The Old Therebefore
Summary
JOSEPHINE MONROE was not like all the other girls that Wednesday had met, and not because she didn't enjoy typically girly things or always wanted attention; but because she didn't speak. Josephine never spoke a word, and that naturally made Wednesday curious. As the two girls embark on a rather dangerous journey, they grow close. What if they grow closer than mutual friends?

14. The Dance

episode four , woe what a night

WEDNESDAY ADDAMS never thought she could love anyone. She had told her own mother that she could never love someone, get married or be a housewife. But with Josephine? She could be anything that Josie wanted: A friend, a lover or a protecter. Whatever Josephine would need, Wednesday would make it happen.

So there Wednesday stood, in front of Uriah's Heap staring at dress. The double braided hair sighed before going inside, seeing the elderly woman inside the store. The ding sound filled her ears as the elderly woman perked up and came dashing over. "What can I get you?" The woman was eager to cell to someone who didn't bully her establishment around.

"The dress in the window, how much is it?" Wednesday's demand as the woman smiled and handed it the dress. The woman then merely shrugged before placing the dress into the box. "How much, is it?"

"There's a discount, it's free for you." The woman handed over the box and waved Wednesday over to take the dress. Wednesday, still weary— took the box and left with a greatful nod. Unfortunately, on her way back to Josephine she ran into Tyler.

"So, uh, it seems you're going to the Rave'n." Tyler's words were breathy and loud. His breath was gross and way too close to Wednesday's face, which made her furrow her eyebrows in displeasure.

"Yes." Wednesday started to walk away but Tyler followed her like a lost puppy, a puppy that Wednesday wanted to take a shotgun to. He would deserve it for drugging her soulmate.

Josephine sat in the mail room, with a box and silver tag with a small card that not only said 'To Josephine Monroe. From Uncle Drosselmayer' but also a word of congratulations for finding her soulmate. Josephine smiled as she looked at short dress and the matching accessories with a certain someone.

🦇

The days leading up to the Rave'n were anxious ones. Yoko kept pestering Josephine about her date and the dress she was wearing. Enid was pushing Wednesday to go to the dance— she didn't know what Josephine Monroe and Wednesday Addams were 'together'. "While most plants reward their pollinators with sweet nectar, many carnivorous varieties turn to sexual trickery or deception." But some things that stayed the same were Miss Thornhill's strangeness. Her class never seemed to have a dull moment be with Bianca and Wednesday at each other's throats for second place.

However both girls were assigned to be seated next to Xavier Thorpe the local 'heart throb' or 'tortured artist'. He was under the impression that Josephine was infatuated with him. "I, um, tweaked my back fencing." Xavier's comment didn't weigh any importance in Josephine's mind.

"The orchid produces a pheromone that mimics a female insect, luring the males in. Now, once the plant is pollinated, what do the male insects get in exchange?" Miss Thornhill's class seemed to be a never ending easy-A for Josephine— she didn't bother to raise her hand to answer the question.

"Nada. Just like all the guys at the Rave'N." Bianca's laugh became true once she saw the silent chuckle that Josephine was breathing out behind her. Bianca was one of Josephine's best friend, both of them were as close as sisters.

"Okay, okay. I know you're all excited about Saturday, which is why I haven't assigned any homework." Miss Thornhill's words were quickly overcrowded by the loud cheers from everyone in the class except for Wednesday. "But I do still need volunteers for the decorating committee. Anyone interested, come and see me up here." Josephine stood up and grabbed her bag to go sign up for the decorating committee. "Josephine, don't worry I already put you down." In the back, Josephine could hear Wednesday and Xavier talking.

"You're not gonna volunteer?" Xavier's dry cackle loudly echoed, his voice made bother Josephine and Wednesday cringe quietly. Wednesday watched as he spoke to her, she silently thought about what could this guy be on to have so much deceptive optimism. "Aren't you pumped about disco balls and spiked punch? There's even a DJ. MC Blood Suckaz."

"I'd rather go through Enid's closet." Wednesday deadpanned to Xavier, who was feeling increasingly awkward.

"Or you could invite someone and have a little fun." Thorpe raised his eyebrows a few times as Wednesday turned away from him to look at Josephine.

"I already have." Wednesday's voice almost exceeded the flat, monotone sound that was her normal groove. Josephine just had an effect on her.

🦇

Wednesday stood at the bottom of the stairs waiting for Josephine, who insisted on getting ready in her own dorm. She stood waiting staring at the architecture on the ceiling. It was quite phenomenal. Thats when Wednesday heard clicking down the stairs. Josephine was walking down the stairs, and as she descended down the stairs Wednesday swore this was the beginning of the end. There Josephine stood, her boobs perky and perfect, her legs long and perfectly moving in sync, her makeup perfectly replicated period 1960s make up, her hair perfectly flowing down to her shoulders. Josephine's feet perfectly sculpted for her shoes she was wearing; the black bow matching Wednesday in a way, and her earrings were perfectly goth to the raven haired girl's liking. Josephine was like a walking goddess, like Satat.

"Josephine." Wednesday breathed and she wore she was going to be six feet under. "You look like a goddess, like a poison killing me slowly." Josephine took the last comment as compliment.

