The Parental Disagreement (part 2)

“I promise you guys. This place has the best sticky buns.”

Alex was scrolling on his phone when he heard the familiar voice. He looked around and spotted the tall man with two teens following him.

“You never told us who told you about this place.” One of the boys pointed out.

The man paused with a small smile and looked at the teens “Just an old friend of mine.” he replied with sadness in his eyes.

Alex walked a bit closer to the group. “I know Mama and you fought years ago, but calling her an old friend sounds a bit cold,” Alex commented, unable to help himself and the group turned around to see him.

“Alex?” Clark asked, surprised and the blonde smiled, the same smile as his mother.

“Hi, uncle Clark.” Alex replied and accepted the handshake.

“Wow, you’ve grown so much since the last time I saw you,” Clark exclaimed before turning to his sons. “Oh, right. I don’t know if you remember but this is…”

“Jonathan and Jordan.” The blonde nodded with a smile. “Bit hard to forget with my family’s memory,” he added and lightly tapped the side of his head.

“Right.” Clark looked at the blonde with a small chuckle. “Guys this is your, this is your cousin Alex.”

“We have a cousin?” Jordan asked and earned an elbow in his ribs from his brother.

“Oh, cool.” Jonathan replied and shook Alex’s hand, Jordan doing the same.

“How come you are in National City? There isn’t any emergency… report.” Alex asked, glancing at his uncle.

“Oh, no.” the man chuckled. “The boys have a friendly football match with National High.”

“Yeah, I heard some schools finally accepted to play with our school. About time they stopped using the ‘they have alien players’ excuse.” The blonde said with an eye roll.

“Is it true?” Jonathan asked in a hushed manner. “Are there really aliens in your school?”

Alex laughed before realizing it was a real question. “Wait, are you serious?” he asked and looked at the confused boys. “Look around you.” he said and took a step to the side.

The twins looked at the other patrons in the establishment. That’s when they noticed the beings with different eyes, skin colour, skin texture and so on. “Wow.” Jonathan gasped.

Eliton. ” One of the employees called and Alex raised his hand and walked towards the bar where the employee placed his order.

“Sorry, I have to go back to school. We are trying to finish some backstage stuff for the play.” Alex said while picking up the drinks and a box of sticky buns.

“Are we going to play against you at the match?” Jordan asked, sizing him up. Compared to the twins, Alex was much taller and clearly stronger, but that never stopped Jordan before.

“Nah. Not my thing.” Alex replied with a smile. “But a friend of mine is on the team, so you might see me in the crowd,” he said before he headed to the exit.

“Okay.” Clark clapped his hands, getting his sons’ attention. “Let's get the sticky buns.” he added with a grin and turned around.

“How is he related to us?” Jonathan asked.

“Well,” Clark cleared his throat. He was not expecting to have this talk today. “He is technically your second cousin because his mother is my cousin.” He quickly replied before turning to the waitress, putting down an order for sticky buns.

“That was a good game, Clark.”

The tall man turned around with confusion at the stranger until he heard the heartbeat. “Kara?”

The brunette smiled. “Image inducer.” She pointed at herself casually. “Came to pick up Alex and he told me that you were in town.”

“I doubt you didn’t know I was in town before that.” Clark added.

Kara nodded. Over the past years, the two of them hadn't talked much, not unless there was a huge emergency. The last time they had talked was a few weeks ago, when Clark needed a break from Superman duties to mourn his mother's death.

“The boys know.” Clark said and looked at Kara’s surprised look. “They found my ship at the barn and Jordan-” he bit his lip.

“He has powers?” the shorter woman guessed.

Clark nodded.

“You know, we ordered a lot of food tonight. You and the boys are invited.” Kara added with a shrug and a small smile.

“Yeah, that sounds good.” he nodded. “Maybe it will be good for them to see how others with similar powers use them.” the man added.

“Good. Just a warning, Alex and I aren’t going back with a car.” She quipped with a grin.

