The first time they met it had been 300 years before the first war between the shinigami and the quincy. They were still kids in the eyes of those around them even if they seemed much older. Ukitake Jushiro had been the youngest but the one who kept them calm and in place despite being one of the most dangerous of the three. Kyoraku Shunsui had been the second oldest and known since young as a charmer young man with an amazing mind despite his laziness. Lastly was him, Hana, a young man who appeared from nowhere but had a heart of gold and smile that could light up your world despite the dangerous feeling around him. They didn't know everything about each other but they had been close until the war started and Hana disappeared leaving a letter behind which was never opened by the two best friends.
Hana had been a quincy who lived for too long in a world without any happiness until he met the two shinigami that brought happiness and love to his heart despite knowing they would have to fight one day. When Yhwach announced the beginning of the war Hana's heart was broken but he couldn't do anything since he was simply one of the king of the quincy's pawns. Fortunately Hana only worked as the healer so he saved both allies and enemies since he couldn't understand the reason behind this war. At the end of the war Hana gave a seal to Yamamoto before using his own body to protect the innocents being that between them were his two friends who never knew of his death.
Yamamoto was surprised when a young quincy gave him a way to seal his king but even more when he sacrificed himself to save as many shinigami and quincy he could. He was the only one to mourn the young man and kept his image in his mind because he sacrificed himself despite knowing no one would thank him or consider him a hero. Years passed since the end of the war and Yamamoto never saw the young man's spirit but wished to be able to meet him again one day.
Ukitake and Kyoraku had almost forgotten their friend but whenever they saw the seventh seat of the 4th division they would always remember him but neither knew why. It hurt them to see the sweet young man be pushed by everyone, even members of his division, because he showed so much love to those around him despite how despised he was by everyone. He truly showed being like Hana when he decided to help Rukia despite it could end with him dying too. Hanataro, they found later his name, could be described as having a diamond heart because he never let himself go down despite the insults, the bruises, the disgust and everything else that was shown to him and how they wished to be able to help him but they saw in Unohana's face that no matter what she did everything ended going back to what it was before.
Yamada Hanataro had two secrets he promised not telling until the right moment. No one ever knew it until the second war with the quincy. His heart broke once more when he felt the shadows moving so he talked to the soutaicho who could only give him a sad look but let him do whatever he wanted. Hanataro wrote a letter and left it in his bed in the day the war started. While most fought Hanataro looked for the two people he knew he would need to save and without them knowing he left a bit of his blood in their skin.
Nothing seemed to be going right in the war especially after Yamamoto died. No one knew what to do so Hanataro found Ichigo and gave him a earring and told him to use it when he felt the moment was right which confused the boy but he nodded before the healer left and forever in Ichigo's mind would be the sad look in Hanataro's eyes as if he knew he wouldn't survive this and that was his goodbye.
Sadly the moment of the truth arrived when the some members of the 4th division were attacked by some quincy when they were healing some shinigami. Hanataro was the first to give a step to the front and before anyone could to anything he created an arc of thin air like the quincy and killed those who attacked the group
"Yukihime make sure everyone goes to a safe location and that those needing to be healed are taken there. I will take care of any attacker" ordered Hanataro to the second in command of his team who nodded because she and the members of his team knew that he would always be there for him "Say to everyone that I live them and hope to see them again" he said before the group left leaving the girl confused but she couldn't do anything since she had a job to do
Once the group left Hanataro killed the quincy who tried to get past him despite the tears running down his face showing how much this war hurt him like the first had. The moment Hisagomaru whispered it was time he released his zanpakuto.
"I'm sorry Hisa for not giving you much more time for us to be together but I can't let them die after I saved them that time especially Juu and Shun who are the only people I truly loved in my life" whispered Hanataro before taking a deep breath and looking in front of him were he saw a black shadow go up in the sky "Take my broken love and transform it into a diamond heart that shall die the moment those I love are saved" said Hanataro ignoring the way it hurt to do this again and not being able to say goodbye in person to everyone "BANKAI!" he shouted and gave a last smile while a forcefield was created around the ones he loved and wanted to save
Shunsui couldn't believe that the war had finally ended and especially that Juushiro and Unohana had survived despite how they should have died because of how hurt they were. When Ichigo had came back with his friends and Aizen everyone had felt relief that they could be in peace again. There had been death on both sides but Shunsui was happy that not everyone had died so the ones who were in a better condition were ordered to look for the injured and those who had died.
