Meeting Mei Hatsume

Izuku is relatively used to dealing with explosions and similar threats, but evidently Hitoshi is not. Hitoshi doesn’t actually seem hurt, Izuku blocked his friend from the very minimal flying debris that there was, so his passing out is likely due to surprise not actual injuries.

“Toshi,” Izuku calls, gently shaking his friend. “Come on Toshi get up.”

“Oh shit,” Hitoshi says, startling awake and shooting up so that Izuku has to swerve to avoid colliding foreheads. “What the hell?”

“I think the explosion just startled you, I don’t think you got hurt.”

“Yeah, I just wasn’t prepared,” Hitoshi says apologetically, before his eyes widen. “Wait you covered me! Are you okay?”

“Yep, don’t worry! Just a few scratches, there wasn’t much to shield you from in the first place. It was just instinct.”

“Thanks Zuku,” Hitoshi says, a light grin on his face.

Izuku nods and looks around before finding the origin of the explosion. Inside the doorway Izuku can see two figures. The first one Izuku recognizes as pro hero Power Loader and the second is a teen with pink hair, wearing a grey tank top, black cargo pants, and work boots and gloves. Upon further observation Izuku also notices that they are covered in grease, so they are likely working on mechanics of some sort.

“...told you to stop exploding things!” Power Loader scolds as Izuku tunes into the two people’s conversation.

“Aww come on,” the pink haired teen laughs. “Explosions are essential for the creative process!”

“You know what, fine, just don’t destroy the whole building, I’m going to get some coffee,” Power Loader sighs, this is clearly not the first time that the two are having this conversation.

Power Loader stops in the doorway when he sees the two boys on the floor.

“You kids okay?”

“Yeah we’re fine, thanks!” Izuku says cheerfully, he can tell the hero needs a break.

“Thank god,” Power Loader groans, dragging a hand down his face. “I recommend you get out of here before you get exploded again.”

Izuku just nods politely and Power Loader turns to leave. Izuku reaches down to help Hitoshi up off the floor just as he feels a set of eyes turn to him.

“Oh hello! Are you guys okay? Sorry for the explosion! Oh hey there Hitoshi! That’s the third time that baby has exploded today. I’m not really sure what’s wrong with it, I’m sure I’ll figure it out soon. Who are you? I don’t think I’ve seen you around before!” The pink haired teen rambles as they run up to the boys, pouncing to give Hitoshi a hug and stepping back.

“You must be Mei Hatsume,” Izuku grins, extending his hand. “I’m Izuku Midoriya, he/him. Nice to meet you!”

“Nice to meet you Midoriya! I am indeed! She/her! How did you know?”

“Feel free to call me Izuku,” the green haired teen offers, already able to tell he is going to get along fine with the girl standing before him. “And I may have said something along the line of ‘the best scientists are the mad ones’ earlier and all the teachers panicked about you attending school this year. It was a simple connection given he explosion.”

“I like you already Izuku!” Mei grins, practically bouncing in excitement. “Call me Mei! How do you know Hitoshi?”

Izuku glances at Hitoshi, who has been silent throughout the exchange, and laughs at how completely over everything he looks.

“I met him working at the library! How do you know him?”

“Our families are well acquainted,” Mei grins. “Do you know much about babies?”

“Pardon?” Izuku asks, looking concerned.

“She means her gadgets,” Hitoshi laughs. “She calls her creations babies.”

“Well then yes, I know plenty about babies,” Izuku grins, starting to join Mei in her excited bouncing.

“Don’t you dare start calling them babies as well Zuku, I will lose it.”

“Awww Toshi, you don’t like babies?”

Hitoshi just glares him down before grinning mischievously and quickly jumping on Izuku’s back, who just adjusts his footing slightly to accommodate.

“You were bouncing again. Mei is too actually, what is it with you people and bouncing? One day I’m gonna catch you off guard enough to fall over.”

“No you won’t,” Izuku grins before turning back to Mei who was watching the interaction with amusement. “So about those babies?”

“Oh yes! Come in!” Mei exclaims, dragging Izuku by the arm into the classroom.

