Chapter 10

“Go home and get some rest,” their teacher advised. “Tomorrow you have your hero license provisional training so you must head straight there. Camie, it will be your first time attending so take it easy and remember everything you’ve learnt during our prep lessons. Inasa, don’t forget to work on building bridges with that Todoroki boy; we don’t want another incident in the future. Please just remember to get the work you miss tomorrow and catch it up in your own time.”

Both Camie and Inasa nodded vigorously before excusing themselves and leaving the room.

“You fought the second year’s trainer?” Inasa said as soon as they exited the room. His eyes were wide and disbelief flashed across his face, “And you won?”

Camie faked a hurt expression, “Why do you seem so surprised?”

“No, I didn’t mean it like that.”

Camie smiled and let out a giggle, “I know you didn’t and in regards to defeating him; I’m more than sure that he was holding back.”

“Oh,” a comfortable silence fell upon the both of them as they continued through the school and out the gate.

“Well, my ride’s here,” Inasa pointed over his shoulder towards the car that was parked on the curb. “Are you sure you don’t want a lift?”

“Yes I’m sure, I prefer to walk and don’t worry, I’ll be fine. See you tomorrow at training.” Camie reassured him.

“Bright and early,” Inasa added with finger guns.

Camie groaned, “Don’t remind me.”

The two said goodbye to each other and went their separate ways.

“Are you sure you have everything you need dear?” Camie’s mother called as Camie opened the front door to leave the next morning.

“Yes mom,” Camie called out and left before her mother could stop her again.

Geez that was the third time she asked that. She’s acting as if it’s my first day at kindergarten all over again. She wasn’t like this when I had to go to the school after been hospitalized either.

Camie headed down the road, the opposite way from which she normally took to school. At the end of the road she spotted a familiar car. She waved to the occupants as she walked over.

“You do know that you didn’t have to pick me up Inasa?” she asked as she got into the car.

The boy smiled as the driver pulled off, “It’s not a problem at all, it was on the way to the gymnasium.”

“Inasa, I know for a fact that you don’t live nearby at all and go out of your way to fetch me or walk with me each day. I honestly don’t know who is worse; you or my mother?”

Inasa had the nerve to chuckle as she reprimanded him, “We’re just looking out for you Camie.”

“Hmm,” she hummed in response and changed the topic, “How has the license training been so far?”

“Good for the most part.”

“What do you mean ‘for the most part’?”

“Let’s just say it would be a whole lot better if a certain person wasn’t there.”

“You two still aren’t getting along?” Camie tilted her head as she spoke.

“If that was the problem I wouldn’t have an issue but no. The problem is that I have to suck up to his ‘royal highness’ so that everyone will get off my back about it.” Inasa made air quotations with his fingers as he spoke. “Not everyone gets along. The sooner Gang Orca realises that, the better.”

Camie burst out laughing at the end of his rant, majority of her laughter stemmed from the nickname Inasa had given the son of Endeavor.

“It can’t be that bad,” Camie raised an eyebrow after she had wiped away a droplet that had collected under her tear duct.

Inasa looked at her as if she had just grown a second head, “Not that bad!” He all but screeched, “You just wait and see how ‘not-that-bad’ it is for me.”

He spoke so fast that Camie thought she would get dizzy from trying to keep up with what he said.

“We’re here,” The driver interrupted their conversation, sparing Camie from answering.

“Let’s get going,” Inasa directed at Camie before getting out and thanking his driver.

Luck was not with the two as the first people Inasa and Camie bumped into were the boys from U.A high. Camie heard Inasa grit his teeth before he went to greet the emotionless boy. Camie held in her laugher as she watched her friend interact with the two.

Wow he really is laying it on thick. No wonder he hates it so much but I suppose this is the best way to ensure that there aren’t any doubts about them getting along. I suppose I should go help him out a bit and give him a break. The best way to do that would be going up to introduce myself but that won’t do much. If I flirt with one of them though, that may divert everyone’s attention slightly longer. Now which one should I pick? The blond? Nope definitely not. The Todoroki boy it is then.

Camie skipped over and spoke to Todoroki, successfully giving Inasa a chance to calm down.

Soon after interacting with the U.A boys and some of the other students, everyone was assembled together in the gymnasium. Gang Orca arrived and split Camie, Inasa, Bakugo and Todoroki from the rest of the group.

A separate task, what are they going to make us do?

Camie looked at the others but apparently this hadn’t happened before because all three boys looked as confused as she felt. A minute later a flood of children came pouring in just after their task was explained.

The first to speak was the blond.

“Oh shit.”

Well shit indeed. Nothing is working, kids are too darn temperamental. Then again, so is that blond and that doesn’t help our situation at all. My quirk interested them for a split second but now we’ve entered a full out battle? How did this even come about? We need something to interest them longer; something that would leave them awed, but what?

