Christmas time - family time
In the late afternoon, Oscar decided to make his own page, setting it up together with Lando.
He first followed Lando, Max, Pierre and Kika, directly followed by the McLaren and F1 accounts and Daniel.
Lando uploaded a post, stating that the rye bread recipe will be available on Oscar’s account and within an hour, Oscar had more than 100.000 followers.
“And they all want to know me?”
“Well, at least they are interested in what you are doing or cooking and baking.” Lando said.
“Okay”
“I just want you to know, not everyone is nice online. Some people will just say stupid stuff or something, please don’t take them seriously and if you do, feel free to talk about it to me or someone else, okay?”
“I will.” Oscar promised “Maybe I should have filmed the banana bread.”
“I’m sure you’ll find a lot of things to film.” Lando calmed him, holding Oscar tightly while he scrolled through Instagram.
“Lando, can I ask you something?” Oscar asked in the evening in their nest.
“You can ask me anything, baby.”
“There are a lot of clips with you and your former teammate Carlos, quite a few of them showing you really … close with each other. Was there something between the two of you?”
“Yes. After I started in F1, when we were still in the same team. He was the first man I … was with. It didn’t go well long term, as we’re both alphas, both really competitive, neither one of us really wanting to … bottom. We broke it off after about a year. He left to drive for Ferrari at the end of the season.”
“Okay, so … there are no feelings left?”
“No, there are not. We are friends, we go play golf before race weekends, go out to party after a good race sometimes, but there is nothing else happening.”
“Alright.”
“Alright? That’s it? I kind of thought you would go a little crazy.”
“Well, you never did anything to not let me trust you. I trust you to tell me the truth.” Oscar said, kissing Lando’s chest.
A couple days before Christmas, they packed their suitcases, as well as some presents they bought. Lando had told him they are not showering each other with gifts, that they are more like a little gesture, so they bought one for each.
Oscar insisted on making some cupcakes he now held protectively on his lap while the plane landed. Oscar’s nervosity heightened with every kilometre the taxi came closer to Lando’s parents’ house. Lando was paying the driver when the front door opened, Lando’s parents stepping out of the door.
Oscar got out of the car and waved at them quickly before trying to open the trunk while balancing the cupcakes.
“Oh, no, no, no, no, let me do that, you take care of the cakes!” Lando’s father said quickly, softly pushing Oscar on the sidewalk.
“Oscar, good afternoon, it is so nice to meet you! I’m Cisca, Lando’s mum.” She said and hugged Oscar tightly, helping him balance the cupcakes, "Come on, get inside, it’s way too cold here, they can take care of your luggage.” Cisca said, hurrying Oscar inside.
“I really missed you too, mum.” Lando said fifteen minutes later, sitting down on the couch opposite to his mum and Oscar.
“Oh, shush, you know I missed you, I don’t need to tell you that.” Cisca said to Lando, who already got back up.
“She got something new and exciting, remember when I bought her that hammock? She ignored me for a week and only started coming back inside because it rained.” Lando’s dad told Oscar “I’m Adam, by the way.”
“Oscar, it is nice to meet you.” Oscar said to him.
“LANDO!” Cisca yelled through the room, scaring them all.
“Mwah, Oscar these are amazing!” Lando said, his mouth full and frosting all around his mouth.
“THOSE WERE MEANT AS A DESSERT! TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF THE FOOD!” Cisca kept yelling, while Adam desperately tried to suppress his laugh.
“Welcome to the Norris household, Oscar!” Lando said before stuffing his mouth again.
“STOP EATING!” Cisca yelled.
“That was just the rest, I only ate one!” Lando started defending himself.
“You don’t just open stuff and eat it! You always insist on being a guest here because this is not the house you grew up in! You can’t be a guest and just open food that obviously is meant for a purpose! Just take something from the fridge!”
“But they were in the fridge!”
“They are still OBVIOUSLY special made! Look at them!” Cisca said, pointing at the cupcakes with white frosting and green and red sprinkles, each cupcake also had a little candy cane. Oscar had used the making of the canes as content for a Christmas special on his Instagram. “Go clean up! Go! Go! Bathroom, now! Grown-up my ass!” Cisca pushed Lando out of the room and put the cupcakes back into the fridge, taking a deep breath. “Oscar, would you like some tea or coffee?” she asked Oscar with a smile.