Izuku is glad that with the giant UA doorways he doesn’t have to duck to accommodate Hitoshi on his back. Once he gets inside the green haired boy gasps in excitement.

“Oh my gosh a lab!” Izuku quickly throws Hitoshi down in a chair and runs around picking up everything to observe it. “This stuff is so cool! I’ve never been able to use equipment like this before! Imagine everything you could make with all these materials!”

“I can’t believe you just threw me down,” Hitoshi grumbles, pulling out his phone. “So rude Zuku. I guess we are gonna be here a while. Let me know if you need me.”

Izuku just laughs at his purple haired friend and continues to pick up everything he can get his hands on.

“Come here!” Mei calls, grinning at Izuku’s obvious excitement. “Look at what I was working on! I’m trying to make a gun. It’s supposed to be a replica of a military grade assault rifle, but it shoots tranquilizer instead of real bullets. I’m not sure why, but it explodes every time I try to fire it. I thought it might be the tranquilizer but I’m sure that it isn’t getting out of the bullets, I’ve checked. I’ve tried rewiring it. I’ve tried new parts. I just can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong.”

“That’s really cool! Super useful for someone without long range attacks, or for fighting large groups. You have the blueprints?”

“Yeah of course! Oh by the way, I never asked, what’s your quirk? Mine is zoom, it lets me see things up to five kilometers away if I focus. It’s not all that useful, but that’s okay!”

“Oh, I actually don’t have one,” Izuku says trying his best to appear nonchalant even with the knot forming in his stomach.

“Oh my gosh! That means I get to make all sorts of cool babies for you! If we get this one up and running you should use it for your hero work! Actually, we could make a slightly smaller version that you can have with you at all times! A tranquilizer handgun!” Mei says, grinning even brighter at the idea of more inventions.

“That would be epic Mei!” Izuku exclaims, relieved and shocked that Mei was not even slightly put off by his quirklessness. ‘Maybe UA really will be different from other places’

“Oh here is your problem! It’s in the way the mechanics are set up..” Izuku begins to explain after looking at the blueprints, as Mei bounces and nods along to Izuku’s explanation.

Hitoshi looks up from his phone and smiles slightly. ‘It’s nice to see Izuku making another friend. He seems to be doing well with meeting Mei. Though maybe that’s because they are both socially awkward inventors.’ Hitoshi shrugs at his thoughts. ‘It’s still something.’

