The Internship
“Ms Nova Storm it’s so nice to finally meet you” Mei bowed in respect to the 6’0 tall hero standing before her.
“No need for any ‘Ms’ bs, just call me Nova okay?” She spoke with a wide smile on her face “Now today I will be taking you for a tour of our building, we’ll get you settled down and maybe have a quick training session but that will be about it”
“Wow I didn’t expect for you to take it easy on me” Mei giggled trying to ease her nervousness as she spoke without thinking and was now scares shitless that she crossed the line.
Her fear was eased when Nova Storm let out a roaring laugh and placed a hand on Mei’s shoulder “Oh don’t you worry little intern I’m only being kind to you today because starting tomorrow you’ll be waking up at 5am and you’ll be doing non-stop training with me, patrols with members of the company and you’ll only eat if there’s time.”
Mei stood there a little taken back, it’ll be hard but at least all the early morning training sessions she has with her brother and used to have with her father will finally pay off. “All apart of the life of a hero I guess”
“Precisely, see I knew you would understand, that’s why I sent an invite for just you, I doubt anyone else would be able to keep up with my training regime” Nova ushered the two of them into a car and instructed the driver to drive them to her apartment.
“Nova you flatter me but I know a lot of heros in training who would’ve been perfect for your company” Mei tried to hide her blush as it wasn’t every day you get complimented by the highest ranking female hero and your personal idol.
Nova turned to face her with a serious look on her face “Now don’t get me wrong, the people in your class do seem strong and they will all turn out to be wonderful heros in their own ways, but it is unbelievably clear to see that you have the most potential to make it big, your control over your quirk is way beyond anything expected of a person in their first year of hero training, and you clearly keep yourself physically fit on your own volition, that showing you already have an unbelievable amount of determination and you’re no stranger to hard work, now don’t get me wrong we’re going to have to work on that little outburst you had when your friend was chained up, but apart from that im betting everything I own and will ever own that you are and will continue to be the strongest in your class, maybe even your school one day and with that you will make an excellent pro which I will be unbelievably proud of”
Mei was speechless and it was pointless to hide how flustered she was, it was written all across her face, it took everything she had to stop herself from crying. Before she could embarrass herself by trying to say something, Nova announced that they had arrived at her home which was a penthouse apartment in a rich neighbourhood, once inside she didn’t spend too much time looking around as Nova just showed her, her room and said she could look around when they got back later. They got back into the car and after a quick 5 minute drive they were at Nova’s agency.
The building was tall enough to reach the clouds, Mei started to wonder if Nova had a thing for high places, leaving the top floors invisible to the people on the floor, it was a building made of almost entirely windows, after the first few floors the building receded back making space for a small forest with plants extending both above and below. Mei could see some people walking near the plants, Nova explained that there was a garden on the top of that floor which served as a place where heros can go to take a break from their exhausting days and be with nature. She continued to say that all the glass was made to withstand a missile launch from the outside but on the inside all it took was a simple chair to the glass and it would shatter, it was perfect in case of an attack. There were giant gold letters that read ‘The Nova Storm Hero Company’ just under the garden.
As Mei entered the building she saw that the first floor was a massive reception room with sofas and tables with chairs scattered all across the floor, the walls were an emerald green with gold embellishments while all the furniture was various shades of black and grey. In one corner there was a board that stretched from the ceiling to the floor of pictures of pro heros with their names underneath with their various accomplishments, with a sign in the middle saying “No accomplishment is small when the outcome is a better day for someone somewhere”. From seeing how everyone approached Nova Storm and greeted her she could tell that everyone loved and respected her. Once she got to the second and third floor, which were apparently spaces for the heros to just relax in-between patrols and other things, she saw that there were food and drink stations at either side of the floors, and with the expected sofas to sit in there were hammocks hanging from the ceilings and bean bags all over the floor. All Mei could think of was 1) she definitely chose the right agency to intern at, 2) if she ever got an agency of her own this was definitely the vibes she would want. The tour took another hour in which Nova showed her the medical wing, all of the training floors (there were like 3, all filled with heros sparring) and once she finished going to everyone to introduce Mei to them, she took her to the very top floor which was her office. It was elegant beyond belief, a desk right in the middle splitting the two sides of the room, one half with a sofa and a TV and on the other side there was a screen covering the entire wall with maps of events that need hero supervision, where all of her employees are and the status of everyone. Out on her balcony Mei looked down and as the clouds cleared for a minute she noticed that she could see Nova’s apartment very clearly, maybe that’s why she took the penthouse she thought to herself.
