well we just have to train our quirks, so how about it?”

“Hmm, fine but where would we go to school?” Himiko seems to be into the idea at this point.

“Somewhere that shouldn't care about two new students, so a run down district that more less has a good curriculum. Also we need a place to call home near there, I'll see if I can get a job now that I'm 13.”

“Why? We’re stacked right now!” The blond nearly yells.

“That's just it, right now. Even a minimum wage job will secure a stable income. I'm not saying to stop pick pocketing but if we can move to not relying on it we might be able to slide under the radar more.” He points out.

“Guess you’re right. So school and job hunting huh. Better start now before we become high schoolers without any skills.” She crosses her arms

“But university is the plan so studying is mandatory, we have to be at the top of the class.”

“Um… we can't use real names can we?” She asks.

“I… I think it's best not to for now, but we have to for UA.” Izuku looks to the darkened sky.

“Ok so, I at least have high school to be normal.” Himiko says.

Unbeknownst to them, the one that they stole from was watching them from above, their quirk giving him all the information he needed.

‘They’re only kids, cast out on the street. I can't turn them in. What wrong have they really done in the end? Plus they’re trying to better themselves, might as well keep an eye on them though.’ The man thinks to himself.

He tunes back into the conversation as they continue talking about their plans.

“So where to? What place can we hunker down for a bit?” Himiko asks.

“Hmm, the Shizuoka Prefecture is full of poor areas and it's close to UA, so we won't have a long time to move everything into the dorms. Seaside or?”

“Yes please~”

“I know the perfect place… the question is will anyone recognize me?”

“It's your old home isn't it?” She says it more as a statement than a question.

He answers anyway. “Yeah… Musutafu … I doubt anyone would recognize me though. So it's the perfect place to learn.”

“Well let's go! We don't have all year!” She starts gathering the campsite materials. Two ragged backpacks housed everything. They packed and moved quickly.

‘They were used to moving around like this… I should see if someone can check up on them.’ the man thinks before tailing the two.

Izuku and Himiko run off, taking back roads until they arrive in the boy’s home town. Unknown that they were tailed the whole way.

Izuku finds an apartment for cheap, he can see why, it's right next to a beach that is filled with garbage. Another reason he bought an apartment there.

A small two bedroom apartment, but it was up to date on everything and even came with cable, furnished and hot water. It was only so cheap because of the beach and Izuku pays for a year's worth of rent, making a deal with the landlord that if he cleans the beach then they’ll keep this low rate while he bumps up the rest of the apartments.

The man was eager for the deal and took it immediately. As the two shower for the first time in who knows how long they throw all their clothes in the washer, wearing only gym shorts and a (very much stolen) summer dress respectively.

They fell asleep easy that night. Each thinking a variant of the same thing.

For Himiko, she isn't a monster or vampire. Not some demented kid that wants blood. Just a normal girl with a quirk. She fell asleep with a smile on her face.

For Izuku, he isn't a monster or demon. For once he is himself, not an Oni. The thought puts him to sleep with a smile on his face.
