Chapter 15
The next day Camie sat in the living room, talking to Inasa on the phone.
“Our next combined training is Wednesday right?” Camie asked as she yawned.
“Yes, you tired?”
“Hm? Oh, I just didn’t have a good night’s sleep, that’s all,” Camie answered vaguely.
“Uh, Camie, I actually have something to speak to you about.”
“Okay, shoot.”
“No, in person,” Inasa’s voice lowered and took on a serious tone.
“You’re not planning on confessing to me, are you?” Camie joked, trying to lighten the mood.
“No!” Inasa all but yelled, causing Camie to move the phone a little away from her ear. “It is urgent though.”
“We can go out for lunch at the mall and talk then.” Inasa suggested after Camie had finished laughing at his reaction.
“Sounds good. I’ll meet you at one?”
“Yes, see you then. Let’s meet up at the East entrance and then decide where to go then.”
The two hang up and Camie lay down on the couch for five minutes as she stared at the ceiling.
Well I have nothing better to do so I might as well start getting ready. I’ll get yelled at if I loiter around in my pajamas all day.
Camie slowly got up from the couch and walked upstairs. After a quick shower, she looked at her clothes before settling on wearing skinny jeans and a plain shirt. She pulled on her sneakers, ran her brush through her hair and headed back to the living room, only to be met by her mother.
“Are you going out today?”
“Yes,” Camie answered as she picked up her phone that she had left downstairs. She had a message from Inasa asking if she would like a lift.
“Where to?”
“The mall to meet up with Inasa.”
“Do you want a lift?”
“Hm?” Camie looked up from the message she was sending Inasa, “No, it’s okay. I’ll walk.”
“Are you sure?” her mother asked, nervous for her daughter’s safety.
Camie nodded, “Don’t worry, I’ll be back in three or four hours.”
She headed to the door and walked out.
Camie had purposefully left an hour earlier so that she could take a slow walk to the mall. In Camie’s opinion the weather was perfect. The sun shone down on her but not too harshly and there was a slight breeze in the air. The walk was very enjoyable and Camie managed to get to the mall with plenty of time to spare. She purchased an ice-cream at one of the shops outside the main mall before making her way to the East entrance. She sat on a bench near the entrance to wait for Inasa.
A few minutes later she saw the car pull into a parking spot a few feet away. Inasa climbed out with a scowl on his face. As he stepped away from the car, his driver leaned out the window and called him back. The two seemed to exchange a few words before Inasa stormed over. Camie was taken aback; Inasa was normally in a good mood after speaking to his driver.
“What was that about?” Camie asked as Inasa approached her.
He looked back at the still parked car before shrugging, “It’s nothing, don’t worry about it.”
Well that’s a lie, might as well let him cool down a bit before bringing it up again.
The two entered the mall and found a place to eat at. They ordered their food and it arrived at their table fairly quickly.
“So...” Camie started, while twirling one of her French fries between her fingers. “What did you want to speak to me about?”
“Oh, um...one of the instructors spoke to me the other day.”
“And?” Camie urged him to continue.
“They’d like me to bridge the gap between myself and Todoroki. Apparently sucking up to the guy isn’t good enough.” Inasa rolled his eyes.
“What did they suggest you do?”
“Meet up with him, outside of training,” Inasa said before scowling again. “I’m going to have to ask him so that it seems as if I’m making an effort. You got his number right? Could you give it to me?”
Camie nodded, “Sure thing, let me read it out for you.”
Just as Camie finished reading the number out, she received a notification from Toga.
‘Are you free to meet up today?’
‘Yes, I’m out having lunch at the moment, we can meet afterwards?’
‘Great, I was thinking of karaoke. I’ll send you the address.’
Camie and Inasa finished their meals while making small talk. After they were done, Inasa suggested watching a movie.
“Um, I’ve already made plans for later, sorry.” Camie gave him an apologetic look.
“No problem,” Inasa brushed it off and the two headed outside.
Camie was reminded of Inasa’s earlier attitude when she saw the car parked in the exact spot it was in earlier.
“What happened with your driver?” Camie asked.
Inasa whipped around to look at her, “What do you mean?”
“You seemed upset with him earlier.”
“It’s nothing, don’t worry about it,” Inasa said.
“Okay...” Camie trailed off for a second. “Just remember I am here to talk whenever you need me.”
“It would be...” Inasa mumbled, his voice getting softer as the sentence finished.
“What was that?”
“I said that it would be great if you applied that logic both ways!” Inasa snapped.
“What do you mean?”
Inasa sighed, “Camie, you don’t tell me anything about why you’re sleeping in class and rushing off home. Why should I be expected to tell you everything about me?”
“Well, we’re friends aren’t we?”
“Are we? Then why don’t you confide in me?”
“I...I have my reasons,” Camie stated softly.
“I do too, so stop bugging me so much,” Inasa said before starting to walk off.
“Inasa...” Camie called out after him.
“Forget it Camie,” He called over his shoulder without looking back.
Camie watched as he got in the car, said something to his driver and sped off, leaving her feeling terrible.