“Right babe you ready for a quick sparring session?” Nova said bringing Mei out of her trance.
“Ready as I’ll ever be” Mei’s usual cockiness went straight out the window when she remembered she actually had to fight a 6’0 muscular god capable of fucking her up with one punch.
“Oh don’t worry I wont do anything to that beautiful body of yours, can’t have people thinking I abuse my interns” Nova smirked
“Yup that definitely calmed my nerves” They arrived at one of the empty training rooms.
“Listen if by the end of this week you can land a hit on me I will consider this partnership a success” Nova assumed her fighting stance “Now let’s go no quirks just fists”
As soon as Mei got into position Nova sprinted in her direction, had she blinked Mei would’ve completely missed her attack. She thought that she was good at high speed attacks but by comparison she moved like a new born walking for the first time. By some unknown magic Mei managed to miss Nova’s fist by an inch, which resulted in her getting a quick ‘nice’ from Nova, before she let it get to her head Nova threw another hit.
It was non-stop hits from Nova’s side for a good 2 minutes, Mei hadn’t had the chance to even attempt a hit, her entire mind was focusing on defence since Nova was coming at her with an incomprehensible speed from every single side, after she threw a hit she would move to the opposite side forcing Mei to constantly move. In the middle of Nova’s hits, Mei felt a presence appear at the door obviously she was in no position to focus on who it was. After another hit combination from Nova, Mei managed to notice a pattern, she goes for 2 punches one on either side followed by a kick ever 30 seconds or so. She decided that next time she saw her going in for it she was going to attempt to finally land a hit instead of just defending. It was time, Mei saw Nova raising her leg so she decided to move out of the way letting Nova hit straight air and in the time it took Nova’s leg to return to the ground Mei had appeared on the opposite side and proceeded to attempt a roundhouse, she got so close and started to fill with hope, this was it she was finally going to land a hit. 2 inches before she made contact Nova caught her leg and pulled her in, effectively lifting her off the ground before letting her drop down.
“Good that was good, I’m impressed you managed to catch onto the pattern I was using” Nova extended a hand to Mei.
“Hey Nova don’t be surprised if I steal your intern one day” the voice in the doorway said.
“Rumi when did you get here?” Nova went to the No.6 Rabbit Hero standing in the doorway.
“About a minute and a half into the fight” Mei responded.
“You managed to notice me and you didn’t get distracted? I like you even more intern, what’s your name?” Miruko asked.
“Seki Mei, its an honour to meet you” Mei bowed, she was honestly starting to feel overwhelmed with the amount of strong female pros she managed to meet in one day. Holy fucking shit its pro hero Miruko I might throw up she thought to herself…. Or so she thought
Why the fuck are you telling me this
Who the fuck is in my head
Bakugou you dumb fuck, you started this how do you not know who you’re talking to
Oh wow I was just freaking out I had no idea I was speaking to you
Focus on your work dumbass
Aye aye sir
“Seki Mei.. you’re that one that ripped the thing off the aggressive boy at the sports festival and tried to attack that one helper out right?” Miruko questioned.
“Yeah unfortunately that was me…” Mei was embarrassed to see it being brought up so many times in one day, no pro was willing to let her live it down apparently.
“That was so badass, I cant believe All Might stopped you, I wanted to see you beat the shit out of that guy, it would’ve been quite the show” She laughed.
“Badass maybe but we’re going to have to work on some self-control aren’t we” Nova glared at Miruko.
