Good Enough

“Marinette! Please, talk to me!” Adrien pleaded to the bluenette as she walked to her new school, not even sparing him a glance.

”I have nothing to say to you, Adrien,” she said curtly.

”But our friends really do miss you!” He exclaimed. “They want to apologize!

She just shrugged. “Tough. They had their chance when I told them Lila was lying, but they chose to believe her.”

Having enough, Adrien ran over to Marinette and whirled her around by her shoulder so they were face to face, but instead of tears of joy like he had been hoping, it was a look of pure hatred.

”I’m not going back,” she said, trying to get away, but Adrien wasn’t having that.

”Please,” he begged. “Just for a few minutes. Listen to them, Mari. Things can go back to the way they were.”

That seemed to make something snap inside of her. ’Go back to the things they were… When I was taken advantage of by people I once considered friends.’

“… Goodbye, Adrien.” And then she left, leaving the blonde feeling dejected.

Plagg poked his head out from Adrien’s pocket. “Kid… Just-“ He sighed. “Just get back to school. Lunch break is almost over.” And he went back in without saying another word.

With a sigh, Adrien headed back to DuPont to go face his classmates and tell them what Marinette said- That she isn’t coming back. He reached into his other pocket, pulling out his phone and earbuds, just needing to drown everything out.

He played a random song, and it seemed like the universe was taunting him because of how the melody sounded like how he was feeling right now.

It seems the more we talk

The less I have to say

It almost felt like Marinette was singing this part to him. Whenever they talked about taking the high road when it came to Lila, he’d always be the one leading the conversations, and she’d just nod or give one worded answers

Let's put our differences aside

I wanted to make you proud
But I just got in your way
I found a place that I can hide

Now everything is changing

But I still feel the same
Are we running out of time

Everyone seemed so happy when Lila came, but Marinette just got sadder and sadder each day.

What do I have to do
To try to make you see
That this is who I am
And it's all that I can be

Striving for justice, protective of her friends, hates liars… That’s Marinette.

I tried to find myself
Looking inside your eyes
You were all that I wanted to be

There must be something else
Behind all the lies
That you wanted me to believe

Adrien pleaded for her to play along and go with Lila’s lies, maybe see she wasn’t all that bad… Kind of dumb now that he thinks about it. Marinette couldn’t just pretend everything was okay. That wasn’t her.

Now everyone is saying
That I should find a way
To leave it all behind

He heard that Marinette’s parents brought up the idea of her changing schools, and she said yes without as second thought.

What do I have to do
To try and make you see
That this is who I am
And it's all that I can be

And no amount of ‘taking the high road’ can stop the bluenette from being who she really is.

What do I have to do

To try to make you see
Trying to be like you

A spineless pretty face is all he’ll ever be.

Isn't good enough for me

And I won't let you go
And I won't let you down
I won't give you up
Don't you give up on me now

He was at the school now. His friends were probably expecting to see Marinette with him… Well, she doesn’t want to see them, and they’ll just have to life with it. They all do.

What do I have to do
To try and make you see
That this is who I am
And this is all that I can be

What do I have to do

To try to make you see
Trying to be like you
Wasn't good enough for me…
