Things were different.
They were the same, but they were different.
After the break, everyone returned to Nevermore. Enid was as cheery and colourful as ever, but she now had two scars placed on her face, one on her forehead, one below her eye. Bianca was as sassy as ever, but stopped being as cruel to people. Yoko was still as nonchalant and Divina-loving as she was months ago, but had new sunglasses (her old ones were destroyed in the Battle of Crackstone). Ajax was still a dumbass, but he took people more seriously now. Xavier was as closed off as ever, but took the time to let everyone know they could come to him if needed.
But Wednesday? Wednesday stayed the same.
Still threw death threats at everyone who even 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘥 at her a certain way, still had her hair in those two tight plaits no one except her family had seen her without, still spoke like a Victorian ghost child.
Though, there was...𝘰𝘯𝘦 thing that felt a bit different about Wednesday Addams.
The spiders that crawled around in her stomach every time she came into contact with her roomate and (she reluctantly admits this) best friend, Enid Sinclair. Ever since the two shared a hug (Wednesday still denies this happens, despite the literal 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 witnesses), Wednesday couldn't even have a simple conversation with the wolf without stumbling over her words or blushing like some love-sick simpleton.
At first she thought that maybe she'd developed some type of speech impediment from the numerous head traumas she'd gotten that night but, alas, she was wrong. Wednesday Addams had once whole-heartedly believed that her family's curse had skipped her, but she was wrong. Sweet Satan, she was 𝘴𝘰 wrong.
However, the raven never acted on this. Why would she? So Enid could sit in her bed everynight thinking and thinking about what she did so wrong to have a self-absorbed monster like Wednesday Addams love her, instead of chasing after her better option that was Ajax Pretopulous? No. No, Wednesday would just suffer in silence and let Enid believe that she never loved her.
Really and truly Wednesday hated herself for feeling like this. What she said to Tyler hadn't been wrong, she wasn't even 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥 material, much less 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥 material. She'd proven that fair and square by falsely accusing Xavier and having him sent to jail, and by risking not only Enid's life, but also 90% of Nevermore's population by association. Enid was kind, warm and sweet, and she deserved someone better. Someone like Ajax. Yes, the gorgon was a simpleton with the majority of his braincells fried due to the amount of cannabis he intook on a day-to-day basis, but that didn't erase the fact that he was a good man. He was 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥, and 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨. Everything that Wednesday wasn't.
Wednesday knew she would never stop loving Enid. Thanks to the ancient Addams family curse, that was inevitable. But she made a vowe to herself she would never act on it, that she wouldn't do that to Enid.
But as I'm sure you know, Wednesday Addams had never been good at keeping vowes to herself.
--------
It was a regular day. Saturday, to be exact, so no classes. Which was great for Wednesday as it meant she had more time to work on her novel. But alas, the universe had other plans in mind.
Enid skipped back into the dorm with a smiley expression after "hanging out" (which Wednesday was 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 was code for making out) with Ajax, soon sitting down on her bed and, to no surprise, pulling out her phone. Wednesday did not once look up from her typewriter, but was sure Enid was messaging Yoko about how "𝘴𝘰 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘫𝘢𝘹 𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵."
Enid huffed, sitting up and glancing at Wednesday. "Howdy to you too, Wends."
She still did not look away from her typewriter. "I thought we discussed why you are to never call me that again."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, because nicknames are gross and disgusting and should've never been invented, whatever, whatever." Enid mocked the goth, grinning to herself. "You know, Emily Dickinson even used pet names. You can recite all her poems by heart, so I'm sure you're aware of that."
"Yes, well, it was acceptable in her case. She used them towards her lover. Last time I was made aware, Enid, you and I are not lovers."
Enid blushed deeply at that comment. 𝘚𝘯𝘢𝘱 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘪𝘵, 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘳. She thought to herself. 𝘞𝘦𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶. "Hm. Guess you're right." she hummed, composing herself before walking over to Wednesday and standing behind her. "Uh...what'cha working on?" she asked dumbly, trying to change the conversation immediately.
Wednesday nearly rolled her eyes. "My novel, Sinclair, what else?"
"No need for the attitude, Addams." she quipped back. "Who knows, maybe you decided to started walking in the steps of good ol' Em and started writing poems to your secret lover."
Enid felt to punch herself. How could a person be so stupid.
