Whiplash
The next morning Dahyun went to grab some coffee and breakfast for Mina. when she came back Mina was dressed in her CEO outfit in a very heated call with someone.
“What are you doing? You should be resting. The doctor has not discharged you yet.”
“I’m feeling better. Thank you for the coffee. Let's go.”
Mina replies, taking the coffee that was not meant for her from Dahyun’s hands and walks out of the room.
Dahyun caught up to her, still trying to discuss the situation with her but it was useless.
Once they got to the car Dahyun stopped them on their tracks when she noticed some suspicious people walking away from Mina’s car.
Dahyun signaled for Mina to stay put as she went to check around for anything out of the ordinary. Checking every nook and cranny around the car and Mina knew that it was for her safety but Dahyun was taking it over the top with her security sweep.
“Do you want to bring the bomb squad while you are at it.”
“Do you have their phone number?”
“Here.”Mina ignored the question and just handed her the keys.
“What?”
“Turn the engine on to make sure there is no bomb.”
“What I’m not why why me? I…we should call the bomb squad people”
Mina tried as much to hide her amusement at this situation using her wound as an excuse
“Because you are my bodyguard it’s in your job description and I’m hurt, remember.” Mina held her shoulder as if she was in pain.
Dahyun tried to wrap her head around what was happening and she knew this was ridiculous but she couldn’t help thinking that there could be a possibility of it blowing up as soon as she opened the car or turned the engine on. She took a step back as she pressed the unlock button on the key, jumping a little at the beeping of the car.
Mina tried to stifle a laugh at Dahyun who just glared at her as she went to open the door and start the car. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes as she pushed the button once again, visibly calmed after hearing the roaring of the engine.
“See nothing to worry about no bomb.”
Dahyun said in a calm tone as if she hadn’t been sweating buckets just a few seconds ago.
“Hmm alright let’s go.''Mina said, hiding her amusement at the girl as she pushed her to the passenger side and getting in the driver's seat.
“You can’t drive, you were hurt,”Dahyun tried to argue but Mina just smiled as she drove away.
Once they arrived at Minas office it was as if a switch had been flipped. Mina's personality was different, almost cold as she walked to her office, her assistant waiting for her with a stack of papers.
Mina stopped in her tracks and turned to look at Dahyun.
“You can go for now, I’ll call you once I’m finished here.”
Dahyun wanted to retort back but the state she was getting from Mina had no room to argue.
“Call me if you need anything.”Dahyun just bowed and walked away.
She didn’t understand it. She had fought some of the worst monsters out there, had been in plenty of dangerous situations but somehow here is this slightly taller, pretty rich lady and she was almost scared of her right now.
Mina walked into her office, her assistant following behind laying the folders she had been holding on Mina’s desk and after making sure she didn’t need anything else she excused herself.
Mina got to work, she wanted to find the people behind all the treats now more than ever, as it was getting more serious. She was able to get some information from an old friend that was more specialized in hacking and researching the black web. She received a notice from the security system in her home someone had broken in. The system immediately sent out a security team to check it out but they had found nothing out of the normal. This made her worry a bit, whoever this person was had been able to sneak in and out of her house easily, and they could do it again.
It seemed the threats were coming from two different places, one more professional than the other or they had upped their game, whoever this was she needed to find them.
After only getting to dead ends in her search she decided to head home,She did also have to file reports from the break in, but she would just have to make a quick detour.
Dahyun was finally able to get some peace after Chaeyoung had left to grab their dinner. Leaving Dahyun to her work out.
She was going through all the information she had gotten the previous days about the guy that shot Mina, she had also heard from Nayeon that the other guy that had attacked her originally had been found dead in an old abandoned warehouse, the guy had know who she was she noticed the recognition in his face when Mina was trying to get information from him, but now with him dead Dahyun was back to nothing on how all of them connected and why they wanted to hurt Mina. She had also asked Jeongyeon unnie to look into Mina just to be on the safe side even if it made her feel a bit guilty, but once she got the information that guilt was replaced with anger.
She knew that the person trying to harm Mina probably was from one of the big gangs and that meant more trouble,so she had to be more alert.
Dahyun was deep in her thoughts when she heard the footsteps thinking it was Chaeyoung she continued with her work out.
“Hey kid, what,did you go cook the food yourself or what?”
Mina was able to get Dahyun’s address thanks to the background check Jihyo got of the girl and she figured she lived in the vicinity of where they had met,luckily she bumped into Chaeyoung who she guessed was heading towards the direction of Dahyuns apartment.