Camie’s question was answered when the teenagers managed to use their quirks together to create a structure for the children to slide down. After the children were effectively dealt with, Gang Orca congratulated the four and they then joined the others in training for their licenses for the rest of the day.

“Nothing to it,” Inasa said as they left the gymnasium later that day.

They stood near the U.A students and watched the exchange between Endeavor and his son. Inasa’s driver was stuck in traffic and wouldn’t be there for awhile. Inasa also refused to let Camie leave and take the subway, insisting that this was the most efficient decision for her.

Inasa pulled a face as he watched the Todoroki’s leave together; Camie noticed this and used the opportunity to tease the boy, “You seemed to be getting along well with Shoto today.”

The boy next to her immediately scowled, “No, but thanks for your help earlier today. I didn’t have the instructors on my case today about my attitude towards him. It was honestly a first.”

“Don’t mention it.”

“Actually, speaking of you helping me, why do you put on such an act around other people?”

“Act?” Camie asked.

“Well, you’re not as ditsy as you want people to believe. You’re always pretending to be stupid when you’re actually pretty smart.” Inasa rambled on, trying to explain himself.

Camie was paying attention at first but immediately drowned out everything the boy was saying. Something down the street had caught her eye; to be exact a hairstyle had caught her eye. Blonde hair styled up in two buns weaved its way further away from Camie. Reacting as fast as she could, Camie put up her hand to stop Inasa as he continued speaking.

“Wait right here, I’ll be back,” Without any further explanation, Camie ran after the girl that was even further away, leaving behind a very confused Inasa.

Camie kept her eye on the girl that was weaving her way through the small crowd of people that were on their way home after work. She increased her speed and shoved her way through the very same crowd in order to catch up.

How dare you?! After all this time; weeks, no months, of no contact. After nights of tears, after I promised myself I’d move on and forget about you. After I pushed myself to my limits during training to keep thoughts of you at bay. How dare you? What right do you have to suddenly unearth all my feelings for you with a single glimpse; Toga?!

She reached out, grabbed Toga by the hand and pulled her fairly easily into an alley to ensure they wouldn’t get in the way. At first Toga tensed up but relaxed again when she noticed the person who was leading her.

“Where have you been?” Camie asked once they were far enough from the street.

“What?” Toga asked.

“Where have...”

“Not that, I heard you the first time.” Toga snapped.

“Then?” Camie questioned, expecting and answer.

Toga’s features hardened, “Are you crazy?”

“Uh,” It was Camie’s turn for confusion.

“I approached you with an ulterior motive, betrayed your trust, drugged you, impersonated you and then left you in a hotel room alone and unconscious. Yet you still want to know why I haven’t sought you out and what, pretend nothing happened?”

Camie stood in silence after Toga finished her rant. Toga took a deep breath in, she looked like she had something else to say but she changed her mind and turned to go. She was stopped when Camie grabbed her hand a second time.

“I’m more upset about the fact that you haven’t contacted me especially after showing that kind of expression but you had a reason for all the other stuff right?”

Toga sighed and turned to face Camie again.

“It was for your family,” Camie stated.

“You’re going to overlook everything just because I had a reason? Do you know how messed up that is?”

“Yes!” Camie screamed out in frustration, “I do but what am I supposed to do when you’re all I think about? Even if I’ve managed to stop thoughts of you haunting me during the day that doesn’t mean I’m able to stop the dreams at night.” Camie then moved forward and placed her hands on the wall either side of Toga’s head successfully ensuring she had the girl’s full attention. “So I would appreciate it if you don’t disappear on me like that again.”

“Toga!” A voice called the blonde from a fair distance away, causing the two girls to jump slightly.

“Move your hands,” Toga urged.

“Then exchange numbers with me.”

“Don’t you get it? If they round that corner and see you they will kill you. We don’t have time.”

“Give me your phone and then I’ll make sure they won’t see me, but only if you give me your phone.” Camie refused to yield.

Toga thrust out her phone and Camie put her number in Toga’s contacts with one hand while the other remained on the wall, keeping the blonde in place. Camie handed the phone back and leaned in to whisper in Toga’s ear.

“Message me.” With that Camie stepped back and used her quirk to shield herself, concealing her from the two people who just entered the alley.

“Toga, what are you doing here?” Dabi asked impatiently.

“Followed a kitty,” Toga smiled sweetly at him before mocking a frown, “He got away though.”

Dabi scoffed before turning around, “Come on, this is the last time I make a detour for you.”

As he walked off, Twice turned to Toga and whispered, “Did you manage to see her again?”

Toga quickly glanced at the spot that held the seemingly invisible Camie, “You could say that.”