"Hey do any of you know were Hanataro is?" asked Ichigo when he arrived were they were with Ishida
"I'm sorry but we don't know. Why do you ask?" was Unohana's response
"I wanted to thank him since without this earring we wouldn't have won" said Ichigo showing the earring that he was using that was familiar to the two best friends
"Where did he get that earring?" asked Juushiro softly
"I wanted to know that too. Yhwach had talked that once there was a quincy with healing powers and that he was the only quincy who used an earring to manifest his powers" said Ishida and both friends looked surprised to each other but before anyone could say something more they hear someone shout for Unohana
"UNOHANA-TAICHO" shouted a girl with with light brown hair and black eyes who had tears running down her face
"What's wrong, Yukihime?" Unohana asked worried
"H-he is…..H-hanataro I-is…." the girl couldn't talk
"What's wrong with Hanataro?" asked Ichigo getting the feeling he knew that answer but didn't want it to be true
"H-he I-isn't h-he a-anymore" Yukohime whispered "H-hana sacrificed himself f-for u-us" she said shocking everyone
"No…." whispered Unohana who saw Hanataro as her own kid
"Don't cry" they heard someone say from behind and when they looked they saw a young woman with long black hair, a dark colored wedding kimono and black and red eyes
"Who are you?" asked Ishida serious since no one knew the woman
"I can't be here for much time but I wanted my master's last words to be heard by you" the woman said softly with a sad look
"You are Hanataro's zanpakuto spirit" said Juushiro and the woman nodded her head
"My master once was known as Hana the Quincy with healing powers. He never knew happiness or love until he met two young men who showed him both. He never had the time to confess because the first war started when he finally found he loved them and he didn't want to tell them since he didn't know if he would lose them in the war or not" Hisa had a soft sad smile while everyone looked shocked at her "Since he was a healer he saved people from both sides before giving Soutaicho the way to seal Yhwach and sacrificing himself to save people from both sides. Hana always had a good heart and it hurts me to see he was never able to be with those he loves" she said murmuring the last phrase
"D-did they die?" asked Yukihime softly
"No. They survived but he never could tell them who he was so he changed is name to Yamada Hanataro and started a new life here in Soul Society with Soutaichi's help" she answered "I chose him as my wielder because of how strong his heart was since only a person with a diamond heart would be able to use my abilities at their maximum" there were tears falling down the spirit's face
"How did Kurotsuchi never notice him?" asked Ishida knowing what he had done to all the other quincy
"Oh that man did and he hurt my wielder but Hana wasn't weak so he freed himself an joined his dream division where he would be protect because of who his captain was" she said with anger in her eyes but rapidly calmed down "He took everything everyone sent to him in stride because he could never hate someone and he silently watched the two he loved seeing them break and rebuild themselves wanting to be there for them but not being able to" everyone thought that Hanataro had really been a strong person despite what many said about him "When he felt the shadows he had gone to the Soutaicho knowing another war was coming and that he would once again sacrifice himself for those he loved" somehow Shunsui and Juushiro felt that Hanataro actually had been their Hana and their hearts were slowly crumbling hearing these because if it had been their Hana they knew they were the man the zanpakuto was talking about and how they wished to go back in time and love their Hana like he deserved since even if they kept him outside their mind he had been the person they loved the most "He wrote a letter for those two man" she unnoticeable for everyone but Juushiro and Shunsui looked at them whose eyes became blank "And decided to give his earring to Ichigo who he felt was half-quincy" Ichigo touched the earing with sad eyes "And made sure to mark everyone he cherished with a bit of his blood" she said and closed her eyes because it hurt to force herself to tell these and also to be here when her other half wasn't anymore
"Why?" asked Unohana calmly but it wa noticeable the tears that wanted to set lose but she wouldn't
"Because my bankai is trading his life for those he marked" Hisa said with sad eyes while everyone made shocked noises "He chose you above himself and he wants you to live and if it is necessary do it for him" the zanpakuto spirit was starting to disappear so she quickly said her master's last words to them "His last words were that he loved you all and hoped to see you again in a time a war wouldn't happen and he could be with you for many more years. He also wished for you all to be happy and follow your dreams so he knows that he didn't sacrifice one more time for no reason at all" she said with a sad smile "Please remember these he will always love you" she added before disappearing completely
The group was in complete silence before they all broke down which called everyone's attention to them who looked confused since yes they had lost some people but the worst were the Soutaicho and his vice-captain but as they didn't know what happened they guided each to a room were they could cry and sleep in peace because it seemed that was what they needed.
A week after the war Shunsui and Juushiro had Hanataro's letter for them in their hands. They read it with tears in their eyes but with a soft sad smile remembering that no matter the name he would always be their sweet little sassy Hana as they could see by the letter. One day they would find him again and this time they wouldn't let him go no matter what because Hana was theirs and even if he had a diamond heart they would be there to protect him this time.
