Better Boyfriend than him

This is set when Clarissa and Lesso are in school, they're at a ball, and Dovey has a boyfriend. Lady Lesso still has her cane because I need it for the story.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lesso was standing over in the corner staring daggers at the clock, she knew that all students, regardless of school, were expected to stay for at least an hour from the start time. She only had fifteen more minutes to go when Clarissa showed up, she was in a floor length gold silk dress.

It would have been fine but she had to bring her stupid boyfriend to the dance, the perfect Ever thing to do. Just when she was going to get up and leave, her only friend came over, "Down girl"

Lesso growled, "Shut up"

Her friend only laughed, "Oh Lex, someone's jealous" She said her last to words in a sing songy tone.

"Alex, if you don't shut up I'm going to rip out your larynx"

Alex just shrugged and held out a cup, "I brought you punch"

Lesso opened her mouth but Alex beat her to it, "Before you ask, not it's not spiked"

Lesso groaned, "Then what's the point?"

Alex only laughed in response, "There is not point, I'm going to go dance, you gonna join me?"

If looks could kill, Alex would be dead, "No"

"Whatever, have fun Less"

Lesso continued to watch the clock until she noticed that Clarissa was standing over in another corner shivering with her boyfriend nowhere in sight. Lesso got up and walked over to her, she held her jacket out to Dovey, "Here, take this"

Clarissa was startled out of her reverie by Lesso, she looked at the jacket surprised, "Oh no, I couldn't"

Lesso sighed, "It's either that or you sit here and freeze because you Robert the asshat  is too busy flirting with every Ever here to keep you warm"

Clarissa knew she was right, her boyfriend didn't love her, or even like her for that matter. They were together simply for status, she took the jacket and put it on, "Thank You, Lesso"

Lesso's brain was malfunctioning at seeing Dovey in her jacket, "Oh, of course, no problem" Then she turned on her heel and walked off.

Clarissa smelled the jacket and was pleased to find that it smelled of earth, she put her hands in the pockets and felt how thin the fabric was. Only then did she realize how worn in the jacket was, for the jacket to be this worn she would have had to worn it for everyday for years.

....

Clarissa had been standing alone for about twenty minutes after Lesso gave her the jacket before her boyfriend came back. When he saw the jacket he knew it belonged to a Never, and he suspected he knew which one, he grabbed the jacket and pulled her close, "Who gave you this?"

Clarissa looked down at the floor, "No one, it doesn't matter"

Robert was getting madder by the second, "THE HELL IT DOESN'T" A couple people, Lesso being one of them, started looking their way so he released his grip and pulled her into the hallway. Lesso made her way out into the hallway to finish listening to their conversation.

"I can't have my girlfriend wearing another person's jacket"

Clarissa got a boost of confidence by the fact that he knew whose jacket she was wearing, everyone knew whose jacket it was, and he still was too scared to say her name, "Then maybe I shouldn't be your girlfriend"

Robert looked shocked that she would even suggest that, "What do you mean 'I shouldn't be your girlfriend'?"

Clarissa's confidence slightly faltered, but then she saw the shadow of Lesso's cane, "I mean that maybe we should just call it quits, I mean we're not fooling anyone. Everyone knows that we don't love each other, so maybe we should do the right thing and just call it quits"

Lesso was listening and could tell that what Robert did next wasn't going to be pleasant, so she walked out from behind the wall and walked over beside Clarissa, "Don't move"

Robert didn't take the threat as seriously as he should have, "Oh yeah, and what are you going to do if I do?" And with that he put his foot forward.

Before he could finish his step Lesso had a sword held up to his throat, "Do you really want to find out?"

Robert went white as a sheet, he knew that according to rules students could kill each other, but Lesso had never been one for following rules,  "Nevermind"

She lowered her sword and put it back inside her cane, "I thought so, now what are you going to say to Dovey?"

Robert lowered his gaze, "I'm sorry"

Lesso stomped to get his attention, "Louder, and look her in the eyes"

Robert looked Clarissa in the eyes, "I'm sorry"

Clarissa nodded, "Thank you, I accept your apology"

Robert looked at Lesso who nodded, "You can leave now"

Robert didn't say anything he just ran off down the corridor, they both stood there listening to his feet fall until they could hear him. Then Clarissa turned towards Lesso, "Thank you"

"No problem, you can give me the jacket back tomorrow at breakfast" Then she turned around and started to walk off.

Before she could get to far Clarissa grabbed her wrist and turned her back around, "Wait"

"What?"

"Why did you help me?"

Lesso's face showed no emotion, however on the inside she was freaking out, "No reason"

"Come on, you could have let him slap me and continue to be little me until eventually he found someone better to be with, but instead you gave me your favorite jacket, held a sword to his neck, and was prepared to let me keep the jacket overnight"

A blush flourished Lesso's cheeks,  "Um. . Well. . "

Clarissa stepped closer, "Did I leave you speechless, ma'lady?"

That snapped Lesso out of her reverie, "I didn't think that your partner should grab your wrist, slap you, or flirt with other girls in front of you"

Clarissa smiled, "Does that mean that you would treat me differently?"

The blush on Lesso's cheeks depened, "I don't. . . um . . . I don't think about it"

Clarissa stepped forward one more time so that they were less than a foot apart, "Maybe you should"

This time Lesso stepped forward, then she ran her hands up Dovey's arms and up to her neck, then slowly she moved in to kiss her. When their lips connected they felt as if fireworks were going off, they had never been kissed like this, Lesso's hands traveled up to Dovey's hair and back down when she realized that Clarissa had her hair up.

Clarissa's hands however snaked their way into Lesso's hair, and Lesso's hand pulled Clarissa closer to her, when they parted they were both out of breath and smiling, "I will"

Clarissa pulled them back down for another kiss, this time Dovey backed Lesso against a wall, "Good"
