Chapter 5
Location: St.Freya Academy
Date: 18/04/14
Fu Hua is worried, Kiana is late to their tutoring session by almost an hour. As such Hua has decided to go and find her, chances are Hua will run into Kiana before she reaches the library.
“Fu Hua?, Shouldn’t you be in the library with Kiana”
Hua however didn’t expect to run into HImeko along the way
“Kiana didn’t come to the library and it’s been almost an hour, she’s never been this late so far and i got worried” Hua says with a light frown
“And so you decided to go find her.” Himeko states with a light frown as well, especially since the last time something like this happened Kiana was found on the roof silently crying to herself, “I think I’ll join you.” Himeko says and joins Hua in her quest to find Kiana.
It took the two around two minutes of walking to hear a commotion coming in the direction they were walking. As they got closer, they could make out what the commotion was about and both were appalled at what they were hearing. Insults being thrown by five different girls at an unknown sixth person, and what Himeko and Hua saw when they rounded the corner made them both freeze in place.
Himeko could feel her temper rising by the second at what she was seeing and hearing, whilst Hua looks almost perfectly calm, however if you look closely you can see that her hands are clenched into fists and are trembling ever so slightly, you could also feel her displeasure, disappointment and a bit of anger radiating off of her person
What could they’ve seen to have incited such a reaction from them?, Kiana being ganged up on by 5 other girls, with all 5 of them trying and failing to hit Kiana who still has her backpack on and is holding her notebooks to her chest, all the while throwing insults at the snow haired girl and the girl in question would grimace ever so slightly every so often when an insult hurled at her hits a little too close to home for her
It took Himeko a moment to collect herself and, “And pray tell, What is going on here!?” Himeko says with barely contained anger as Hua brushes past the 5 offenders and goes straight to Kiana.
The Bullies however froze the moment they had heard Himeko’s voice and they tried to pin the blame on Kiana.
“H-Himeko-sensei!”
“I-uh we-um It’s all her fault”
“Y-Yeah all her f-fault”
‘Y-yeah, s-she started it”
“So you’re telling me that Kiana, who is still wearing her backpack full of textbooks and is carrying her notebooks in hand, the same girl that mind you is voluntarily mute until her bet with Bronya comes to an end, is the one who started this?” Himeko asks the bullies in such a way that made it seem like they just told her the sky was purple
Meanwhile with Kiana and Hua
“Are you ok?” Hua asks Kiana surprisingly gently (as far as anyone thats not Kiana and Himeko are concerned)
Kiana just nods her head, “Kiana, i want you to head home today, in light of some… revelations,” when Hua says the word ‘revelations’ the amount of venom in her voice is staggering, “our tutoring session today is canceled and will continue tomorrow either at your dorm house or my dorm room” Hua finishes saying to Kiana
Kiana nods before she makes her way back to the dorm
Once Kiana is out of earshot Hua turns around to face the imbeciles
“Now, as for the 5 of you” Hua says menacingly
What Hua did to the Bullies is better left unsaid, even Himeko was left speechless
“Fu Hua, that was…” Himeko started
“Please don’t mention it Himeko-sensei” Hua cuts Himeko off before she can say much
“Umm, Himeko-sensei?” Hua starts, ”about your offer from yesterday, i think i’ll take you up on it.”
“Hmm, is someone feeling protective?,” Himeko teases Hua with a teasing grin.
Hua’s eyes widen as her face started to turn red
Kiana is back in her room, she just took a shower and changed it to some more comfortable clothes.
It’s been around about an hour and a half since Class monitor and Auntie Himeko saved her from the bullies. Right now she's on her bed staring vacantly at the ceiling going over what just happened not too long ago.
As she was letting her mind wander her thoughts eventually ended up going back to her class monitor, she couldn’t help but think back to how her class monitor, Fu Hua, has always treated her with the same amount of respect and equality as she did everyone else. Her class monitor was the only one that legitimately gave her a challenge during spars and from what she’s seen of her spars with others she is the only one that gives Fu Hua a challenge as well. And recently it seems like Class monitor, Fu Hua, was being nicer to her, kinder, gentler, going out of her way to compliment her. Kiana could feel the blood rushing to her face the more she let her thoughts wander.
