Summary
Luz Noceda stumbles into the demon realm at seven, and the world of canon changes in one significant way. The Golden Guard Hunter gains a younger sister, and the human Luz Noceda-Clawthorne gets an older brother. They are real siblings, though they'd never admit it, so when Luz discovers Hunter is covered in scars, she (naturally) blames herself and hatches a plan to show him how his life should be.In a nutshell, hunting palismen happens six years early. Hunter gets a heroic, insane, cheerful little sister he'd follow just about anywhere (if only because he's worried she might get hurt,) and Luz has a nerdy, level-headed, grumpy brother she loves him all the more for those things. He pretends he doesn't care (but she knows he does,) and when she figures out someone hurt him, she decides kidnapping him is his best shot at happiness.(This takes place at canon time. She just has frequented the boiling isles longer.)
Note
First and foremost, trigger warning? I don’t know if this is one but mention of scaring and mention of abuse as a behavior a character finds normal.I would also like to say many of the negative tags are sort of watered down in this fic (as i haven’t gone through any of these things i cannot write them correctly) i will try to make a couple moments darker (several nightmares and such) and i think it will go well but i don’t know what standards readers would judge this on.Secondly before you start you should know this is my first fic. I've been writing stories in my head for years but none made it on paper. The characters may be OOC though I'll try not to make them that way. The first chapter will be a bit long ( its intro and exposition) but the rest will be shorter. The story is supposed to be in present tense but for some reason, my writing often comes out in the past tense so yeah. Prepare to dive right in and meet a pair of siblings that would do anything for each other. You DON’T need to read this it's tagged but it will give extra info there is also a tldr down below (this story will also include huntlow with hunter and willow liking each other very much and in a super cute genuine way. With hunter and amity, amity will be incredibly suspicious of him not knowing hunter's intentions for her girlfriend and hunter not thinking amity is good enough for his sister as well as being slightly skeptical of Amity's intentions towards his not sister. There is also Eda and hunter distrusting each other slightly but it will mostly just be funny. I'll try to include things like gus and willow's friendship, amity and willow's friendship, and gus and hunters friendship. I don't know if I will include too much. All I know is if you want to see hunter get a family you'll be reassured to know he has a sister who loves him and more family on the way.Tldr This is a fic by an author who is getting the hang of things but it will have cute platonic relationships. Of course the main luz and hunter, (an argumentative hunter and amity, a skeptical of each other Hunter and Eda,) as well as sweet romantic relationships (Some cute crush-ish Huntlow, minor Lumity, and mentioned Vasha.) Luz and Hunter are siblings for the win!I changed some tags as many of these things will be mentioned scarcly.

Amity could hardly wait for Luz to arrive.  She had been having a bit of a crummy day. Nothing too serious, just teachers talking about one of her least favorite subjects.

Multiple professors had talked about inheritance theory. Which was about how many speculations said that it was more likely for a child to have success in a certain type of magic if one or both of their parents had success in that type of magic.

It really shouldn’t bother Amity. It bothered Amity. It bothered Amity that it bothered her. Still, Amity hated the idea that her strength, all her accomplishments, could be traced back to her father rather than being on her own merit.

She had even partly tuned out what the professors were saying which would be very bad coming back to the subject.

She simply couldn’t stand hearing about how her power could likely not be her own, at least not fully. She knew that despite her prowess she was not as naturally gifted as her friends despite the fact that neither Gus nor Willow had either of their parents in their track.

She kept up with them with the excessive amount of work she put into honing her power while they put in reasonable amounts of work (it was worth it to match their level though draining.)

It was difficult sometimes she deserved what she had for working so hard but it hurt deep inside to know the feeling that asked if her maximum capability would even be there if not for her father. It asked if she would be physically able to do what she could if not for him. She reminded herself nothing was proven on inheritance theory (though many thought it was true the theory part was only partly for show.)

She shook it off. Luz would be coming in soon and she didn’t want to be all mopey when that happened.  Despite her bad day, her life had been looking up since Luz entered it, it started getting better when she first met her but as Amity grew closer to Luz the better it got. The two of them were dating now and life was good,  Amity smiled.

Thinking of Luz tended to make her do that. Her last class had been next door so she got here early but Luz should be here by now.  Amity frowned why wasn’t Luz here yet? It was getting near bell time. Luz darted in and  Amity raised a hand to wave her over but she didn’t even look back at Amity.

