Danganronpa - Academy of Hope
Summary
This world is full of „what ifs”. There is endless potential in what could have been… what if Hajime Hinata had never become Izuru Kamukura, if his talent enhancing procedure didn’t wipe his personality? What if Junko Enoshima had not become the Ultimate Despair, instead remaining as the Ultimate Fashionista? What if all the students were in the same grade in Hope’s Peak, including the participants of Killing School Semester? What would that world look like? Would it perhaps be filled with… hope?No overarching story, it's honestly a collection of loose scenarios in a Dangaronpa world where nothing bad happens, and everyone is just friends. Tagged ships, but not sure how much content devoted to them there will actually be. We'll see, I suppose.

Slight Mayhem at the Cafeteria

“Shuichi, I’m boooored!” the purple-haired boy whined, poking his classmate’s cheek.

“C’mon, Shuichi is not a TV, you can’t just expect entertainment from him… Jeez…” Mahiru sighed.

“It’s fine, I’m used to this.” Shuichi said. “He pesters me like that all the time, so I kinda don’t mind anymore.”

“I… see.” Mahiru said. “Well, if it’s okay with you…”

“Hey, Mahiru, isn’t Hiyoko kind of the same with you?” Maki asked.

“Huh? Oh, well… I guess?” Mahiru shrugged. “I don’t mind her either though.”

“I mean, she’s a bit worse though… I’ve never heard someone spit out insults like she does.” Kazuichi said.

“Clearly you haven’t seen Kokichi and Miu go at it, then…” Shuichi sighed.

“Hey, silence, degenerate! I bet Hiyoko is actually a nice girl!” Tenko shouted, pointing at Kazuichi.

“Nyeh, Tenko, calm down, you’re gonna cause a scene and then I’ll have to use magic to stop it, and it’ll be a pain…” Himiko said.

“Right… sorry…” Tenko calmed down a bit.

“I get where you’re coming from, Kazuichi, but… she’s not that bad, really.” Mahiru said. “She’s really good, deep down.”

Just then, the door to the cafeteria burst open, and in came running Mikan, Hiyoko and Ibuki.

“Come here you trashy skank!” Hiyoko yelled, running after the Ultimate Nurse.

“Forgive meeee, please!” Mikan whimpered, trying to escape from Hiyoko’s grasp.

“Hey, come on, Hiyoko, her telling you gummies for every meal aren’t the best diet is no reason to want to rip her hair out!” Ibuki tried to explain, chasing after the Ultimate Traditional Dancer.

“My, now this is an interesting scene… Shuichi, I don’t need entertainment anymore… for now, at least.” Kokichi said.

Then, two students from class 78 entered the cafeteria too.

“Huh? The hell’s going on?” Mondo asked.

“Ah! Mikan, Hiyoko, Ibuki, you know there’s no running in the hallways!” Taka shouted.

“That’s not even the hallway, dumbass…” Mondo said.

“That’s even worse!” Taka replied, and then joined in the chase.

“Now you’re running too…” Mondo sighed.

“Jeez, I feel like I’m gonna have to step in…” Mahiru sighed too.

“Need some help?” Maki offered.

“That’d be nice, Maki.” Mahiru nodded.

Together, they somehow managed to calm down everyone, and then Mahiru made Hiyoko apologize to Mikan for chasing her and a whole slew of insults, including, but not limited to “you have a face like a baboon’s asscheeks”.

“Mikan, are you alright?” Ibuki asked after the incident really finished for good.

“Y-yes, I think I am…” Mikan nodded. “Thank y-you.”

“No worries, you can always count on Ibuki Mioda!” the Ultimate Musician smiled and gave Mikan a big hug. “Though you should probably just avoid Hiyoko… Just to be safe.”

Then, a rather popular in the school trio from class 78 walked into the cafeteria.

“Everyone’s pretty agitated, did something happen?” Kyoko asked.

“Nothing worth paying attention to, I’d assume.” Byakuya said.

