How are baby gods born?
Gentle breeze carried the sweet scent of soft winter and in the heart of the valley where the primordial goddesses and their children awaited. The tree branches swayed in the breeze, circling their area and protecting the ritual in front of them. They gathered, observing the ritual unfolding with wonder.
Reaper watched from his mother’s skirt, holding onto her leg with wonder in his eyes, bawling up the soft cotton of her dress in his fist.
“Quiet down,” Dimiour gently whispered to her daughter nearby, Ink held onto her mother’s leg as well, using the heels of her naked feet to bounce in place like a little excited rabbit.
Synai stood at the centre of them, her brow furrowed in deep concentration. The tree goddess was still as ancient rock, her hands working diligently on the air in front of her. Branches sprouted from her brow, forming beautiful antlers on her white skull that reached up to the sky.
“What will happen mother?!” Ink squeaked quietly and Dimiour gently hushed her again, “patience my baby, patience”
Reaper looked over as well, his empty eyes sparkling with quiet excitement and curiosity.
The wind picked up around them, filled with Synai's raw magic and her intent. The smell of apple blossoms filled the air and from the ground in front of the primordial goddess, three small figures slowly formed, first as small sprouts and into tree stumps twisting their branches and roots into small bodies.
One of them had six golden wings, just like Reaper’s, it made his soul swell with curiosity even more, his own feathers trembling.
The first of them raised their head. She had bright golden eyes, filled with curiosity as well and she tilted her head when looking at them all.
“Hello?” She murmured, looking back to Synai. Her voice was melodic, like a song carried by the wind.
The second, the one with golden wings, raised their head as well. “Hello?” They looked to their sister and the gods around. Their voice was more mellow, quiet and reserved.
At last, the third raised their head as well. His bones were black and his eyes a gentle teal like tranquil waters of a deep lake. “Hello?” His voice was meek and small, looking around like the other two.
Ink gasped, grabbing onto her mother's vest in her fists as she bounced excitedly, trying to calm herself to not scare the new gods. Reaper did much the same, holding his mother's skirt to avoid running up to them right away.
The three new gods stared at one another, curious of their siblings, tilting their head adorably confused and fascinated. Synai extended her hand to the first born, the golden little girl, “rise, my daughter,” she sweetly ordered, helping the little girl stand on her feet.
She was much like Ink when she was born, Reaper remembered well, but unlike her this new little creature was not an array of colors from red to violet, she was gold. From head to toe, her bones resembled the sheen of dew drops falling on healthy ears of wheat.
“Your name will be Dream, my oldest child,” Synai spoke, leaving her to take the first steps all on her own. The little girl, Dream, slowly placed one foot in front of the other flawlessly standing all on her own already and looking down at her feet with curiosity, feeling the plush grass under her metacarpals.
Ink squeaked again with excitement, having to be held back by her mother so that she wouldn't tackle the new goddess. Error was not impressed, the little boy had his arms folded over his torso, skeptical of the new additions to the family with his signature little pout.
Kata, his mother, stood high beside him, her solid stance resembling a mighty mountain. She too, looked on with stern eyes.
watched the tree goddess reach for the second creature, a little god with three pairs of gold, fluffy, wings. Reaper’s own feathers vibrated with excitement, but he remained in his mother’s skirt still.
The little god stodd next, their wings trembling with new life. “You, my second born, will be known as Sirius.” Synai gently helped them stand as well, just as she had done for the first goddess. They weren't as secure as their sister, needing their mother’s help for longer before they could even attempt the first step.
“Hi!” Dream chirped at them, helping them stand by taking their hands. “I am Dream!” She smiled bright and warm as a flame. Sirius smiled back uncertain and shy, “I..am Sirius.”
Reaper watched as Synai yet again returned to the last little god. He was so small, his bones black just like Error’s, with bright little lights sparkling in his cheeks. He grabbed his mother’s hand to rise as well, trembling like a little fawn, he stood on weak legs. “And you, my youngest son, will be Nightmare.”
