Prologue
Rebekah Mikaelson, a vampire, a sister, a friend sort of, a monster to some, and now she was a mother.
A mother to her niece Hope Mikaelson. Of course, she’d made sure Hope always knew her actual mother, she’d never take that from someone.
When she was given the responsibility from her brother to take of her, she was surprised.
Surprised that he trusted her with his daughter.
When Hope was about seven or eight, she’d found some picture of their family when she was just a baby.
“Aunt Rebekah.”
“Hm?”
”Whend we take this?” Hope showed the blonde the picture.
Rebekah took it from her and smiled. “When you were only a baby, love.”
“How come they sent me away.”
The question had been asked a trillion times before, but Rebekah was never ready to answer.
“Well, they did it to protect you.”
Hope looked at her aunt. “Protect me? From what?”
”Bad guys, love. People who wanted to see you hurt. They don’t want that for you.”
“Do you think they’re gonna come back?”
“I do.” Rebekah said, sitting next to her niece. “When New Orleans is finally safe for you, they’ll come back.”
When Hope was twelve, she’d met two kids of the names Iris and Barry. Hope had become friends with the two very quickly. She’d leaned that Barry’s mother had died and his father went to jail for it. And now he lived with Iris and her family.
Hope was also told by Barry himself that he didn’t think his dad did it. That it was a something else. Something that was… Impossible.
Hope had believed him, because she was the impossible. She’d never told her friends about what she was. She was afraid of being seen as a freak or some monster.. Her aunt had told her to be careful of who she told her secret to.
