Chapter 12
“Poet! Let’s go!” King called out, Soldier running ahead, shooting concerned glances over his shoulder. Poet had been burned by a flaming trash of a human being. Endeavor had crashed into where they were fighting some drug dealers. They had everything almost handled when he came around the corner and shot a large, blazing fireball, right at Poet who was about to side kick a man in the torso to get him away. It hit Poet and the male head on, burning them both badly.
It had been months since Soldier had last gotten injured by the man with the bull quirk, a small scar still sits on his shoulder. Ōkoku was old enough to stay at the compound while all three patrol and be okay.
Poet was slowing down, the adrenaline slowly leaving his system as pain took over. His breath is jaded and he’s stumbling. Endeavor is catching up quick and looks to be reading another blast. King quickly turns around, activating his quick and flying forward, explosions propelling him fast enough. He grabs Poet and has him climb on his back, legs around his waist and arms around his neck, holding tight. “Soldier, just go! We’ll catch up!” King calls out, seeing as Soldier had paused, watching King grab Poet. He looks hesitant before he nods, running ahead, faster than he was with the others. Using explosions, King propels Poet and himself forward, fast, trying to lose Endeavor’s trail. Poet held loosely on, enough to stay on, but not enough to agitate his wounds. His breath was still labored and pained.
“K-King…” Poet whimpered, voice watery and strained.
“We’re getting away, Poet. You stay the fuck awake alright? It’s not fucking nap time.”
“M’kay…” He mumbles, resting his head against King’s shoulder, straining to keep his eyes open. Endeavors footsteps pound against the ground, his voice booming, yelling curses and telling them to stop. Soldier is long gone, disappeared between the tall buildings. A large fire ball is shot forward, King barely has time to dodge, ducking down and falls off the edge of a building, landing a bit rough, the explosions weaken the landing. The fireball flies overhead, landing mere feet in front of them. The heat makes King sweat more, powering his quirk more.
King's wrist is slowly starting to strain with how much he’s using his quirk, the constant burst of energy and heat in his palms. Ducking between buildings, the two hide around corners and walls, Endeavor’s footsteps get louder and louder as he gets closer. Both their breath is ragged, Poet holding a hand over his mouth to silence his moans of pain. Hiding in a dark corner, King lets Poet stand behind him, leaning onto each other for support. Their dark clothing masking their presence as the flame hero marches past, an angry scowl across his face. His flames burn hot, almost blue at the bottom where their start.
Once the hero has gone away, King and Poet slowly leave the corner, keeping watch of the hero’s slowly disappearing frame. Poet is sluggish and panting heavy. He’s blinking often and his eyes are glazed, the burns are an angry red, the skin darkened and charred in places, other places bleeding sluggishly and he’s limping. Soon enough they are far away from Endeavor, Poet is still moving slow. “Poet! King!” They hear, their heads shooting forward, seeing two figures quickly approaching.
Soldier and Eraserhead.
King rushes forward, but hesitates. He turns to look at Poet, who is starting to sway and blink more often. The glaze in his eyes is worse and he’s more unforced. “Ki--” he starts, but his voice trails, his eyes roll back in his head as he falls backwards. His form is limp as he falls, King doesn’t get to him in time to catch him.
“Poet!” Both King and Soldier cry out as Poet lands harshly on the ground, blood slowly pooling around his form. King rushed to him, being the closest, and had his hands hovering over him, unsure. Soldier gets their next, standing behind King watching them both, panic ridden his form. Eraserhead gets their next, crouched in front of King, opposite side of King.
Poet is out, completely unresponsive to the others' efforts. Eraserhead is quick to pull out his phone, dialing Recovery Girl, keeping his eyes on the Kingdom Trio. King’s breath is picking up fast, his hands are shaking and red from his quirk and the panic of Poets health, Soldier is not much better. His eyes widen and fear is clear in his red eyes. Eraserhead has the phone tucked between his shoulder and ear, voicing what’s happening to Recovery Girl. His voice is steady, laded with urgency and calm. Reaching forward, he grabs right hand, making him pause his shaking. King flinches and looks to Eraserhead who just squeezes his hand tight, a grounding hold. Recovery Girl hands up, King only catching the “See you soon.” from the end of the call.