“Tea, thank you.” Oscar said, still swinging between shock and amusement about the situation. Back at home in Australia, they never would have been able to act like that in front of their father and his father would have never just sat back and just watch the chaos unfold.
They sat together in the living room for the rest of the afternoon, just chatting about everything and anything and after getting Lando and Cisca’s consent, Oscar uploaded a part of the cupcake dilemma on his Instagram.
“You know, after meeting your parents, I’m even happier I’m with you.” Oscar said when they laid in the bed in Lando’s childhood room.
“Why?” Lando asked, stroking Oscar’s hair.
“Well, where I grew up, no one would have just gone to the fridge and started eating something. My mom wouldn’t be the one yelling if it would happen. My father definitely wouldn’t sit by and watch … my mom yelling, me stealing food … your dad just watched you, he even laughed. It was nice.” Oscar said, drawing circles on Lando’s chest, feeling Lando swallow a couple of times. “Are you okay?”
“Am I okay? Oh god, Oscar of course I’m okay, it just makes me … it worries me that you weren’t able to just eat at your own house, that you had to ask your father for permission to do anything, that your father apparently never really played or laughed with you.”
When Oscar woke up the next morning, Lando already was awake.
“Hey, this is new. You waking up earlier than me.” Oscar said, rubbing his eyes.
“Yeah, I don’t really know why. Happy Christmas.” Lando said, kissing Oscar’s nose. “I got something for you.” He then added, getting out of their little nest and to his backpack, pulling out a little box. “I saw it at the jeweller’s and it just … fit, I thought.” Lando said, handing Oscar the box. Oscar sat up, opening the box, revealing a golden ring, adorned with small diamonds all around.
“Oh wow” Oscar let out “It’s so beautiful.”
“Let me” Lando said, taking the ring out of the box and taking Oscar’s hand, sliding it on Oscar’s left ring finger.
“Fits perfectly. I also have something for you.” Oscar said, getting up and pulling a little bag from his own backpack. “I brought a little bit of money from Australia, you know, what I had saved and I saw this while shopping the other day.” Lando opened the little bag, pulling out a silver necklace, the middle of the chain had two larger rings, intertwining with each other. The rings had a couple of stones on them, as well. “I know you don’t really like rings and you’re already getting so many bracelets from fans, I thought it would be a nice alternative … they are not real diamonds, though, only zirconia.” Oscar said.
“I don’t care. The gift itself counts more than what it’s made of. It’s beautiful, can you help me put it on?” Lando asked, letting Oscar close the clip in his neck. He turned back around, kissing Oscar and pushing him back in the nest, Oscar wrapping his legs around his middle, pulling him closer against him.
“Lando! Oscar! Breakfast is ready!” Cisca shouted while knocking on the door.
“Talk about a cockblock.” Lando said “We’ll be out in a minute!” he then shouted at the door, getting up and out of the nest, holding his hand towards Oscar, helping him off. “See you in a minute.” He then said, taking his bathroom bag and leaving the room.
Oscar quickly changed and then waited for Lando to come back, switching to the bathroom. They went downstairs together, holding the presents for Lando’s parents and sisters, who were all sat at the big dining room table, loaded with breakfast. They left the presents next to the tree and enjoyed their breakfast, Oscar getting to know Lando’s sisters Cisca and Flo as well. The presents were unpacked after breakfast, Lando getting some new golf balls and a beanie from his sisters, Oscar getting some fluffy omega socks and a knitted blanket.
“We weren’t really sure what to get, but those seemed like a nice thing.” Flo said.
“They are, thank you very much.” Oscar said, unfolding the blanket. “It will be perfect for our nest.”
They spent the day playing some board games and watching Christmas movies.
After preparing dinner, Oscar was pulled upstairs by Lando’s mum.
“Now, I want you to know that I don’t want to rush you with this, but Adam’s mum gave it to me after we mated, so I’m going to do that as well.” She said, guiding Oscar into the master bedroom and pulling a box from the upper shelves in her closet, handing it to Oscar.
He opened the box carefully, looking at a thin, yellow blanket, with some rabbits and cats stitched onto the fabric. “It was Lando’s baby blanket.” She added, making Oscar blush deep red. “As I said, it’s no rush, I know you two are young, you have a lot of time. Adam and I were mated for two years before we decided to get some pups.”
“Thank you” Oscar said, hugging Cisca.
