Addams' Family Traditions

If Wednesday hadn’t already been made aware of her family’s curse, she would have been overcome with joy at the thought of slowly growing mad. But she knows better, and she is well aware that the madness inside her mind had a name of its own. Love.

She refuses to give either of her parents the satisfaction of knowing that they had correctly predicted just what would happen if she attended Nevermore and gave it an actual shot. Her family’s curse is not the only thing that is causing her to worry. Her vision has been plaguing her mind ever since she had it.

She shakes her head, not wanting to remember the sight of her friend and possibly future paramour in such danger. It is inevitable though, where the Addams go chaos follows and it may be better for Enid the sooner, she figures that out.

Speaking of the blond, she has been acting quite strange since their dance lesson. She runs every morning now and barely greets her friend when she sees her in the front doorway waiting. Wednesday had even seen her entering into her father’s office just a moment ago speaking in hushed voices. Her father never does anything in a demure manner.

This is shaping up to be a decent mystery, one she intends to solve. The blond has never been so closed off to her. Ever since the day they met she has been a chronic oversharer. She would often talk Wednesday’s ear off about all of the things she did that particular day. She would mention too many names that Wednesday never bothered to remember.

But for the last few days the house has been eerily quiet, more so than usual. The blond hadn’t barged into her room like usual to lounge across her bed while she wrote, she hadn’t even complained about Wednesday’s lack of attention. Her mother, father and brothers have been keeping to their corners of the house except for mealtimes. Her father citing some excuse about preparations for the reunion.

Her mother has been in her greenhouse more often, not stopping to linger in doorways as has become her habit over the years. If she believed her brothers to be better at causing chaos than herself, she would be worried about all of the whispering that they have been doing. Knocking their heads together and running off before Wednesday can even attempt to ask questions.

She decides to start her investigation with the person whom she believes will give her the most answers when pressured. She makes her way towards her father's office where his door is firmly shut. With one ear pressed firmly to the hard wood she can hear hushed voices, too quiet to make out anything specific. She jumps from the door when it is pulled open by just the person she is looking for.

Enid smiles at her but it doesn’t reach her eyes, which are red rimmed. She looks like someone has just told her unicorns don’t exist or some other hard truth that would be equally devasting to the young wolf. “Hey Wednesday.” Her voice is strained, probably from the crying but she doesn't sound overly upset. She meets her father's eyes over Enid’s shoulder.

“What did you say to her?” She doesn't mean for it to come out sounding so harsh but the idea that her father has in some way hurt her friend brings a certain level of anger to her chest demanding to be acknowledged. “It’s okay my little tormenta, we were just having a little heart to heart.”

Wednesday looks to Enid once more to make sure that she really isn’t in some kind of distress. The blond nods her head in agreement and smiles a little more genuinely this time. “I’m fine Willa, just got a little emotional is all. I’m going to my room for a bit. See you later.” Enid squeezes her shoulder as she passes her and Wednesday looks back to her father.

“No one should be causing her any kind of distress but me.” Her father simply raises both of his hands in surrender and chuckles to himself muttering something in Spanish under his breath. Wednesday doesn't catch all of it but can gather it was something along the lines of “....for someone so smart how can she be so blind.”

She shakes her head and makes her way to her next target instead, hoping for some information that will actually be useful.

W&E

Enid had been trying to do all of her planning as far away from Wednesday as possible. She was worried that all it would take was one look at her face and Wednesday would know exactly what she was doing. She had called Yoko first for advice in the hours following their dance lesson. It took nearly ten minutes for the vampire to stop laughing. She then went on and on about how of course Enid would be the last to know about her crush on her roommate.

Apparently, she has been oblivious for months. She hadn’t been completely in the dark, she knew that some of the feelings that she had for the shorter girl were deeper than that of what she felt for even Ajax. She had just summed it up to the fact that they had both nearly died. Sure, she knew that Wednesday was attractive, but Enid thinks that most girls are attractive. Enid had even thought at one point that Bianca had been the prettiest girl that she had ever met but all girls think that way, right?

But with Wednesday it goes so much farther than just thinking that she’s pretty. Enid can’t stop herself from daydreaming about braiding her hair and every time she closes her eyes she can see the young writer tense in concentration, trying to get every thought onto paper before it escapes her mind. Wednesday has even snuck into a few of her dreams now, dreams that leave her longing for more physical touch than the shorter girl would ever actually allow.

