I look at the open casket her face looks serene like she is sleeping, but she will never open her beautiful jade eyes again. I feel a hand on my arm and place something inside my palm.
I look up and see Su eyes swollen and blood shot. I lean forward and let my head drop onto her chest and wrap my arms around her. She places a hand on the back of my head and on my back. I can feel the hot salty tears roll over my face soaking Su‘s dark green robes.
As I watch the now closed casket slowly disappear into the deep earthbent hole I can hear Chief Saikan talking to me but the only thing I can focus on is my wife being lowered into the hole in a Rosewood casket and the wedding ring digging into my plam in my clenched fist.
As Su and Tenzin drop me of and the now empty house that was once full of Lin’s and my love for each other, I can feel a loud sob make it’s way out of my mouth but I swallow it for Su‘s sake. But as soon as the door closes behind me my legs give out causing me to drop onto the hardwood floor of our hallway letting out a loud sob.
Somehow I manage to get rid of my coat and shoes and make my way to our shared bedroom. I look over at Lin’s closet and open it, her signature armour hidden behind the wooden doors shines in the moonlit room and her pyjamas are set right next to it her only her green three piece earth kingdom suit missing.
I let out a broken sob at the thought of never seeing her in neither ever again.
I get rid of of my dress to tired to put on my pyjamas. And drop onto the kingsize bed with sage green sheets and metal frame I once shared with Lin. Crawling over to her side of the bed and clutching her pillow to my chest that faintly smells like jasmine and her musky perfume, starting to cry again letting out broken sobs. Falling asleep somehow after an undefined time.
I jolt awake and look over at the nightstand it reads 2:48 then I suddenly feel a hand on mine.
“Darling are you alright?”
Her voice causes me to scream and I fall off the bed.
“Y/N! Are you alright?!”
From my position on the fluffy carpet on the floor I can see Lin crawl over to my side of the bed looking down at me.
“Y/n? Dear what’s wrong?”
She lets her legs fall over the side of the bed feet meeting the carpet and slides down the side of the bed sitting down in front of me.
Reaching forward to grab my hand.
“No, No this isn’t real.” Crawling backwards away from her I feel my back hit the wall.
“What isn’t real? What are you talking about love?”
“No this isn’t real you are dead I watched you get buried everyone was there! I’m going mad I no, no, no this can’t be happening please Agni no!”
“Love I’m not dead that wasn’t real it was a nightmare!” I feel strong arms wrap around me and pull my flush against her full chest rocking me side to side. My head falls into the crook of her neck and my eyes fill with tears and I start to sob again. I can hear Lin humm in the distance stroking my hair.
I can feel her lift my limp body and set my down on our soft mattress sitting next to me on her side of the bed pulling me into her lap leaning against the head board kissing the top of my head while I continue to cry into the crook of her neck.
“Shhhhhh… Love it’s okay I’m here I’m fine.”
“B-but I-it was s-so r-real.”
“It was a nightmare my Love. I will always come back to you. You’re never getting rid of your Chief-cranky-pants remember?”
This pulls a small watery laugh out of me.
“See you’re laughing again my love.”
I wrap my arms around her neck and pull her closer and kiss her scared cheek.
“If you wouldn’t return to me I think I would die of a broken heart.”
“Then I will make sure that never happens.”
Then she lies down taking me with her and I bury my head in her silky grey hair.
“Go back to sleep love we have to be up in a few hours. Im here I’ll be right here when you wake up again Love.”
“Okay.”
The next thing I know is that I am woken up by our alarm at 6:00 in the morning with an arm wrapped around my waist and Lin’s soft breath hitting the shell of my ear.