Amity was frowning now. Why wasn’t Luz sitting with her? Had she forgotten? She rarely forgot her commitments for more than a handful of moments.

Amity could be patient until Luz remembered. Had Luz had a worse day than her? Was that why she had forgotten? As Amity waited the bell rang she nearly cursed but it would be alright she breathed deep in and then out again. Things would be alright.

The teacher started the lesson. “As you know today we are talking about the theory behind why witches have more power in their selected tracks.” Amity grimaced. She had hoped he would talk about something else. Unfortunately, that did not seem to be in the books. Amity kept looking at Luz and eventually, she couldn’t stop looking.

Everything about her girlfriend was amazing and 100% Luz. The little bits of her hair not cut overly short were left to stick up and out in Luz’s preferred hairstyle and the bottom was so cute, how her hair extended out near the ends of her haircut and into a crisscross.

Wait a second, Amity squinted at Luz’s hair. She distinctly remembered recently Luz cutting part of one of the crisscross sections because she lost the necessary ingredient for potions class and she thought her hair would be a decent substitute.

After she cut it she had acted like since it would not mess up her haircut or make it uneven that it was a perfectly reasonable thing to do to cut part of her hair off(though to be fair she had been running on less sleep than usual then and she had taken a suspicious potion around that time.)

Amity shook it off. It was likely nothing. Amity was probably just missing some detail like a faster hair growth rate or a growing potion or maybe a really good hairstylist.

Whatever it was she could talk to Luz about it later. When Luz got up here! The teacher paused a pause that asked if there were any questions. A hand raised, it was Luz’s hand. Why was Luz raising her hand?

“I wasn’t here for the other classes since I'm multitrack. What should I do?” It was strange Luz was asking for help. She'd usually talk to someone near her about notes if she needed them but maybe she was too frazzled for that today. I think I got it mostly but I'm not sure. The professor gave her an unimpressed look.

"Miss Noced- "

"Sorry you can help me later, I shouldn't have interrupted." She stopped talking.  Amity could imagine Luz’s face perfectly. It flashed an apology before she started paying attention seriously again.

When it didn’t automatically seem like Luz would say anything more  Amity went back to staring at the back of her girlfriend’s head and daydreaming.

“No, I can tell you. You usually are one of my better, I might even say best students.” Luz sat up a little straighter at that,  Amity could imagine her smile. “We are talking about we are talking about inherited traits in individuals.”

Amity was a tad surprised Luz didn’t look back at her for that in sympathy(the last time they had talked about inheritance theory  Amity had gone on a half-hour-long rant to her,) but she was probably focusing so hard.

Luz kept asking questions for the next little while. Luz always cared so much about her work being decent. Even though Luz acting weird, it was okay. It was bothering Amity that Luz hadn’t looked back at her and smiled once but Amity was sure she would soon. When the teacher said they should partner up, Amity walked over to Luz. Luz startled badly.

“Wha” she turned and when Luz saw Amity a look that she had never seen Luz wear across her face. Amity wondered what had happened, what was wrong with her girlfriend, did she not like her anymore? She had never seen Luz with that unfriendly expression before.

Had Luz changed? What was up with her awesome girlfriend? She was sure there was a logical explanation for this; she just had to talk about Azura and everything would go back to normal.

What part though? Luz had so many favorites. Amity opened her mouth to say anything to fix this and- ding. Her scroll went off. She knew she wasn’t supposed to check it in class but she needed to get a tad further away from Luz. (She hadn’t wanted to get further away from Luz in years and years and years Something was wrong!)

She held up a finger to tell Luz to wait a moment and then she walked away. She just needed a second and she would fix everything. It was her duty as Luz's girlfriend.

She scrolled up and saw a message from gus. Gus: Someone is at the school who looks like Luz but I am 99.5 percent sure they aren’t her. Be on your guard and don’t let anything they say hurt you. Amity froze she felt too hot and then too cold. That wasn’t Luz?

Amity wanted to run over and shake the person until they told her who or what they were until they gave her answers and what was up with them being here instead of Luz.

She wanted to pace around until she calmed down but that would take far too long. There was only one good solution. She would have to carefully prove they were not Luz and unmask them(Preferably via illusion but if not at least prove they weren’t her.)

She was going to hate sitting with this person who looked like they weren’t Luz but it would prevent her from being dragged off to detention. “Hey Luz” She grinned at her and sat down.

