Summary
It was at the crack of dawn she would usually wake. Early enough to scrutinize her roommate. Never too late to stop her from falling.
Note
hi. I didn't know what to do, been feeling a bit down lately. Sucks I don't have anyone to talk to. my friends are busy and I don't wanna be a burden but I also don't wanna lose all my progress on bettering myself. so I guess writing it is. i wanted this to have Wednesday second guess herself if she was worthy of Enid but I guess that would hit too close to home. a short fluffy fic? yeah, hope it made someone feel a bit better like me. continue living, folks.

One day.

It had been a day since she came to the realization that she had foolishly fallen for her roommate. The embodiment of a rainbow, optimism, and everything pure in this world. Her exact opposite. Wednesday Addams swore off love in front of her mother's knowing gaze yet the thrumming in her chest, the shortness of breath by close proximity of the werewolf and the longing - oh, the longing when she couldn't catch even a glance of her during the day. It was terrible. It was terrifying.

To love is to accept death wholeheartedly - not by a raging beast although that wasn't a far off comparison. It was slow and torturous, killing off and suffocating the mind and body each day. To love is to put yourself in an open space where anyone can see and use it to their greedy deeds.

To love is to be weak. Weak for another creature.

She opened her eyes as the familiar body clock of hers sensed the approaching dawn. She always woke up before the bubbly girl. During her first week she spent it scrutinizing the werewolf. How such a beast feared by both supernatural and human could be so colorful, happy and open. Nevermind Enid couldn't shift yet. Her claws were a force to be acknowledged. It could easily tear a man's face in pieces. That thought sent a surprisingly pleasant thrill up her spine. Forcing her thoughts to behave, she got up to once again look - scrutinize, stupid brain - at her roommate. She heard the faintest of growls and snores and almost rolled her eyes. Almost. She scoffed, had her body really gone slack in just a few weeks? That simply won't do.

She got off her bed and made her way to the bathroom to prepare for the day's classes. She had a meeting with Eugene just after lunch for the upcoming harvest. She took a glance at her reflection in the mirror and decidedly ignoring the way her eyes have gone softer.

"Wednesday!"

Enid Sinclair was a walking mystery. She loved all things colorful, yes. She loved to blast that monstrosity she called music almost every day, certainly. She cried at movies, at romantic and comedies, no surprise. She loved to love people, unfortunately so.

Yet, she added more black and white whenever she gave something to Wednesday. She had changed her music to include Wednesday's preferred tunes, despite the scrunch in her nose. She went through a black and white horror film when Wednesday had been a bit more upset than usual.

She hated Wednesday when she left for the door, to room with that wretched vampire.

Wednesday wanted to stab someone - preferably a smug vampire but then the problem would get worse. Not that Enid being upset at her and possibly hating her is a problem. No, the problem was the damn monster who was killing people and making Wednesday look like a fool. That was the problem. Not the fear slowly creeping into her as she sat dumbfounded, staring at the door Enid had stormed out. Not the crippling, antagonizing something that felt like claws digging into her heart. No, definitely not that. She was Wednesday Addams. She didn't get hurt.

Yet, she was Enid Sinclair. And that's enough to damn all those mentioned.

She lowered her head into her knees as she felt her body slightly heating up. She trembled and felt the burning in her throat. Wednesday Addams never cried again when she had buried her pet scorpion.

But she mourned. She mourned for something she had lost.

"Wednesday," Enid had looked bloody and messy and she was pulling her back in. She was alive - they were alive. Her sore muscles had suddenly felt light, the throbbing where the arrow had pierced had gone numb and the ache in her chest has settled. Enid was safe. She was alive, clinging on to her as if a lifeline. As if she hadn't realized that Wednesday would have burned the world for her. To run off and kill the damn Hyde and woman who threatened all she had learned to care and see as family.

Enid Sinclair was the sun - warm, gleeful and alive. Wednesday Addams would burn for her, like hell's fire on earth - letting everything fall into ashes if it meant it would keep her warm.

"Wednesday?!"

