The two of them were together, on this small piece of island. After watching Mara dissapear, after watching her best friends dissapear, Adora couldn't handle this feeling anymore. She was hugging herself, trying to find some miracle confort. Maybe She-ra could do something. Darn it, the sword. Tears, anger, this feeling of being useless again.
Half fucked-up Catra was watching her by afar, right behing her shoulder. Mixed feelings waved. "Adora.." she whispered, tasting the name slipped her lips. Everything was going to be destroyed, for ever. She saw the damages she was doing, and it hit her.
She found her voice to scream this time; "Adora!" Her feet were one with the ground though, she couldn't move. Her body couldn't integrate what her mind was trying to formulate. Sad and angry blue eyes landed on her, her ears falling right away. How-?
Why ? Why were they in this position, In this situation ? It didn't felt right, for neither of them.
As if light were being seen for the first time at the end of the eternal tunnel. The same feeling as when they were kids, when small wind's waves caressed their skin at their secret layout on top of the roof while bursting into laughing. "I'm..- Look, I'm sorry okay ?" Salted liquid caressing Catra's only cheek. Her yellow eye turned dead, as her voice cracked; "Adora, I'm sorry. For everything."
She never really wanted to harm Adora, it was all.. Shadow Weaver's plan, it was all.. this stupid war's fault. But she never wanted to fight Adora. In fact, Adora was always there for her, when time wasn't easy. Those big blue eyes woke her memories up, laughing started to echo as kid Adora stole her focus. The Fright Zone's corridors, dark green walls, running at full speed to not be catched. But she was catched, she was awlays catched by Adora in the end; "Catra, I'm always gonna be there for you" Warmth, her heart realizing it now, beating way too fast.
"How do we stop it Adora ?" Adora was afraid, as if she was lost in the sky. Nothing was making any sense. If one were about to stop it, they would be lost for ever. Trapped. She wouldn't let that happen. She-ra-, as realization happened in her mind, her throat was crushing itself. Burned her as a punition. She tried to grab something on the floor to help her focus on what to say, in vein. "No, no, I'm the one who said that I was gonna protect you Catra. I won't-"
"Adora please, if we wait any longer, it might be too late." It was now a begging Catra walking slowly as her body weighed more than usual. "I promised that to you too, Adora. So please." Her eyes were desperate, kneeling in front of Adora, who's voice were slowly returning to its volume while pleading. "No, no no no no no no." She was trying to get up. Her body was betraying her, she hated this feeling, useless. Being useless.
Adora looked up, at this gigantic lightning tornado. The sword. Catra understood right away. And got up. "Adora, I wish I could have done it differently. But I can't now." Her hand were now resting on the blonde's cheek, quickly followed by Adora's left hand too. "But I can fix the future" "What- I don't understand Catra, What-? What are you saying ?" Tears couldn't been held anymore, Adora's heart was going to explode anytime soon. Catra's thumb slowly caressed Adora's cheek before pulling out.
Adora stood up, her vision becaming blurry as her hand immediately grabbed Catra's wrist. The realization, the consequences. "No, no no no You can't do this Catra."
Thunder and lightning were destroying bit by bit the small land. "I'm still here." whispering words, trembling hands grabbing Adora's cheek. "You care about me." Catra was still here because she needed her, she needed to feel Catra's presence by her side while living harsh situations. Catra had always been there; everytime a new day began in the horde, she was there, curled up at the end of their bed. Adora's eyes widened, mouth opened, but too weak to say anything. Too weak to think, too weak to act, to save the world, to save.. her. "I care about you too, a lot." Because Adora always wanted to be the strong one, but truthfully was always stronger when Catra was there.
"I love you." Mixed with a small laugh and sadness, their eyes stoled stars at this very moment. Glowing more than the galaxies altogether.
The most beautiful yet saddest smile the First One had ever seen. Her heart was beating way too fast, it could drop anytime. "I love you too." Was she allowed to feel happiness at this very moment ? Eternia was being destroyed. Her friends- everybody could be gone forever if they waited any further.
But Adora didn't care, she wouldn't let anything between her and Catra, even if the world was ending. Because.. as realization struke her; Catra was her world. Her lips crashed in a hurry, she could feel a flash of hurt in her lower one but she didn't care. Catra loved her, Catra-
A split of second to realized what was going on, before she hungrily responded to the call. Rhythm came as Adora put her hands on Catra's waist. An explosion of butterflies inside her stomach, a hurtful but blissing weight in her heart.
They both wanted this moment to never end, to last forever.
"I've always wanted you Adora" a little laugh escaped, she understood why she was so possessive back then, so protective. God she was so obvious the more she thought about it. " I just wish I knew it sooner." A last smile before seeing Catra's back walking further away from a petrified Adora. "I have to go now Adora. I have faith in you, I know you will do your best, I believe in you." This, didn't felt right. No, they weren't meant to end like that. "Catra!" cried Adora in a last attempt to-
A powerful light burst and a light single note rang slightly into her ears.
Then a sword.
Then-
"Adora!" This voice- Glimmer. She opens her eyes to see Hordak's sanctum. "No." She widens her eyes to close them when it hits her. "No, no no no." She screams, gravity crashing her into the ground. She wrapped her arms around her legs, which were glued to her chest. Her throat burned as a last attempt to open her eyes again, hopping her wish would come true. But no, no blue and yellow eyes in front of her. Looking at the ground, her vision too blurry and her mind too shocked. Whispering, in a mixed sight and laugh; "But I always cared about you, silly." Darkness surrounding herself, as the last thing she sees is Catra's face, as the last thing she hears is sounds of scream and fight fading away.