Hunter

The Blight girl was sitting next to him. Why did it have to be her? She was part of the family in the boiling isles most known for weaponry and lack of mercy in using and selling them.

Definitely not a good quality to have. He tried not to think of her hair she couldn’t be who Luz spoke of. He had to make it though. They still had a good 15 minutes of class left. He searched his head for her name and luckily it was there. He had scowled for a second the first time he saw her but he had better control now.

“Hey Amity ” he waved.

The teacher yelled, “Groups I said. Not pairs.“

Amity scowled (did she want to be alone with Luz?) and another person joined them.

"Sooo" she dragged out the word "I forgot to ask how was your weekend?) He didn't know the answer to that question but he did know he could ask her.

“Pretty fine how was yours?” he grinned his most Luz-ish grin

 Amity

This was going all wrong Amity didn’t know what to do when this person was impersonating Luz well she lost her wits around Luz’s smile and this person had an incredibly similar one. Why had she not decided something was wrong when she saw the hair? Then she could have had time to plan.

“Pretty good I spent basically the entire weekend on a project but it was worth it” she cursed herself she should have made up something about seeing Luz so that she could trip up the person.

"So how was that new Azura book?" A shocked expression crossed imposter Luz’s face.

“Azura book? There is no new Azura book. Is there?” Luz’s eyes widened and her voice began to panic, “Did I miss a new Azura book? How could I have? I’m the worst fan ever.

How can I call myself one of the top 3-5 Azura fans if I didn’t know? Am I a fake fan?” Luz was panicking. No not Luz, Amity reminded herself but she obviously hadn’t caught Luz up with that jab.

 “Just joking” Luz relaxed.

“Don’t scare me like that Amity ”Amity had to remember that Luz wouldn’t talk like that she had incredibly different speech patterns than the last sentence. Though this person was acting unsettlingly close to her.

“So did you enjoy having breakfast with me?”

Fake Luz’s brows furrowed she saw calculations behind their eyes and then they smiled and replied

“Do you mean dinner? Your words are coming out all scram-jambled today” Had this person been stalking Luz? When she got them caught she would have to find some way to punch them if they had been. The person forged on “I loved talking about Azura with you."

“What Azura did we talk about?” The person squinted at her “I kind of forgot” she tried to look apologetic.

Luz blinked and then blushed a little in a sheepish way. “I don't remember exactly but I do remember it was awesome.” “talking about Azura is so much better if the other person loves it almost as much as you” she paused. “Well, talking about anything is better when the other person loves it as much as you but especially Azura.”

This person really knew how much they loved Azura. What they didn’t know was that Luz wouldn’t say Amity loved Azura less than Luz. She knew how utterly offensive that was to Amity. This wasn’t Luz and what if there was something wrong and that was why Luz wasn’t here? She had to try harder.

She was strong and smart enough to beat this imitation Luz she just had to find the right words she was pretty sure it wouldn’t be long until she exploded if not. She needed to catch them and she knew how.

“What happens in Azura book three part two?”

“What do you mean part? There are just chapters.”

“Book 5 chapter 23”

“Hecate and Azura's first kiss and the only kiss on the lips fully confirmed so far.  How could I not know that? Is this a pop quiz?”

"Book three chapter 10"

"Something with the witchells I can’t remember exactly what. I’m failing the pop quiz.”

”Luz would remember anything in Azura you're not her '' Amity shot up from her seat.

Hunter

Hunter just needed to hold on a bit longer she seemed like she was losing composure. he could make it.

“No one can remember everything. Why do you think I’m not me?”

The blight stammered “I, you, you're just not her”

The student near them piped up timidly. “What's going on?”

“Nothing,” Hunter said while Blight yelled the same word.

"Okay", student slumped down in their seat.

Hunter looked at the table and saw the worksheet. Crap, he had forgotten they had to do it. “We need to get this done”.

Blight glared “I’m not done speaking to you”

Hunter ignored her. Luckily the questions were all easy to answer. He had learned a decent amount about inheritance to magic when he was hoping he could find a way to do magic. He was able to scribble down the answers to the first 4 in no time. When he looked up  Amity stood there turning red.

Luz would hate it if her friend (he convinced himself that she was just that. She wasn't the person Luz was dating. It couldn’t be a Blight.) was in trouble when Hunter could have prevented it.

“You should really start working we're almost out of time”

“You, you” Hunter looked back down at the last problem it was a tad tricky he was pretty sure it was building on previous classwork he hadn’t seen but he could figure it out he looked a bit harder but he just had to… there.