"You look handsome, cheri." Josephine gave Wednesday the lightest peck on the cheek, nothing like their first. However, the slightest shade of pink graced Wednesday's morbid face. "You're blushing." Josephine pointed out with silent laughter.

"Speak of that to anyone and none will be able to stop finding your body." Wednesday glared but Josephine just gaged her off with a smile. They both could hear Miss Thornhill's voice from the main foyer. Miss Thornhill's voice echoed all the way from the quad. "I suppose we should go now." Wednesday's voice wasn't as monotone as normal, she sounded almost (ever so slightly) lively,

"Yes, we should go." Josephine smiled as Wednesday took her arm and guided her to the quad where they saw Miss Thornhill. Josephine and the older woman had spent all of Josephine's free period decorating since none of the other volunteers wanted to work. The other volunteers just sat on their phones and doom scrolled on Instagram. "Eugene, don't you look spiffy! Here with anyone in particular?" Josephine signed with a smile as Eugene came over in an off-white dress shirt and some khaki pants.

"Nah, I'm going by myself. I figured I could help DJ Mc Blood Suckaz. Maybe Jupiter showed up." Eugene shrugged and Josephine smiled even wider as she gave him an aggressive thumbs up.

"Calm down Cara mia." Wednesday practically purred, which caught Josephine off guard. "We best get going." Wednesday watched as Eugene walked in to chill with the DJ. Wednesday then took Josephine's arm once more, leaning her into the dance hall. The song 'the beginning' by Magdalena Bay as the two walked in. Wednesday internally smiled as every one of Josephine's friends stared at their entrance. The raven haired girl lead Josephine to the drinks section where she grabbed Josephine and herself a 'yeti-tini'.

"Wednesday Addams what a surprise! I see you've brought Josephine with you as a date, you're both lucky girls." Miss Thornhill preppy attitude shone down on Wednesday's prickly one.

Wednesday gave a quick "Miss Thornhill." As she caught the eye of Tyler Gladpin, he always knows when to show up doesn't he. Wednesday quickly took Josephine's arm and lead her over to the drink table where Wednesday stayed at the drinks.

"Oh my god, I love the look!" Enid came running over as they got to the bar, Josephine waved politely and smiled through gritted teeth. Enid Sinclair has a way of getting on Josephine's nerves. "Interesting choice of date though." Enid's belief that Josephine murdered Rowan hasn't entirely left but her slightly condescending comments didn't leave one bit. Enid was getting slightly better however, so Josephine will give her that.

"I could say the same." Wednesday stared at her date, the mayor's son. Lucas Walker was standing there looking around like a lost puppy.

"It's not what it looks like." Enid explained quickly to both girls as they all continued to stare at Lucas. He was checking his watch, and Josephine thought that was awful suspicious that a normie was here and waiting for something.

"Most people who say 'it's not what it looks like' normally are guilty." Josephine continued to stare suspiciously at Lucas, as Enid turned to look at Josephine with a confused expression.

"Good, because that pilgrim has two strikes in my book." Wednesday ignored Josephine comment knowing that the brunnette was most likely right.

"Lucas is trying to make his ex jealous, I'm trying to make Ajax jealous. It's a win-win." Enid explained in a hushed tone as Mayor Walker's son came over and raised his hands in peace.

"Wednesday, I come in peace." Lucas spoke with a smile as Josephine continued to glare at him.

"It doesn't seem that way." Josephine signed 'under her breath' as she turned on her heel and started to pour herself some of the 'non-alcoholic' drink. It definitely had tequila in it by now, most likely it was Yoko's fault. Josephine then poured Wednesday some water in a glass because Josephine had an inkling feeling that Wednesday wasn't the alcohol type.

"That's a shame, I thought my pocket mace." Wednesday's bored tone caught Lucas by surprise as Enid just stared at Wednesday with a 'what the fuck' kind of look. "The medieval kind." Wednesday clarified, perhaps that would remove Enid's mortified look. It didn't, Enid then gave a grimace. Lucas, Enid and Wednesday just stood there looking at each other.

"Why did you bring her?" Xavier asked as Josephine turned around causing her to jump ever so slightly. Josephine just stared at Xavier. "You don't know what trouble she's going to bring." Xavier's harsh expression made Josephine cringe. She then got bothered by his droning on and on about how pathetic little Tyler ruined his life. Josephine dumped the drinks onto Xavier to get him to shut up since he still hadn't learned sign even though he claims he is in love with her.

"That was beautiful, Cara mia." Wednesday came up being Josephine who watched Xavier walked away embarrassed with himself. Enid and Lucas had left the scene to talk about Pro-Hockey and Kung Fu movies; leaving Wednesday to help Josephine with their little problem named 'Xavier'. "May I have this dance?" Wednesday asked as she took Josephine's hand and lead them to the dance floor.

When the sun goes down and the moon comes up
I turn into a teenage goo goo muck.