So, with her feelings fully realized Enid decides that the best course of action would be to find out everything she can about traditional Addams’ courting. She enlists the help of Thing who explains all that he can. That is how she found herself in Gomez’s office with the door firmly closed.

Gomez had been enthused by Enid’s request to court his oldest child and only daughter. He had smiled so wide Enid thought his face might split. The man had then jumped from his chair hugging Enid so tight without her supernatural strength she believes he would have snapped her spine in half. He told her that he already saw her as a daughter and that she would always be welcomed as an Addams regardless of whether or not Wednesday accepted her offer of courtship.

Enid had of course started crying immediately hugging the man just as tightly. She then asked his advice on how to proceed. Gomez handed her his handkerchief and pointed her in the direction of Morticia. Before she could even take one step out of the door she came face to face with their topic of conversation. Enid immediately worried that Wednesday would be able to read her emotions all over her face but with the reassurance of her father she was able to walk away without an interrogation.

Knowing Wednesday wouldn’t actually check to see if she had gone to her room, Enid makes her way outside to where she believes the matriarch of the family will be. Morticia is dutifully trimming some of her flowers when the young girl enters the greenhouse. The elegant woman turns to her at the sound of her footsteps. “Enid what a lovely surprise, actually it isn’t I have been expecting you.” At this the blond tilts her head to the side but continues walking until she stands next to older woman.

“You have?” Morticia stops her trimming for a moment and puts down her sheers, fully facing the shorter girl. “I had a vision.” At this the blond lets out a soft ah. “So, you already know why I am here then?” The older woman looks amused and pats Enid’s shoulder affectionately. “I don’t believe I would have needed a vision to tell me that you have developed feelings for my dreadful daughter.”

Enid looks at the ground, suddenly finding her shoes very interesting. She moves some of the dirt around with the tip of her Vans before lifting her head once more. “I already spoke to Gomez I want to make sure that I do this right. I really like Wednesday and I’m just a little lost on how to show her.” She tries to keep her voice steady, but she isn’t sure if it comes out as strong as she wants it to.

“The fact that you care so much about getting this right is all I need to know to be assured that you are perfect for our Wednesday. You respect her boundaries but call her out when she needs it. Not to mention you literally saved her life. I will assist you in any way that I can darling.” Enid lets out a breath she hadn’t been aware she was holding, and they go over a few different strategies Morticia believes will win her hard to please daughter over.

Enid leaves the greenhouse feeling much better about her chances of wooing the girl of her dreams. She now has both of Wednesday’s parents in her corner and a general idea of what an Addams expects from courting. Before she can make her way back to the house, she has to dive behind a bush to avoid Wednesday’s watchful eye. She hadn’t expected the girl to come out here, but there she is walking purposefully towards the greenhouse. Enid holds her breath the closer she gets and doesn't release it until Wednesday has made her way fully inside.

Not wanting to tempt fate Enid books it all the way to her room once Wednesday is out of sight. Everything she needs to do to intact the final stages of her plan can be done from there anyway.

W&E

Although Wednesday loathes to admit it her mother is one of the most insightful people she knows and if anyone in her home would know what is going on with Enid it would be her. If her mother is surprised to see her enter her space, she doesn't show it. Morticia simply throws a smile over her shoulder and continues her trimming.

“Wednesday darling did you need something?” Her mother's tone is overly cheery and it’s almost enough to make her nauseous. “Actually, I do. Enid has been acting strange and I was wondering if you knew anything about it.” Her mother doesn't look away from her flowers, but she does raise one eyebrow before responding. “Have you tried asking her?” The younger girl almost growls at this. “You have been no help as usual mother.” She turns on her heel and stomps out of the greenhouse more frustrated than ever.

How is she supposed to ask Enid about her strange behavior if said behavior includes ignoring her. This is ridiculous Wednesday had faced much scarier things at the age of five than something as silly as talking to a girl who she might be in love with. With her mind made up she takes the stairs two at a time until she is in front of Enid’s door.

She knocks twice, she may be frustrated but she is well mannered to a fault. The door opens after a few tense seconds of waiting. “Willa?” Wednesday tries to make her way into the room that is much brighter than any other in the house, but Enid keeps her body blocking the entrance into her safe space.

“Enid, would you let me in?” The blond has the decency to look flustered, the tips of her ears, bright red against the light blond of her hair. “Sorry Wednesday it’s a bit of a mess right now.” Wednesday wants to remark about how messy Enid’s side of the room had gotten at Nevermore and how the taller girl had never been ashamed of it then. But before she can comment the touch of Enid’s hand against her forearm sends her head snapping back.
