Summary
Mary confess her love to Yumeko. It doesn't go as she hoped it would.
Note
Heya! Here is a little angst for you all. I recomend reading this while listening to Arcade by Duncan Laurence for a little extra sad. Remember to leave kudos and comments please (you can scream at me in the comments if you want)!

The door opened, the lights were all off, as usual she was the first home. She took off her shoes, leaving them by the entrance and started for her room not even bothering to switch the lights on.

Classes had just finished and she was already who knows where. Why did she always need to disappear that fast? And why always when she wanted or needed to talk to her? Sighing she resigned to talk to her after she finished all her gambles.

She left her backpack near her desk. With unusual indifference she took out her pigtails, letting her blonde hair down. She slowly took off her school uniform before making her way to the bathroom to take a shower.

It took her three hours before she could talk to her. Honestly, she really gambled too much even for a Hyakkaou's student. Five gambles in only one afternoon? Where the fuck did she find the time to study? Oh right she paid to be there.

She turned on the shower, not even waiting for the water to warm before stepping in. She stood there not doing anything for a good ten minutes, just letting the now hot water run over her. She shook herself out of whatever trance she was in long enough to wash herself.

Finally I can talk to her.
"Hey, can I talk to you in private?"
"Of course!"
She smiled. That damned smile. She walked fast towards one of the unused building. There they won't interrupted and they could talk without anyone hearing.

She turned the water off and stepped out of the shower. Standing there in front of the mirror, she reached for a towel to dry herself off while staring at the floor. Once she was dry enough, she finally looked at her reflection. Blank eyes started back at her.

"Is this about a gamble?! Do you maybe want to have a private gamble with me?!"
She was so excited for the prospect of a possible gamble. She wanted her to be excited for other things.
"I'm sorry to disappoint but no, I haven't asked you here to gamble. I just need to tell you something very important and I don't want other people hearing us."

She put on the first shirt she found with a pair of shorts. She grabbed her phone and her headphones before slipping under the covers. Opening up spotify she searched for a bit through her playlists before finding the one she wanted. Putting it on shuffle, she started listening while looking up at the ceiling.

"Oh what is it about then?"
She was slightly disappointed obviously, that little pout making its way on her lips. She took a deep breath, her heart going a mile a minute. It was now or never. She couldn't go on without knowing.
"I... you see..." looking away for a moment, a blush formed on her cheeks when she refocused her gaze on her "I'm in love with you Yumeko. I have been for a while now."

Her eyes widened slightly when a certain song came on. She didn't even remember she saved that one. She started chuckling at the irony. That chuckle became a full mirthless laugh, before developing in full on sobbing. She curled up on her side, continuing to cry.

She was starting blankly at her. Fuck. That wasn't a good sign.
"I'm sorry Mary-san. You are a great friend but nothing more to me."
And there goes her heart. She thought- well she hoped it would have been different. But really, what did she expect?
"You see I'm not interested in love or having a romantic partner. I'm really sorry."
She tried to smile like everything was okay.
"D-don't worry. I just wanted you to know. Didn't want to keep it unsaid. I will be going then now. Goodbye Yumeko."
She started walking away before anything else could be said.

She stayed in that position for hours. Thinking about it she shouldn't have been surprised about the rejection. What was she thinking really? That the great Jabami Yumeko, member of the bami clan and cousin of the council president, would fall for Saotome Mary, a no one she beat the first day she started at the academy?

She whispered in the dark.

"Loving you is a losing game...."

She really was bad at betting it all.