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At some point Hitoshi had put down his phone and moved to watch Mei and Izuku’s work. He still stayed a safe distance away though, for fear of another explosion. Hitoshi is currently invested in watching Izuku and Mei begin to assemble a handgun version of the tranquilizer rifle, which was a success, when suddenly Izuku’s head shoots up.
“Two people are coming,” he says, tilting his head to listen better.
“How can you tell?” Hitoshi asks confused, Mei just looks fascinated.
“I could sense their footsteps,” Izuku says when suddenly he jolts and grabs Hitoshi’s arm. “Into the vents, come on.”
“Wha-”
“It’s your parents and I don’t want to leave yet, the baby is coming along nicely.”
Hitoshi just laughs, but follows Izuku’s lead to hop into the vent overhead. Mei looks amused and turns back to the handgun before her. Izuku closes the vent and then looks down through the slats.
“Oh shoot! Mei,” Izuku calls. “Hide Hitoshi’s phone! He left it on the chair.”
“No problem!” Mei grins, bolting over to tuck the purple haired boy’s phone into her pocket and then turning back to the work table just as the door opens.
“Hey there little listener!” Hizashi’s unmistakable voice calls. “Have you seen Hitoshi and his friend Izuku? Power Loader said they were here earlier.”
“Not recently!” Mei grins. “They just said hello and were on their way! Wanna see the baby I’ve been working on?”
“Ah, not today little listener! I’m glad your having a good time inventing! We really must find the boys!” Hizashi responds.
Mei just nods and turns back to her work as the two adults leave the room. As soon as the door shuts Izuku removes the vent and hops down again, Hitoshi right behind him.
“Thanks Mei!”
“Of course! Now back to the baby!”
“My phone?” Hitoshi interjects before the two can become too invested in their work.
Mei just throws his phone at him before grabbing Izuku by the arm and pointing to something, launching into a sentence that includes many technical terms that Hitoshi doesn’t understand in the slightest but Izuku seems to follow just fine.
Around an hour later the door to the lab opens again, Izuku being too invested in his work to sense the people returning to the area of the building.
“Oh my god,” Shouta’s voice groans from the doorway.
“Hey there little listeners!” Hizashi calls. “Where were you earlier? We’ve been looking for you forever!”
“Around,” Hitoshi says, waving his hand around vaguely and setting his phone down to look at his dads.
“Yeah okay,” Shouta sighs. “What are you Problem Children doing?”
“Fuck yeah! It’s done!” Izuku exclaims, not responding to Shouta’s question and lifting the gun proudly from the table.
“Yay! Testing time!” Mei chimes in, an ecstatic grin on her face.
“Did you make a gun?” Hizashi asks, concerned.
“Well yes, but a tranquilizer gun! We also made a tranquilizer rifle! The gun is much more practical for everyday use though, given that carrying a rifle around isn’t the easiest.”
“You made a rifle?” Hizashi gasps, even more concerned now.
“Yeah! I’ll show you! Mei? Target time!”
Mei quickly pulls out a test dummy made to replicate shooting a human without having to, you know, actually shoot someone. Izuku grabs the rifle of the nearby table and cocks it, before shooting the target and hitting it deadcenter of the chest.
“Problem Child, how do you know how to shoot a rifle?”
“My dad,” Izuku lies easily, before setting the rifle down. “Now it’s time to test the gun! Mei, would you like to do the honors?”
“Hell yeah!” Mei exclaims, snatching the gun from Izuku.
“Hold up, why did your dad teach you how to shoot a rifle?”
“Jeez Dadzawa, stop being such a worrier. It was in case I ever needed to use one. The life of a quirkless kid isn’t exactly the safest.”
Shouta just sighs at the name and Hizashi puts an arm around him, mildly amused at the use of the name but still concerned by Izuku’s proficiency with a gun.
“You might want to step back!” Mei calls, unfazed. “If this one explodes like the rifle did the first few times, I don’t want y’all getting hurt!”
Izuku isn’t worried, but the whole of the Aizawa-Yamada family quickly steps away. Mei lifts the handgun and quickly shoots the dummy three times. She isn’t as good as Izuku but it does the job, and there is no explosion.
“We did it!” Mei exclaims, tossing the gun on the table and throwing herself at Izuku.
“Of course we did!” Izuku grins, returning Mei’s hug and lifting her slightly in the air.
“They are going to create so much chaos this year, aren’t they,” Shouta sighs.
“They certainly are,” Hitoshi confirms, trying to cover up the smile on his face. “Good job guys!”
“Get your ass over here!” Izuku calls.
“What? No!”
“Yes! Group hug!” Mei exclaims, and Izuku lets her down briefly so she runs over and grabs the taller boy with surprising strength. Though, when Hitoshi thinks about it, it isn’t that surprising considering how much muscle she must need for the work she does.
“Ugh fine,” Hitoshi groans, allowing himself to get dragged over to Izuku.
Izuku grins and wraps the reluctant Hitoshi and excited Mei into a group hug.
“Okay little listeners! I’m glad you are all having a good time, but we really need to head home now!”
“Yeah, you managed to evade us for an hour so we are running late,” Shouta complains, glaring lightheartedly at the two boys.
“Aww okay! Well you guys are in the hero course, so I’ll find you at lunch tomorrow!”
“Yeah fine,” Hitoshi says dismissively. “It was nice to see you Mei.”
“You too grumpy,” Mei smirks.
Izuku starts cackling and Hitoshi just grumbles something about them being the death of him, before walking over to his waiting dads.
“Bye Mei-Mei!” Izuku grins, before he freezes. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t- I mean- sorry.”
“It’s okay Zuku! I love the nickname! Can I call you Zuku?”
“Oh, good, I’m glad,” Izuku breathes, relieved. “Yeah of course, well as long as it’s okay with Toshi, he came up with the name after all.”
“Of course it’s fine dumbass,” Hitoshi says fondly.
“Yay!” Mei grins. “See you tomorrow Zuku!”
“Bye fellow mad scientist!” Izuku grins, hugging Mei one last time before following the Aizawa-Yamadas back to their car.
Izuku is invited to have dinner with Hitoshi again and he gratefully accepts before heading home to get a reasonable nights sleep before his first day at UA. He is still nervous, but it has been eased slightly by his interactions with the faculty and Mei. After texting to check on Himiko and Dabi, he quickly falls asleep, exhausted from the day of social interaction and inventing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Izuku wakes up to his alarm going off and groans, reaching to snooze it before remembering that it’s his first day at UA. He is suddenly very awake. He gets up and quickly takes a shower before toweling dry his unruly hair. He grabs his comb and attempts to comb through his hair, but quickly gives up, opting to just run damp hands through it to minimize the frizz.