“Recovery Girl is on the way here. She will help him.” Eraserhead says, tightening his hold on King’s hand, ignoring the strong warmth coming from his hand. Soldier comes and sits next to King, hands fisting the fabric of his pants till his knuckles are white. Eraserhead reaches out his other hand pulling it from the fabric and making him squeeze his hand. Eraserhead notes the skin is rough and jagged, almost like a rock. “Let’s get you three off the roof so she can heal him better and get you two to safety. I’m guessing Endeavor is still nearby?” He questions.
“Y-Yea… Poet and I-I just got away from him…” King stutters, his breath few and far between.
“Okay, let’s get to the ground. I need you guys to keep calm. I know you are scared about Poet but what he needs is for you guys to be calm. He will be okay.” Eraserhead stresses, giving each boy a hard squeeze of the hand. Soldier swallows harshly, nodding slightly and taking a steadying breath. King just nods once, pulling his hand away and tucking his thumbs under his fingers, closing tight til the knuckle pops.
“H-How are we getting him down…?” Soldier asks, pulling his hand away next and looking to Eraserhead.
“I’m gonna gently wrap him in my captured scarf and take him down. I trust you two can get down by yourselves? Unless you guys are injured as well?” Eraserhead gets two head shakes in response and he nods back, unraveling his captured scarf from his neck and gently wraps it around Poets limp form. He groans and moans softly in protest, his face scrunched in pain, even unconscious. King and Soldier stand quickly and go to the side of the building, going down a gutter pipe as Eraserhead secures Poet in the captured scarf and gets down himself.
Getting to the ground, Eraserhead sets Poet down gently on the sideward, King and Poet have laid down their jackets on the floor, leaving them in tank tops. Their arms and exposed torsos are littered in scars and bruises. Their frames are small, two small to be seasoned Vigilante’s. Eraserhead struggles to not let his goggled gaze linger too much.
Once Poet is down, Eraserhead looks around, seeing a black Nissan SUV rounding the corner, slowing down right in front of them. Out rushes Recovery Girl and Detective Tsukauchi. Recovery Girl's eyes immediately locked onto Poet, Rushing next to him and slowly removing the burn clothing, some melted onto the burn itself. She hisses softly and inspects it. “We need to get him to my office at UA, I’ll have the correct things to help him. Help me get him in the car.” She orders Eraserhead, gently cupping his head in her hands and they slowly move him to the back seat of the SUV.
King and Soldier are tense, watching every move Recovery Girl, Eraserhead, and Detective Tsukauchi make. They get Poet inside securely and Recovery Girl looks at the other two, “Are you two dears injured at all?” She asks, eyeing the two.
“We’re fine ma’am” Soldier answers, squeezing King's hand.
“Well alright. I would still like to look at you two, but that can wait till we get to UA. Let’s go.” She says after a minute of looking over them, motioning for the two to get in the car. King and Soldier share a glance before getting into the car. Eraserhead gets in as well, in the passenger seat. Recovery Girl is seated in the back seat, pulling a gauze patch from her coat jacket and starts bandaging some small cuts the litter Poets form. Detective Tsukauchi is in the driver's seat, starting the engine and driving to UA.
They drive past Endeavors angered form as he continues to stalk the area, looking around for the Trio. King and Soldier notice him and freeze, watching his faded form fade in the distance as they get closer and closer to UA. The near empty streets make for a quick arrival to UA, and they make quick work of getting Poet of the Car and onto Med-Bots carrying a gurney that Recovery Girl have called. Standing near the entrance is also the Principle of UA, Principal Nedzu. King and Soldier completely ignore him as they rush to follow Recovery Girl and Poet on their way to the Nurses office.
“Please be okay Poet…” They both think as they leave Eraserhead and Detective Tsukauchi with the principle.
