Move-In Day!
“Put your back into it!” Rio shouted.
“What does it look like I'm doing?” Alice shouted back followed by a grunt.
Rio Vidal and Alice Wu-Gulliber had been friends since elementary school, but for the duo it felt like they had known each other since birth. The two could finish each other's sentences and knew each other better than they knew themselves.
Up until now, Rio had lived in Atlanta but Alice had convinced her to move to LA since Alice had already lived there for three years now, which is why Rio had spent her entire day carrying boxes into her new apartment, with the help of her best friend of course.
“I can not believe you coaxed me into moving across the country” Rio said from her spot on the couch
“Ok I did not coax you into doing anything. Besides, we will be working together at TAPS so the paycheck will be way better than your old schools” Alice replied. Both the girls had been teachers for 9 years. While Rio taught biology and chemistry, Alice taught band.
Back in Atlanta, Rio had been teaching in public schools but since Alice had been living in LA for three years, she had put in a good word and got Rio a job at “Technologically Advanced Private School” or TAPS. TAPS was where any wealthy or famous people living in LA sent their kids for school. The school was taught entirely by specially certified teachers and had upgraded security for the safety of the celebrities. Anyone who worked in the school had to sign multiple NDA’s
“Anyway, have you got your class rosters yet?” Alice asked
“I was emailed them, but I haven't looked at them yet,” Rio said as she walked to the kitchen to get snacks.
“Well hurry up and check! I want to know what the classes will look like this year”
Rio tossed Alice a bag of gummy worms as she sat back down on her side of the couch and opened her email. Rio immediately shrieked.
“Okay, OUCH, my eardrums” Alice complained as she covered her ears. “Who are you teaching?” she asked while looking at a very starstruck Rio
“I knew famous people sometimes sent their kids here, but Alice…I’m teaching NICHOLAS HARKNESS! AND THE MAXIMOFF TWINS?”
“Oh, I know those kids. Because of the NDA’s we sign we can't talk about it which is why I never mentioned the kids and celebrities i’ve met” Alice replied with a simple shrug.
“ALICE, WHAT? THIS IS SO COOL” Rio yelled like a kid on christmas. “Wait, does this mean I’ll also get to meet their famous parents too?”
“Yeah, most of the teachers there are actually pretty chill with the parents”
“Agatha Harkness was like, my gay awakening! I can NOT teach her son” Rio promptly put a couch pillow to her face and screamed a scream that could have woken the dead.
“AGAIN, EASY ON THE EARS,” Alice complained “And you will have to suck it up because I practically begged Lilia to give you this job and I will not allow you to mess it up”
“ALSO YOU CAN NOT HAVE THE HOTS FOR YOUR STUDENTS MOM! Unless she falls in love with you. Then I will approve because I am a sucker for true love”
“Please in what world would a celebrity fall for me? Also isn't she like 46? She is way too old for me, plus she is the straightest woman alive, I will just admire her from a distance” Rio said with a triumphant smile, clearly happy with herself for coming up with a quick solution to her celebrity crush.
“Oh my gods. Just don't admire her at all you freak” Alice groaned and threw a pillow at her.
“Oh that's how you want to play? You're going down Gulliver!” Rio yelled and began launching pillows at Alice.
“TRUCE! TRUCE!” Alice begged.
“I suppose I will have mercy and spare you” Rio said with a posh like accent, clearly trying and failing to sound like royalty.
Rio and Alice settled back into their spots on the couch, leaving a few pillows on the floor from their pillow fight (or pillow attack if you were to ask Alice).
“So what should I know about TAPS before the first day of school?” It was a Tuesday, and on Friday there would be a back to school event and classes started the Monday after.
Alice hesitated before answering, but upon remembering that Rio now worked there too and had signed NDA’s she finally answered. “Well Agatha likes to bicker with all of the teachers for fun, but she is still pretty involved and volunteers for quite a bit of school events. Wanda is her best friend so naturally she also volunteers for school events.”
At that, Rio realized something and interrupted “wait, are you on a first name basis with the parents? The CELEBRITY parents?”
“Well, like I said, the parents are normally pretty chill, so most of them prefer to be called by their first name. I am actually friends with Agatha and Wanda, believe it or not.”
“WHAT?!” It was a good thing Rio wasn't drinking anything because it would have sprayed everywhere with the gasp she let out.
“Well not very close friends, but we are friends nonetheless and have a small group we usually hang out with,” Alice explained to Rio, who still looked like she was on the verge of a heart attack.
“Alice, with all due respect, what the actual fuck.” Rio said and after a moment added “Ok so while I would love to keep talking about this double life your living, it is almost midnight and I need to process this so I am kicking you out”
“Fine I'll leave, only because I'm your best friend and I know you usually need a nap to process big things. Love you!” Alice called out as she got up and walked out of the apartment and presumably into her own right across the hall.
“Love you more!” Rio shouted back as she got up and locked the door
What a crazy fucking day was the only thought Rio could process as she walked into her new bedroom and changed into pajamas.
As Rio laid in bed, she had one stressor: How the fuck was she supposed to act chill around Agatha Fucking Harkness this Friday?
