baby steps

Momo woke up to the sound of her alarm. She clumsily reaches out to the bedside table and turned it off and checked the time.

6:30am

She grunts.

It was already Friday, her last day of work, she didn’t want to go but of course she had to. But it was also Friday, which means it’s date night!

She closed her eyes and smiled.

She was excited but also a bit nervous; she needs to have this go smoothly because she planned this night to be the start of Momo’s second chance at their marriage. Nothing should go wrong.

So, with a huff of breath, she stands up, makes their bed, prepared her clothes for the day, and went to take a shower. After about 30 minutes of getting ready, she went downstairs to the kitchen and found her wife already drinking her coffee and typing on her phone with a frown.

“Good morning, grumpy. Why aren’t you dressed yet? I thought you were going to meet Chae and Sana early today?” Momo said as she was pouring herself a cup of coffee.

“I’m talking to the manager at the beach where the wedding will be held and they texted me just now that the beach is already booked for another wedding and now we’re fucked because it’s only a week until the wedding and- oh my god Momo, are you okay?”

She put down her phone after she heard Momo choking on her own coffee. “Yeah, I’m okay. What do you mean the beach is already booked?” She said as she took the tissue box that Mina was handing her.

“I know it’s weird because I don't know anyone in town who's getting married as well and at the same day too! I’m going to call them and ask about the details; this is going to ruin the mood for Sana and Chae.”

“Uhm, but aren’t you going to get dressed first, you don’t want to be late with your meet-up with Sana and Chae.”

“Yeah, but I need to fix this first.”

“I’ll talk to the manager. Give it to me, so you can go get ready. I don’t want you getting stressed when tonight’s our date night.” Mina giggled as she was handing her wife her phone

“You’re a life-saver, Momo. I’ll just be quick okay?”

“No problem at all.” She smiled at Mina and waited to hear the door closing to their room when she sighed in relief. She went outside and called the manager.

Anything for Mina.

She was already eating when Mina sat across from her again all ready to go out.

“So, did you talk to the manager? She’s a bit stubborn, isn’t she?”

“Yeah, but I took care of it, of course. The wedding’s still on, same place, time and date.” She says looking at Mina with a playful arrogance in her face.

“Oh my god. How did you do it? Thank you so much oh my god, I thought we’ll be screwed for a second there? What did you tell her?”

“I just used my charm on her and everything fell right into place again. It’s all in my power of persuasion.” She wiggled her eyebrows at Mina and received a giggle in return.

“Okay persuasive master. Thank you so much. But I’m starting to think if you would help me talk to the manager if tonight’s not date night.” Mina said with a playful suspicious glare.

Momo put her right hand on her chest and fake gasped. “Of course not. I’d do anything to help my wife out.”

Mina giggled. “Yeah right. Speaking of date night, what time should we meet?”

“Well, I’ll be at work the whole day and you’ll be out preparing for the wedding, so I booked the restaurant at 9pm. Does that sound okay? I took into consideration the prep time we will have when we get home from our schedule the whole day.”

“That sounds perfect. I can’t wait for later.”

“Me too.” She smiled lovingly at Mina.

“Hey, aren’t you going to be late for work? You can’t be late for your last day.”

“Oh shit. Right I’m going now, do you need a lift to where you’re going? I can drop you off.”

“It’s okay, Chae’s going to pick me up. She’s on the way now.”

“Okay then I’ll go now. See you later.” She was almost out the door when she hears Mina calling her.

“Wait I forgot to give you this. I made lunch for you, for your last day at work.”

“Wow you’re awesome! I can’t wait to eat this I’m sure it’s going to be gourmet. Thank you.” She said while smiling at the packed lunch her wife made for her.

Mina then held her hand, leaned in and kissed her on the cheek. “I’ll see you tonight, Momoring.” Momo literally skipped to work.

“Ohh this tastes good, I like this. How about you Mina do think this is good?”

“Mhmm. Yeah, I love this. This is so good.” Mina even closed her eyes while she said it which made Sana giggle.

“Okay then that’s the last of the dessert decided.”

“Wow everything tastes great."

"Don't eat too much, Minari! I know it's your date night tonight so I don't want to get in trouble with Momo for letting you be full before later." Chaeyoung had genuine fear in her eyes when she said those words.

"Don't worry, I just took one bite out of all the food they served us." Mina caught Sana's eyes and wiggled her eyebrows at her. Mina rolled her eyes and got ready with the amount of teasing she knows she'll receive.

"So are you gonna wear something reveling later?" Chaeyoung said in a very annoying teasing tone.

"Of course not! Momo said it was a nice place so I want to look presentable later."

"Not in the restaurant, stupid. We meant in the bedroom. Come on we'll buy you a new lingerie since I know it's been a long time since you had sexy time." Mina's disapproving face after Sana said those words out loud in a public place was enough for them to laugh at her.

"Okay, first of all, this conversation is the type where we need to talk about in a private place in case you've forgotten and second, I will not be shopping lingerie with you guys okay?"

A beat.

"Because I've already bought new ones before I came home yesterday." Mina said making her voice very low so no one could hear in the nearby tables.

"OH MY GOD!!!! You gotta show us!!! What color is it?"

"Is it stretchy? I needs to be stretchy!"

"Does it have a zipper or buttons? Zippers are much more comfortable. You don't want to be uncomfortable."

"Is the bra a push-up? So your boobs will look bi-"

This was obviously a fucking mistake. They were louder than ever.

"STOP!" Mina said in a loud whisper. "Oh my god guys we will not be talking about tonight okay? That's between me and Momo."

"Okay Mina, chill. We don't wanna ruin your day but we were just so excited."

"Yeah. Sana and I were just talking last night how Momo is working hard right now to really impress you and make things right between the both of you. We're happy for you."

Mina had a gentle smile on her face. She really appreciates everything Momo is doing for her at the moment. Starting from the moment quit her job, which was one of the top contenders for straining their relationship these past years.

"I know. Thanks guys and I'm also so happy with what's happening with us right now. I just hope that things will get better from now on. I'll also work to keep Momo in my life. I want her with me forever."

After Mina was done speaking she looked at her friends who had tears brimming in their eyes.

"Oh our Mina. We love you so much and we're always rooting for you both." Sana was full on sobbing now while she and Chaeyoung was calming her down.

"Okay Sana, you need you need to calm down now. We still need to take Mina home so she can get ready for tonight."

Oh shit. She looked at the time which read 5:30pm, which means Momo will be coming home within an hour or so and get ready. She has to shower first so when her wife gets home, she'll be able to shower immediately.

"Okay sorry sorry. I'm just emotional from all that's happening. Let's go?"

As they were on their way home, Mina saw the house again by the beach and saw Momo (??) going in with the same woman as before. She'll have to talk to Momo about this, but not tonight though. Honestly, she didn't think she'll ever bring this up to her.

She's just scared of what Momo will answer.