“I definitely didn’t handle it as well as I could’ve but personally I don’t regret it and I would do it again if I saw them putting a good friend in such ridiculous and unnecessary gear” Mei spoke up.
“Good on you babe, but if you’re going to beat the shit out of someone, doing it at a live sports festival in front of all those people isn’t ideal, do it in private” Nova sent a wink in Mei’s direction. “Take a breather while I speak to Rumi”
Mei went and grabbed her water bottle and took her phone out to check on how her friends are doing, just as she was about to read the responses Miruko spoke “I’ll be seeing you some more this week, and if Nova lets me maybe I can spar with you later” Miruko sent Mei a smile and then walked out.
“Right you ready for some more training?” Nova walked back to Mei’s side.
After another hour of training where Mei was focusing on blocking Nova’s intense attacks and Mei throwing one punch for every 100 of Nova’s, Mei got thrown to the ground one last time before Nova decided it was time for them to stop for the night. After Mei showered, the pair made their way to the canteen where Mei decided to scoff down a 3 course meal in 5 minutes. They finished eating and Nova took Mei to the meeting room which resembled a war room, there was a giant round table with enough chairs for every single hero in the agency, each hero had their own assigned seat with a small microphone. The centre of the table was a screen that reflected what was shown on the giant wall, the image on the screen was an enlarged map of Japan. As each hero spoke about their events of the day they used the small control screen by their seats to show the rest of the agency anything they needed shown. Eventually an hour passed and Mei could confidently say that Nova was her idol, she watched the way she spoke to her subordinates, and even though most bosses would treat their employees in a way to show the hierarchy, Nova was different. She cared about all her employees and spoke to each of them like they were her equals, there were some moments where she had to get serious and issue a warning but you could see no one was scared of her, instead they all valued everything she said to them and they knew that anything she said was meant with love and meant to be constructive criticism. It was truly inspirational to see a woman so strong and so feared by villains to be a source of security and compassion to those who work with her.
The meeting ended and with a last few goodbyes Mei and Nova made it back to her apartment, this time she had enough time to look around and what she discovered was that everything was meticulously labelled and organised. Mei couldn’t find a single thing out of place, even when she was grabbing a spoon for her hot chocolate she noticed that all the spoons were perfectly stacked on top of each other.
“Hey Nova is there a reason why you have everything so organised?” Mei asked as she sat down on the couch and gave Nova her cup.
“In a world where there are so many uncontrollable variables I like to have a space that I can have an absolute and unwavering control over.” Nova replied as she sipped on her drink “Also it just makes everything so much easier to find”
The pair sat and watched a movie while they chatted and from all the stories Nova told her from her childhood, it became clear to Mei that the two of them were quite similar. As the movie was playing Mei thought it was a perfect opportunity to check in on her friends, luckily they were all within mind link distance so she used that instead. After talking to almost all the members of the Baku squad the movie had almost finished, she decided to end the night with Bakugou.
Hey bitch boy you free to talk?
Obviously what else am I going to be doing at 10pm
Well I’m honestly surprised that you’re still awake
Yeah fuck you what do you want
How was your day Suki?
Fucking shit all this guy cares about is my so called hero image, he hasn’t done any training with me at all, its such a waste of my time
I don’t think it’s a waste of time since you’re already a strong person its just your ability to control your emotions is lacking so I think hes doing a great job
I haven’t even told you the worst fucking part
Oh please do tell
He slicked my fucking hair down…
No I refuse to believe this you’re going to have to send me a photo.
Mei didn’t hear a response but a few seconds later she saw her phone buzz and once she opened the message from Bakugou, she realised it was true. His usual spikey unruly yet surprisingly soft mess of hair had been gelled down to a side part. Mei didn’t hesitate to burst out laughing, leaving Nova no choice but to see what she was laughing at. Once she saw, she too started hysterically laughing “Is this the kid you helped at the sports festival?” She asked in between breaths.