If anyone saw Kiana right now they would say that she looks like a love struck girl fantasizing about her crush, the snow haired girl would stay like this for a good long while before she breaks free of her self induced trance
Kiana was broken out of her thoughts by the sound of the dorm house’s front door opening. curious as to who it could be, Kiana goes downstairs, turns out she's not the only one that's curious about who just came since everyone in the dorm house was there.
Himeko was the one that came in unlike how it normally would be, she was followed in by Fu Hua who has a pair of suitcases with her, Kiana blinks in confusion before…
FLASHBACK
Date: 15/04/14
Location: Dorm house
After Kiana, Hua and Himeko had finished their meal.
“So, Fu Hua, you mentioned that Kiana is multilingual and that you’ve tested this?” Himeko continues from where they left off before they started eating
Hua nods, “while I couldn't confirm all of the languages she listed, I did test all the ones that I do know.”
“Which are?”, Himeko questions
“Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, Hindi, Bahasa Melayu, German, Russian, Spanish and French, I also tested her on morse code. It's clear as day that she can speak English and Japanese. And if we consider that she was using sign language during that conversation it's clear that i don't need to test that either”
Himeko could only look at the duo in awe, considering that as a Valkyrie you are required to learn 3 languages besides English. A task that most girls, herself included, found to be daunting and yet here's 2 girls one of them fluent in 12 languages and the other, whom majority of the campus believes she will only be a valkyrie because she related to the principle, knows 19 and is in the process of learning a 20th. Even if 8 of those could be doubted she still knew 12 fluently which is still 4 times more than an average valkyrie. And if she adds on the fact that both know morse code, which puts both of them ahead of their class in some aspects.
Himeko takes a deep breath before she says with a smile, “ Fu Hua, would you like to move into this dorm house?”
“Pardon?” Hua asks confused
“Move into this dorm house, you’re probably one of if not the only person here in St.Freya that understands sign language, and if i’m not wrong about Kiana here, she wouldn't want to be carrying around a pen and notebook to be able to communicate with anyone in the dorm house. That and she seems rather comfortable around you” Himeko says, with the last part said with a teasing smile directed at the snow haired girl in question causing the said girl to look away in an attempt to hide the slight flush on her face.
“I’m sorry Himeko-sensei but i’ll have to decline” Hua says rather firmly
“Oh well, just keep in mind that the offer stands.” Himeko says
FLASHBACK END
…Kiana suddenly remembers Hua and Himeko’s conversation after their meal 3 days ago.
“Oh good, everyone’s here I won't have to repeat myself, now, in light of recent events Fu Hua here is going to be living with us, any questions?” Himeko makes her announcement within seconds of Kiana walking into the room.
“The Bronya is curious as to what the recent events that led to class monitor coming to live with us,” Bronya states with her naturally neutral tone, with Kaine and Mei nodding with her statement.
“Well there’s three in particular, the first one being you and Kiana’s bet Bronya, since Fu Hua here can communicate with Kiana without needing a pen and paper, the second being that she is officially Kiana’s tutor and it’ll help both of them if they live in the same place, as for the last one, it’s classified as of right now, Theresa and i need to discuss that one before anything can be revealed.”
“Umm, how would the class monitor be able to communicate with Kiana?”, Kaine asks, genuinely curious, which in turn causes everyone to look towards Kiana who was leaning against the wall next to the stairway to go upstairs.
Kiana just signs to Hua
“I’m not translating that, Kiana,” Hua states with a slightly amused voice.
Kiana blinks and signs something else to Hua, only for Hua to put her bags down and sign back to Kiana, which makes the girl in question beam in response.
“As you can see, Hua understands sign language which is something that Kiana herself knows.” Himeko states the obvious.
As Bronya was about to say something Kiana signs to Hua again.
“Kiana says that the terms of the bet clearly states that she needs to verbally speak in order for you to win Bronya” Hua translated for Kiana.
Bronya looks to Kiana and then to Hua and back to Kiana before saying, ”Da, the Bronya understands.”
“Well, now that that’s cleared up, Kiana, be a dear and show Fu Hua her room” Himeko says, putting an end to explaining why Hua will be living there now.
Kiana just nods an affirmative to Himeko before signing something to Hua, and Hua answers her by signing back to her.
