A familiar face
Fenrir looked to Scabior, “Evan! Can you come here please?” he asked.
They hadn’t missed the creak of a stair like Evan was trying to sneak back upstairs unnoticed.
Evan came into the kitchen and he looked like he knew what was expecting him already.
Fenrir checked over him from a distance to make sure he wasn’t hurt before looking at Scabior with a nod, meaning Evan was fine. Fenrir didn’t know Albus as well as Scabior did, but he knew enough. “Hi Evan,” Fenrir started. “You’re not in trouble, but that entirely depends on how you take this, alright? First of all, are you okay?”
Evan looked up, seeming almost confused that he wasn't in trouble. "I'm- yeah, I'm fine" He fidgeted nervously under the eyes of the two men. All Scabior did was breath out in relief that he was alright, unharmed. That was the most he wanted.
“Why did you feel the need to hide and lie to everyone here?” Fenrir asked seriously.
Evan avoided to look at them, instead looking at his fidgeting fingers. "I...I wasn't supposed to tell anyone...or you would have stopped me from going...I didn't want that...there was a lot of interesting things to learn..."
Scabior sighed "First of all, sit down, don't stand there so awkwardly. I appreciate that you are being honest now at least." Evan sat down hesitantly, as far away from the two as he could. "I know Albus Dumbledore, I have known him for a long time, he used to be...rather close to my father...and he is not half the good person he pretends"
Fenrir nodded along, not wanting to take away from what Scabior was saying. Scabior had experienced more, after all. Evan just listened, apologetic, still avoiding eye contact in shame.
"We want you safe and we want the rest of the pack safe. But for that you need to tell us the truth and not do things on your own"
“Has Albus been forcing you to do things?” Fenrir asked
Evan frowned and shook his head, as if that idea seemed completely out of the question for him
Fenrir shared a look with Scabior, they both knew that Albus could make others do things without them knowing they were doing exactly what he wanted them to.
"Is there...more you need to know or can I...go?" Scabior sighed "It's alright, go rest, you probably had a long day. But remember that you can talk to us if you need to, alright?"
Evan only nodded and he was almost out the door before Scabior spoke up again.
"Evan? We are not angry at you, or disappointed. We really do want you safe" His words let Evan seem much lighter as he left.
-----------
Moony was sitting outside, having learned from the last full moon, knowing he would annoy the hell out of Regulus otherwise. But he didn't really feel...anything. Not fear and no excitement. Just...empty?
He had had to deal with a lot of old memories coming up now that Lyall was dead.
He hadn't told anything except for Regulus after he had cried for a long time last night, feeling guilty
Snatcher stepped outside and stretched before slightly spooking at seeing Moony there.
“…Hey.” He said. “I’m about to patrol, do you need to be alone…?”
Moony looked up at him and while he wanted, really wanted to be alone, he knew that doing so would just make him end up in his own head too much. So he answered the unspoken question while getting up.
"It's okay I can come with you"
Snatcher nodded, “Come on then, kid.” he said.
Moony followed, not in the mood for attitude today and knowing Snatcher would have a hard time handling his attitude today anyways. Moony hesitated. He wanted to do something to stop himself from thinking but no way he would do any of that feeling talk again, it massively sucked.
Instead, an idea crossed his mind and he nudged Snatcher "I betcha I'm much faster than you" he even chuckled a little and immediately started to sprint.
Snatcher scoffed, “I’ll make you eat my dust, brat.”
They started to race around the outer boundaries of the cabin before Snatcher stopped abruptly,
“Moony, stop.”
He smelled something strange and unfamiliar.
The tone of Snatcher's voice made Moony stop immediately and turn around to him, not even making the snarky remark he would have usually made about being stopped. This was serious and it felt a slight bit concerning.
Snatcher crouched down and started investigating the source of the smell,
“Stay low, Moony.” he said quietly. Snatcher found the smell in a bush and pulled someone out,
“Who the fuck are you?” He demanded.
They were a younger looking vampire, and Snatcher knew they lived with Tom at some point.
They smiled nervously, “I was just leaving. My name is Peter. I came too close, my apologies.”
Snatcher narrowed his eyes at them, “Hm, no. You’re not leaving.” He said. “Not yet.”
Moony saw the terrified boy and he immediately knew that that one would not be a threat. The kid looked far too scared and Moony just knew they weren't lying.
But he knew how protective Snatcher could get so he decided to speak up in case this would escalate - even if it might be a bit out of line.
"Snatcher, don't hurt him, eh? He looks like a scared rat in front of a cat, he won't do a thing"
Snatcher looked at between Moony and Peter with narrowed eyes, “I won’t. I need Scabior to see them first.”
"That- is a surprisingly rational thought coming from you that I actually agree with" Moony chuckled, having found his attitude again through the way the race had cleared his head.