“Yeah he’s interning with Best Jeanist and he’s helping him with his public image” Mei responded.
“He’s cute are you two a thing?” Nova asked with a wide smile on her face.
“Oh absolutely not, he might be my best friend but we only stopped hating each other a few weeks ago” Mei answered as she took a screenshot of the photo and told Bakugou she loved his hair.
“I mean if you moved from hating each other to being besties in a few weeks, who knows what might happen” Nova was suggesting something that Mei didn’t know how to feel about.
If you fucking show anyone this I’ll kill you
I mean I did show Nova but she said you looked great
Tell her I said fuck you
I will do no such thing she’ll end up kicking me out of her house
You’re staying at her house instead of a hotel?
Yeah why?
That’s kinda weird don’t you think
Nah bro we get along really well, we’re actually pretty similar expect for the fact that shes so much stronger than me
No shit she’s stronger than you, she’s a pro for a reason
I actually wanted to cry earlier, she was complimenting me so much saying that im going to be a great hero and that anyone who says otherwise is crazy, oh oh and she also said I’m easily the strongest in the class and one day I’ll be the strongest in the school.
Again why are you telling me all of this obvious bullshit
What you think she’s telling the truth
Listen here you dumb bitch and listen good because I’m never repeating this ever again, everyone knows you’re the strongest in the class and if we were to go all out and fight I would only manage to win by a hair, you’re easily going to end up in the top 3 of Hero Rankings, I’ll obviously be first but you just might be second
Suki that is the nicest thing I’ve ever heard you say, I don’t know how to respond
Then don’t, just go to sleep because I know for s fact Nova Storm is going to kick your ass tomorrow and I don’t want to hear you complain that you’re tired or I’ll have to come to you and help her in beating your ass
I mean if were close enough for mind links to work you must be pretty close to me
I can hear you a lot clearer now than I could when you were at the agency and the agency was 5 miles away from where I was patrolling so I’d say im in the nearest hotel to you
You’ve been stalking me haven’t you
Fuck off no chance
Well how else would you know I was 5 miles away from you when you were on patrol
You see I have this thing called a brain and it helps me to be aware of my surroundings, now go to fucking sleep before I kill you
Okay goodnight Suki, sweet dreams and sleep well
Goodnight Mei
At that point the movie ended, Mei and Nova said their goodnights and then went to bed considering they would be starting their days in 6 hours.
-
Mei woke up at 4:45 and got herself ready and her day began with a 15km run around the local park, Mei was used to doing a 5K every morning so she knew the 15km wouldn’t break her but it would not be fun. 40 minutes passed and the pair arrived at the agency where they went straight to the training rooms for a 40 minute full body work out. Nova suggested the pair go for a 20 minute swim, Mei originally thought it would be a fun idea because she would be able to chill out in the water, she was sorely mistaken, Nova made her swim laps. But after getting out of the pool it was now 7am and they went to get breakfast and for the first time since she got up this morning she was allowed to sit down for more than 30 seconds.
“Our patrol starts at 12am, so we’re going to do some sparring for 2 hours then you’ll get some free time to go see what other heros are doing. Then we’ll be on patrol until 4pm, we’ll come back and eat and shit until 5pm then we’ll do quirk training until 9pm, sound good?” Nova told Mei in between shovelling mouthfuls of food.
“Oh yeah so much fun, I definitely wont want to cry by the end of the day” Mei suddenly lost her appetite.
“I know it’s a lot, I think you’ll be able to handle it but if it becomes too much you tell me and we’ll stop okay?” Nova said gently
“Thank you but I didn’t come here to give up, I’m going to do it all even if I have to crawl home” Mei straightened her back and spoke from her chest.
“Good, that’s my girl. Let’s go” Nova said picking up her now empty tray.