As Izuku puts on his UA uniform her realizes that he doesn’t know how to tie a tie, so he just drapes it around his neck and hopes that it’s good enough. He then grabs his phone to text Hitoshi, only to find that his friend has already texted him inviting him to come over and get a ride from his dads to UA so that he doesn’t have to take public transportation. Izuku gratefully accepts, it’s not that he can’t take public transportation he just isn’t a fan. Izuku heads down to the local corner store to use the restroom and purchase a granola bar, and walks over to the Aizawa-Yamada house.

Upon their arrival to UA, Izuku is quite literally shaking with nerves. They arrive early because Hizashi and Shouta need to get ready to teach, so there isn’t a swarm of kids yet, which is a relief but not enough to stop Izuku’s shaking.

“Zuku, it’s gonna be okay,” Hitoshi comforts. “We will have class together and everything!”

“Okay, yeah, for sure,” Izuku mumbles, following Hitoshi into the building through the staff door.

“We have to get to work,” Shouta deadpans. “Don’t get into too much trouble.”

With a jaunty wave from Hizashi, the two pro heroes enter the staff room leaving the boys in the hallway.

“Can we take the vents?”

“Sure,” Hitoshi laughs. “We can take the vents. You wanna go see if Mei is here yet? She tends to come early to tinker.”

“Yeah!”

Sure enough, Izuku can see Mei through the vent slats tinkering away at what appears to be a metal mask. Izuku looks at Hitoshi and makes a shushing motion before quietly removing the vent.

“Hey Mei-Mei!” Izuku practically yells, jumping down from the vent behind her.

Mei leaps in surprise and whirls around, ready to throw a wrench at the boy before realizing who it is.

“Oh my gosh! Hi Zuku! Hi Hitoshi!” Mei greets, her shock already forgotten.

“Sup,” Hitoshi says, quickly situating himself in a nearby chair.

“You guys excited for your first day?”

“Yeah sure,” Hitoshi deadpans, sounding a lot like Shouta in the moment.

“He definitely is, don’t let him fool you,” Izuku grins. “I am, but I’m also nervous. I haven’t exactly had the best experiences with kids my age. Are you excited?”

“I’m sure your day will be just fine! If anyone messes with you, let me know! I have plenty of babies to fuck them up. I’m so excited! I’m more excited for when we gets to finally create support items for the hero course though. Can I create yours? I have so many ideas!”

“I’m sure you do, but please don’t attack anyone,” Izuku laughs. “Unless they really deserve it.” Hitoshi snorts at that as Izuku continues, “You can definitely create my support items, as long as I get to help you!”

“I suppose that works,” Mei says, pretending to think it over. “No, that definitely works!”

“Now tell me what you are working on!” Izuku says, and Mei immediately launches into a long explanation of the mask she is working on that is supposed to mimic a fire breathing quirk.

“Hey guys, I’m glad that you are having a good time, but school starts in twenty minutes so Izuku and I should head to our classroom.”

