Chapter 8

“I gotta say, that was one hell of a fight"

Izumi was sprawled on the ground, laying in a growing pool of her  own blood. Her sleeves and bandages were completely gone, leaving her exposed bleeding arms; her right arm covered in pieces of brains and skull fragments. Next to her was Kasaka's crushed skull, it’s massive body now limp, with the faint slash marks of The Dragon’s Wrath scattered across it.

Izumi pulled herself up, doing her best to ignore how exhausted she was. She slowly got to feet, using one of the pillars as support. Her body felt as heavy as lead, but she somehow found the strength to move.

“Open Player stats" her User screen opened up, showing her stats:

A pouch containing the refined venom of Kasaka. Drinking will give you toughened skin, but the venom will also damage your muscles.

Izumi examined the blade, marvelling at its craft. “Amazing, my first weapon from a Dungeon monster. This will do until I can tame the Dragon’s Wrath” She placed the Fang into her Inventory, before accepting the Venom Pouch as a reward “But I think I’ll keep you in the Inventory for now”

Item: Skill Rune: Speed: Movement speed increases by 30%. Costs 1 Mana per minute.

She looked at the Rune in her hand, realizing it was the same skill Kasaka had used against her. She squeezed the Rune, and watching as the magic energy surrounded her, a powerful feeling filled her body. She had acquired her first Skill. And with that, she decided to see what the final reward was.

Item: Quirk Rune: Serpent King: A Mutation Quirk, that grants the user the physical traits of Venom Fanged Kasaka. User possesses an increase in Muscle quality heightened speed. User’s skin is extremely tough, reducing all damage by 15%.

“A Quirk Rune? But, how? I get that I got Kasaka’s Speed Skill, but taking on it’s other traits? Through another Quirk?” Izumi was shocked to say the least. Why had the System provided her with this? Was it part of making her stronger? That made the most sense. And there was only one way to find out what it did. Izumi’s hand tightened around the Rune, causing it to shatter in her grip. A wave of dark blue energy surrounded her

The energy flowed into her, and Izumi immediately felt her body begin to change. Her muscles began to feel like they were tighter and denser, but not in an uncomfortable way. Her skin felt stronger, with scale patterns forming along it. As her skin toughened, the wounds on her body closed; not healed, but at least she wasn’t bleeding.

Izumi marvelled at the change, unable to find words to describe what it felt like.

[Notice: Dungeon will now return to it’s original state]

The world fell apart and put itself back together in the span of a few seconds, and Izumi found herself in the abandoned susubway.

Izumi reached into her Inventory and pulled out her phone, and was the time showed it was 6PM.

“Oh. Shit I’ve been here a while. I should get home. I feel like I could sleep for a month after today. Wait, which was is the exit?”

I  took Izumi 10 minutes to find her way out, and she took a long deep breath of cold crisp air. Finally, she could relax-

“ROAR!!!!”

“Fuck you God"

Izumi looked up, to see a giant monster, made of jagged rock, magic connecting it’s Limbs to its main body. It started down at Izumi, fist raised to crush her.

It didn’t get the chance.

As it’s fist came down, Izumi launched into the air, and struck the monster’s face with a powerful punch, her fist passing straight through and exploding it’s head. Izumi landed behind the monster, which fell the ground like a puppet with its strings cut.

Izumi looked at her handiwork, and then at her hand, which showed no signs of damage “Nice, not even scratch. And it only took one hit to take that guy out”

“But if there’s a monster here, that means there must have been a Dungeon break while I was in the Instance Dungeon” she looked around, seeing a few other monsters corpses along the street “ There could be more monster’s all other the city. I should leave it the Hunters, not I guess it couldn’t hurt to the check. Besides. The Hunters need to focus on the Boss. But I’ll need to be quick, so.....”

[Skill: Speed Activated]

Izumi took off, racing through the streets, her daggers in hand “let’s do this!”

“Hey guys, its the Boss monster!”

A group of Hunters ran down the street, and found the corpse of the D-Rank Boss that had escaped during the Dungeon Break. And now, it’s head was completely destroyed.

It would have taken at least a top class  D-or C Rank Hunter to beat a monster like this so easily. Who ever did this, they were undoubtedly very strong.
