Bar Drama

Ann swings Chris' hand around in her own as they walk into the bar together.

She's learned to tune out when she hears her fiancé greeting people. She's not exactly proud of herself for it, but he has some kind of a magic power that compels him to turn 2-second interactions into 2-hour conversations.

Ann kisses Chris on the cheek before heading for a table in the back to talk to their friends.

"Hey, Leslie!" Ann says happily.

Leslie yanks her shot glass from her mouth and smiles at Ann. "Hey, Ann!" She returns the smile, and Ann quickly looks over to Ben, opening her mouth to say something before a sound behind her causes her to close her mouth.

"I'm here!" Chris says loudly. "I have LITERALLY never been so excited to see you guys. How's life in Pawnee?"

It may seem weird, the fact that Chris and Ann never see their best friends anymore because of their locations and the one time they do see them, decide to hang out in a bar. At the same time, its not, though. None of them have ever been the traditional type.

When Chris launches into a spiel about his favorite salad recipes, Ann makes a hasty exit.

"I'm gonna go get some more drinks," she says, dashing away toward the bar.

Ann leans against the bar after ordering, maintaining a polite expression as to not look impatient.

After a few moments of looking around, avoiding eye contact with random people, a pair of arms roughly grab her waist and she tenses up, knowing it can't be Chris holding her.

She turns her head slightly to see the obviously drunken man leering at her, and she gives him an uncomfortable smile before attempting to yank herself away from his arms.

That notion, however, is quickly delayed when his grip only tightens around her.

"Hey gorgeous," he says, his finger lightly tracing her jawline. It sends shivers down her spine but not in the good way.

"Go away," she pleads, the shock of the entire situation making her feel weak and helpless.

"I don't bite," he says.

"I'm not interested."

That only seems to make the man angrier, for his facial expression changes to match that and Ann internally wonders how the fuck she gets into these situations.

Suddenly, the black-haired jerk's hands are not longer on her, and she turns all the way around with a puzzled demeanor, her eyes softening when she sees Chris glaring at her assailant.

The man wordlessly throws his hands up in defeat and takes off far, far away from them and Ann can only breathe a sigh in relief at that fact.

Chris stands a few inches away from her, respectfully giving her some space. "Are you okay?" He asks in concern, but not without a trace of anger in his voice.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Ann replies, trying to quickly dismiss his concern, because unfortunately, this isn't her first rodeo, and probably won't be her last.

Chris being Chris, of course, doesn't seem to believe her. He looks at her through narrowed eyes, and Ann sighs in defeat.

"Can we talk about it later? I just— I want to have fun right now, and not think about that."

Chris reaches for her hand, giving her complete control on whether or not to take it. She smiles at him and slides her hand through his proudly, and they walk back to the table, where Ben is looking upon them utterly perplexed and Leslie a lot angrier.

They sit down at the table and exchange a soft look before turning back to their friends and continuing the horrendous salad conversation.

Later on, they're going to have to have a longer talk about it, and Ann doesn't totally mind that because despite all the jerks she's in some way ran into (and there have been a lot, believe her) none of them are the caring person she gets to come home to.