“Aww,” Mei whines. “Okay, but I’m going to find you guys at lunch!”

“Deal,” Hitoshi grins, standing up. “Come on Zuku.”

“Bye Mei-Mei!” Izuku says, grabbing the pink haired teen into a hug.

“Bye Mei!” Hitoshi calls, as both him and Izuku pull themselves up into the vents.

Once in the vents, Izuku turns to Hitoshi, “I bet people are gonna be in there already cuz it’s the first day of school so we should try to get in the classroom without anyone seeing us. So we just appear there and confuse the shit out of everyone.”

“That’s fantastic, let’s do it” Hitoshi laughs and the two boys make their way to class 1-A.

When they arrive above the classroom, Izuku looks into the room and notices that around half the class is already there. He whispers this to Hitoshi, who nods to confirm he heard.

“Let’s go now, no one is looking this way. Be as quiet as possible,” Izuku whispers as he slowly removes the grate and the two gently hop into the classroom and quickly take their seats.

“Oh!” Comes an exclamation, and Hitoshi and Izuku look up. Izuku sees a face he recognizes walking up to them: a girl with short brown hair, big eyes, and what seems to be an ever present blush. “Hello! I didn’t see you earlier! We met at the entrance exam!” She says, extending a hand to Izuku.

“Oh um yeah, Ochako Uraraka right?” Izuku asks, slightly put out by the lack of response at their sudden appearance in the classroom. He will just have to try harder next time.

“Yes! You’re Midoriya right? Thank you so much for saving me from that zero pointer!”

“You saved her?” Hitoshi chimes in. “Nicely done Zuku.”

“Oh! Hello! I’m Uraraka Ochako, she/her, but you just heard that,” the brunette laughs. “Nice to meet you.”

“I’m Hitoshi Yamazawa, he/him,” Hitoshi greets. “It’s nice to meet you too.”

“I’m so nervous-” Uraraka begins, before they get cut off by yelling.

“Remove your feet from the desk! That is disrespectful to UA property and to those who came before us!” Exclaims a stiff teen from right in front of Izuku, their hands chopping the air as they talk.

“Shut up four eyes,” snaps the blonde in the seat in front of Izuku.

Izuku gasps as he recognizes the ignited quirk in front of him. Katsuki Bakugou, he knew him at elementary school. They weren’t close but Bakugou was never nice to him, in fact he instigated a lot of the bullying Izuku endured. Izuku practically curls in on himself, he has terrible memories of those specific explosions. He has gotten over the way he used to flinch whenever there were loud noises but seeing the exact person who helped create that fear in the first place is a different story.

At that moment the stiff teen seems to notice Uraraka, Izuku, and Hitoshi looking at him and turns.

“Hello classmates,” they greet. “I am Tenya Iida, he/him.”

“Ochako Uraraka, she/her!”

“Hitoshi Yamazawa, he/him.”

“Uh, he/him, Izuku Midoriya,” the green haired boy stutters out, still slightly curled in on himself.

“What!?” Bakugou exclaims whirling around. “What are you doing here?”

“Hey Bakugou…” Izuku says, stilling his whole body and trying to appear nonchalant. ‘This is so stupid. I’ve fought so many people of such greater threat than him before he shouldn’t have this effect on me. Wait, that’s right, he can’t do anything to me. I’m stronger now. I’m not useless anymore.’ Izuku’s eyes widen almost imperceptibly at his realization and he straightens back up, no one noticing his hand as it slips up his sleeve.

“Answer my question!” The explosive blond yells. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m in this class?” Izuku offers, looking at Bakugou like he is stupid.

“You don’t belong here!” Bakugou yells, whirling with his quirk activated. “I haven’t seen you in years and you just suddenly show up at UA? Bullshit!”

Before Hitoshi, Uraraka, or Iida can make a move to do anything Bakugou slams his quirk activated hands on Izuku’s desk, before the blond freezes.

“Bakugou?” Uraraka tries, worried at the way the boy’s eyes are wide with fear.

Hitoshi stands to move next to Izuku and realizes why the boy is frozen. No one else seems too interested in the scene at the edge of the classroom, being too invested in their own conversations.