He knew the answer he scribbled it down. Now he only needed to show his work on how he got it. He heard footsteps and he quickly moved out of the way

“I’ll find what’s disguising you and then I’ll make you tell me everything you know.”

She lunged for him again he just had a little work left but he would have to escape afterward, “ Amity what the heck are you doing”

“You’re not Luz and it dishonors her to pretend to be her”

Hunter would have to inform Luz of Amity’s behavior it didn’t seem like it would take too much for her to have a mental break.

He jotted a couple more numbers and he was done. He checked the bell and nearly cursed 60 seconds but he had an idea he just hoped he remembered how to do it.

While he dodged her it would have been incredibly easy if not for how unpredictable she was acting (she put different amounts of strength into each move) Then he grabbed a piece of scratch paper from behind him and while they were near a table he managed to jot something down. 30 seconds he had to be careful and keep out of her way.

“You really should be finishing your work.”

I’ll finish it once I finish you.” That was a surprisingly good line. He’d have to try and incorporate that sometimes when he was performing golden guard duties. His pause gave her time she lunged forward and as he tried to doge she caught him and as the bell rang she caught his charm.

 Amity

Something fell through the air  Amity grabbed for it.  She saw something a flash of hair that looked blonde and an outfit that looked vaguely familiar before the hair shifted back to Luz’s color then everything vanished.

The person was gone they had caught the charm. It had all happened in a matter of seconds. Maybe  Amity could find them.

She looked carefully among the flow of students for something that stood out but she saw nothing, then a breeze and a paper drifted into the old turn-in tray.

Amity blinked that was strange she walked over and pulled the completed assignment out. It was filled out and the answers seemed right. She walked over and set it on the table like the teacher always had them leave the papers.

She might not like this person but if they made sure Luz’s assignment was done, that was okay. She cursed then and grabbed her paper. She would have to get this done. She hoped she wasn’t late. She would have to shoot a text off to Willow.

Luz’s next class was potions and they were testing them outside today, right next to the plant track students. Gus had probably texted her already but two warnings were better than one.

...

Willow

Willow was working on plants outside when she saw Luz dart past her. No, not Luz. Willow shot up. This was not the Luz she knew. The others thought they were dangerous Willow wasn’t sure what this person was.

Still, Willow wanted to know what was going on she put on a burst of speed and caught them.

“What?” they turned and stiffened. “Hey how are you doing, I need to go,” they said and Willow was pretty sure they were still trying to be Luz.

"I know you're not Luz"

"what do you mean of course I’m"

“I know you're not Luz” Willow repeated and they slackened. they looked at her warily like they were planning on figuring out how to escape “I’m not going to try and uncover your identity” she said they looked at her with suspicion

“I don’t necessarily think you're dangerous like the others do.” She restrained herself from making the last words pointed.

Whoever they were they had still made her friends upset enough for both of them to shoot off hexts to her.

She didn’t think they necessarily had that intention since her conversion with them from earlier didn’t make them seem particularly malicious but she knew that her 80/20% odds that they were dangerous seemed biasedly weighed in their favor.

There was a question she needed to know the answer to “But why are you running?” She let go when it looked like they wouldn’t bolt. It felt weird talking to someone who looked like Luz but who was a stranger.

They finally answered reluctantly seeming “because someone is chasing me.”

She nearly rolled her eyes "I could guess that. Why is someone chasing you?”

"I don’t have time to tell you that I have to go."

“I need a better answer to that question” She shouted after them she had let them go so she probably wasn't going to get an answer. They were running hard then they paused.

“Someone is chasing me and I intend to make them regret things.” that was not a comforting answer. “Can you use your plants to trip them up? Then make it look like they tripped on their own?” That sounded like on purpose humiliating someone. She doesn't know what this person did to supposedly deserve that.

“What did this person do to you to deserve this? I doubt they deserve it.” She set her feet in a stance that was good to fight if it became necessary

“You might consider it when you see who it is.”

Willow asked(just in case), “When and how should I do it?”

"Do it as easily as you need to and when she gets into the eye-line of the most people possible."

Willow blinked and they were gone seconds later and she heard a new person running in as she heard her yell, Willow smiled. She might be on board with their plan after all.

She walked in the direction both the other witches were running in and readied her circle. She kind of hoped they had something good planned. It would be amazing to watch.
