24. The Old Therebefore
episode eight , a murder of woes
ENID SINCLAIR never thought she would be friends with Josephine Monroe, Josephine was hot then cold, moody and overall, someone most people didn't hang out with. She couldn't scrape up any information about a Josephine Monroe until she arrived at Nevermore as an enigma.
She disappeared for just under a month, and turned up right as things got sour, a problem was starting but this time, she didn't run. She didn't hide, she faced it; as she should have done long ago.
"Thing!" Josephine's brown hair swept over her face and was held up with a lily of the valley claw clip. "What happened, Wednesday? In danger? I'm going, I'm going." Josephine picked up Thing and placed him on her shoulder. "Go get Enid, Ajax, Bianca, Yoko and Divana, tell them to gather and evacuate the school. Shits about to get nasty." Thing launched off Josephine's shoulder and out to wherever Enid was meeting.
Josephine and an itching feeling about the crack stone crypt. She started running through the forest and she felt the memories of her childhood hit here.
London, England.
June 15th, 2015.
"YOUR brother is such a big hero, he save our whole community..." her mother used to say. "He's such a good boy, hunny you need to be more like him."
"I'm trying really hard! I'll be a lawyer," she would plead but was ignored.
"That's not good enough, you have to save someone to be in our family. You'll understand when you love someone." Her mother scoffed at the thought of her daughter working. There was a knock at the door and her mother smiled. "Darling, your husband-to-be is here!"
Jericho, Vermont.
November 7th, 2022.
Josephine continued to run and she threw the doors open, and there was Wednesday right up beautifully, even if she was injured; Josephine couldn't help be believe that she was the most beautiful girl. "Ah, Miss Monroe, I'm glad for you to finally join us. That disappearing act of yours is getting old." It was Miss Thronhill who turned around and smiled. "Your finacée is here waiting for you."
"He's not my fiancée, not anymore." Josephine circled around Miss Thornhill, like a lioness about to pounce. She felt shackled clipped onto her wrist and Josephine turned around, it was Neville.
"Tell that to him." Josephine hit him in the crotch with the back of her foot, and didn't say anything. Josephine felt her way to crack the Merle and the chain links broke. Josephine raised an eyebrow.
"And what are you going to do to save her?" Thornhill taunted as Josephine pulled out her hair stick and pointed it at Wednesday, her wounds were healed in a moment. "Oh I see how it is, using you witch magic to heal you loving girlfriend."
"I don't let myself get pushed around anymore." Josephine made her way up to Thornhill, who grabbed her by her broken shackles and tied her up, slamming her to the ground. Josephine's knees were bruised. She couldn't sigh, but there was one thing that she could still do. Josephine coughed and looked up at Thornhill.
"What quick quips do you have now that you can't say anything?" Thornhill to Josephine's hair stick and snapped it in half. She smiled and Josephine laughed.
She laughed. Aloud, not her noiseless chuckles she had always done before. Josephine smiled. She opened her mouth before closing it again and smirked. "You're headed for heaven. The sweet old hereafter and I've got one foot in the door." Her hands glowed and ropes singed off, Josephine stood up and raised her head.
"But before I can fly up, I've loose ends to tie up. Right here, in the old therebefore. I'll be along when I've finished my song." Josephine took a step back and she heard some glass shatter.
"Stop singing!" Thornhill screamed as she and Neville tried to attack her. Thornhill attacked from the front snd Neville from the back. Josephine didn't breathe, but she kept going.
"When I've shut down the band, when I've played out my hand, when I've paid all my debts, when I have no regrets. Right here in the old therebefore when nothing is left anymore." Josephine did her best to fight them off. She swung at Thornhill and hit Neville back with her leg again.
"I'll catch you up: when I've emptied my cup, when I've worn out my friends, when I've burned out both ends, when I've cried all my tears, when I've conquered my fears." Tyler appeared after both of her adversaries had been knocked down. Tyler grabbed her again, and daughter her writs. She fought with him, tooth and nail.
"Right here, in the old therebefore when nothing is left anymore. I'll bring the news: hen I've danced off my shoes, when my body's closed down, when my boat's run aground when I've tallied the score. And I'm flat on the floor, right here, in the old therebefore. When nothing is left anymore." Josephine hit him with the back of her head, squared in the nose. She heard the rest of the glass shatter and the body parts fell.
Josephine stood tall and she tied up all three of her 'victims'. "When I'm pure like a dove, when I've learned how to love. Right here, in the old therebefore." Josephine grabbed Wednesday and placed her hands over the shackles holding her back. "When nothing is left anymore." Josephine muttered with a smile and a sad eye.
"I didn't know you could sing." Wednesday chided as Josephine laughed. Wednesday was doomed from that moment on. She would move heaven and earth to hear Josephine's laugh again.
Josephine grabbed Wednesday and pulled her up. "We have to get them away from here, back to the school where I told Enid to have Sheriff Glapin waiting at the school." Josephine ran her hands over where Wednesday's wound used to be, fake blood seeped out and made it seem real. "Limp."
Josephine grabbed Thornhill and Tyler, she threw one of the spare ropes at Neville and started dragging the three knocked out villains. That's when they saw it, Werewolf Enid gazing like a puppy ready to help. "Enid!" Enid me eyes went wide before she started panting. "Grab one of these guys." Enid joyfully picked up Miss Thornhill (or Laurel Gates) with her teeth and trotted back to the school. An Ambulance had Headmistress Weems in a body bag and Sheriff Gladlin was waiting.
"Miss Monroe, no more blue hair I see." Their sheriff joked as he saw his sone tied up and Wednesday bloodied and limping.
"You should have locked up your son last year. He attacked me and my girlfriend. He was responsable for the murders and he is an overall shit head." Josephine tossed him to his father. "He's unconscious." Josephine then tossed over Neville and she saw the horror on Nurse Fortescue's face.
"Here's your perpetrators." Josephine saw the sheriff nods and he gave Josephine her cash. "You owe me that."
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Your uncle Sirius is outside with his husband." Sheriff pointed at the door and Josephine grabbed Wednesday's hand, running and hugging them all close.
"Flora."
"Siri."
Wednesday watched and realized that she got herself in deeper shit than she realized. And she thought back to their first conversation that eluded to more.
"So, you're leaving? There's a safe house, out west in Wyoming." Josephine didn't explain. Wednesday's train would be stopping just at the airport, so she could book her flight to (as of now) Wyoming.
"Why are you doing this for me?" Wednesday watched as Josephine smirked and grabbed her things, today was the last night she as staying the Enid and Wednesday.
Josephine's brown-gold eyes melt the silvery black ones that encapsulated Wednesday's souls and a fire almost was set into flame within Wednesday. Wednesday felt like small spiders were eating at her from the inside.
"Beacuse I know what it is like to run."
Josephine grabbed Wednesday's arm and kissed the top of her forehead. "I love you so."
"I love you too." Wednesday smiled as they hugged close. But Josephine knew this wasn't the end, not for her. Not for Wednesday. And especially for not Nevermore.
So this is it. The grand Finale.