The training session was pretty much the same as yesterday but this time Mei was the one to launch herself at Nova, it didn’t help her chances of landing a hit but it did mean Mei got a smirk from Nova. Every 10 minutes or so, after Mei manged to sustain even more bruises by continuous and repetitive blocks, Nova would stop the pair and walk Mei through a fighting sequence which made the most of Mei’s advanced knowledge of martial arts. Once they walked through it slowly, they would add it into an actual fight to see how it played out. Slowly but surely Mei was gaining some confidence in throwing hits while blocking. None had actually landed but any progress is good progress.
Nova decided it was time to stop the sparring when she managed to elbow Mei straight in the nose, which obviously caused her to have a running stream of blood flowing down her face. Mei made her way to the medical wing while Nova went off to sort out some business, in the med bay Mei was greeted by a man who looked quite young maybe 23/24 Mei thought.
“Oh that is quite nasty, it’s a good thing its not broken otherwise it would be a bit beyond my abilities, Nova isn’t going easy on you is she” the male nurse said.
“Not at all but its good because I doubt any villains I encounter are going to go easy on me” Mei said while still holding a tissue to her bloody nose.
“Oh god I haven’t introduced myself yet, I’m Fuji and in the lead nurse here, the doctor is currently out so its just me here” Fuji said while wiping the blood off Mei’s face.
“I’m Seki Mei, I would bow but you’ve got a hold of my nose so I don’t know how that would work out” Mei tried not to flinch then he applied a hold compress onto the bridge of her nose.
“It’s lovely to meet you, now this shouldn’t hurt but if it does tell me because that will mean that I fucked up” Fuji removed the ice pack and proceeded to heal the cut running across Mei’s nose.
“Everyone here is so nice, its weird” Mei continued the conversation.
“Were you expecting us to be all big and scary and mean?” Fuji asked.
“Kind of, maybe not mean but I thought I would be quite nervous to approach them even though I know they’re heros and its their job to be approachable” Mei touched her nose to see how it felt.
“I was the same when I came here a year ago, but I have to say this really is one of the best hero agencies out there and I know I might sound biased but I think it’s the truth, but you’re all done so you’re welcome to go back to your intern duties” Fuji took off his blue gloves.
“Thank you I really appreciate it, I hope to see you around” Mei said as she walked out the door waving to Fuji.
She managed to get 5 meters out the door before she was basically tackled to the ground by who she quickly learnt was Nova Storms side kick, Shadow who as his name suggested had the ability to control shadows and darkness. He had pitch black hair and glowing orange eyes that matched Nova’s, he was ever so slightly taller than Nova but equally as muscular. He was dressed in a black stealth suit with orange lines going up his chest and down his back. To Mei’s surprise he was only 19 and he was already the No.5’s side kick.
“I’ve been looking for you everywhere, where have you been?!” Shadow asked in the way you would expect a hyperactive dog to speak if they got the ability to speak a human language.
“Nova made my nose bleed so I went to get it fixed, hope I didn’t make you wait too long, id dint know you were looking for me” Mei apologised.
“Oh no don’t you worry your precious self I just got told that you were going to be wondering around like a lost puppy so I thought I’d use this time to make your acquaintance” Shadow explained.
“Well it’s a pleasure to meet you” Mei did a quick curtsy.
“Oh but the pleasure is all mine” Shadow responded by doing a gentlemen’s bow with a hand across his stomach and one across his back. The pair giggled at the others actions, it was nice to know there was someone here that was near her age.
“Come Spectre lets go get the boring stuff out of the way, I’ll show you how to fill out an incident report and how we should ‘calmly’ address the authorities even though they’re all stupid” Shadow lead Mei to his office which was a floor below Nova’s, there he showed Mei how to do the reports and it was as mind numbing as anyone can expect.
An hour had passed, Shadow had given Mei a complete tour of the dull parts of hero work, but he managed to make the time go past quite quickly by making Mei laugh quite a bit by showing her his favourite hero fail moments.
“You know Nova was really excited to have you hear, and I see what she means now” Shadow told Mei.
“She was?”
“Oh yeah the second she saw you get past the robot in the obstacle race she was all like ‘She will be my intern I wont let anyone else have her” Shadow explained as the pair went to the canteen to grab a quick snack.
