Fjord looked up from his book. He was stretched out on his bed when Molly came in. It was dark in the apartment, but not too dark to see that his friend had something on his mind. So, he put the book to the side and propped himself up on his elbow. Before the words formed on his lips, Molly dropped onto the bed next to him and curled into his side. The older man paused for a moment then pulled him in and blindly reached for his book. Molly found it and handed it over and resumed his place on Fjord’s shoulder. After a long pause, he looked over at the mess of lilac hair.
“Do you want to talk about it.”
“No.”
He sighed and went back to the book as he pointedly ignored the growing wet spot on his shoulder. He wouldn’t mention it.

BigBadWolf Did I do something wrong?
GreenTea Not at all. I cannot tell you much, but Molly has lost a lot of people and has felt forgotten.
GreenTea And he has never been overly healthy with how he handled it. He just needs a moment to himself.

It was not until two in the morning that Molly finally stirred again. He had rolled from Fjord to let him use the bathroom, but otherwise stayed in the bed. Fjord had been awake the whole time, scrolling silently on his phone. Finally, he sighed out a shaky breath.
“What happens next year when we all graduate?” Molly’s voice sounded so soft and small that Fjord felt a sharp pang of worry and guilt in his chest. So, he rolled over and found the man looking back at him.
“Then we renew the lease on the apartment and hope to get real jobs.”
“What if Caleb wants to move in. Or the girls move out?”
“Then we will deal with it then.” Fjord watched him for a moment. “Has Darrow forgotten me after three years?”
“No?”
“Or Bryce forgetting Darrow after eight?”
“No…”
“We’re not going anywhere. We may grow apart, but that doesn’t mean we will ever stop caring.”
“I’m scared to be a real adult Fjord. I can’t do this without a real schedule or rules. I’m a disaster. I…”
“Hey. None of us are. But we have each other. And that us has grown. But no matter what, you’ll always be my best friend, yeah?”
Molly shuddered and nodded. Fjord smiled into the darkness and pulled his friend back close to him. When he first met the boy, he had wondered why the man was so tactile in his affection. He thought it was a need to get attention. Fjord had since learned that it was how he knew people were really there for him. And so, he held him close that night. He knew Caleb would understand better than anyone.