“This again? I’m pretty sure we already went over the ‘why people’s emotions matter’ thing at least a few times this week.” Makoto sighed.

“In excruciating detail too.” Byakuya nodded.

“Oh, Makoto, Kyoko, Byakuya… don’t worry, everything is under control!” Taka said.

“Yeah, no thanks to you, Mr. Class President.” Mahiru sighed.

“That’s not really surprising…” Bykauya blurted out.

“Byakuya…” Kyoko sighed.

“Sorry, I tried not saying it out loud. It did not work.” Byakuya shrugged.

“Anyway, nothing to worry about. Everything should be calm now.” Maki said.

“Oh, Byakuya… perfect, I need something from you.” Kokichi said, walking up to the Togami heir.

“Okay, I take that back, there is one thing to worry about.” Maki said, glaring at Kokichi.

“Oh, Maki… with that tone and your icy stare, one could think you don’t love me, but that’s not true, riiight?” Kokichi said with a big smile on his face.

“Don’t make me punch you.” Maki sighed.

“Enough clowning around, Oma.” Byakuya cut that exchange short. “What is it that you wanted?”

“Oh, well… I just thought… rich guys like you probably have libraries full of all sorts of publically unavailable documents, and whatnot, sort of like Hope’s Peak’s archive, right?” Kokichi said.

“I do have one, yes. And your point is?” Bykauya asked.

“Well, I was wondering if my evil organization ever appeared in any of the documents you have.” Kokichi said.

“Even if it did, I must not have cared enough to notice.” Byakuya sighed.

“Nee hee hee… I see, so we’re even under the Togami Corporation’s radar.” Kokichi laughed.

“I assure you, if I saw you as a real threat, I’d have run all the background checks on you by now.” Byakuya said.

“Knowing Byakuya, he’s probably dead-serious about that…” Makoto remarked.

“Aw, Byakuya… you wound me deep with your words. Oh well, that’s all I wanted, for now.” Kokichi said, and then returned to his seat right next to Shuichi.

“Man, he really bugs you often, huh?” Makoto said.

“Yes, even you aren’t nearly as annoying as he is.” Byakuya nodded.

“Talk about a back-handed compliment…” Mahiru sighed.

“Are you sure Kokichi isn’t dangerous?” Kyoko asked. “It seems to me he thrives on chaos.”

“No, he’s mostly just a nuisance.” Byakuya said. “There are way more troublesome people than him here… like that Ultimate Soldier from our class… or even Toko, for that matter.”

“Mukuro is actually a nice person, she just looks kinda dangerous…” Makoto said.

“I would not trust her so readily if I were you.” Byakuya said. “That sister of hers is an odd specimen too…”

“Junko’s also not that bad… not that I talked to her that much.” Makoto replied.

“I agree with Makoto, Mukuro is alright. We train together sometimes.” Maki nodded.

“Ah, since you both have, uh… deadly talents.” Mahiru said.

“Yeah, pretty much. It’s kind of weird, but we sort of connect through that. Strange how that works.” Maki said.

“Well, it’s quite natural that similar talents gravitate towards each other.” Shuichi said, entering the conversation. “I mean, me and Kyoko mostly get along thanks to that.”

“Yes, it is pretty nice to have common ground with someone.” Kyoko nodded.

“I don’t think that works with all talents though…” Makoto said, and just as he did…

“Ah, Makoto Naegi, how splendid to see you, a shining symbol of hope, on this wonderful day!” Nagito said, putting his hand on Makoto’s shoulder.

“Cut that out, Komaeda, you’re probably weirding him out…” Hajime sighed.

“No, it’s fine…” Makoto said, but most of the group could tell he wasn’t all that comfortable.

“For some reason, seeing Nagito all buddy-buddy with our Makoto is unsettling…” Byakuya mumbled.

“Jealousy, maybe?” Kyoko suggested.

“As if the heir to the Togami Corporation would let himself be jealous of anything…” Byakuya dismissed the idea.