“I can be rational.” Snatcher said defensively.
They dragged Peter back to the cabin and he looked like they had accepted his fate, he looked as though they were heading to the gallows.
"Gods, kid, we're not gonna kill you." Moony grumbled. He hated that this was happening right before the full moon.
He opened the door and saw Marlene and Dorcas putting on coats, but Marlene froze immediately.
"Peter?!"
Peter perked up at the sound of a familiar voice and practically sobbed in relief, “Marlene, hi.”
She pulled him into her arms and hugged him tight "Oh heavens what the hells are you doing here? Gods it's good to see you"
“I was threatened to be here, but really I came here to try to get away…” He droned off.
She pushed him as far away as it took for her put her hands on his shoulders "But...Tom is dead. Who threatened you? Are you alright? Did they hurt you? Gods I might just kill people..."
Snatcher spoke up, “Let’s take him to Scabior before we start harassing them with questions.”
Marlene nodded "Alright...yeah" she sighed and put an arm around Peter as she guided them to Scabior's office. She knew them and she seemed to deeply care about them.
Moony followed, a little confused, but not about to ask any questions quite yet.
When they opened the door, Scabior turned around to look at them and his eyes went from Peter to Snatcher, urging him to explain.
“We found this one outside while Moony and I were patrolling.” Snatcher explained.
Scabior raised an eyebrow
"Sit." he gestured to the chair in front of him, speaking calmly.
Marlene spoke up
"Scabior, I know them, they are not even able to hurt a damn fly I promise. Who ever made them come here is to blame-"
Scabior shut her up with a single gesture "It is alright Marlene, I did not think he was here to cause any harm."
Peter was fidgeting in their lap but he had sat down, “Well….there’s a lot that’s happened. I don’t— I don’t know where to start.”
"That's fine. I assume Marlene and you met while staying with Tom?" Marlene immediately shook her head
"We met back home. Germany. As kids. I mean...I guess it was his fault in the end but we met much earlier"
Scabior nodded "Alright, then maybe...tell me who sent you? What happened to you?" He asked Peter.
“…Albus Dumbledore sent me. I— He’s back. Grindwald is back. He’s been staying with Albus. Albus wanted me to come here to talk to Evan and lead you guys off of his trail, but— I needed to leave. Gellert is terrifying.”
Scabior exchanged looks with Snatcher and somehow he managed to conceal the pure Terror he felt spread through his body.
"Alright kid, alright, I know that. He can get bad. You're safe here for now, you'll be okay"
Peter nodded, but they were definitely crying. “It’s not that he hurt me—much—I just… I just needed to warn you. They’re planning something.”
Marlene got up and hugged Peter for comfort as Scabior looked at him, trying to be as comforting as possible while getting the information at the same time.
"What are they planning? Do you know?"
“Well…I can transform into a rat so I was able to eavesdrop for a little bit but they caught me after a while…They weren’t happy about that. I know it’s something big. I didn’t hear every detail, but Gellert was talking to.. Tom.”
Scabior had to have way too much fucking self control for one man alone to not outwardly react to that, but Moony had spent enough time with him to realize that he would have liked to scream...or cry...or punch something...or just all of it.
"I'll get them a room, Scabior. That okay with you, Pete?" Marlene mumbled, helping them up.
Peter nodded, “Thank you. I hope that I—that I helped.”
Scabior nodded "You did" Marlene guided them outside and closed the door and Scabior immediatly went pale.
"I..." He looked up at Snatcher "How?" was all he could get himself to say.
Snatcher immediately wrapped him into a hug and kissed his head, “I don’t know.”
Scabior was shaking, trying to keep his breathing controlled.
Moony felt a lot of that. That was the man that had held Regulus captive for two weeks until they had even been able to find him. He wouldn't let anything like this happen again, he couldn't or he would most likely kill himself.
“Maybe we should pay them a visit.” Snatcher suggested. “They probably wouldn’t expect it, unless that was their whole plan. To get us on the offensive.”
Scabior shook his head "I want the two of you to not worry about that today, we can talk about it once the full moon is over and you rested properly"
“You can’t worry about it either, then.” Snatcher pouted.
"That's not how it works and you know that, pup" Scabior sighed and kissed him softly.
“It should be.” Snatcher frowned.
Scabior couldn't help but chuckle "Sometimes you are almost adorable, pup"
Snatcher gasped in offense, “I am not adorable at all.”
Scabior nodded "Mhm you are"
Snatcher shook his head, “No.”
"I'm not arguing with you." Scabior looked out
"You two should really get outside by now" He was right, it was getting dark...
Snatcher almost whined but contained himself, “Yeah, you’re right. Let’s go, Moony.”