“Damn im scared to think what would’ve happened if I didn’t pick her now, what was her reaction to my outburst at the end” Mei asked.
“Okay so you absolutely can’t tell anyone because she will kill me if she finds out I told you, but since you are Nova’s first ever intern she had to take it to the Lawyers and boring admin people, they played that clip of you and said that you might be too aggressive and make the agency look bad” Mei’s heart fell at that statement.
Shadow continued “But Nova stood up and slammed her hands on the desk to draw their attention, then she said ‘Do you people know what a heros main job is? Anyone? Right I’ll tell you its to protect those who cannot protect themselves, and in that moment that boy has been caged up like a wild animal probably by heros he looks up to just because they think hes too angry, in those chains he’s vulnerable and she took it into her own hands to get him out, do you know what that is? It’s fucking heroic, if I was in her situation and I saw adults treat my classmates like that I too wouldn’t hesitate to take them out. So either I get her as my intern or you can consider yourselves fired”
“Holy shit, you’re joking right? Mei looked at Shadow with wide eyes and a look of disbelief on her face.
“I swear on the lives of everyone in this agency that that is what she said!” Shadow stood up with a hand on his heart and another raised in the air.
“Why is it when she spoke to me about it, she said that we would have to work on my little outburst” So far the main thing Mei had learned from her internship was that her mentor is basically her number 1 fan.
“Probably because she was the same when she was your age and she wants you to become as successful if not more successful than her, she’s just like that, a cool older sister and an overbearing mother all rolled up in one” Shadow suddenly jumped out of his seat “Oh my fucking god has anyone shown you the garden yet?!”
When Mei responded, Shadow took a hold of her hand and dragged her straight to the garden where they continued to talk until it was time for Mei to go on patrol with Nova.
-
Patrol with Nova was probably the least successful part of her day as the most interesting thing that happened when they went out into public was that Mei got to out her hero suit on and that she got recognised by some kids, as the strong scary girl from the sports festival. Soon 4 hours had passed and the duo made their way back to the agency, it was becoming the new norm for Mei to scoff her face with food at the agency. At this point she had no problems with the pro heros seeing her with sauce all over her face.
“Come Spectre darling it’s time for quirk training” Nova smiled brightly at the girl.
Finally this was the moment Mei was waiting for. Nova took the girl to an underground room that Mei had no idea existed, but apparently this was where quirk training happened as the walls were practically invincible.
“First things first I want to work on your defence, because in case a villain is too strong I want you to stay alive until a pro comes along okay?” Nova explained “I’m going to use my quirk to launch a bunch of attacks on you and all I want if for you to deflect them any way you can, if you hold off my attacks we’ll see if you can extend your protection to a larger area, then if you do really well I’ll get some other people down here to just test how much you can handle okay?”
Mei was already on the other side of the room so she gave Nova a thumbs up and she threw up her shield. Nova then started throwing energy straight at her shield but it didn’t budge, eventually they went through all the steps Nova suggested and Mei’s shield only broke down when she had 4 people attacking and she extended it to cover 5 dummies that were meant to act as civilians.
“I’m impressed Mei honestly, I knew your quirk was good but I honestly expected it to break as soon as 2 people fired on it, you did good kid, go get a drink and have a 10 minute break then were gonna do something else” Nova gave Mei a pat on the back.
After her break Mei and Nova talked about her eyesight when shes using her quirk. “So you can still see its just more like a mx of colours rather than shapes” Nova asked.
“Yeah pretty much people get different colours all the time so it’s just a case of seeing which colour blob moves and then I realise that’s the person so I hone in and focus on that one colour but it’s kind of hard to make out exact movements I can just see a general direction of the movement” Mei explained.
“So if I were to spar with you while you have a shield up I would be a blob and it would be more difficult for you to block me right?” Nova grinned.