The little boy took longer to take his first steps, encouraged by his siblings. “I am Dream, hi!” The little goddess introduced herself again, holding his hand to encourage him forward with them and away from their mother already.
Nightmare held onto his mother’s skirt a little longer, looking at his siblings with wonder. “I am..Nightmare?” He said, his voice small and meek like gentle rain.
Their personalities were so clear after just a few moments of being born, so distinct even in a set of three. They had the same eyes, Reaper noted, the very same bright and intelligent eyes as their mother.
As the eldest of them, Reaper stepped up first to reach the new additions to the family.
The new gods looked at him with bright eyes, a connection between them snapping into place in a mere instant. They knew, he was like them, the very same.
“Hello,” he greeted cautiously, Error and Ink right behind him. Error tried to not show his curiosity, but he was just as interested and fascinated with the new gods, staring at them with his three eyes laser-focused on them.
Nightmare, the smallest of them, hid behind the other two and it was Dream who stood taller to greet them. “Hello,” she said back to him, her head raised high and hands on her hips.
The primordial goddesses chuckled between themselves at the adorable interaction. Synai had to cover her mouth so that her little snort could not be heard and interrupt the little meeting.
“I am Ink!” The small goddess couldn't contain her excitement any longer and she jumped in front of Reaper to reach Synai’s new daughter. Dream tilted her head, and while her two brothers hid behind her, she simply smiled at the goddess, unafraid. “I am Dream,” she said once again proudly, puffing her chest out.
She had just been born, and yet she was already taller than Ink by a few centimeters. The smaller goddess beamed, taking her hands with joy. “Do you want to see the forest?! The lake nearby is so pretty at this time of day!”
Dream tilted her head with curiosity, oblivious to the meaning of ‘lake’ yet.
“You look funny,” Error finally spoke, circling her to assist her, uninterested in the other two gods for now. “You sure you came out right?”
The new goddess scoffed, “of course I did!” She crossed her arms in front of her, looking at him offended.
Error smirked, “can you run then!?” He poked her shoulder, “tag! You’re it!” He yelled, sprinting away and out of the trees. Dream tilted her head, curious in the sudden change of his demeanor, the small goddess likely ready to start her first fight.
“You need to chase us now!” Ink explained, already running after him to escape the new playmate.
Dream giggled, “wait for me!” She ran after them, figuring out her steps slowly before she could use her new legs to properly run.
“Sister wait-!” Sirius murmured, holding their younger kin behind themselves. Reaper smiled, trying to reassure the other two. “I am Reaper,” he introduced, placing a hand on his chest.
He was older than them by a handful of moons, he was the eldest of them after all. He had been born first, Error following soon after very few moons later. “Don't be scared,” he reassured the new beings.
Nightmare peaked his head from behind his sibling, looking at the eldest god with the biggest eyes. They were big and blue like pools of water at night, sparkling gently and curious even if apprehensive.
“I am..” he said again, “I am just like you.”
Sirius looked at him better and his eyes sparkled when they noticed his wings, gasping softly. “You-” their own feathers vibrated.
“Yeah!” Reaper smiled, showing off his wings to them. “see?! I told you I'm like you!”
The new baby gods stared in awe at him showing off his golden wing span, they were still small, the size of a teenage falcon, but impressive compared to the baby wings on Sirius’ back.
“So cool!” Sirius chirped, their baby wings moving in tandem with him.
Nightmare, the littlest of them, watched them both with intelligent interest, keeping a safe distance behind his brother but still fascinated by the older deity. Synai stepped forward, gently caressing his head to reassure him. “Why don't you three reach the others?” She smiled down at them, “they are sure to have reached the lake by now.” Nightmare looked at her in awe, mesmerized by his mother and the grown of branches that formed her horns.
“I can take you,” Reaper offered, extending his hand to them.
Sirius looked at their younger kin, waiting for him to decide on what to do.