Wednesday quirked her eyebrow, finally looking away from the typewriter to look at Enid. "And what has lead you to believe I would ever dabble in something as foolish as a secret lover?"
Enid genuinely felt to punch herself. She walked back towards her bed, fiddling with the end of her jumper. "Uh...no reason! Was just a joke, Wens, jeez, lighten up a little would ya?"
Wednesday stood up, walking towards to the blonde. Enid gulped. She wasn't scared of Wednesday, but that wasn't to say she didn't find the shorter girl...slightly intimidating at times.
"No, clearly something prompted that comment, and it was also not a joke." Wednesday stated. "When you're joking, your lip quirks up on the left side of your face. No such movement happened."
"Analysing me, are we, Addams?" Enid joked, her lip indeed quirking up
"See?" Wednesday nearly smiled. "Told you so."
A moment of silence ensued and Wednesday did not move from her position in front of Enid. "Though..." she trailed off. "While we are um...on the topic of romance, there...there 𝘪𝘴 something I have been meaning to talk to you about."
Enid looked at her, amused. "What, do you actually have a secret lover or something?"
Wednesday's expression did not change. "No. However, I-um...I do have...secret...𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 for a...certain someone. In other words, it seems I have submitted to my family's curse. It's an awful feeling, really."
Enid's whole face lit up, though her chest ached ever so slightly. Wednesday liked someone. Though she was invested in her roomates love life, apart of her stung knowing Wednesday cared for someone aside from her family that wasn't her. Secretly, she did kinda enjoy being Wednesday's favourite person. "Oh! Em! Gee! Are you meaning to tell me that 𝘵𝘩𝘦 Wednesday Addams has a 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘩?"
"I suppose," the goth sighed. "You could...call it that."
Wednesday was slightly convinced Enid was about to have a seizure on the spot from the way she was vibrating.
"Holy crap!" She giggled, standing up in front of Wednesday and jumping up and down. "You 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 to tell me who it is. It'll stay between us, I swear! I mean aside from Thing, but considering he's like your only friend aside from me I'm assuming he already - "
Enid was cut off by the unexpected feeling of a pair of lips colliding against hers. Her brain shut off. Literally. She forgot how to breathe, how to move, how to blink. She just 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘻𝘦.
Wednesday pulled away when she realized her action was not being returned. She frowned slightly, but quickly composed herself. "I..." she was at a loss for words. She had actually just done that. "I...I am so sorry. That was impulsive. That was incredibly out of character. I am so sorry. I- I am so sorry - "
Enid stared at the girl, still frozen. She blinked twice, she was partially convinced she had honestly gone into shock. "I-uh-um-you-I-uh...𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵."
Enid had never felt so many emotions at once. Confusion, regret, love, fear, happiness, frustration, 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯.
"I deeply apologise, that was impulsive of me. I understand if this made you uncomfortable and if you wish to never speak to me again."
Enid shook her head. "It-it"s fine I just...I just-I need time to think, okay? I'm-I'm gonna crash at Yoko's tonight, okay? I-I promise I'm not mad or anything I'm just-I just need time to think."
Wednesday nodded, trying to ignore the tugging feeling in her chest. "Understandable. I will leave you alone until you've collected your thoughts."
Enid nodded back, picking up her nessesities like her phone and laptop and began walking towards the door.
"Um...I-I'm sorry Wednesday."
Once the door had shut, Wednesday instantly felt tears prickle in her eyes.
𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘭, 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬.
-------
Enid paced up and down the halls for about ten minutes before finally pulling out her phone. Shscrolled to the group chat with her, Yoko and Ajax.
"𝘚𝘖𝘚: 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘠𝘰𝘬𝘰'𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘮."
Ajax was there in under two minutes, and Yoko had already prepared them a blanket fort and snacks. The first thing the gorgon and vampire noticed was the tears streaming down the wolf's face, and they instantly brought the shorter girl into a group hug.
"Oh, babe..." Yoko mumbled, running her fingers through the blonde's hair.
"What happened?" Ajax asked, letting the two girls go. The three of them walked into the blanket fort and Enid immediately grabbed a bag of Cheetos; her comfort food.
"You're not gonna believe this but..." Enid breathed in deeply. "Wednesdaymayormaynothavekissedme."