Mei suddenly got shivers running down her back “I don’t like where you’re going with this”
“You’re going to love it, I think that’s a really important skill for you to have, you’re inevitably going to have to fight someone while using your quirk and if you can’t do both at once for extended periods of time you’re not going to get very far babe”
“I guess” Mei was not looking forward to the next 3 and a half hours of her life.
“Okay lets do this babe, you ready?” Nova asked getting into her fighting stance.
“Absolutely not” Mei threw a shield up to her back where there was going to be a person firing continuous shots at her shield.
At first Mei was getting thrashed. There is no good way to put it, the hits that she was able to block ended up straight in her face, chest and stomach. Even in close proximity Mei was barely able to make out Nova’s moves, the only good thing was that her shield appeared to hold and not let a single shot through. After an hour Mei had a split lip, a bloody nose, a giant purple bruise on her abdomen and her ears were starting to ring. The 20 minute break Nova had given her passed as though it were a single second. The next hour was better when it came to fighting Nova but her shield was now the thickness of a sheet of paper and cracks were lining it from top to bottom. Every now and then she would take her shield down for a second to attempt a hit on Nova, and when she got inevitably blocked and told off for letting her shield down Mei retuned back to getting her ass handed to her by Nova. Luckily this time she had managed to block a few of the hits, the colours never got a proper shape they were still blobby, but Mei started to notice the little shifts in shades coming from the blob. By keeping an eye on the shifts she got a slight sense of what was going to happen.
Mei was soon at her breaking point she had to let her shield down the pain was starting to give her a intolerable headache, and in the second she let her shield down she managed to get hit by Nova and she also got hit straight in the back by the other pro, luckily the shots weren’t meant to be damaging so it felt as if she just got hit with a slow tennis ball. But that was it Nova scooped her up and took her to the medical station.
“For fuck sake Nova are you trying to kill the child?!” Mei heard the doctor shout, at the same time she felt a wave of relief flood her and when she opened her eyes there were white butterflies all over her body where she sustained injuries.
“No I’m trying to make her unbeatable” Nova scoffed.
“Well she can’t be unbeatable if shes in a wheelchair or even dead, if I see her like this again im going to kill you myself” The doctor continued yelling.
“Fine, whatever” Nova retorted.
“What was that I must’ve heard you wrong” the doctor gave Nova such a death glare that Mei couldn’t help but giggle.
“Fine mother, I will make sure Mei doesn’t get that hurt in the future” Nova spat with her arms crossed.
“Mother?!” Mei yelped as she sat up too quickly, not realising she wasn’t fully healed.
“Yes I am her mother dear, now if you don’t lay back down and let me finish I’ll return you back to your previous state” The doctor halted the butterflies until Mei did as she said.
The rest of her night consisted of Nova taking her back to the apartment and forcing her to go to sleep at 9pm like a child. At 5am Mei woke and started her day with Nova like she did the previous one. Everything was identical to the last day, even down to the breakfast Mei had in the canteen.
It wasn’t until late that night that Mei got news of her 3 idiot friends being in hospital. Luckily due to her quirk and her mother being a doctor, Mei had already been to that hospital to help treat small injuries on the days that the hospital was busy. She quickly gave Nova the rundown of the situation who told her to go but to be careful, so Mei teleported to the hospital and through a mind link to Midoriya she found out what room her friends were in. She ran through the door, she spotted the 3 boys individually sitting in their beds all bandaged up. Mei sprinted to each of them and hugged them while saying shes so glad they’re okay. Once she had finished that she was ready to give them a piece of her mind.
“What the absolute fuck went through each of your heads, how on earth did you come to the conclusion that it was best to rush into a fucking battle with a HERO KILLER and not fucking contact me?” Mei screamed so loudly in fact that a nurse came in to see what was happening, after shooing her away none of the boys spoke up.
“Well, im fucking waiting, am I going to have to drag this information out of you, don’t test me today because I will. I cannot explain to you how fucking angry I am with the lot of you” Mei’s eyes were brimming with tears, god she hated when this happened. Whenever she got a bit too angry she started to cry, for no reason she might add.
