•Summary: There is a tradition in the Rengoku family, which dates back to the Sengoku era. From the moment he holds his Nichirin Blade for the first time, the heir of the Breath of Flames must win the favor of the domestic deity to accompany him in the battle against the demons as his Sword Spirit. There is only one way to achieve this: in the family sanctuary there is a natural pool that gushing iridescent aquatic fire, the Flame Scarlet. According to the legend, the Flame Scarlet sleeps for an hour at night, and if someone seeks to drink, he will have to shake its water surface a little with his hand in order to "wake up" the Flame Scarlet and drink it, otherwise if he scares it, he is in danger either struck by the element of fire or poisoned. (Based on a Greek Urban Legend.)

Follows the timeline, though I have added the spirit part (as accurately as I could from the reference material). I tried to follow the retelling of Rengoku's mission as closely as I could, but take everything with a grain of salt: I didn't actually read it and had to take quick notes, and I probably changed some events slightly.