“Oh!” The tall man exclaimed. “Okay, I will go find the boys and come find you.” Clark replied and Kara gave him a small nod before walking away, disappearing in the crowd.

Kara and Alex waited for 15 minutes in the dark alley for Clark and his sons. Kara almost left, thinking that Clark has once again chosen to keep his family away from hers and the truth.

“Sorry, we are late.” Clark announced as he rushed into the alley. “Boys, this is your aunt Kara.” he introduced when they came to a stop in front of her.

Kara waved at the two boys “No worries.” Kara replied while turning off her image inducer so she can turn into Superwoman. She spotted the boys' small amount of surprise as her features changed. “Are you ready to fly?”

“We can’t fly,” Jonathan stated.

“I can carry the boys,” Clark said while opening his button-up, revealing his suit.

Kara nodded and reached for her watch, Alex doing the same. Their suits quickly appeared over their clothes, with a mask materializing over Alex's face.

“You have a super-suit!?” Jordan uttered in shock, pointing at his cousin.

“Well, I’m not gonna fight crooks in my normal clothes,” Alex chuckled. “I had too many nightmares of me accidentally burning my clothes and standing butt naked in the middle of the street while trying to fight criminals.” He added with a dark expression making his mom shake her head with a smile.

“We should take off. Food is already delivered.” Kara added and took to the sky, Alex following her.

“Hold on to me.” Clark cautioned before he placed his arms around his boys and took to the sky, following his cousin.

They landed a few minutes later on the balcony of the Luthor-Danvers residence. Clark let the boys go and check them over before following Kara and Alex inside. “Take your shoes off, please.” Kara told them as they entered the penthouse.

“Wow.” Jonathan exclaimed as he looked around the room. A growling was heard and then a loud barking. Jordan and Jonathan took a step back from the growling dog but something falling from the ceiling caught their eyes.

“Was that a person!?” Jordan gasped.

“Alex, take Buddy to your room.” Kara said and the sixteen-year-old easily picked up the growling dog that melted in his embrace as he carried him away.

“What happened?” Dawn asked while sitting on the couch and rubbing her sleepy eyes.

“You were sleep-floating, again.” Lena said while entering the living room with the plates. She placed the plates on the table before walking towards her guests. “Clark.”

“Lena.” Clark greeted with a tight lip smile. “Thank you for letting us join you for dinner.” he replied while patting his sons on the back, mostly to get them out of the shock.

“Well, shall we?” Lena motioned to the table and the guests nodded. “HOPE, please inform Luna and the boys that food is ready, please.”

Yes, Mrs Luthor-Danvers” HOPE’s voice echoed in the room, surprising Clark’s sons even further.

Dawn stood from the couch and stretched, floating a bit. She stopped when she felt eyes on her and watched the two surprised boys.

“Oh, Dawn, these are your cousins Jordan and Jonathan. Boys, this is my youngest, Dawn.” Kara introduced.

Dawn landed on the floor with a smile and waved at the boys, before walking to the table.

The guests sat down, Alex joining them shortly with a tired Luna who sat next to her sister.

“I guess twins run in the family, huh?” Jonathan said with a chuckle, not noticing Kara glancing at his father. “How old are you guys?” he added while pointing at the girls.

“We are twelve.”  Dawn replied with a smile.

“Oh cool. We are only two years older than you.” the teen replied.

“Everything okay, sweetheart?” Lena asked the young scientist when she yawned again.

“Yeah, just the practical part of this assignment is quite tiring.” Luna sighed.

“Oh, what kind of project? I remember in 7th grade we learned how to code through this cool program called ‘Scratch’.” Jonathan said with a proud smile.

Luna raised her eyebrow, just like her mother, in clear offence but before she could reply to her cousin Kara whispered in Kryptonese “ They don’t know you are a genius. Be nice.” She then glanced at her kids who tried to not laugh at Luna’s offended reaction.