“What if you died” A single tear managed to make its way down Mei’s face.
“I’m so so sorry Mei, I should’ve messaged you I know, but I didn’t want anyone else to get hurt” Midoriya finally spoke.
“Right so your logic is you would rather the 3 of you just fucking die, instead of calling someone else for help , when that way everyone definitely would’ve survived, great thinking really, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the smartest guys in class 1A” Mei did a twirl for her imaginary audience.
“Next time we are in a situation where our odds are similar to these we will make sure to get support” Todoroki stood up, just in time for the chief of police to come in.
After he spoke his utter bullshit, Mei and Todoroki were not having it, so the pair of them got to their feet and began to yell at the man with a dogs head. However after he cleared that up, and the boys reassured Mei that they would be okay, she returned to the agency where she carried on defensive training with Nova. Though it was no where near as intense as it was last time, with her increased ability to detect the small colour shifts, Mei was now blocking most of the hits thrown at her by Nova.
After that day, Nova decided that they would only spend one more day on defence before they got onto training Mei’s actual quirk. To Mei’s surprise Nova said she wasn’t going to work on attacking with her for 2 reasons, first of all most of the training she did in class with her peers would strengthen her attacking skills, and second Mei already had quite intense attacking capabilities with her quirk.
Another day, another 15km run that seemed to get easier this time, more time spent with Shadow going around and annoying the other heros working there. The two of them together soon turned into everyone worst nightmares, as the days went past, the 4 hours they spent together started to get too mundane, so what better to do than to prank people they thought. It stated off small, like putting a whoopie cushion under someone’s chair, spiking a coffee with hot sauce. But once it came to the final day, after taking selfies with all of her new friends there, so that she could remember the good week she had, Mei and Shadow thought it would be fun to superglue everything in Nova’s office to the ceiling. Had they worked in Endeavours agency, it would be instant firing for the two of them. Nova on the other hand just laughed and took pictures of the spectacle.
The last 3 days Mei’s training focused on her imagination manipulation abilities, Nova would take her out to forests and make Mei clear paths in the trees, then make the trees return After being able to clear half a football pitch worth of trees. Once the trees were cleared Mei stood in the middle of the cleared field and sparred with Nova as she had the previous days, the difference being with each passing day the shots being shot at her were coming from all directions, leaving Mei with 2 choices, 1) create a continuous shield that would stretch around her, or 2) try to sense where the shots were coming from and in that instance put up a shield. Obviously the first option was never going to work, but it wasn’t until her final day at her internship where she managed to successfully block all of the shots fired. That was also the day she managed to land a solid hit on Nova, so solid indeed she caused the pro hero to fall and land on her ass, Nova knew she did her job well.

It was over, her week long internship at the No.5 Pros agency, as Mei and Nova were waiting for Mei’s train back home, Nova decided to offer her something.
“I knew you could do it Mei” Nova squeezed her intern tightly “I’m so proud of you babe”
“I cannot thank you enough for everything you’ve taught me, I’m so grateful for you and everyone at your agency, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to repay you” Mei bowed as deeply as humanly possible.
“Listen I’ll tell you what, you come back to the agency whenever you can or want to go on patrol with us or just for a decent sparring session, like on weekends or whatever, then one day when you graduate from U.A and you need a job you come here” Nova offered while trying to keep herself from smiling.
“Holy shit are you serious” For what felt like the hundredth time in a week Mei was rendered speechless.
“Deadly serious, I told you I think you’re going to be one of the best heros out there and there is no chance in hell I’m letting anyone else have you, you’re my little hero baby and no one else’s!” Nova squeezed Mei yet again, this time she almost killed her with the sheer force of her hug, its as though she managed to forget how much taller and stronger she was.
“I’m honoured and I cannot wait to graduate now!” Mei grabbed her suitcase and waved her mentor goodbye.
“You go work hard and become even better okay?” Nova yelled.
“I promise I will make you even prouder!” Mei replied even louder.
With that, Mei was on a train back to her family and friends.