See now, most people wouldn't understand the girl when she spoke at that speed, but her two best friends did, and their jaws reached the damn floor. "Sorry, sorry, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵? Wednesday Addams did 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵?" Yoko stuttered in disbelief.
"That was my reaction!" Enid huffed in exasperation. "I'm just-I'm 𝘴𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥! One minute she's all lovey dovey, hugging me in front of the whole of freaking Nevermore, then the next she's acting like I'm a total stranger and that it never happened! And now she's kissing me? Like, I don't 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘵!"
"Hold up, hold up, hold up." Ajax interrupted, taking a long sip of his Doctor Pepper. "Haven't you had a crush on Wednesday since like, I don't know, forever? Why are you upset about this?"
Yoko slapped the boy in his chest. "Dude, read the room. Wednesday's been giving mixed signals, our girl here isn't upset, she's confused."
"Okay, yeah, no, I get that, but why did you come here and balling and shit?" the gorgon still seemed confused. "Yeah, Wednesday may have given mixed signals, but it's 𝘞𝘦𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘥𝘢𝘺. The girl wouldn't know how to flirt if someone slapped a guide on romance in her face. The girl's a bit cooky, but c'mon, Enid! If she kissed you, she clearly likes you back!"
Enid sighed, resting her face in her hands. "But what if she was just, I don't know, 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥? I mean, she kissed Tyler and I don't think I've heard his name leave her mouth since. Clearly it didn't mean much to her, so what if it's the same with this?"
"Tyler was a homocidal maniac. You can't exactly blame her for not thinking their kiss which, might I add is how she 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵 about said homocidal maniac-ness, was exactly a magical moment." Yoko chimed in.
Enid wanted to punch herself again. Yoko was right, and so was Ajax. Wednesday tried to tell her how she felt and she just walked away like an idiot.
"𝘚𝘩𝘪𝘵."
-------
Xavier and Bianca had been walking to Bianca's dorm when they heard banging and yelling from Enid and Wednesday's dorm. The couple stopped in their tracks at the sound, instantly assuming Wednesday had finally snapped and decided to shut Enid up for good. Bianca and Xavier instantly hurried in the room to see what was causing all the commotion, and was shocked at the sight.
Wednesday Addams was having a 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯.
Many holes in walls on her side of the room, all her clothes had been ripped out from her wardrobe, her bed was a wreck, all her school books were torn apart. The only thing still intact was her desk and typewriter. Xavier opened his mouth to say something, but quickly snapped it shut when Wednesday punched yet another hole in the wall.
Bianca was the first to speak.
"Wednesday..." she spoke slowly, causing the gotht to whip around and nearly die on the spot from embarrasment.
"Barclay." she responded, face red and eyes puffy. "Get out of my room. Immediately."
"Wednesday, what the hell happened?" Xavier asked softly, looking around. "Are you okay?"
"That's none of your concern," Wednesday snapped in response, walking over to her typewriter. "Now 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦."
The couple looked over at each other and nodded in agreement. Bianca shook at her at the goth. "We're not leaving you, Wednesday. You need someone right now."
"Xavier, Bianca, I do not 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 your help. I don't 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚."
Xavier and Bianca shared a glance at the sight of the clearly distressed girl. Bianca kneeled at the goth's desk and placed her hand over hers. "Addams..." she uttered slowly. "That's what friends are for."
𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴, Wednesday thought. She'd never had friends before. It was...𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦.
The Addams sighed and turned to face Bianca. "If you must know, I kissed Enid and my affection was not reciprocated. Are we done now?"
Xavier stared at the goth, jaw agape. He was flabbergasted. I mean, everyone 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 there was something going on between the roomates, but Jesus Christ he never expected 𝘞𝘦𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘥𝘢𝘺 to be the one to initate it. "Hold up, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 kissed 𝘌𝘯𝘪𝘥?"
"And she didn't kiss you back?" Bianca added, equally confused.
"That's what I said, is it not?"
The couple just stared at the girl before them. Confused couldn't even begin to describe what they were feeling right now.
"So," Bianca sighed. "What are we gonna do to fix this?"
"Fix it?" Wednesday repeated, confused. "There's nothing to fix. I have feelings for Enid, she does not return them. Now she's in Yoko's room. It's a very black and white situation, to be frank."
Bianca looked as though a lightbulb had just popped up above her head. "Yoko's room? Right. I'll deal with this. Xavier, stay with her. I don't want her alone right now."