“Oh hello ms Miyoi”
“Please don't be formal with me, especially outside my office.”
“Right, thanks, how are you doing unnie?”
“I’m better thanks for asking” despite it all Mina couldn’t help the awkwardness around the younger girl.
“ I’m guessing you’re here for Dahyun unnie, would you mind taking this to her? I just remembered I have to go feed the chickens. Her house is just up ahead she should be outside.” The girls shoved a bag into Mina’s hands as she made a run towards the opposite direction.
“Thanks unnie!”
Leaving Mina dumbfounded and totally unprepared for the sight that was about to greet her.
Dahyun was currently working out and her toned abs and back muscles were out on full display as she was doing some sort of inverted sit-ups exercise outside her house and really who would have guessed she was hiding all those muscles behind the baggy shirts and plaid pajamas.
Mina felt like a creep once again for staring but she just couldn’t look away.
“Holy shi- I found Caheyoung outside told me to give you this that she had to do some uh errands.”
Dahyun was definitely not expecting her future boss to be the one standing staring there, causing her to almost make her fall from the equipment she was currently exercising on; fortunately she caught herself and saved her landing.
“Are you stalking me now ms. Miyoi?” She said as she grabbed her water bottle and her towel to wipe the sweat from her face. She couldn’t help the hostility in her voice.
“I-no I your address was on the background check and I wanted to see er to talk to you about the um contact and like I said I bumped into Chaeyoung and she asked me to bring your dinner before she ran away.”
Mina had to take a deep breath after that word vomit.
She really didn’t know what had gotten into her lately. She was always so well composed but Dahyun just seemed to make her lose that composure and she had to admit it was a bit worrisome.
“You could have called, after all you need to get some rest as well.”
Dahyun moved away to grab her jacket and cover her body feeling self conscious about her scar covered body as she could feel Mina’s eyes on her. A shame Mina thought as she kept her eyes on Dahyun’s movements getting caught once she didn’t respond.
Mina had to look away to get some composure and remember why she was there in the first place.
“I prefer to discuss business in person and I didn’t want to rush you on your answer but I kinda have to with everything that happened.”
“I had to stop Jihyo from bombarding you with calls since she’s the one pushing to hire someone.”
Dahyun kept quite just grabbing the bag of food and sitting on the small table in her patio and started to eat.
Mina was unsure on what to feel as she noticed a shift in Dahyun’s attitude towards her.
“There has been an addition…Jihyo made to the contract that I want to mention before I get your final answer.”
Again no answer, just slurping sounds from the girl.
“You would um you would have to stay at my place for now, and we would have to start the uh training there too.”
That made the slurping stop and got Dahyun to finally look at her.
“ I what now?”
“Of course the compensation would go up”
“So me being around you all day at all times is not enough now?what do you need protection from at home?” Dahyun retorted “ shouldn’t you have some fancy security team there and like cameras with like lasers and stuff”
Mina felt like she did something wrong but wasn’t sure what,she didn’t like the way Dahyun was reacting right now. Maybe she had overstepped by dropping by unannounced or maybe the staring made her uncomfortable. She didn’t know but she could feel the bite on Dahyun’s words.
Dahyun wasn’t sure why she was being this way towards the older girl after all she wasn’t sure if what she found out about Mina’s family was right or if Mina was even aware of it. The CEO probably didn’t deserve Dahyun’s attitude right now but she couldn’t help it. She knew Mina would be the answer to all her questions so she could use this to her advantage to find the truth. But she needed to cut back on her attitude if she wanted this to work.
“I'm sorry. when would you want me to start?”
Mina kept getting taken aback. It's like switches kept going on and off on Dahyun’s head going from hot to cold nonetheless she gave her a sheepish response.
“Tonight? I have an extra copy of the contract that you can sign and we can make it effective right now”
Dahyun really wanted more time to prepare but she guessed the sooner she started with this the sooner she could be done with it and away from Miyoi Mina.
“Where do I sign?”
Mina scrambled to get the copies of the new contract out of her bag glad Dahyun agreed, truth be told she was a bit scared to go back home by herself and she didn’t want to bother her friends she also didn’t want to be by herself with some random man from the security team, Dahyun was the best choice.
Although she had to remind herself to let Jihyo know about the change she made to the contract in case Dahyun asked her.
After signing the contracts Dahyun finished her food and went inside her house to prepare a small bag and sent the kid a text message to water the plants and take care of her house and of course no funny business while she was out and that she would explain later.
Soon she was on the passengers side of Mina’s car as said girl drove them in the direction of her place. With both girls being a nervous mess for different reasons but still a mess.
