Lights
The entire school was bustling with excitement.
It was that time of the year again where Kimetsu no Academy was being decorated for the upcoming holiday, students and teachers alike discussing their plans, and the scent of delicious sweets coming from the baking club fill the hallways for the month as they try out recipes from the western countries.
One of the baking club's more respected members stepped out of the room while taking off her butterfly apron that matched the blue hairpins in her pigtails. Despite her cute appearance though there was a serious look on her face as she starts dodging her peers, her teachers and any swinging decor.
She only had one person she wanted to see after such a long busy day and when she spots her, it's like the world lit up all around the hallway.
"Kanao!"
The girl with the side pony looked up as she was holding christmas lights in her hands. Her violet eyes give a soft shimmer before she smiles softly.
"Hello Aoi," she said gently, smiling when the other hugged her, "How was club today? You look a bit stressed."
Aoi groaned dramatically as she pushed her face more into Kanao's shoulder, "I'm going to kill Inosuke..."
"Oh?" Kanao carefully untangled the lights while Aoi was still in her arms while one of their teachers was pinning them up while waiting, "What did he do today, Aoi?"
"What didn't he do!?"
Kanao reached up and she very gently patted Aoi's head to comfort her, dropping some of the string lights. She had a feeling Inosuke was in rare form today since he tended to only act like a wild man whenever it came to the holidays. Perhaps he was genuinely excited and it just turned into chaotic energy.
She waited quietly for Aoi to tell her exactly for their friend did today.
"I was practicing making a ginger bread display for the display case, you know for something fun and new instead of the damn same old popsicle stick trees. I turn around to go get my royal icing ready to start building and when I return almost all of my gingerbread people and pieces had bitemarks in them. You know who had just happened to show up then? Hmm hmm?" Aoi pulled back to look Kanao directly in the eyes, "I find Inosuke with crumbs on his stupid loud mouth!"
Kanao nodded along as she twirls one of the pigtails in her fingers as she tilts her head, "I see..so Inosuke was being a bit of a piggy."
Aoi opened her mouth before she paused at what her girlfriend if four months just said. Then she snorted and covered her mouth while shaking her head.
Inosuke made it no secret that he was a wild boy from the wild mountains before he was taken in. He could be a very wild and unpredictable young man with a need to prove himself to everyone else while also tending to put his foot in his mouth. For some reason though he could never help himself when it came to Aoi's baking. Not that Kanao could blame him since it was always so delicious, even if Aoi was making it for display purposes and not edible ones.
"God Kanao, that was bad..." Aoi laughs softly.
No matter how many times she laughed for her, Kanao found herself blushing softly.
However as the two girls had been caught up in their own little conversation, they were both abruptly interrupted by a loud shout.
"HASHIBIRA GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT!"
Aoi and Kanao blink when they hear their mathematics teacher cursing alongside the sound of thundering footsteps that only grew louder and louder and louder until—
"AAAAH!" Inosuke pivoted down the hall, holding his open bento box as he ran, "BIG SIS KANZAKI!"
Aoi's eye twitched at the nickname that the wild boy had dubbed her after only a few months of being in the school together. It wasn't that she minded the nickname she just preferred when it was just the three girls she tended to babysit. Kanao winced as she looked at the two most powerful epitomes of chaos charging for the pair.
"Inosuke no!" Aoi tried to stop him, she really did.
Inosuke grabbed the rest of the string lights as Sanemi made a grab for him. Kanao squeaked as the two started to circle her and Aoi, wrapping the two up in the lights as Inosuke kept trying to get away. The teacher who had been trying to get the lights up almost falls from his ladder.
"Gah! Shinazugawa-san!"
Kanao squeaked as the lights pull her and Aoi closer, blinking a but with wide eyes.
"C'mere you little—!"
"YOU CAN'T CATCH ME OLD MAN! I AM KING OF THE MOUNTAIN!"
Aoi's whole face turned a dark shade of red as her nose lightly pokes Kanao's. Inosuke plugged in the lights before he rushes off cackling as he dodged the textbook aimed for his head by his irate teacher as the rainbow lights blink on and off.
Both girls are completely still as they both process what had just happened.
Like a tea kettle, Aoi was about to blow as she stiffly turned her head in the direction of her teacher and Inosuke even as they were long gone from her sight. She started to growl as a vein popped in her forehead as her eye twitched in that way everyone knew she was at her limit.
However before she could go off, Kanao is now the one hiding her face as she starts to shake.
Aoi blinked and looked at her worriedly, "K...Kanao? Are you okay? Oh I'm so sorry I'll beat Inosuke up for this you mark my words, please don't cry I'll get us out of this..."
She trails off when Kanao pulls back and she is smiling. Her trembling were not from quiet sobs, but from contained laughter. She bot her red bottom lip as she moved closer to Aoi. Aoi slowly smiled in relief as the sight of Kanao laughing like she heard the funniest joke as the lights wrapped tight around them illuminated her face.
As the teacher in the ladder stepped down to start untangling them, Aoi leaned forwards and pecked Kanao's cheek.
Perhaos she was a little too harsh in her anger towards Inosuke.