Wednesday moved her shoulders left to right before launching her arms up and twisting them together before they fell to her side again. She then walked away and started doing some kind of hammer move towards Josephine

Yeah, I cruise through the city
And I roam the streets
Looking for something that is, nice to eat

Wednesday threw her arms above her head and moved her body back and forth to the music. Josephine through she looked like a dancing elephant. Wednesday then brought bother her arms up like she was about to fold them around herself and started shuffling from side to side. Wednesday then moved down and around to behind Josephine (who had been swaying side to side with an amused smile).

You better duck, when I show up
The goo goo muck

Wednesday tapped Josephine's shoulder causing her to spin around to face the goth girl. In the back, Weems was watching with a sort of melancholy smile. Josephine and Wednesday reminded her so much of her old friends. Mortisha and Gomez, Jamison and Lillian.

I'm the night headhunter
Looking for some head

Wednesday moved away from the swaying Josephine and started moving back and forth like a chicken. Josephine knew this was a complaining of a bunch of goth moves. She then waved her arms in front of her like ribbons for the school's color guard during an American football game. Wednesday spun around and leaned back. She then shoot her head up and moved her arms in a 'thriller' music video way.

With a way-out body
Underneath that head

Wednesday put her head back down and contoured to do some thriller-like moves with her arms, staring straight into Josephine's soul.

Yeah, I'll get you, baby
With a little luck

Wednesday then served with her arms over to Josephine— who could take her eyes off Wednesday by the way. Wednesday then started to 'play the xylophone' with a twist in her hips.

'Cause I'm a teenage tiger
And a goo goo muck

We'd say bent down aggressively before shooting up againt and dancing like she was doing a combination of folklorico and a salsa. And just on cue like every other of Wednesday's moves.

You better duck
When I show up

She ducked, before spinning her skirt up ever so slightly and moving her left shoulder around. Wednesday moved her shoulders around as she bent her head from one side to another. Wednesday started to do a 'clawing motion' at Josephine, who was feeling very happy with the mood Wednesday was it.

Yeah, the city is a jungle
And I'm a beast
I'm want the most
But I'll take the least
'Cause I'm a goo goo muck tiger
And a teenage beast.

Everyone ended up getting into the dance floor with the same vibe as Wednesday. Never bothering to jump up and down in a circle. Wednesday 'rowed a boat' as she started into Josephine's eyes. Her head tilted up since Josephine was almost six feet tall.

You better duck when I show up
The goo goo muck

Wednesday then finished off her debacle with an electrical shock type of move. Wednesday than slowly moved her hips in a circular motion before stopping in front to Josephine. The latter then smirked as another song came on, one she was familiar with.

I was walking real fast
I was too scared to run

Josephine spun around Wednesday, her arms spinning around as well. She then moved her hips up and down as she walked away.

Past this lonesome graveyard
Where the highway meets the sun
Well this old graveyard's been around since the civil war
I had a funny feeling I've been there before

Josephine spun around again before doing her signature 'plucking spiderwebs away' awhile waving her arms around. Josephine moved her arms around to the left like she was doing hula.

I heard a voice, it was talkin' real slow
She said, 'it's time to make a choice, is it year of us it no?'
I said 'okay, do what you want to do'
Then she took me to a world
A world I never knew

Josephine moved around the dance floor with a twirling motion as she waved her arms around like a circular cumulonimbus cloud.

We danced so close
We were teenage ghosts
Doing that graveyard waltz
(Graveyard waltz)

Josephine then took Wednesday's hand a spun her around before she didn't a small little waltz before doing her own twirl. Then the music stopped suddenly and everything was eerily quiet for a singular moment. It was only Wednesday and Josephine for a minute.

Josephine smiled before heading off to get drinks and Wednesday headed out to the quad. Josephine was approached by Tyler Glapin. "You're a horrible person, Josephine. You keep giving me these signs, and it's life you like me then you don't." The moment Tyler's mouth opened Josephine should have known  that nothing good would come out.

"I'm sorry you feel that way Tyler. But we aren't together anymore. Frankly, I need you to leave me alone." Josephine placed the glasses down, one had water in it and the other had some yeti-tini in it. "There are no signs and the only reason I out up with you and what you did is for Wednesday. She isn't unsettled by you and she doesn't care about your actions." Josephine went to grab the drinks and walk away but Tyler grabbed her arm, and Josephine felt him ever so slightly graze her boob with his fingers.

"Let go of her, Tyler." Wednesday appeared behind Tyler to see a terrified looking Josephine, and that pisses Wednesday off. "Let Josephine go." But Tyler refused to move, so she hit him. Tyler was bleeding from the nose and scurried off like a squirrel.

And to end the night off, the fire alarm and sprinklers went off. Scaring everyone, but they weren't covered in water. They were covered in blood. Pigs blood spluttered everywhere and everyone started screaming. It was chaos, screaming and people running out the building covered in blood. And Lucas Walker? He was nowhere to be seen.

Wednesday leaned up to Josephine and pulled her down to force foot one height and kissed her blood-soaked lips. Their lips were like they were forged together and made to match. Josephine wrapped her arms around Wednesday's waist. When they finally stopped making out, both their heart's were racing.

"It wasn't even real pigs blood." Wednesday let out a disappointed glare as she took Josephine's hand and walked the two of them back to Wednesday and Enid's dorm Ophelia hall.
