Chapter 3
She was fucked. She just got home after getting another fancy dinner with her best friends. At this point she should just date them because she’s done more romantic things with them then with any other guy literally ever. But she rests her case.
“Meow”
She sighs and sits down on the couch grabbing her beloved cat and cuddling her on the couch.
She was exhausted, and as she was cuddling Brownie she could feel the 3 glasses of wine catching up to her eyes and mind. Napping for the next 8 hours sounded absolutely divine.
‘Ring, ring, ring!’
She jerks awake and grabs the home phone that rested on her side table still half asleep.
Groggily she answers the phone ‘Hello?’
“Althea we need you now.”
Oh fuck it was her boss from St. Mungos.
“What?! How much time do I have?”
“Absolutely zero, come over now it’s an emergency. Aurors were badly injured during a mission and one of the families is requesting only the best to treat their son.”
“What but I’m not even ready I-”
“NOW Althea!” and the phone hangs up.
She sighs and rubs her temples. She was absolutely fucked.
As she runs through the hospital putting on her medical coat over her dress that she had on for dinner, and tying her hair back she tries to sober up. She still had her heels on and makeup from the dinner, and she’s praying no one will notice that she’s had 3 glasses of wine. Which was definitely against the rules but apparently she was badly needed.
She bursts into the room where she was called. “I’m here! Give me the symptoms now.”
She hadn’t looked up yet, still looking at the clipboard she was holding and writing her name down on the sheet and quickly glancing at the symptoms so she could diagnose.
“I’m no bloody expert, but is that supposed to be your uniform?”
She looks up finally at the voice and gets ready to snap back, not having any patience for any smartass remarks, but she pauses.
Draco Malfoy was laying on the hospital bed with a smirk on his face, but not completely reaching his eyes from what she was guessing, the pain he was in.
Pain.
Oh fuck, she almost completely forgot that she was a doctor and actually needed to treat him and not gawk at him.
She approaches him. “Where are the other doctors or nurses?” she asks.
“No clue.” He shrugs, wincing slightly at the movement.
She looks over his body finally noticing the blood soaking through his robes and his lower arm going in a direction it shouldn’t be going in.
She quickly gets to work ripping his shirt open and assessing the wounds.
Oh gods. There was a deep large gash from his chest down to his stomach, blood gushing out and yellow bruising quickly darkening around the whole thing.
She quickly works grabbing a numbing potion from her bag and any other potion she needs.
“I’m going to numb your wound, heal it then move on to your arm. Is that okay?” She asks without looking up at him.
“Gods Thea I don’t give a damn what you do just please hurry it fucking hurts.”
She tries to ignore how he called her Thea. Alright then.
Quickly she grabs his face. “Open your mouth.”
He scans her face quickly and sees no trace of humor, and quickly opens his mouth.
She pours the potion in his mouth and lets go of his face gently and sets the vile down.
“Ugh what the fuck was that?” It tasted absolutely horrendous.
“Numbing potion. Now please shut up so I can focus.”
As she said those words he can feel the pain going away and he sighs in relief.
She grabs her wand and starts cleaning and closing the wound. She wraps his whole upper body, and moves on to his arm. Pointing her wand and quickly snapping his arm back to place and firmly wrapping it.
As she works he studies her. She moves quite fast and he looks at her face noticing the dark circles under her eyes. He scans her attire. It seems like she came from somewhere fancy, maybe for dinner. She looked pretty.
Dinner with who? He wonders.
“So again is that supposed to be your uniform?” He asks, noticing the way she looks up at him quickly and he sees her fight the urge to roll her eyes.
He thought she was going to ignore him but she answered. “I came from a fancy dinner and got paged. I didn’t have any time to change.”
So she was at dinner.
“Mmm what’d you have for dinner?”
“Why on Earth would you want to know that Draco?” She doesn’t look up at him this time, and his mind blurs from the way she said his name. No one else calls him by his first name, other than his parents.
“Just curious. Why? Am I not allowed to be curious?” he says, raising his eyebrow to taunt her.
She scoffs but he swears he saw a small smile on her face.
“If you must know, Kayla wanted to try this new French restaurant that opened near her.”
“Was it good?” He asks. Trying to hide the relief on his face by looking at his now wrapped arm.
“Delicious. Alright I’m done.”
His gaze snaps back to her face, seeing her eyes barely keeping themselves open as she removes her gloves and washes her hands in the sink that was in the room.
“That was fast, are you sure you healed me correctly?” He says with amusement laced in his voice.
“Well let me know in a couple days if your arm completely falls off.” She says with no amusement still washing her hands, not looking up.
His heart drops. “What, are you serious?”
She makes eye contact with him through the mirror and turns around, a smirk on her face.
“Like I said let me know”
He hears the amusement in her voice this time and he chuckles dryly.
“You’re going to need to stay here for the rest of the week so the nurses can keep an eye on your wounds, and by the end of the week if everything is good you’ll be fine to go back to work. I gave you a fast healing potion assuming you don’t want to be here long.”
“If you feel any discomfort which is completely normal, let one of the nurses know to call me and I’ll send one of my potions to your bedside.”
She packs her things and takes off her coat reminiscing about the sleep she’s finally going to get, and she finally looks at him.
“Do you have any questions for me before I call your parents in?”
The whole time she was talking he was trying to think of any questions or concerns he could state so that she could possibly stay a little longer…for his healing purposes and concerns of course.
He stares blankly at her. “No I don’t.”
“Alright then goodbye.” and she turns quickly and goes out the door.
He lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
She’s walking out towards the lobby ready to leave when she sees Draco’s parents waiting.
She approaches them. “Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy I’m Althea Bautista. I just healed your son and he’s ready to see you guys.” She says politely.
She wasn’t expecting the hug Mrs. Malfoy suddenly gave her. “Oh we know who you are, thank you Althea. I was worried sick, but heard you were healing my son and I knew he was going to be just fine.”
Still in shock she looks towards Mr. Malfoy who gives her a slight nod. “Yes thank you.”
Mrs. Malfoy finally releases her and looks her in the eye.
“You must come over for dinner one night so we can thank you properly.”
“Oh that’s not needed Mrs. Malfoy, I was only doing my job-”
“Nonsense I will send you a letter, we would love to have you accompany us. I’m sure Draco would like it as well.” Mrs. Malfoy says with a small smile on her face.
It would be rude to decline.
So she gives a small smile back “I would be delighted, I’ll be waiting for your letter.”
Mrs. Malfoy’s smile grew larger.
“Wonderful, well I’ll let you get going now.”
“Of course thank you, Draco’s in room 777.” And she nodded at her and gracefully walked past her, she caught Lucius Malfoy’s eyes once again and he only looked at her and nodded before joining his wife.
She sighs and briskly walks outside where she finally apparates home.