“Anyway.” Maki said. “Shuichi, we should probably be going. Kaito and Kaede have probably already started training.”

“Kaede, maybe, but are you sure Kaito is that diligent?” Shuichi said.

“…fair point. Either way, let’s go. See you later, everyone.” Maki replied, and departed.

“Right. See you, guys.” Shuichi said, and also left.

“Shuichi, wait for meee!” Kokichi said, and also left the cafeteria.

“Boy, they sure hang out in one big group, huh?” Mahiru said. “Come to think of it, you three are also always together. Or at least, the two of you always hang out with Makoto.”

“Well, he keeps dragging me along, and he’s, all things considered, decently intelligent, so I don’t mind all that much.” Byakuya said.

“That’s… probably the nicest thing you said about me all week.” Makoto said.

“Your class has a group like that too, Mahiru.” Kyoko noticed… though it seems there’s one of them missing right now.

“Huh? You mean Hajime, Nagito and Chiaki?” Mahiru asked.

“What do you mean ‘missing’? Chiaki is right he…” Hajime said, but when he looked behind him, there was nobody.

“That’s a pain, seems she got lost on the way here…” Nagito said.

“I told her to pay attention to her surroundings and not to play games while she’s walking…” Hajime sighed. Then he grabbed Nagito by his hood. “Come on, we have to find her.”

Kyoko giggled a bit.

“These three sure get along too.” She said.

“Yeah. But I feel like… everyone here gets along on some level.” Makoto nodded.

“That’s true, between our three classes, it seems we’re all pretty good friends.” Mahiru said with a smile.

“Perhaps that’s just a silence before a storm though…” Byakuya said.

There was a moment of tense silence as everyone wondered what he could mean by that… and then, the door to the cafeteria burst open once more. This time, in came the Ultimate Fashionista herself, the most popular one in the school.

Right behind her was her sister, Mukuro.

Junko scanned the room with an icy stare, and then, when she found her target...

“Miu Iruma, you trashy bitch, how could you spread the rumor my boobs were fake!” Junko yelled, as she ran towards the table Keebo and Miu were sitting at.

“Well, they obviously are! Your gravity-defying meatsacks don’t fool anyone!” Miu replied.

“Oh, so that’s how it’s gonna be?! Then en garde, you slut!” Junko said, as she raised her fist.

“No, sis, don’t, I’m sure she didn’t mean that!” Mukuro said, trying to stop Junko.

“Oh brother…” Mahiru sighed. “Taka, Maki’s not here, so you’ll have to do. Help me settle these two down, will you?”

“Of course! Such behavior is not welcome in a school environment!” Taka nodded, and the two went up to Junko and Miu, trying to ease the situation.

“Well, Byakuya… I don’t know what you meant, but… I think petty catfights like this is the biggest storm we’re gonna have to face.” Kyoko said. “Not that I’m complaining.”

“It’s nice though.” Makoto smiled. “I mean, everything is just… so peaceful. And everything is going great, too. They even let Komaru skip a grade and get into the Reserve Department, free of any fees. Can you believe that?”

“Perhaps some of that luck of yours rubbed off on her?” Byakuya said. “You seem to have it in excess, unlike intelligence.”

“Ouch, that comment was not necessary at all…” Makoto said. “But it’s just… life is so great right now, it’s like it’s some… fantasy world.”

“Well, if reality is like a fantasy, that’s good, isn’t it?” Kyoko said. “We can just enjoy life to the fullest.”

“Yeah. I wouldn’t mind it if things stayed that way.” Makoto nodded.

“Well, they won’t if you fail next week’s exams and they boot you out of the school…” Byakuya said.

“Aw, man… you had to mention that and ruin the mood?” Makoto said.

“You were about to float away into fantasyland, I had to bring you down to Earth somehow…” Byakuya shrugged.

“Well, whatever. I’m sure everything will be alright.” Makoto smiled. “After all, this is a school filled with hope.”