Xavier nodded, saluting. "Got it, officer."
Wednesday grimaced at him. "You are the epitomy of everything I hate, I 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘺 hope you know that."
Bianca smirked at the girl's comment, walking out of the dorm and heading to Yoko's.
She had a werewolf to deal with.
-------
Back in Yoko's dorm, the trio was now sat giggling about random things, trying to avert Enid's thoughts from Wednesday and the kiss.
However, their giggles immediately died down when Bianca came bursting through the door with a 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯.
"Sinclair," she uttered calmly as possible. "Get your ass back to your dorm 𝘯𝘰𝘸."
Enid sighed. "Wens told you what happened?"
"Yup. So dorm, now.,
Ajax then chimed in his two sense. "I mean, she doesn't really wanna go back right now -"
"I don't particuarly 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 what she wants right now, Ajax. What 𝘐 want is to be spending time with 𝘮𝘺 boyfriend in 𝘮𝘺 dorm. But no. No, instead I'm dealing with 𝘰𝘶𝘳 friend, who's currently having a nervous breakdown - "
"What do you mean nervous breakdown?" Enid asked timidly, feeling even more guilty than before.
"Oh y'know," Bianca began sarcastically. "Holes in the walls, clothes torn apart, bedsheets ripped, tear-stained face, y'know, regular Saturday funsies. Also, if any of you dare share that information with anyone, I will take it upon myself to make sure you endure a living hell." Enid felt her heart drop. 𝘍𝘶𝘤𝘬. "So, dorm. 𝘕𝘰𝘸. Before I grab that fucking tail of yours and drag you back 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧."
Enid looked over at her friends. "Yeah, I should probably go -"
"Yup, great idea - "
"Yeah go getcha girl!"
Bianca rolled her eyes before gripping Enid's arm, dragging her out the room.
------
Wednesday and Xavier had sat in silence. Xavier wasn't great at comforting people, only giving the occasional pat and "there there" if needed.
The silence was broke by the door opening and a very angry Bianca coming through with a very scared Enid behind her. "Hey...." the blonde said awkwardly.
Bianca made a gesture to her boyfriend. "That's our cue, Thorpe. Let's make a move."
Xavier nodded in understanding, moving towards the girl and throwing a thumbs up to the roomates. "Good luck!"
Moments later, they were gone.
And it was just Wednesday and Enid.
"Wens, I am 𝘴𝘰, 𝘴𝘰 sorry, I-I didn't mean to make you-"
"Spare it." The Addams interupted, tone as cold as ice. "I misread the situation, and I apologised. Now we can leave it as that. I have feelings for you, you don't have feelings for me. Done. Dusted."
"Wait, wait, wait," Enid rushed out. "Who said I didn't have feelings for you?"
"You? By running away? That's usually a very clear sign someone does not return your feelings."
"What?! No, no that's not - " Enid was getting frustrated, but she understood Wednesday's POV. "Willa, I've liked you since forever, I just thought you didn't -"
"Another nickname?" Wednesday groaned, a slight teasing tone under her voice.
"Sorry, your name's super nicknameable. But back to the main topic, Wednesday I'm...I'm really sorry for running away. I like you, okay? I was just confused."
"...So you don't hate me?" Wednesday nearly whispered, and in that moment, she sounded so 𝘴𝘰𝘧𝘵. Enid could have cried.
"No," Enid whispered back, walking over to the girl and cupping her face. "I 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 you."
Wednesday smiled, suprisingly leaning into the touch. "I love you too."
Enid let out a big goofy grin, nearly combusting with excitement. "Can I kiss you?"
The pale girl nodded, leaning up and pressing her lips against Enid's. The kiss was chaste, but filled with love. 𝘚𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦. Enid was the first to pull away, due to the need of oxygen, face flushed red. "Oh my God! You have dimples!"
Wednesday's face dropped. "I do not."
"U so do! Oh my God, that's 𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦, Wednesday -"
"Enid," the goth deadpanned. "I'd suggest shutting up or that'll be the last kiss you ever get."
Enid mimicked zipping her mouth shut and throwing away a key. "Okay, okay. Shutting up now."
So, like I said, things were the same, but they were different.
And even Wednesday had changed.
Because now, she had Enid Sinclair by her side...
𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳.