“Zuku, where the hell did you get a knife?”

At this question, Iida and Uraraka both look down at the table before them and gasp in surprise. Right between Bakugou’s thumb and index finger, only slightly off from piercing the boys hand, is a knife that Izuku is still gripping.

“Please don’t damage my desk Bakugou,” Izuku says sweetly, pulling the knife out of the desk and putting it back in the sheath on his forearm. “I just had it on me.”

Bakugou recovers and glares at the boy, but whirls to face the front anyways.

“It is not appropriate to have knives on campus!” Iida begins, about to scold the boy.

“Oh I’m sorry,” Izuku says, looking nervous again. “But actually, it never says anywhere in the handbook that I can not have them. I read the whole thing front to back. So I hope I’m okay.”

“Well my apologies then,” Iida bows. “I should not have assumed. Though, you also do not have your tie tied! That is not appropriate! The dress code-”

“Never specifies anything about having it tied,” Hitoshi says, trying to get Izuku out of the scolding, seeing the other boys discomfort.

“Yeah come on Iida!” Uraraka grins. “It’s not a big deal!”

“My apologies, it is nice to meet you all!” Iida loudly says again, bowing. “I am going to go greet our other classmates now!”

“That was so cool Midoriya!” Uraraka exclaims once Iida is gone. “I can’t believe how accurate you got that knife! Do you know Bakugou?”

Bakugou grunts from in front of them, but the three teens ignore him.

“Oh, um, thanks. It wasn’t anything really,” Izuku says, waving off the complement awkwardly. “And yeah, we went to the same elementary school. I haven’t seen him in years though.”

“I can’t believe the first thing he did was yell at you,” Uraraka says, glaring daggers into the back of Bakugou’s head.

“Ah yeah, well, it’s okay, don’t worry about it,” Izuku says quickly, not wanting another fight to break out.

“We should meet some of our other classmates!” Uraraka says brightly, turning back to Izuku.

“Oh uh well, we can do that later right?”

“Yeah, later,” Hitoshi agrees, also looking uncomfortable at the idea of talking to their classmates.

“Aww, come on! It’ll be nice to get to know them!” Uraraka motions for them to follow her and the boys feel obligated to do so.

“Hello!” Uraraka calls to a group of teens at the front of the classroom.

“Hi there!” Comes an energetic voice from a teen with pink skin, pink hair, and horns. She looks rather alienesque and Izuku thinks it’s actually quite cool. “I’m Mina Ashido, she/her! It’s nice to meet you guys!”

“Yeah it’s nice to meet you bros! I’m Eijirou Kirishima! He/him!” The enthusiastic red haired boy next to Ashido greets.

“Hey! I’m Denki Kaminari, he/him!” Pipes in a blonde haired boy with what appears to be a black lightning bolt in his hair.

“It’s nice to meet you guys! I’m Ochako Uraraka, she/her! That’s Hitoshi Yamazawa and Izuku Midoriya, both he/him,” the brunette introduces them, waving to the boys when she says their names.

Izuku lifts his arm in an awkward wave as the three in front of them grin and wave back enthusiastically.

“That entrance exam was crazy wasn’t it?” Kirishima asks. “I was so nervous!”

“Yeah for sure, I can’t control the direction of my quirk so I was worried about harming my fellow examinees! I had to stay away from everyone!” Kaminari exclaims, shifting from foot to foot.

“What’s your quirk?” Hitoshi asks curiously, and Izuku is grateful that his purple haired friend asked because he didn’t want to, but he wanted to know.

“Electrification!” Kaminari explains excitedly. “I can generate electricity and expel it, which is why is was nice during the exam. I can’t control the direction though so I have to be careful around other people. I can only do up to 1.3 million volts though and even that much makes my brain short circuit.”

Izuku ponders this quirk. ‘Fascinating. I can imagine so many uses for that quirk. I’m sure it can be used by just touching someone as well. If he concentrated it into one limb it would probably be able to avoid short circuiting his brain. Though expelling it outward, it makes sense to not be able to control the direction. Maybe if I created a support item-’ Izuku looks up and the five teens around him staring at him curiously.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Izuku says quietly, fidgeting with his hands. “I tend to mumble when I’m analyzing things. I’ll stop now.”

