Early October 1999 - Verstappen's House
Sophie was sitting on the sofa, her baby bump stretching the fabric of her sweater. Autumn was slowly settling in as Max had just celebrated his second birthday. She held in her hands an envelope that she had just opened, a tender smile on her lips, eager to share the contents with her husband.
"Honey, come see! I got the pictures."
At her side, Max was playing with one of his many little plastic cars. He raised his head, intrigued by his mother's enthusiasm.
"You're coming to see too, Maxie ?"
The little boy climbed awkwardly next to her, his clear blue eyes fixed on the clichés that Sophie carefully pulled out. Both watching one of the photos, the young mother standing and Max who had his head close to her belly.
Max blinked at the image before pointing to his mother's belly.
"Baby!" he exclaimed proudly.
Sophie laughs softly and passed an affectionate hand through his blondly ruffled hair.
"Yes honey, it's your little sister. Victoria."
Max frowned slightly, as if he was thinking hard, before repeating awkwardly:
"Itolia...?"
A laugh escaped from Sophie's lips as she tenderly kissed her son's temple.
At that moment, Jos entered the living room, attracted by their voices. He stopped near them and glanced at the pictures before sitting next to Sophie. He took one of the pictures in his hands and watched it silently, a smile on his lips.
"He will have to get used to pronouncing her name correctly."
Sophie shrugged and smiled.
"He still has time...but he already understands that she will be here soon. Eh, my love?"
Max put his little hand on the belly of his mother and touching it gently, eyes shining with excitement.
Jos put an arm around Sophie's shoulders and gently kissed her forehead, a rare moment of sweetness in their often hectic daily lives.
"Only a few more weeks..." he murmured, staring at Sophie's womb where their daughter was growing up.
Sophie laid her head against his shoulder, enjoying the moment. She felt at ease, surrounded by the two people she loved most in the world.

22 October 1999
As soon as possible, Jos walked through the maternity holding Max's hand who walking at his own pace. He clung to his father, his eyes still clouded with sleep. When they arrived in front of Sophie's room, Jos stopped for a moment and then gently pushed the door.
Sophie was lying in bed, a tiny baby swaddling against her breast. Her exhausted look lit up as Max walked in.
"Hi, my angel. Did you come to see your little sister?"
Jos gently placed Max on the edge of the bed. The little boy approached timidly, his eyes fixed on the sleeping infant. Sophie lowered the blanket slightly, revealing Victoria's peaceful face.
Max remained silent for a moment, observing each detail with fascination, before blowing low:
"Itolia..."
Sophie felt her heart melt. She reached out to her son and pulled him against her, holding him in her arms.
"Yes, my love. Victoria."
Jos, standing next to the bed, looked at them in silence. He crouched down to be at Max's height and passed a hand through his hair.
"You're going to have to be gentle with her, you know."
Max shook his head seriously, as if he understood the importance of his role as a big brother. Then, after a moment of hesitation, he reached for the baby and gently touched his cheek with the tip of his index finger.
An immense smile stretched the lips of Sophie as she exchanged a look of complicity with Jos who leaned to kiss her.
Sophie and Victoria both going well, they were able to return to Maaseik after 3 days.
The door opened gently to the familiar interior of their house. The smell far less disturbing than the hospital's one welcomed Sophie as she crossed the entrance, still holding Victoria against her. Behind, Jos carried Max, whose head rested on his shoulder. He had fallen asleep in the car, his little hands still clutching his plushie that he refused to let go.
Sophie walked slowly to the living room and sat down on the sofa, cradling Victoria who was waking up peacefully. She looked at her son, who was sleeping deeply, and smiled while tenderly stroking his blond hair, kissing his head.
The couple both turned their heads towards the sleeping boy, his lips slightly open, his breathing peaceful.
"I have the impression that it was yesterday that we went back with him..." whispered Sophie, a touch of nostalgia in her voice as Jos carried him to his bed.
He then returned and remained silent for a moment, glancing at his wife and their daughter, then approached, sitting next to her.
"It's true that it's crazy... Two years ago it was Max." he blew while looking at Victoria, who was who was breastfeeding by her mother.
Sophie looked up at him.
"You're gonna have to manage two kids and formula one now."
Jos nodded slowly, then, without a word, he slipped an arm around her. Sophie let herself go against him, enjoying the reassuring warmth of her embrace.
A comfortable silence settled down, only disturbed by the sound of the wind outside.
Sophie looked up at Jos, looking for his gaze.
"I love you."
He sketched a light smile, tired but sincere.
"Me too."
Then, slowly, he kissed her.
Their new family life had just begun.
And indeed it began with baby crying in the middle of the night.
Sophie was doing her best to put the little one to sleep, much to the misfortune of Jos who just wanted to sleep. He did not speak but the tension was visible on his face.
"Jos?"
"Yeah?"
"I thought I heard a noise in Max's room..."
Jos grunted slightly, still half asleep, but he straightened up anyway, passing a tired hand on his face. He glanced at Sophie, who was always cradling Victoria gently, and got up shuffling his feet to the next room.
The door was still a little open, and in the soft light of the corridor there was a small figure standing on his bed. Max, in his pajamas, rubbed his tired eyes, his blanket pressed against him.
Jos crouched down to be at his height.
"So... did your sister wake you up?"
Max did not answer, moving instead his hands in all directions, his father sighing before taking him in his arms to bring him back into the parental room.
"She's noisy, huh?"
Max shook his head against his shoulder.
Jos left the room with him and returned to theirs. Sophie now half lying on the bed raised her eyes to them as they came in, still with Victoria who had ended up calming her tears.
Max stared at her with a mixture of curiosity and caution. He wasn't quite sure what to think of this tiny baby that was grabbing everyone's attention.
"Hello Maxie... you come to see Victoria?"
The baby lying in the middle of the bed, Max sitting next to her.
"Did you see, my love, how she looks like you? You too were little like that"
Gently moving her small arms and legs, Max reach his hand to do like his mother, who held with her hand one of her daughter. He lay down next to them, made his parents smiles.
Jos lay down in turn, looking at his wife.
"She's lucky to have a big brother who loves her. Do we let them sleep with us?"
"Yes... you are the three loves of my life."
And slowly Max fell asleep.