The older twin sighed, “I’m not in 7th grade. I’m in 9th grade and since the stuff we are doing there is pretty much boring, I also started university last year. I am studying Computer Science and Engineering at MIT.” Luna informed her cousins with an innocent smile while filling her plate with food.

“Do you all go to university?” Clark asked, surprised.

“Nah, just Luna because she finds everything too boring at school.” Alex replied with a dramatic eye roll, earning a small smile and slap on his arm from his sister. “To be fair we already know what they teach us at school, but we just go for the friends.” he added while motioning to himself and his sisters.

“I’m here, I’m here.” Liran rushed into the living room, using a towel to dry his hair. He froze when he pulled away the towel and saw there were guests. “Hi.” he said with a small awkward wave before walking towards his seat, ignoring the shocked expression of the guests. “Sorry I’m late, I had to fully dry,” he added.

“It’s okay, sweetheart.” Lena replied and passed him his containers, his name on them with big red letters. “These are your cousins, Jonathan and Jordan, and your uncle Clark.” Lena introduced.

“Nice to meet you!” The blue teen replied before leaning close to Lena. “Do I have to wear my image inducer?” he whispered. The ravenette shook her head with a small smile and the boy straightened back to his seat with a small sigh of relief.

“So how was the game?” Lena asked, trying to take the attention away from her son.

“Oh, it was quite fun. Although I don’t think we saw any alien players.” Jonathan said, glancing and Liran.

“Image inducers.” Luna pointed out. “They did not want to freak your school out so they used those to cover up who is alien and who isn’t.” She added.

“We have had situations in the past where someone blamed an alien player for cheating but honestly,” Alex shook his head. “He was not even trying his best.”

“So we played with aliens today?” Jordan asked.

“Well yes, a fair amount of them were aliens.” The blonde teen replied.

“That’s crazy.” Jonathan exclaimed.

“Are we really going to ignore the fact they are freaking out about Liran?” Dawn asked.

“Dawn!” Kara and Lena exclaimed at the same time.

“What? I mean they glance at him every few seconds, and talk about aliens like they are not half aliens them-” Dawn lowered her voice at her mothers’ look. “selves.”

“They only  just found out they are aliens and who their father is.” Kara stated, looking at her kids.

That doesn’t mean they should be allowed to stare at Liran like that.” Dawn whispered in kryptonese and Luna nodded in agreement while chewing on her food.

They do make me uncomfortable, ” Liran added while pushing his food on his plate, and Kara’s eyes softened.

Clark used the fortress to learn every language in the world as well as Kryptonese. Kryptonese was quite hard compared to the other languages which was why he was not expecting his niece and nephews to talk so fluently, especially Liran. He glanced at his sons, who looked confused about what was spoken amongst the others.

Also, I do not believe Jordan should be allowed to use his powers while playing football. ” Alex added while taking a sip of his drink.

Clark’s eyes went wide.

“Wait, I heard my name.” Jordan stated, looking at his cousins.

Kara turned to Clark. “You let Jordan use his powers while playing football?”

“How do you know that?” Jordan asked, confused.

“It was pretty easy to spot.” Alex stated. “Well easy for someone who has super strength.”

“We can talk about what is right or wrong when we are alone, Kara.” Clark replied while clearing his throat.

“Your son is using his powers where he shouldn’t.” The blonde stated.

“And your kids just talked about my sons, in front of them, in another language so they would not understand.” Clark added, obviously angry at how rude Kara’s kids were. “Do you know how awful that is?”

“Of course I do, Clark, because unlike you I landed on this earth not knowing English and had to deal with everyone talking about me like that for months.” Kara added, anger clear in her voice.

“That’s enough.” Lena stated, her voice loud and clear. “The last time I had a family dinner where it was this full of anger it was with Lillian and Lex.” she stated, a thin line of anger in her voice as well while looking at the two Kryptonian adults.

Lena looked at the kids with a softer expression. “You guys should go eat in the game room while the adults have a serious talk.” She added, the last part with a bit more serious voice while looking at the two heroes. “Apologize to your cousins and Dawn, we will discuss your grounding later.”