It was three months since the incident happened. Three months since she started falling deeper for her bubbly friend. Best friend, according to Enid. Wednesday watched her like a raven, making sure to harden her glare a tad bit when someone was getting too close to her wolf. So far, she only had to stop herself murdering five people. Which should be an accomplishment, she told Thing one night when Enid was out.

'youre a bloody idiot' he had said. Well, guess who's the idiot in the drawer now.

Enid seemed oblivious to the stares she was getting which both infuriated and calmed Wednesday. Infuriated because these morons do not deserve Enid in the slightest. Calm became she had Enid to herself, though she was merely a friend. How repulsive. She'd have to do something before any of this buffoons do anything about getting close to her wolf.

Apparently, she wasn't being that subtle. Then again, could you blame her for stabbing a student with a pencil because his eyes were looking at the blonde in a way Wednesday did not approve? Thing said she was a chicken, Weems who had miraculously survived just gave her a deadpan stare and, "Just ask her out as you would normally, Miss Addams. Or as normal as the Addams do. Jesus, Morticia wasn't this nervous when she popped that question."

What?

"What?"

"What?"

Her mother had been more than amused as she mentioned her history with her now -if-she-had-to-choose most tolerable authority figure.

With a scarring conversation (her father mentioning he wouldn't mind his wife rekindling that romance with her principal) and some pushing from nagging idiots (namely Eugene, Xavier and surprisingly, Bianca) she was on her way to ask Enid on a date. 'If you're not going to do anything about your affections, I won't hesitate to make Enid my fencing partner for the rest of the semester.'

Another brawl almost broke out but Enid picked her up and dragged her away, much to her annoyance and to their friends' (she rather called them nuances) amusement.

So she did. She was standing outside their dorm think if she should knock. Which was ridiculous. Stupid, really. She just did three knocks.

Enid had opened the door, confusion on her face seeing her room mate without blood, being much more rigid than usual - she's learned to read Wednesday better after everything - and Thing no where in sight. "Do you need help hiding a bod-"

"Go out."

"I'll take that as a ye-"

"With me."

"..."

An exhale, "Go out with me, on a date."

"Oh...."

"...."

"So, like hiding the body is the date- hmpph!"

She chalked it up to impatience (she never got nervous. Fuck off, Thing) as she grabbed the blonde's tie and pulled her in a for a kiss. It was messy. Their noses bumped and Enid's fang accidentally ripped her lip to which she didn't mind. Their first kiss was messy.

Between Enid's dreamy sigh and Wednesday's quickening heart, they managed to form coherent enough sentences for their date.

"Tonight, 8p.m. Wear something comfortable."

"Yeah, 8 p.m. which is tonight because it has p and m....which means not morning."

Their date had gone well. A trip to Jericho where Wednesday had opted for a more Enid style date. They had dinner at a restaurant that wasn't too bad and had ice cream as dessert. A stroll through the streets before Enid has pulled her towards a cemetery. Wednesday had raised her brows but Enid just grinned.

As their final activity - Enid had asked Thing about Addams's dating rituals - they had a race who could dig up a grave faster. Which ended in dirty clothes, running from the police and kisses. The kisses were definitely the best part.

Five months. It's been five months since they've been dating.

Five months of getting to know her best friend now girlfriend. Yoko had taken the title of best friend, arguing that since Wednesday was her girlfriend she was the best friend. Wednesday merely glared and crossed her arms. Enid had definitely grown on her, she didn't even think of getting her stake.

Her eyes blinked slowly as she got up. It was the first day of University. Away from Nevermore and her parents. Into the big city of New York. She looked around her apartment. It was much more minimalist than her dorm. With black walls making up for the familiar mahogany floors. She was already an adult with a growing career as an author. She'd decided to take up Criminal Law to continue her passion in cracking mysteries and having notes for her next novel. Life was... tolerable. Enough to live.

"Wednesday," Enid had been looking at her. She had spaced out, she realized. Their hands were intertwined. She bit her lip to stop the twitch yet she felt her cheeks color. Enid was looking up at her softly, a small smile gracing her lips. Finally seeming to be done with her little observation, Wednesday met soft blue with her dark brown.

Just enough to brush her lips on her forehead, "Good morning," she softly murmured.
