An Unfortunate Tattoo
At first, Uraraka was all for soulmates. She was ecstatic about it. The whole thing about your soulmate's first words they say to you after your 16th birthday being etched into your skin.. was.. worrisome, to say the least, but she never was really concerned about it. Cause what were the chances she would get something bad? She would have a decent soulmate, right?
...
Wrong. So very wrong.. She thought, staring at the new words, permanently marked, wrapping around her left forearm.
'I'll fucking kill you, put me down!'
Wow. How romantic.. She chided her future suitor in her head. Could be worse..She tried to convince herself, but that just failed miserably. What was worse than your soulmate wanting to kill you upon meeting you?
When she finally went to school the Monday after the winter break, everyone was asking about what her soulmates words were. She waved it off saying it was nothing special or that she didn't want to talk about it. Ochako technically wasn't totally lying. She was clearly uncomfortable with it, but it definitely was special.
Many of the other people in her class had gotten their phrases already (she was one of the youngest in class), with the inclusion of some people who just didn't have any, or refused to show theirs.
Not having a phrase wasn't rare, actually it was very common. About 30 percent of people didn't get anything, which simply meant they had to find their own partner, without the additional help, or that only their partner got words. What was rare was when people without words suddenly had them appear when their soulmate talked to them (Less than 2% of people have had it happen to them).
Mineta, Bakugou, Aoyama, and Ojiro never got any. Others in her class, that had got their words, promptly formed relationships based on them, (Mina x Kaminari, Jirou x Tokoyami) or simply hadn't seemed to meet their match yet (Momo, Satou, and Iida). Kirishima, Sero, and Midoriya (surprisingly), refused to show their words. Maybe it was because their soulmate wasn't 16 yet and wanted to tell when their birthday happened (a common thing people did out of respect) or they wanted to forge a new path, but either way it had totally gotten her hopes up that it might be Deku.
So when the first thing he said to her was: "How was your break?" Which was a sweet thought, it only made her groan in frustration. "It was fine.." She muttered, but it wasn't really. The first part with Christmas, and having her birthday was great, but as soon as she got her words, all she did was worry. Her mind was filled with things like: Why do they hate me before meeting me? Why was she carrying them in the first place? What if her soulmate was a villain? They did say they wanted to kill her after all.
"S-sorry I didn't mean to make you upset" Midoriya nervously smiled, trying to bring up her mood, and successfully breaking her out of her thoughts. "No, I should be the one apologizing.. I just am a little stressed to get back into assignments and stuff" She lied with a tight smile. There was no use worrying someone else over the words on her arm, she just knew that when she found her soulmate she would give them hell for it.