“But-”

Lena raised her eyebrow, clearly a warning, and Dawn shut her mouth. The kids apologized to their cousins for speaking in another language and quickly collected their food to take to the other room. Before Liran left her side, she pulled him closer and whispered in his ear. “If you want to wear your image inducer to feel more comfortable, do it. But do not forget this is your house and they are the guests.” she finished and placed a kiss on his forehead.

“No eavesdropping,” Kara called out as the kids walked away. “I apologize for speaking Kryptonese in front of your family.” Kara started. “But you need to understand that my son was uncomfortable with the way your boys stared at him.”

“I know and I am sorry but they have never been this close to an alien before.” Clark stated and knew his mistake as soon as he finished the sentence.

“Clark, your sons are half aliens. You need to stop ignoring that and consider teaching them about where they are from.”

“I know.” Clark rubbed the back of his neck. “I might need some help as I do not know much. If you don’t mind,” he added with a smile.

“Well, that was easier than expected.” Lena commented in surprise.

“Unlike my cousin, I will not tell him how to raise his kids.” The blonde told her wife before turning to Clark. “But I do need to remind you to make sure he will not lose control.” Kara stated.

“Do not wor-” Clark paused and turned towards the game room with panicked eyes.

Both supers sped to the game room, leaving behind a surprised Lena who spilt her wine on the table while trying to follow them.

Clark opened the door of the game room and knelt next to his son. Jordan was on the floor, holding his head and screaming in pain.  “What happened?” he asked, looking at Jonathan.

“I don’t kno-”

“He got his super hearing.” Kara stated. “Luna, go help your mom set up the lab. Dawn, can you bring me your noise cancellation headphones? Alex, go ask your mother for a watch.” She looked around. “Where is Liran?”

“Bathroom.” Alex replied before exiting the room in a hurry.

“The lab?” Clark asked with a worried face while Kara’s kids rushed to their tasks.

“It’s nothing to worry about, I promise.” The blonde tried to calm her cousin. “HOPE, please turn on the red sun lamps.”

Red Sun lamps are activated. ” HOPE’s voice echoed in the room.

“Let’s take him to the lab so Lena can check him out.” Kara recommended when Jordan seemed to feel better.

Clark looked at his son. “I’m sorry Kara, but I think it will be better if I take him to my fortress,” he stated and helped his son to stand.

“I’m already feeling better,” Jordan mumbled.

“That’s because of the red sun lamps.” Kara stated. “They create a similar atmosphere to Krypton which means no powers.” she added.

“I found the headphones.” Dawn said, rushing into the room.

“Thank you, sweetheart.” Kara replied while taking the headphones from her daughter. “These are special noise cancellation headphones. Lena tested it on me so they would be ready for our kids and they all used them while practising their superhearing,” she explained and passed them to Jordan.

The teen glanced at his dad who nodded before taking the headphones and wearing them.

“Kal, if you need help, I’m here. I’ve already gone through training for all the powers with my kids. I’m still training the girls and if you want, your sons can join.”

Before the man could reply Alex burst through the door “There is a huge fire in Croatia.” He announced. Clark looked at his son with worry.

“I can deal with the fire and Jonathan can sleep here, or Alex can fly him back to the motel or your house.” Kara informed without hesitation.

The man nodded and turned to his son and placed his hand on his shoulder while walking to the balcony. “Stay here tonight. If I am not back by tomorrow, your aunt will take you to the bus and I will meet you in Smallville.”

Jonathan nodded and watched as his father and brother flew away, his aunt heading to the sky as well.

“Want to play mortal kombat?” Alex asked.

“Sure. What console do you have it on?” Jonathan replied with a small smile.

“All of them. But just so you know, if someone decides to rob a bank or something I will have to head out.” The blonde added while walking towards the game room.

Just then, Liran emerged, meeting them in the middle of the hallway. "Hey, did I miss anything?".
