How it all began
Athena was trying to clean her spear. Key point trying. Usually monsterblood wasn't a problem to wash off, but this time it wasn't exactly working with her.
She grumbled an ancient Greek curse as she frantically wiped her piece of cloth over a bloodstain.
Feelings of pride and joy washed over her, notifying her Nike was approaching.
Nike. The angel that had been occupying all the wisdom goddess' thoughts lately. No matter what she tried, the victory goddess would always pop up again.
Part of Athena was annoyed with it. It made her head all dreamy, which she didn't like. Her focus would be miles away and she wouldn't be able to get anything done.
The other part definitly enjoyed it. The two of them weren't particularly alike or diffrent, but something about Nike made her heart soar.
A cough pulled Athena from her thoughts. She looked over her shoulder to find the victory goddess looking at her with a small smile and a faint golden blush on her cheeks.
"Hi." She said.
"Hi." The wisdom goddess replied, turning around.
"What are you doing?"
The angel leaned a bit to the side so she could see what Athena had been doing. She was quite curious to see what had grasped the goddess' attention.
To be honest Nike was curious about everything Athena did. She could be plowing a field and she'd still be interested.
Not to mention the muscle she'd-
The angel quickly shook her head. No... Not going there... Not now at least...
She looked up when she heard a chuckle. It came from a certain grey eyed goddess in front of her.
Athena took a step to the side so Nike could see the golden spear laying on the workbench.
"I was trying to clean my spear, but it isn't really working with me today." She explained.
"I don't know what those monsters were made of, but whatever it is doesn't want to come off."
"So the day finally comes? Athena who doesn't know something about a monster. Mnemosyne better remember that." Nike joked.
The daughter of Zeus rolled her eyes but smiled. A gesture she found she did a lot around Nike.
If anyone else had said it Athena would've been annoyed, but Nike? She could practically say whatever she wanted and the wisdom goddess wouldn't even be bothered.
"Is there something I can help you with or are you just here to make fun of me?" The daughter of Zeus asked.
"Well, although it wasn't my intention I feel like the latter will do just fine." The angel replied with a smile.
Athena shook her head and gave the her a playful push.
In truth Nike was here because she wanted to ask Athena something. They'd been spending a lot of time together lately. Outside of the training arena and off the battlefield that is.
And the victory goddess simply loved it. She noticed Athena did too. She smiled more and she shared a lot more with Nike than she did before. They'd gotten so close in such a short period of time.
Last time they spend their time at lake Triton. A wonderful place Athena loved a lot. Together they had watched the sun sink into the lake. In the light of the last sunbeam they had kissed.
Now Nike wanted to know what that kiss had meant to Athena. And if it actually meant something valuable what she wanted to do with it.
Nike took a deep breath. Better to get this over with.
"No actually I wanted to talk with you." The angel said.
She tried to keep her voice from shaking, but she had no idea if she succeeded.
"Yeah sure. You want to go for a walk or just stay here?" Athena offered.
Somehow the wisdom goddess always seemed to know exactly what Nike needed.
"A walk sounds great." The victory goddess replied.
Athena nodded. After putting her spear away she joined Nike as they walked across the field and entered the forest.
The daughter of Zeus could feel the angel was anxious. She was fiddling with the leather cord that kept her robes together.
For a split second the thought of the things she would see if the cord would be pulled out of it's knot crossed Athena's mind.
Then she shook her head. No, no, no. Not now. She should at least try to keep her thoughts decent in the angel's prescense.
"So uh... You wanted to talk right?" The wisdom goddess cleared her throat as her eyes wandered over the trees around her.
"Uh... Yes. If you don't mind of course."
"Would I be here if I did?"
Nike could smash her head into a tree right now. Of course she didn't mind.
"Right... So uh, the other day we were at the lake right?" The angel asked.
"Yes we were." The wisdom goddess replied.
"And we were watching the sunset?" Nike continued.
Athena nodded in confirmation. Her mind wandered back to that beautiful moment for a second. The moment she found out just how sweet victory actually tastes.
"And uhm... You uh... You kissed me..." The victory goddess looked down and blushed a deep gold.
The grey eyed goddess couldn't help but smile at the sight in front of her. It was simply adorable.
"I remember doing that yes." Athena muzed.
"So uh... Did... Did you mean it?" The angel stuttered, still looking at the ground beneath her feet.
"Mean what?"
"The kiss."
"Oh... Uh... Yes. Yes I did."
Now it was the wisdom goddess' turn to look down and blush. The ground really must have something special going on if two goddesses are so interested in it.
"Really?" Nike asked, looking up just far enough to see Athena's reaction.
The latter just nodded. All words seemed to have gotten lost in her throat.
For a moment silence draped itself over both goddesses. The only thing heard was the sound of their boots snapping twigs and the bristling of their robes as they walked over the forest trail.
"So uhm... Now what?" The victory goddess asked, breaking the silence.
"I don't know. What do you think?" Athena asked.
"What do I think or what do I want?" Nike retorted.
"Both actually." The wisdom goddess replied.
"Well... To be honest. I want this. You and me. But I think it might be rather impossible if anyone finds out..."
"Why is that?"
"Really Athena? You're the goddess of strategic warfare. I'm the goddess of victory. How fair do you think that is?" Nike raised a brow at the woman next to her.
"I see your point. But that is assumed anyone would find out... Right?" The wisdom goddess put a hand on her chin.
A gesture the angel recognized as a sign the wisdom goddess was coming up with a plan. Probably a brilliant plan too.
"You and I both know we can't hide this forever."
"We don't have to hide it forever. Just a couple of decades and that's it. If I don't win more than usual they have no arguments as to why we couldn't be together."
"They're gods darling, there's always an argument to be found." Nike said.
"Well then they haven't met me yet." Athena smirked.
"Probably. But Athena, what do you want?" The victory goddess asked.
"Wasn't it obvious when I kissed you? I want to be with you. I want to share every moment with you, good and bad. I want-"
The wisdom goddess was cut off when Nike stopped her, stood on the tips of her toes and kissed her.
"So we're doing this?"
"I guess we are."
The goddesses smiled at each other. With a smirk the angel pulled the daughter of Zeus down and kissed her again.