“No dude! Don’t worry! From what I could make out that was really interesting!” Kaminari assures the green haired boy.

“Really?” Izuku asks, shocked.

“Yeah bro!” Kirishima pipes in.

“I- okay- thanks,” Izuku stutters, sliding slightly behind Hitoshi, uncomfortable from all the attention on him. ‘This is so different from the streets, or even from elementary.’

“You wanna hear about my quirk?” Ashido asks, noticing Izuku’s discomfort, and not even waiting for a response. “My quirk is acid! It’s pretty self explanatory, I generate acid from my body!”

“Mina’s quirk is so cool!” Kirishima exclaims, grinning at his friend. “My quirk is hardening, it allows me to harden my skin. It makes my punches stronger and prevents most bullets and stabs and stuff from hurting me, but there is a limit to it and how long I can hold it.”

“Mine is called Zero Gravity,” Uraraka says once Kirishima is done explaining his. “If I touch something I can erase the gravity of it but not things that are too heavy or I get nauseous.”

Izuku’s mind is running at a mile a minute trying to analyze everything he possibly can about his classmates quirk. ‘She probably just manipulates gravity, she doesn’t erase it, or everything she activated her quirk on would simply go into the atmosphere. I remember from the entrance exam that things hovered in the air.’ Izuku tunes back into the conversation to hear Hitoshi hesitantly begin speaking.

“Oh well, my quirk is brainwashing. If someone responds to me I can take control of them and tell them to do things. It’s pretty self explanatory,” Hitoshi explains nervously, preparing himself to be called a villain like normal.

“That’s so cool!” Kaminari exclaims, bouncing like Izuku does when he is excited

“Bro, that is such a useful quirk!” Kirishima grins.

“Can you brainwash me?” Ashido asks, looking excited.

“Are you sure?” Hitoshi says, wondering if he is being tricked.

“Yeah definitely!”

“What would you want me to make you do?”

“Umm,” Ashido ponders this before snapping her fingers. “Just make me spin in a few circles!”

“Okay,” Hitoshi shrugs, still looking worried. “You ready?”

“Yeah!” Ashido stills, face going slack, as Hitoshi’s quirk takes hold.

“Spin in a circle twice,” Hitoshi instructs.

Kaminari, Kirishima, and Uraraka look fascinated as Ashido begins her circles, and Izuku is absolutely ecstatic. This is his first time seeing Hitoshi use his quirk and his brain is still moving a mile a minute, trying to process every possible detail. When Ashido stops her circles, Hitoshi releases the hold of his quirk.

“Oh my gosh! Yamazawa! That was so cool!” Ashido gushes.

“Bro that was epic!” Kirishima exclaims, Kaminari and Uraraka nodding in agreement.

“Wow, um, thanks,” Hitoshi says, shocked by such a positive response to his quirk.

“So Midoriya,” Uraraka turns to look at the green haired boy. “What’s your quirk?”

“Oh,” Izuku says, beginning to panic when suddenly a voice comes from the doorway.

“Hello,” comes the deadpan voice that Izuku has come to know very well.

The entire class whips their heads to the door to look at Shouta, who is standing there in a yellow sleeping bag, coffee in hand.

“It took you eight seconds to get quiet,” Shouta says, slipping out of his sleeping bag and to the front of the class. “That was much too long. Get better. I’m Shouta Aizawa, your homeroom teacher. We are going to the PE grounds, put on your uniforms.” The pro hero deadpans, throwing the uniforms onto his desk and looking at the class. “You have 10 minutes to get out there, if you are late I will expel you.”

With that, Shouta leaves, leaving the class, with the exception of Izuku and Hitoshi, gaping.

“We should probably get going,” Hitoshi says. “I don’t think he was kidding about expelling people.”

This gets people moving, and the whole class rushes to the front to grab their PE uniforms.
