Chapter 4

Clarke finally had another day off, she was completely overtired, but the sun was shining and she wanted to enjoy her free time. She quickly went to her car and drove home. There she undressed, creamed herself and picked out a bikini. She put it on and over it her clothes, she didn't like it when she stuck to the seats in the car.

She quickly packed the most necessary utensils in her beach bag and then stowed everything in her car, went back into the house because she had forgotten her purse and cell phone and could then finally drive off.

After only 10min she had arrived. Due to the time of day, there wasn't much going on yet, so she was able to choose a suitable spot. She spread out her towel, took off the clothes she had worn so far and then went in her bikini to one of the many small stores that lined the promenade. For a long time she got herself a cocktail. Back at her place she made herself comfortable under the parasol, stretched out on her deck chair before grabbing her book and started to read.

The sound of the water and the cocktail very quickly led to a feeling of relaxation. Today she didn't have to pay attention to anything, she wasn't on call and allowed herself the time of doing nothing and maybe that of a little buzz.

An hour later, she put the book aside, stretched extensively, and then went into the water. The sun beamed down on her mercilessly and the heat had done its part to make her long for a cool down.

She felt the sand under her toes, the cool wet, which stroked around her feet and already gave her a refreshment. For a short time she sucked in this feeling before she ran into the water with a slight cry of joy and threw herself into it as soon as it was deep enough. One should keep the little joys of life as long as one could.

Not far from her, a smiling brunette beauty looked at the scenery in front of her, but without making herself noticeable.

After what felt like an eternity, Clarke finally emerged from the water. The black bikini flattered her good figure and the water running down her body completed the overall picture. That's when Clarke noticed the lightly tanned woman with brown hair and a few braids in it standing near her, fixing her with green eyes.

"Lexa..." She was embarrassed and wondered what the latter had witnessed, inwardly hoping she hadn't heard her cry of joy. Because of that, and especially because the last meeting had been interesting and had played roller coaster with her emotions, she didn't know how to react to the woman. The latter came closer in her white bikini and smirked slightly, but could hardly hide her uncertainty.

"Hey Clarke." Because neither knew what to do, they stopped in front of each other. They remained silent until the blonde spoke up.

"Do you have a seat yet?" She approached Lexa conciliatorily.

"I just got here and I just threw my stuff somewhere. I love the water and just couldn't take it anymore." A glow had spread across her face that gave the sun a run for its money.

Clarke couldn't help but respond and together they beamed. Lexa sounded so exuberant, so relaxed. Almost childlike, not as serious as the last few times.

"If you like, you can join me." She pointed to her place which lay invitingly in front of them.

The addressed only nodded, got her things and prepared them on the sand.

"Can you enjoy your vacation?"

Lexa lay on her cloth, eyes closed and a renewed grin on her face. She just nodded in response.

"What about you? You're off duty for once today?" asked Lexa, looking up at her.

Now it was Clarke's turn to smile. She spread her arms theatrically, took a deep breath, and stretched toward the sun before falling back into her recliner with the words, thankfully not.

The two women laughed from the bottom of their hearts. The tension had fallen away.

Lexa kept watching Clarke out of the corner of her eye and had to admit to herself how good she looked in that bikini. She could easily wrap any man around her finger.

Clarke did the same to Lexa and watched her at least as furtively. He saw her trained belly, her slim legs and couldn't help but admire the young woman. So young and already so successful, although it seemed she hadn't always had it easy, no matter how well she tried to cover it up. Every fiber of her body radiated pride and self-confidence and that made her incredibly attractive.

"Where do you work, anyway?" Lexa broke the silence.

"It's the biggest hospital around here, Arcadia Memorial Hospital. My mom works there in the emergency department."

"You get along well with her, can that be?" A wistful expression crept into the green eyes.

"Yes very much. We don't always see eye to eye by a long shot, yet I can always count on her when it counts. Throughout my studies she has been a great support, studying with me, explaining things I didn't understand, or bringing me a coffee or even something to eat during a study session that once again stretched far into the night." A grateful smile played around her lips.

"What about your sister, by the way? Do you have much contact with her?"

Lexa considered whether and how to answer, but then decided to stick as close to the truth as she could.

"My sister, Anya, and I were always very close, but then I got my first roles and moved away for them while she stayed home. At some point, the frequency of phone calls decreased and the visits dried up. I had less time and she couldn't afford it."

"And that you would have paid for her tickets wasn't an option?" The blonde had such a disarming way about her that she wanted to keep talking, even if she shouldn't.

Lexa gasped. "I kept offering her that but she always refused. Her pride wouldn't let her. She had always looked out for me and now her little sister was going to take over? She couldn't. She did not understand that I wanted to do it out of love and gratitude, but she did not let me talk to her. She can be such a stubborn person sometimes." Unable to hide the rising sadness, as well as the love she felt for her sister, Clarke nodded in understanding and placed a hand on hers, which she squeezed lightly. Without words they had spoken what was so important.

"Are you coming in the water?" Surprised, two blue eyes looked up to meet bright green ones.

"Sure." Clarke jumped up and Lexa, laughing, followed. The latter finally caught up with them at the water's edge, wrapped her arms around Clarke and threw her in. She came back up, snorting, with Lexa standing above her, laughing. A mischievous grin appeared on the blonde's face before she grabbed the still laughing brunette and pulled her to her. Both were fooling around in the water like little kids until Clarke finally said she would be right back and left. She left the other perplexed. What would come now? A few minutes later she came back with a double inflated partner couch and swam towards Lexa. She lay down on it and Clarke right next to her. "What a great idea." She merely smiled in response.

The sun had reached its highest point and the beach and water were filling up with more and more people. People were milling about and buzzing around them like flies. "Let's go further out. It's getting too crowded here." Lexa jumped into the water and pushed the lounger further out with Clarke still on top of her. Now when the brunette tried to get back on, the chaise along with Clarke and Lexa spun around and both landed back in the water. Amused, Clarke looked at her as she emerged from the water again.

"Maybe you should go back up first and I'll follow. Otherwise, I don't think it's going to work."

Lexa splashed her in response and climbed up, only to land back in the water at the same moment. "Hey." Clarke nearly sank laughing. "So, now we're even," and got back a played evil look. All that did was make Clarke laugh even louder and finally help her up. As they both lay side by side, Lexa suddenly looked at her very seriously. "I feel very comfortable with you right now."

The wind picked up, the waves no longer gently lapped the beach, but grew stronger with each passing minute. The two women made it back to their places just in time before the rain pelted them with icy cold and the wind had turned into a storm. They could barely see a few meters away, so they quickly gathered everything together and Clarke grabbed Lexa's hand. She was almost stunned but Clarke pulled her to her car. Even when they were sitting in it and the blonde had long since let go of her hand, she still felt the touch, what to do with the feeling the touch had triggered, she didn't know.

"I'll drive you home. It would be far too dangerous to walk now."

The addressed didn't say much, all the more played in her mind. When was the last time someone had cared about her? It was a new, a good feeling, it warmed her heart and she stopped shivering. Arriving in front of the hotel, the two women said goodbye with a hug before Lexa got out of the car and quickly ran to the entrance.
