Chapter 20 part 1

Location: Dorm House, Living room
“This is hectic” Kaine mutters as he watches with some amount of awe as Himeko is essentially zooming around the Dorm House
“It's to be expected, today will be one of the last day that all four of them will be living with us for the foreseeable future” Theresa says as she takes a sip of her bitter lemon juice
“Where’re they going?” Kaine asks his mother
“In light of recent events, Himeko and i agreed that Kiana and Ana staying here would be detrimental to both of them”
“If it's about the Genesha…”
“Kaine, St.Freya doesn't have any emperor class honkai beast data in our sim systems”
Kaine’s eyes widened at that revelation, “...wait, that means that…”
Theresa nods at the unfinished comment “There’s only a handful of individuals that has the required access level in order to add and alter all of our sim presets”
“ALL…!” the boy whisper shouted
Theresa pursed her lips, “yes, all, whoever that pulled this off had gone and changed the presets back to what it was originally” Theresa lets out a frustrated sigh, “the only reason that we know this happened is because the change logs can’t be deleted due to how the system is designed”
“You suspect great grandfather” the white haired boy said, sounding disappointed
‘This boy’ Theresa thinks fondly, “he's on the top of the suspect list, but he's not the only one who has the access level and reasons to pull something like this”
“But you still think it's him”
“Innocent till proven guilty” Theresa says with a wry grin, “regardless of how much i may suspect one of the individuals on the list” she finishes with an amount of childishness in her voice
Kaine, just facepalms ‘really mom…’ the boy thinks with a sweatdrop forming over his head, ‘you might as well point your finger at him until you're proven wrong…’

Location: Dorm House, dining room
Bronya found that her Mei-nee-sama was behaving somewhat oddly on occasion
From when she started cooking breakfast, to when they were eating breakfast, to now when the both of them are having some tea
The elder purple haired girl was rubbing her chest on occasion
“Is something wrong Mei-nee-sama?” Bronya asks with a tilt of her head, in her usual monotone voice with a hint of concern mixed in
Mei gave her a reassuring smile, “I’m fine Bronya-chan, my chest just feels a bit sore since i woke up this morning”
Bronya nods in acceptance “the Bronya suggests Mei-nee-sama to get the soreness checked if it persists throughout the day”
Mei nods, “alright Bronya-chan, i will”
Bronya finishes her tea and wordlessly heads upstairs
After Bronya leaves, Mei looks down to her own cup of tea
Her smile leaving her face and a frown taking its place
When Principal Theresa and Miss Himeko made the announcement this morning during breakfast that squad 13 along with Miss Himeko will be removed from the roster of active Valkyries and they will be leaving to take an extended break from Schiksal
Mei had been the one that asked the most questions and she would have attempted to convince Principal Theresa to let them (or at the very least her) go with Kiana
Had Principal Theresa not shot it down before she had the chance to attempt it
Kiana and Ana must go because they’re the ones that need it
Major Himeko must go due to the fact that she is through some technicalities Kiana’s legal guardian
And Fu Hua needs to go due to the fact that they will be staying at her home
Once again, a slight pain spikes through the soreness in her chest
maybe she should take Bronya’s advice and get herself checked out…
but after Kiana leaves, she wants to spend as much time as she can with the snow haired girl
if only she could get her alone to talk to her...
idlily, she wonders why the Herrscher hasn't said anything but she's not going to look the gift horse in the mouth on that front

Location: Dorm House, Kiana’s room
Bronya made her way to Kiana’s room
This would be one of, if not the last time she has to speak with Kiana before the snow haired girl leaves the next day
Kiana, like Class Monitor, Major Himeko and Subject Ana, would still be packing her things right now
Upon reaching Kiana’s room, Bronya sees that the room was mostly empty
Realistically, she knew that Kiana being the practical girl that she is, doesn't have a lot of stuff to her name
But the fact that her room was mostly empty after just a morning of packing her things, is still a bit staggering
Bronya, for the first time since Kiana was swallowed by the Privati, managed to bring herself to knock on the snow haired girl’s door
Kiana pauses folding her clothes and looks to the door
In Bronya’s opinion, Kiana’s tinted goggles make her look significantly colder than she would otherwise, and it doesn't help that Kiana has all but stopped smiling around them which just adds to the coldness
Kiana presses her lips together for a moment before speaking, “why are you here?”
“The Bronya wanted to apologize” Bronya says to Kiana
“About what exactly?” Kiana asks returning to her packing
Bronya didn't know how to answer that question
“About the times you nearly hit me or took my head off with your cannon?” Kiana asks without looking at the gray haired girl
“Or about the time you dragged me, kicking and screaming, all the way back to chiba academy so that you can get your homu doll fixed, never mind the fact that we passed multiple tailor shops along the way” Bronya winces slightly at that statement
“Or the blatant disrespect you've given me since the day we met?”
“Or is this about you being a brat to me in general?”
“The Bronya wants to apologise subject Kiana for everything” Bronya says finally, “the Bronya knows that apologising is not enough to make up for everything that the Bronya has done to subject Kiana and the Bronya wants to try and make amends with subject Kiana”
Kiana glances at Bronya, “It's a little late to try and make amends, don't you think?”
“The Bronya is willing to wait until subject Kiana returns”
“And if I don't return?” Kiana asks while looking directly at her
Bronya stayed silent for a moment, “the Bronya doesn't know”
“At least you're honest” Kiana mutters as she returns her attention to packing her things
Bronya, understanding that this conversation is essentially over, turns around to leave
“I'm not in a good mental state to make a decision now” Kiana says before Bronya leaves, “and if, IF , i decide to give you a chance in the future” Kiana continues, while emphasising the ‘if’, “word of the wise, don't fuck it up, because i know how to hold a grudge”
“Da, the Bronya understands” Bronya says with a nod before she leaves
Bronya felt the weight on her shoulder lessen considerably
But it was still there,
Sure, she and Kiana weren't friends
But she has a chance to earn the friendship once Kiana returns
